Great DOC campsite at the start of the Timber Trail. No cell phone reception so make your shuttle arrangements in Benneydale! Big grassy area, long drop, water, BBQ pit in some areas. Very quiet, just lovely bird song to listen to.

Spacious campsite surrounded by beautiful forest. We had kakas swooping overhead early evening! Several sites had picnic tables and fireplaces. There was a rubbish bin and tap water was available. The campsite is just down the road from the start of the Timber Trail which we cycled with the use of local shuttles. There are also some great walking tracks nearby. There was only one other camper here when we stayed in April.

This is an isolated campsite just a few kilometers off the main road into Pureora Forest. There is ample parking for cars and campervans on the small rolling hills that create privacy for everyone. There is one clean drop toilet, one treated drinkable tap, and 6 fire pits with grates and iron plates to cook over. The BBQs referenced are not gas, so make sure to have plenty of firewood. There is a surplus of kindling around the site, but it was too wet to make a fire when we visited. There are lots of surrounding hiking and cycling trails, and this site is part of the Timber Trail. Honesty box of $6 per person per night. Stayed one night in June 2015.

The best here is the bird population, the sounds and birds you see are amazing! The worst for us was that we were eaten by mosquitos at night! Dozens of them got inside our car, that was not nice! Basic facilities, longdrop available and water supply. There is a public (flushable) toilet but it isn't walkable if you really want to go!..

Great camping ground for the money. We used the "bottom" camp area with the "long drop" toilet. The bird population in this area is incredible. The hospitality of the local people has to be experienced. It is a "Must do again" place to stay.

Very well maintained site adjacent to forest and with pleasant views over countryside. Tables and fireplaces available on many pitches. Excellent flush toilets on main site, long drop on other. Litter bins available. A credit to DOC and the staff involved. 6NZD per person, no power.
