Nice, windy campsite. Beautiful view at the mountain. Directly by the lake.
8NZD pp.night cash. Card isn't possible. Toilets o.k.
Amazing spot, plenty of places to camp with vans or tents! Toilets are good, nice cooking and washing facilities. Epic info on the history of the spot too! $8 pp per night. Gorgeous views of the lake and snow capped mountains! Last spot with sandflies if you are heading back east!
We just stopped for 1 night and it rained the whole time so we didn’t really explore. Ok toilets and a cooking shelter. Right by the lake so I imagine in nice weather it would be lovely. Sandflys as ever!
Nice camp site with very pretty views of the lake. The sand flies are in abundance here so best staying in your camper for early morning/evening to avoid getting bitten! Toilets are basic but clean and a covered cooking shelter has a running tap. For those interested this site has no phone signal. A&E
This is a stunning campground on the shores of Lake Wanaka, with a pebbly beach full of driftwood. Basic toilet facilities. Its a very picturesque campground, DOC managed, cost about $8 per person per night. One of our favorite campsites in all the South Island.
Great views and some cool spots tucked away for campervans and tents. Toilet facilities, sink, and sheltered area to cook. Windy at night but that kept the bugs away, we had a ton in the morning as soon as we left a door open. Gets crowded at night but stays very quiet. Great sunset and sunrise views.
Lovely place by the lake. Very windy at night.
Great site, plenty of room for tents. Beach close by and view is brilliant. Basic but clean toilet facilities. Also has a sheltered area for food prep and a sink area to wash up. Next to road for accessibility. Would recommend this campsite.
Is a very nice place at not to busy, would come again
Really nice campsite, best view on Wanaka lake, quiet and wild. The toilets are ok but the only sink is really small and no so practical. Be aware of the sandflies ! Ho, and the sunset is gorgeous !
The campsite is located on a small peninsula in lake Wanaka.
It has lots of niches to put your camper in and nice clean toilets. There is a small shelter for cooking.
Be prepared for lots of wind. Good side of that: no Sandflys!
All in all one of my favourite places so far.
The view is amazing! Really good spot, lots of space for campers and tents. Toilets, water cold and picnic area...i loved it!
Great spot, fantastic views and you can take some nice short walks around the place. Can be windy, but there's some spots behind bushes that shelter you from it.
Beautiful view of Lake Wanaka to camp for a night after a long drive from Franz Josef glacier towards Queenstown. Toilets are so clean and nice smelling. Gets crowded towards the night, so do come early but plenty of space for everyone, tents & motorhomes, campervans. Open kitchen with little sink and running water is available. Quiet and lovely place to camp but do come prepared with mozzy-guard to repel away sandflies-which is a nuisance.
Good spot to spend the night while driving to West Coast. No mobile coverage. A lot of space. Closer to the main road. $8 pp, but no box to put money in and no one came to collect money in the morning. We came around 10pm and left early 7am
Nice spot. Good facilities. Quite busy.
Save up to 70% on campsite fees! Support conservation and experience the natural beauty of NZ. 78 Department of Conservation campsites, one convenient pass.
Came in late in the day, very windy and cold. No cellphone coverage
We camped here after passing through several others on the road because this was be far prettier. We parked our campervan right towards the edge of the water so it’s pretty windy. The upside of that was it kept the sand flies away!! Only two toilets so there was a line in the morning. Sunset view over the lake was very beautiful.
Had a great dip in the super cold lake.
Very rocky beach.
Beautiful view of mountains.
Was very full but quiet.
Flush toilets and dish cleaning area.
Totally fine for a nights stay.
The camp attendant was a sweetie with a sense of humour.
I am a foot shorter due to the sandflies.
Happy Camping 🌿
Nice, busy, site next to the lake, good facilities for a DOC conservation campsite (shelter, washing up sink, toilets). However a huge no. of mosquitos at the time of our stay keep it's rating down.
Quite a few people spent the night on Jan 27th. Many tenters. But not noisy, everyone was very respectful and quiet. Water was VERY cold :). Very beautiful views. If you have time continue down to next DOC campsite towards Haast. It’s much better. Bathroom is flush toilet and clean. Good place to stop for a night to get some rest.
Nice DOC campsite next to the Lake and main road. Few sites available but apparently a number of cars stayed over at the parking lot. We have not seen the DOC ranger for checking the payments.

Small free campsite with conservation pass and basic facilities with 2 units of flush toilets and wash area. Untreated water supply. Very beautiful pebbles beach during sunset.
Great campground with clean toilets and water access. The views on the lake are just absolutely stunning, highly recommend to stop there.
Very pretty, especially during sunset. Make sure you arrive early since only a few spots have the good view. Clean flush toilets, and can go swimming in lake (cold though).
Very beautiful but small campspace, direct lake access (brrrr cold!), separate area for tents, only two toilets.
Great quiet site literally beside the top of Lake Wanaka. Good for easy access to Wanaka town.
Lovely tree lined sites along the lakeshore, adjacent to Boundary Creek. We and others sheltered here during a stormy night in September. Many sites tucked in amongst trees and bushes provided some protection from the wind. Access for large motorhome no problem. Two flushing toilets were clean, had paper and soap. There's a kitchen shelter and several picnic tables. There's no doubt this would be devine with good weather.
Nice and clean campsite with two clean flush toilets. Feels like you are in a jungle (rainforest with palm trees).
A scenic quiet camp ground with great views. Very quiet despite closeness to main road. Take a short stroll up the hill across the road for good views.
Great spot at a not busy time and if you can get to park or camp down near the beach. Lovely beach in a warm evening with the sun going down. Some great tent spots.
Of course facilities are limited...but that's just how it's advertised!
Unfortunately it was extremely windy when we were there, but we could certainly see the potential. Gets very crowded though. It was free with our DOCs camp pass, but normally $8 pp
Access savings worth hundreds of $$ on Top Ranked NZ Accommodation and Activities for just $1 per day.
Just a nice campground in a perfect location to enjoy the amazing Lake Wanaka.
You can hear traffic from the road. Limited facilities.
The view on the lake is nice. However, the camp doesn't have many facilities and looks more like a parking lot. It's very near the road (you can hear the traffic sometimes) and if the weather is not good I wouldn't recommend staying there (cold wind).
This was a great spot that really is right on the lake. This location leads to great views alongside a lot of wind. We were fortunate to arrive early enough to camp in a corner with more shelter whereas those arriving later were forced to brace the elements. One sink and one tap encourages conversation.
The campsite itself is stunning but considering we paid $16 dollars for one night we would have expected better facilities such as perhaps recycling facilities or potable water. Toilets were dirty as well. We have stayed in better free campsites.
We can't love this spot enough. Incredibly stunning and quiet. Fills up fast, so do get there as early as you can. Clean loos, great little walk around the delta and pretty windy.
Close to Wanaka, on the lake. Pretty beach with lots of driftwood. Very windy but amazing views if you get the right spots. Clean flushing loos. Would go back!
Nice spot next to Lake Wanaka. Clean flushing toilets and plenty of sites. Bring insect spray (if you aren't a greeny) as the run way is too small for the sand flies to land. Yep, they bite. Thanks DOC
Our stay at this spot was marred only by a group who obviously didn't know what "no fires" meant. The spot itself is beautiful with great views across the lake and clear water for those brave enough to dip their toes. The foreshore is littered with washed up wood that has been assembled by creative folk into shelters and sculptures. A great site to see. There are toilets at this site but according to signs, no suitable drinking water. The available camping space is quite extensive, so take a walk in all directions before settling down.
Nice, small but sheltered spot on edge of a lake. Toilets maintained ok and running water. Was very windy but bushes provide enough cover. Good spot.
Two sites are available. The first one, immediately over the bridge from the DOC camp is just a flat, exposed, stony area about three metres above the lake, with a very steep access road. The second one is a short gravel access road, 150 metres south of the bridge, which gets you right onto the waters edge!!! This spot has far better views than the DOC site and parts of it (it's huge) are very protected. This is the site I rated 10!!! It is absolutely beautiful - we stayed there three nights, and others, who saw our motorhome from the road above, joined us.
Good spot with plenty of pitch. Toilet was ok, but people left their rubbish in. :( Prepare for sandflies.
Sommes arrivés et camping complet. Nous nous sommes arrêtés juste avant celui-ci (avant le pont sur la gauche en venant de WANAKA).
Emplacement bien agréable avec vue sur le lac imprenable.
Very windy and dusty. Toilet very dirty. It's so dirty. Moreover there is not much rain so you have to carefully use the water. Fortunately, the view it's really beautiful.
Nice place, toilets OK. Stunning scenery with Lake Wanaka and surrounding mountains.
Perfect! Don't miss this campsite!
A really good site, plenty of room. Part of the bush roped off as dangerous, with no explanation.
Great spot at the Lake. Great views to the Lake. We had no sandflies. Think they were blowing away due to strong wind.
Great stop before heading through the Haast Pass to the West Coast.
Second time here, sandflies kept a bay with spray.
Very nice campsite, just on the shore of Lake Wanaka. Very close to the road and easily accesible. The price is the standard for a DOC campsite - 6$
Lovely location towards the north of the lake. Clean toilets with loads of loo roll. Plenty of space for campervans and tents to spread out. Shame about the sandflies.
Great spot and superb views of the lake. water, toilets and shelters for cooking and eating. 6 $ pp and to be paid via the box.
Nice campsite next to the lake Wanaka. Good spot for fishing or any water sports. Only two toilets for such a busy campsite next to the main road and unfortunately one toilet was jammed that time. Sad that people cant read and are so selfish that keep leaving rubbish behind!!! It was not first time I found plastic bag with rubbish or rubbish it self left on toilets!!!
Nice place by the lake of the main road. Just two toilets for the whole campground was a bit tight, but alright. Not that many places to park your campervan, but plenty of sites for your tent.
Very nice beach, amazing views of mountains, lake, sunrise and sunset.
Really nice location, Lake Wanaka lays beside the campground, really windy but many bushes and trees for privacy!
Anne and Steve Bartlett
Beautiful location right on the lake. $18 for 2 adults and 2 kids. Toilets and water.
Very nice and big campsite with a view to the lake (drinking water available).
$6pp. Just south of Haast Pass hi-way closure point. Lots of space with more private spots. Nice toilets. Tap for drinking water. Couldn't see much of the lake (or campground for that matter) as it was pretty stormy, wind really picked up over the lake in the night. Decent site.
Nice spot, beautiful location! Toilets were ok, but no other facilities. $6 pp was fine.
Nice location directly at the lake.
Jiri van Straelper
Ok as a stop, but poor facilities and dirty.
Good location. Quiet even if the road is near by.
Better for tent than camper van (more space).
Good toilet. Water point a bit muddy because no evacuation.
Nice location, good facilities, NZD$6 per person is adequate. Unfortunately no rubbish bins.
Beautiful little spot right on the lake with beautiful sunset. Clean toilet facilities and fresh water available
Nice spot with simple but clean toilets and cold water.
Andreas & Leonie Fehr
Very near to the lake. Beautiful natural place, $6 per person.
Lovely location, spoilt by sandflies, but can't do any thing about them.
Great camp site near the lake!
A small but great site beside the lake.
Best location - such a shame about the sandflies. Had to eat indoors. Non powered site - unmanned. Good walk along lakeside. Someone caught a good sized trout!!
Ian and Ailsa
Top spot. Good fishihng. Basic facilities but good value.
Very good camping ground. It was busy (nearly full the night we were there). but really nice spot.
Basic, two toilets, gravel park area, clean dumping area. Good for campervans in good or bad weather. Amazing vistas.
Good location and value for money - opposite end of scale from a Top 10.
Nice campsite at the lakeside! But in the morning - sandflies!! Nice price
DOC campsite. $6 pp. Excellent location, flush toilets and drinking water.
Majority of DoC sites are great. Great views, based slightly our of the main towns but at $6pp who can complain.
