Fletchers Bay Camping Ground is situated right on the beach front in a farm setting. You can walk along the Coromandel Coastal Walkway to Stony Bay (3 hours one-way). The perfect location for water sport-o-rama, catch a fish, have a swim, dig a pipi and check out the underwater goodness in your diving gears. Please take all your rubbish with you to the Port Jackson refuse site.

This is a very remote and peaceful campsite. It was fully booked when we stayed just after Christmas, but it did not feel crowded and there was a choice of places to camp. We got a spacious spot looking out to sea. The other campers were friendly and considerate on the whole, mostly there for fishing, hiking and mountain biking. There were lots of pro tent set ups and few motor homes. All noise stopped by 10 each night. The toilet blocks were clean and well maintained. The long drop toilets were miraculously unsmelly. The cold shower was large, clean and private. There are washing up sinks and some toilets have sinks in them. There is vodaphone coverage in most areas of the campground, up to 3 bars. The beach is grey sand, gravel and stones, so not the most picturesque, but it does have good rock pools and is safe for swimming. We tried snorkelling, the water was quite clear but not many fish close to shore. My partner loved the mountain biking trails straight from the campground so he would give a score of 10. The Coromandel walkway starts from the campground. The first half hour is farmland and a bit arduous and then it becomes very scenic. We had a lovely relaxing time.

Beautiful campsite by the beach. Very handy for doing the Coromandel coastal walkway which is fabulous. Clean toilets and showers. Will be back

Make sure you check the Alerts on the DOC web page before travelling to any of the Northern Coromandel campgrounds. Fletcher Bay is closed over the 2019 -2020 summer season for upgrades and other remedial work. There is still a day carparking area though and walking access to the Coromandel Coastal walkway.
Fletcher Bay Campsite - Northern Coromandel responds:
Fletcher Bay is open but some upgrade work will be happening in March 2020. Camping and Access to the Coromandel Walkway is still ok.

Lovely campsite with clean long drop toilets and shower rooms. There is a utensil washing sink. It is far away from civilization and to reach the site you need to pass through 23kms of single lane gravel road.
The office staff were friendly.

The place was absolutely beautiful, very much space and only a few other campers. It was so quiet and the only sound was the sound of the ocean. The staff from the office was very helpful and really polite. The toilets were clean so were the showers. The best camping spot in our vacation so far.

Lovely place, lots of space and the lady who was managing it while we were there was very nice and helpful. Perfect for doing the walks nearby! Quite pricey for DOC so would be nice to have a toilet block rather than just a couple of long drops.

Lovely setting in a sub tropical garden, beautifully kept. Very quiet early February - may be different in high season. Mangers very helpful. Great walks, stony beach adjacent. Worth the long gravel drive to get there!

One of the nicest spots to stay in NZ.... even the road to get there is an adventure... clean long drops and bonfire places.

Great views, on the beach, but lacking in facilities - very remote so understand.

Beautiful campsite at the end of the Coromandel. Take a while to get there, over a great well maintained dirt road with magnificent views over the Hauraki Gulf and Great Barrier Island. Bring enough food with you, because the closest shop is more as an hour drive. The beaches are beautiful with great snorkeling and the Coromandel Walkway is stunning. Only very small remark: the managers were taking the fire ban a bit to far to ask us to blow out our candles, which we used as our light and drive out mosquito s.
