Piropiro Camping Ground is a great place from which to access the Pureora Forest Park. Go hunting, tramping or mountain biking - this place is especially handy to access sections of the NZ Cycle Trail. Basic facilities available, please take all your rubbish with you.

Very remote, peaceful and pretty. Lots of birds. Lovely walks nearby with interesting mosses, lichens and other vegetation. Long drops were bearable. Other campers were quiet and kept to themselves. Loads of space. Some huts with stoves you can use and it’s ok to have campfires. Great for nature lovers and dog friendly which is a rare find.
Gravel road access, but really worth to go there. Have a walk to the hangbridge (amanzing, 150m long). Big site, little stream, oven for cooking.
Back to basic camping, great if you like the remoteness and DOC style campgrounds (which I do). Good base for hunting etc, long drop toilets, shelter, fireplace.
A 14 km drive on a gravel road takes you to a very large clearing in the forest. Plenty of room for the 20 maximum sites stated, but (according to locals) can be taken over by hunters and/or cyclists. Basic facilities.
Basic free site that required driving through hazardous logging operation for a long while on windy gravel roads.
Thanks to all the good people working for the NZ Department of Conservation - for all your hard work - making NZ more beautiful, accessable and healthy! Cheers 😍
