This is a pretty large campsite, right on the coast. From this campsite you can walk over to Fletchers Bay (3 hours one way), also a great place to go swimming and diving.
This campsite is 55km north of Coromandel Township.

Lovely site. Defo recommend. The drive is not suitable for big campers, it’s a gravel road all the way. Toilets were pleasant, site was fairly quiet with lots of space.

Bit of a trek, quite a fun drive though on unsealed road. Beach is large stones so very uncomfortable to walk on or swim in the sea. Great views if you can get a spot up high right on the sea front.
Each camping location is approved by a regional council in NZ. So if it shows on the map, you’re allowed to stay.

My wife and I went there in Oct this year. I think its over rated and so did one other couple I talked too. Doc told me its not their peak season so They don't look after the site as much.
The grass was over grown there was recycling there from their last peak season.
Don't get me wrong it is a nice spot, very tight road to get into the site with some blind corners
But I think Doc are a bit cheeky charging people a full rate for camping for a site run down when there is a heap of free freedom camping spots in the Coromandel

Sea view, low priced. Although a bit of a struggle to get there over the gravel road, it was it all worth it. Quiet DOC camping spot, $10 per person + $3 garbage tax. Even had excellent Spark signal, but no 2degrees. If they could add hot showers and normal toilets instead of drop toilets it will get a 10. Be aware, the nearest gas station and supermarket is an hour away.

After 15km of good gravel road you reach a really lovely bay. The campsite is in the best condition and the view over the beach is beautiful. Bit like paradise with the ducks sitting next to us. Shower and toilet are basic but super clean. We will come back.

This was the most stunning camping ground I've stayed at yet. Super picturesque, a great amount of perfect places to park your car and set up camp (lots of shady spots too). The bay is very quiet and peaceful and there is a great walk that goes round to Port Jackson. If you are tossing up between Port Jackson and Stony Bay, stay at Stony Bay (unless you like fishing-I heard it was better at Port Jackson). The camp warden is also super nice and has a weather report if you're interested!

A very nice, huge campground overlooking a beautiful bay. Clean longdrop toilets, cold water showers and sink for dish washing. The walk starting from stony bay is very beautiful too. A long gravelroad brings you there. Ok for campervans and worth the effort.

North, very north, but so peaceful place, nice walk to a bay, the mountain bike track is steep but offers amazing views.
