Alana from Taupo
Almost had the place to ourselves, as it was off peak mid week. We had kiwi calling in the campground at night, even saw one poking around. Lovely beach and walks, but can't see the water from the campsite. The only problem was that it was hard to sleep in with the birds singing so loudly in the morning! $15/adult, $6.50/child.
Beautiful area & very peaceful today. Camping area now costs $16 per person per night, not $1 - 10 as listed in app. Book in advance to you get combination lock code to enter camping area.
Love this place! Such a beautiful setting with easy access to the wonderful beach. Idyllic.
Fantastic secluded camping ground close to the beach with lovely walks. We heard Kiwi birds nearby but didn't manage to see any! Ground can be sloped in some areas and facilities are clean and basic composting toilets. €30 a night for 2 people
Very nice natural park, perfect for walking and swimming.
Nice, quiet, walks, possibility to surf, dive, fish and awesome beaches. I did the 9km coastal walk, really nice with a lot of sheep and birds.
This is a beautiful site in the National Park so very well managed and quite strict. Need to be self sufficient as only water and long drop toilets available. You need to book this site in advance as run by Auckland Council. I did spend half an hour on the phone sorting out the booking for that night. Long process.
Excellent site. Cleanest toilets, loads of beautiful grassy space. Right on the beach. Lots of Takehe and Pukekos roaming around (including little babies!).
Gravel road to the park can be slippery if raining. The park is nice as well as the camping area but its on grass and a little uneven. Toilets were really clean. We paid $15 per person for an unpowered site. Camping is close to the lovely beach. Trails around are nice for walking or running.
Fabulous campsite, we loved it, it incorporates everything a DOC campsite is supposed to be. Quite an adventure to get there though. Lovely neighbours, Tuis and Pukekos. Perfect beach, great waves. Facilities ok.
Quiet site, large but uneven and sticky in wet weather. Long drop and water. Great beach and loads of walks. Nice place.
Great campground. Lots of nice grass spots to set up camp. Close to awesome beach.
lots of activities to do, plus the most clean long drop I have ever seen ;-)
$12 per night. Nice area and campground with good walking tracks
Our favorite campsite. Only one hour drive from Auckland, and in the middle of nature, beautiful beaches, nice waves, silence. With tap water and toilet, more is not needed. The ultimate North island experience.
Well off the beaten path. Very quiet even when quite busy. Information provided on area/walks at final carpark. But several kms of rattling gravel road to get there.
One of Auckland Regional Council's successes. One hour North of Auckland. My favourite Auckland beach.
Bush walks, marine reserve, snorkelling, surfing etc. A brilliant asset for North Auckland.
Lovely scenery, friendly rangers, many walks, great nature, beautiful beach!
A lovely wildlife reserve location not too far away from Auckland city and close to facilities in Warkworth and Matakana. Nice beaches to explore.
Located within a predator protected wildlife reserve, native birds bring welcome regular song to this peninsular. A marine reserve protects the northern side. The main campsite is essentially a wide open paddock with few trees and is set a little off the beach. The second site is for self contained vehicles only and is only half the price. Great swimming and lots of walks on offer.
