Great overnight cruise. Excellent food. Staff and wildlife and scenery. Highly recommended.
Definitely a highlight of our trip was the overnight cruise. Saw dolphins, seals and penguins. Well maintained track.
Would be perfect but for the price, slightly expensive for an average traveller. Incredible trip though: a very special place and a great Real Journeys team make for an unmissable experience.
Good food and service, too much talking through the speaker system.
This was our bit of luxury, money wise, even though we shared a quad bunk - worked out fine (with a German couple). All transport was fine, boat had plenty of space (except some reserved booths!). Information as going was good. Food great. Very relaxing - good weather helped. Staff friendly. Activities OK. Saw lots of dolphins and seals which helped. Found a good couple to pal up with.

Overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound. Lovely staff, great food (heaps of it), clean facilities. Very informative guide. Amazing trip even though the weather not the best.
We saw penguins and dolphins.
Awesome, beautiful, helpful and knowledgable staff.
We did the overnight cruise in Doubtful Sound and it was delightful. The nature guide Carol was especially friendly and knowledgable.
Perfect overnight trip to Doubtful Sound. But it is expensive!!
Very well organised, friendly crew, very good catering. Excellent explanations.
Can't say enough good things about staff and attention to guests. A great trip from Manapouri over the pass and onto the Sound. Excellent food.

Had cabin with bathroom, again well organised, efficient, good service, good food, friendly. Worth staying overnight but expensive.
Pete & Pat Etheridge
Really friendly and professionally, sensibly run. Great food too. Fun and informative, light commentary. Saw lots of wildlife too. Comfy bunks, swam and kayaked too and social if you wish.
Wonderful views, excellent and funny nature guide, gorgeous food, interesting kayaking - in a quad room you might need earplugs.
Was just amazing, very good meals, good and friendly people.
To see the best in a country, you need to get out of the crowds !
Doubtful Sounds Overnight cruise is the experience to do if you really wanna experience the remoteness of the Fjords !
The fact that you'll only see 1 or 2 other boats during the trip adds a lot to it as you can really appreciate the silence and beauty of the area !
The boat staff is great as well and the boat is really comfortable. The staff really knowledgeable and always happy to answer your questions ;-)
If you have the budget : It's a must do !
A great trip. Very nice crew, excellent food. Don't miss to go kayaking. If you are lucky, dolphins will swim next to your kayak. Just feel the unique environment.
Well arranged and excellent service.
Expensive tour but really worth it. I enjoyed the cruise, kayaking, swimming and the great views. Food was excellent.
Thank You - to the thousands of travellers that have contributed to our Top Voted NZ Activities Map - it's free from Rankers.
Nice meal and nice nature guide, but expensive company. Great landscapes!
It was just awesome!!
beautiful scenery, delicious food, knowledgeable staff, comfortable rooms and a wonderful atmosphere on the fjordland navigator. This trip was pretty amazing and definitely worth its money!!!
We saw heaps of seals, were kayaking and sailed a bit. had a great time!
I did both overnight cruises in doubtful and milford sounds. Service was fantastic, the food was amazing and plenty of it.
Great staff and fantastic scenery. The cruise is noisy with not much sleep with generators and a 6am wake up to make the next days schedule, meaning we didnt really get to appreciate the private room. This is a professional organisation but it is hard to avoid the feeling that you are part of a production line. Next time I would probably try a day trip with Real journeys or for a more personal feel one of the smaller companies.
Well run system, excellent and highly knowledgeable naturalist. Accommodating staff, royal treatments for guests.
Good activities, excellent food. Excellent commentary and guide.
Overnight travelling is the doubtful sounds have been excellently organised and relaxed. It has been a great experience.
Great cruise, nice overview of the Fiords. The night on the water is not really peaceful. The engine for the generator is running all night and is really noisey. Wake-up at 7am was hard after a short night. Nice food and friendly staff.
Expensive but worth it, very professional operation, well managed and felt we'd seen Doubtful Sound and learnt about the area.
We went to Doubtful Sound and over night to Milford Sound with Real tours. All arrangement was absolutley superb and very enjoyable.
Overnight cruise was a wonderful experience with excellent crew. Very much and good information, well entertained - lots to see and do!
Doubtful Sound overnight cruise was excellent with fantastic nature guiding and formiddable service including good food and child friendly staff.
Is definitely worth the money, awesome views, good explanations, nice crew, excellent food (+enough).
Just back from a wonderful month in New Zealand travelling around in a campervan. I must say that the twenty four hour Fiordland Navigator trip to Doubtful Sound was a real highlight. At first I questionned if I should spend the money but certainly now feel it was excellent value and well worth it. The ship was just perfect - right size, well equipped and the crew friendly, efficient and very customer focussed. Shared a quad cabin which worked out fine and one of the great things as a single older woman was the mix in the passengers. Great fun, met some super people and this was helped by really excellent food - snacks, dinner , breakfast all very good indeed. We were fortunate in having wonderful weather so could kayak and swim as well as seeing the seals , lots of birds and of course the magnificent scenery, stars and - oh bliss- real silence! Cannot recommend this trip enough and so good to have the full 24 hrs. Hope you get there....!
Absolutely fantastic. If this was all I did in New Zealand I still would have come home in love with the place.
After a week travelling in a tiny campervan this cruise was pretty luxurious. Drive along the Milford Highway because you'll be hard pressed to find a more spectacular road, and take your camera (and your sand fly repellent to Milford sound) but spend the extra money and do an overnight cruise on Doubtful instead of joining the flotilla on Milford for a few hours.
We had perfect weather on our cruise, circumnavigated Secretary Island and headed out into the Tasman sea where wandering albatrosses circled the boat, fiordland crested penguins played in the waves and young seal pups had their first swim in the big blue. Absolutely magical.
The staff were helpful, friendly and knowledgable. Open bridge policy offered great views and a wealth of information from the captain. Nature guide was great and pointed out some really interesting things that I never would have noticed on my own.
Kayaking our on the sound really gives you a chance to get a sense of the massive scale of the fiords.
Dinner and breakfast were both buffets filled with a misture of local foods and old favourites (a nice change from camping stove meals!)
The scenery was obviously spectacular, but its worth staying the night in this remote part of the world to see the stars and hear the sounds of nature once the engines are switched off.
I could write about this experience all day but its already getting pretty long, so I'll end it here.

Excellent tour. Enthusiastic crew. Great sleeping quarters.
Very friendly staff and very good information on the natural environment provided by nature guide, though they should allow for more time spent kayaking in the Sound.
Really good! See seals, dolphins and great scenery.
Kevin & Chris
A great scenic and spiritual experience.
Our Doubtful Sound Overnight cruise was the highlight of the 2 weeks we spent in the South Island.

Went on an overnight cruise down to Doubtful Sound - all staff great - helpful and friendly - a really good cruise - expensive but worth it - really good nature info and great food!! A great experience overall. Waterfalls!
Nice trip, but by far not as spectacular as the Doubtful Sound.
Excellent in every way - timing of activities, service, meals, nature commentary with Kiwi sense of humour, quiet time.... & on & on...
Very stunning, it's worth the money.
Spectacular scenery from the comfort of a very comfortable cruise ship. Great food, helpful nature + history guides, kayaking in secluded cove. Pricey but worth every penny.
Out of season offers price - value is excellent
Great experience, feeling very special, great and lots of food / meals, wonderful views, nice activities during the afternoon. Great journey to the sound.
Spectacular views, Delicious food, Nice crew!!!

Fantastic value for money - very polished.
Friendly, entertaining staff, really good food, wonderful trip.
Brilliant! Great value when you consider all that you get. Excellent staff, service, facilities & food. Everything very clean and overall a wonderful experience.
Great boat , great crew. Thoroughly enjoyed it, get out on a kayak for a paddle or enjoy a drink at the bar in unbeleivable souroundings. Made me feel like diving off and disapearing into the wilderness.
Very well organised and great crew. Expensive but worth every penny. Superb food.
This was an incredible trip!! Perfect balance of activity, eating, quiet reflection and socialising! Awe inspiring scenery, lots of yummy food, water was surprisingly warm for swimming and kayaking, birds chirping... great customer service too. Don't come to fiordland without this trip.
An amazing experience and generally very well organised. The outward journey in particular was excellent - shuttle bus with a witty and informative commentary - with no ambiguity over what and where we were going, unlike the return journey when everything suddenly seemed very vague and disorganised. The cruise was superb - breathtakingly beautiful scenery, penguins and seals. The crew were, without exception, friendly, helpful and enthusiastic and the food was fantastic. Accommodation is comfy and clean, although you are not really there much in case you miss anything!
Although any visit to Doubtful Sound would be magical, the overnight cruise means you have more time to explore and enjoy the grandeur and beauty, as well as greater chance of spotting wildlife.
I just loved the overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound. Having only 55 passengers made it feel intimate and easy to get to know others on the ship. The food was excellent and beds comfortable although a bit crowded in a quad share bunk. Watching it become light in the early morning in the canyons of Doubtful Sound is awe inspiring. We had great weather. It was a highlight experience to my New Zealand trip. If you can't go on the overnight trip, then do the Milford day trip instead of the Doubtful day trip. Milford is beautiful and much, much cheaper!
I loved this trip. It was so nice. Less commercial than Milford and the trip in doesn't seem to take as long as you boat, then bus, then get on your boat. Getting up early in the morning to see the sun rise over the mountains was the best. Felt like i was in a movie. The food is fabulous too. The staff are great!
We were the only kiwis on the trip but loved it. A NZ must do, no doubt
Doubtful Sound overnight cruise with Fiordland navigator. Excellent personal, friendly. Great ship, good information.
Really good service, nice staff. One of the most amazing dinners buffet's we have ever had.
Stunning sceneries, good program, great crew & well, just an amazing time!
Excellent service overall. Naturalist only ok.
Overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound. Great boat, accommodation & food. Wonderful service. Scenery the best.
Overnight, Doubtful Sound
Pretty much faultless service. Boat and coach transfers on time with informative guides. Superb weather for cruise saw us kayaking and some braver souls swimming. Crew incredibly hard-working, helpful and well-informed. Food excellent. Although a bit pricey if you're on a limited budget, it's well worth it - wildlife and scenery are truly awesome.
Doubtful Sound - good commentary, comfortable boats, amazing experience.
really great trip. We saw dolphins and seals, kayaking was great. The crew was very friendly and the food was excellent
Doubtful Sound is absolutely breathtaking. Not a cheap trip but the service and scenery make it all worth it.
Excellent food, good nature guide. Saw bottlenose dolphins and the Fiordland crested penguin.
Really great. They have thought of everything. Even the food was good, and the cabin was like a first class hotel (so was the price).
Great. Great service, crew were fantastic, food was good. All of the transfers were good- really informative.
It rained a lot, but I'm glad we went. Trip and organisation were really well done. Efficient without the feeling of being herded.
Just lovely - even in bad weather they make the best of it. Lots of activities. Would use them again.
Saw a lot of dolphins and sea lions, didn't get overly excited about the luxury picnic lunch.
Awesome, food was fantastic, people were really nice.
Bad weather but worth it. Good crew with good info. Nice and clean.
Loved the cruise. Higly recommended.
Good food, rooms. Great activities.
Good value for money. Great service and food.
