Beautiful spot on edge of wildlife-filled lake. Very friendly welcome from owners, keen to help us have a great time. Running the place for 6 months now, suspect this place will get better and better. Large campsite interesting to walk around and canoe/lifejackets available to use for free. $25nz for 2 with a campervan pretty standard price. Only minor downside is an aging toilet / shower block but clean and functional. Would recommend.

Nice spot at the lake. Very friendly owners which are not all about the money. They just like having people staying there. Nothing fancy but clean. Gave me a discount because I was only with a bicycle.

Definitely worth the money for non-power campsite, just $11 per person. Cheap compared with other campsites around. Including good view of the lake. Amenities, kitchen has all you need. Toilets are clean. Also you can rent a canoe for only $5. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Plenty of space, recommended for family camping. I have deducted one point because of the lukewarm shower in the evening. It has a hot shower only in the morning.

Absolutely outstanding. We have been staying here every year for 5 years and we wouldn't have it any other way. Helen and Bryan are kind, genuine hosts' who can't do enough for you to make your stay an enjoyable one. Immaculate facilities, stunningly well kept grounds and surroundings. Friendly, family atmosphere - no riff raff (a must when you have a young family) they even light the campfire for children on an evening to roast marshmallows. Not to mention the stunning lake to explore via the kayaks for hire....I could go on and on about the many things we love about this place - Would highly recommend to all ( but not to too many because it's wanganuis best kept secret and I hope it stays that way!!!)

Hostile owner. We went in and seeing no one about had a quick drive to check the facilities (it looked busy and we weren't sure if there was room for our tent). On our way to the office to book, a woman called out and asked if we were camping. We said yes thinking she was a fellow camper saying hi. She then ripped into us for not checking in right away, shouting something non sensical about children being around (not sure what she was getting at, we were driving at about 2k an hour). It was really strange, and when I asked if she was the owner she said she was, and then after yelling at us some more told us to meet her at the office. We hesitated at which point she said maybe we should leave! We promptly did, and drove to New Plymouth where we were warmly welcomed by the owner of Havenview campsite (which was fantastic). Unless you are a local you are unwelcome here, we are an easy going couple in their 30s and have camped all over NZ, we've never experienced such rudeness as we did at Scoutlands. Avoid at all costs.
