It was our favourite campervan park on the North Island. The sites are set in lovely trees and beside a river. The hosts were really lovely and you can get burgers onsite. Everything was clean and in working order. Kitchen had utensils along with anything else you might need. It’s close to a lot of different walks. Really enjoyed it.

I stayed before and after hiking the Tongariro Northern Circuit. I left my bags for free during the 4 day hike, and the shop had enough to add things I didn’t bring with me. I got a backpacker bed in the lodge for $28 a night, and had the whole room to myself one of the days. On weekends the place fills up so make sure to book ahead. There is a kitchen with all equipment needed, shuttles are easy to access, and a food truck with burgers, icecream, and coffee sets up outside.

Free wifi and very big areas for vans. Also a convenient store where to buy staff. Laundry machine there perfect for cleaning after excursions! Its a bit of money but worthy after long day at Tongariro...better do reservation, as it was fully booked the night we stayed!

The kitchen is fantastic. Unfortunately the camping options are quite limited if you want to pitch a tent - you have the choice of a small patch under a bright streetlamp, or a gravel area which will damage tents and does not accept pegs. It's a shame, because otherwise this would be a great campsite.

Facilities exactly as needed - kitchens, washrooms, laundry - and super easy and safe to get onto the crossing (and cheap, only NZD 40 per person for the hike). This is a big campsite, one of the few options and very convenient if you’re planning on doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing (although there is other cool walks nearby too). Staff were really friendly and facilities were clean, however there isn’t enough seating for everyone in the kitchen for such a big site, some people without places to eat their dinners whilst others were sat socialising and making their travel plans, was a bit inconsiderate. WiFi free but slow especially in the evenings. Big drying room for wet clothes, which was really useful, but not many washers/dryers.

Nice campground. It was very windy and cold when we stayed in July. It was $19 per person per night for a powered site. Toilets and showers were free but not the cleanest. Laundry facilities were slightly expensive we think, most expensive we've seen up to now, at $4 for the washing machine and $4 for the dryer. The shop is also very expensive. The bar down the road (Tussocks Tavern) was ok too, with food that was reasonably priced.

Stayed here 2 nights in June...and it did get a little cold.

We had a rainy day when we arrived, but a cool, clear day also. We pulled in to our site near the kitchen/toilet when it was cloudy and drizzly. Only a few other campers in the area. Very convenient to plug in and have a quick walk to the facilities.

When we woke the next morning and skies were clear, we saw that we had a great view of the mountain peak from our site. Plus we were on a mountain stream. Beautiful setting.

After a long hike I did have a challenge getting some hot water going in a very cold facility building.

Price was the highest of the doc parks we stayed in, but the easy access to Tongariro hikes and views make it worthwhile.

Would stay here again, but the kitchen was VERY busy and when we were there we had to wait for a table to free up to eat at as the dining room was used more as a lounge. It was raining so it might not be so busy on a dry day but I have heard it rains a lot there.

We stayed here for 2 nights in summer then again for 4 in winter. Cost was $19pp on powered site.

+ Fantastic location,
+ Awesome views and local walks to do,
+ Very friendly staff and helpful in winter sorting out shuttles up the mountain,
+ Very clean facilities,
- The onsite wifi is expensive.

We loved this place and would recommend for any looking to see the mountain in summer or winter.
