The Kidds Bush Reserve Camping Ground is super busy during the holidays an awesome spot with plenty of space to join on in with the locals.
Its away from the main road so it feels like you are in quite an isolated spot. The campsite is alongside the lake in a large grassy area, with lots of shade from beech trees. Walking track nearby. This place gets extremely cold in the winter, so cold that the water pipes all freeze up! Well out of the sandfly zone - wicked.
There is a shelter and a boat ramp here.

Popular with locals so busy we were there Saturday night and it was a bit noisy at night.
Lovely warden told us it would claim down after the weekend and it did we stayed two days went swimming in the lake (yes it was cold) and walked through the wooded trail. It's what the DOC sites are all about.
Toilets very clean.

This is a beautiful camp site. We found a great spot under the trees with views of the lake. Clean toilets and water supply. We saw the most amazing sunset over the lake- the best we saw in our whole month in NZ. Completed the walk up to Sawyer Burn which was steep but great views and straight from the campsite. One of our favourite DOC sites in NZ.

Great spot, the gravel road is in very good shape (watch out for the 1000 bunnies ;)). There is no sign but if you're coming from Wanaka it is a gravel road on the right at the end of the lake. Clean toilet, great views and taps (no drink water). Bring spray for the sand flies!
A great lakeside campsite, very peaceful with plenty of space. Sandflies lurking of course, so bring spray. No showers (otherwise I would have given a 10) but a dip in the icy lake is a good option for the brave! $8pp is a fair price for the setting and facilities.
GREAT VIEW ! A lot of room. Toilets were good. You have a nice area with picnic table, water supply. It's good for $8/pp.
We at Rankers NZ, love to meet travellers on the road and share in some of the freedom. That's why Rankers NZ invites you to come and stay for free at our chill riverside overnight parking area in the Motueka Valley at the top of the South Island.
Ridiculously good views. And the toilets are very clean. Didn't give it a 10 as the 6km entrance road is one of the bumpiest.
