Awesome, amazing, gorgeous. I did as a day-walk - started at the Routeburn Shelter and walked to the snowline just above Lake Harris and back (took 6hrs 45 mins including a couple of quick rest stops). Breathtaking scenery - which gets better and better as you ascend. The track is very well maintained and easy to follow. I checked out (didn't stay) the Routeburn Falls Hut on the way. Wow - an architect's dream with huge verandah over-looking the valley and very spacious facilities. Very special walk - DOC I salute you.

We did the nature walk and accidentally went to the Routeburn track because the signs are not so good. They only have instructions on one side so if you do not take a look at every sign you see (even the ones with words on the other side), it is easy to get lost and walk the Routeburn track even if you do not want to. So the signs should have instructions on both sides.

It's a "Great Walk" track for a reason. Getting increasingly crowded but still worth doing especially outside the peak season. A great mix of walking below and above the bush with some breath-taking views, well appointed huts and well kept track. Not the most challenging walk so can be done with low-moderate fitness (although you'll enjoy it more if you're fit) and older primary school age kids will cope fine too. Fine weather makes all the difference to how much you'll see and enjoy this walk.

Brilliant walk. The only drawbacks were the relatively large amount of co-trampers (which is expected and understandable) so that moments of true solitude were few and far between. But the reason for doing the tramp is the stunning scenic beauty - for solitude you need to go elsewhere - and it more than lived up to my expectations of that.
Pretty easy walking and the walking times quoted on signposts were pretty accurate (or even quite generous).
The track is very well maintained and the facilities were of a really high standard.
The hut warden talks every night were an added bonus and certainly helped relieve the evening hut monotony! Especially being entertained at McKenzie hut by Clive's tall stories and laconic style.
I would definitely recommend proper hiking boots for getting over some of the rocky parts, and don't forget that although the track is made and maintained to a high standard the actual terrain and environment is potentially very harsh and unforgiving, so treat it with respect and bring adequate gear.
We didn't go up conical hill (cloud cover, didn't seem like there'd be much of a view) but key summit was a side trip from howden hut well worth doing, the views are spectacular and the alpine vegetation and tarns on the summit are amazing.
Once again am really impressed with what DOC does for us in this country, thanks very much.

We only did the first part up to key summit but it was awesome! This part of the track was a gradual easy climb and the views on the way up and at the top were spectacular.

Great stop off on the milford highway if you have time.

The most amazing track I ever did. Wonderful views and the huts (Routeburn Falls and McKenzie) were very nice with good facilities.

It's only 32km so this track can easily be run/hiked in a day. Don't be put off by expensive/busy huts.

The first part to Key Summit. We walked up in pouring rain and then the sun came out at the top and revealed a gob-smacking panorama - fantastic!!! Spent hours up there drinking it all in!

Really enjoyed the feeling of achievement of getting somewhere under own steam, but weather was shocking so can't really comment on views! Pretty easy walking, nice huts esp Routeburn Falls. Could be done in 2 punchy days, but comfortable in 3.

A truly great walk especially the swim in Lake MacKenzie. Everything you need at huts except atmosphere in the kitchen/dining room, and comfortable seats to relax in.

We were blessed with continuous sun but even allowing for that, this was the most stunning and varied scenery I have ever seen! A must.
