A pleasant day can be spent walking up this mountain. The approach is on the Western (Dart) side of the peak - look for a carpark on the right hand side of the road. A good zigzag track climbs three quarters of the way. After this, a marked route can be followed as far as the bushline. Above the bushline this track is steep and exposed. This track is not recommended for young children.
Public access is not permitted beyond the bushline.

You need to climb to the top. The view is amazing. You can see two different side views at the top. One side is lake, one side is mountain. Awesome.

Must to see!! The view is fantastic!! The best day track in the South Island. It is a bit steep, first couple of hours in the forest, another 40 minutes for the rocks, then 15 minutes to the top! It is really AMAZING!!

Nice, but very steep and hard walk up the hill. At the top you have the best view of New Zealand (for me so far).

Wow! A 4-5 hour tramp. The first two hours through New Zealand's bush and then a half hour walk on the mountain ridge. Great view of glaciers, lakes and an incredible feeling.

A bit of a steep walk up the mountain in the forest, it is worth it to do it.

360 degree views up into paradise and down Lake Wakatipu are the reward of the day hike; worth saving it for a clear day. Under the trees for a large part but then it does get a bit rocky and exposed at the top.

The track is really muddy and not well marked. The end is not marked at all and it requires real climbing. But the view at the top is amazing and worth the effort.

Track starts calm and fixed, but it gets more slippery and exposed the more you go up. But it is totally worth it. When you are on the top keep on going to the edge (to the left side). There is an awesome landscape to see (you should also see the location of the filmset of Ismgard - the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings).
At least some mountain-experience is strongly recommended!

Great walk with a happy end at the summit. Hard to go up there but totally worth it.

A very exhausting walk but well worth the effort! Very steep to get to the top, the last part is a bit tricky on the rocks and stones, an incredible view at the top.

Between 5 or 8 hours to climb to the top and return, quite impressive if you do not have the habit of mountains and a wonderful view of the Dart River.
