Beautiful quiet camp site with nice amneties that are clean. Booking online was a breeze. We stayed in a hut with two bunk beds. Wise choice because there was a big storm that night which we hardly noticed in the cosy hut. The huts have heaters for winter time.
Only downside was that there is no reception, so we struggled to get hold of the person who could give us the code to open the keybox. Make sure that you organise that before arrival via email, otherwise it turns out to be quite frustrating.
What a lovely place to stay! An easy booking made online to DOC $20 for unpowered 1 person/van and worth it. Lush green grass, private nooks with bush and trees providing screens if you prefer, fantastic facilities, great access point to an abundance of hiking trails beginner to advanced. A perfect location for families with young children, plenty of space to explore. The little village down the road will take care of your supplies needs and just a gorgeous drive through farmland anyway. Highly recommend staying here!
Nice quiet environment - probably because it was in the shoulder season. Clean amenities - kitchen and bathroom.
A quiet spot to camp in the middle of a beautiful place. We enjoyed the walks in the forest and loved the food and drinks at the cafe nearby, The Green Man.
31Oct18. Great big site away from it all. Powered site was $42 for 2 of us. Book online or at the store down the road. They are really helpful and friendly there.
Ok toilets and showers. Laundry still $3 each for washer and drier. Find them in the room signed “Telephone”!
A good base for some of the nearby walks.
Save up to 70% on campsite fees! Support conservation and experience the natural beauty of NZ. 78 Department of Conservation campsites, one convenient pass.
Very quiet location with well spaced grassed campsites but bit on the expensive side. They also charge extra $2 to pay with credit card!
Facilities basic but OK but shower timers bit annoying as they have to be reset every 30 sec but lots of free hot water. Nice walks nearby.
Lovely quiet camping. Large spaces to camp between the trees. Good facilities.
Very nice campground in a lovely setting with waterfalls and walking tracks nearby. Many sites to choose from; suitable for large vehicles and caravans. Decent flush toilets and hot showers (free), as well as a washer and dryer ($3 per load), and enclosed kitchen with hot plate and microwave—and a wood stove for warmth in colder months. A bit pricey at $18pp ($21pp for powered sites). Fees collected at the cafe down the road, however it was closed when we arrived, and again in the morning when we left. There isn't an honesty box at the cafe or camp, so we were unable to pay.
Very nice campground. Facilities are very clean. Arrived late and paid in the morning in the cafe, where they have delicious cakes!
We liked this campground, it is in such a quiet place and there are so many powered sites conveniently located next to the facilities and spaced out, plenty of space for everybody. We didn't have any problem with our large motorhome, no branches or anything like it. The location specified here is actually the location of the shop where you can pay for your booking. If it is closed, just keep on going for another 3 minutes following the main road and down the hill until you see the sign to the campground. The manager will come to charge you later on in the night or you can pay at the shop the following morning. There is hot water available and the facilities were clean.

A lovely campsite, very quiet in October. Facilities good, the only reason I've given 8/10 is the price is a bit high for what you get.
Highly recommend this site.
Stunning grounds, with clean and well maintained facilities, hot showers for free, and well appointed kitchen for guests too. No WiFi, but no need as lots to keep you occupied with good walks, stunning scenery and nearby for Rangitata Rafts which is a must do.
We loved this place, very quiet, green, shady, great facilities, very clean and great recycling. We are in our 60's and these things are important to us. Because we are totally self contained we feel the price is a bit high, but I guess it is the going rate. We paid $60 for two nights. I have already recommended this camp to friends and family.
Very nicely situated campground.
pretty nice, lovely area. i would say its a few dollars overpriced. nice to find a doc site with hot showers, though.
Fantastic camp ground with well equipped amenities. Close to river & Mt Peel walks. Not suitable for large rigs as there's a glen of low height trees to pass through to the powered sites.
Our background: We stayed here during our 5 weeks campervan tour through the north and south island. We were 2 adults and a baby (9 months) and travelled with a large campervan.
Rating: beautifully located and with access to a number of nice walking paths. When we stayed there was only one other vehicle on the ground so we had ampel space. Nice stands on grass. Toilets and kitchen were clean but a bit dated and could become crowded when it is busy. We would stay here again.
Big campground, well maintained, good facilities and very clean. A bit more pricey though - $15 pp. Close to lots of walks around the area.
Bill and Noreen
Great camp many bush walks. Visit to the church is a must. Fishing in the Rangitata River.
Cindy & Glen Kerunsky
Beautiful setting, lovely grassy parking, nice clean facilities, quiet, removed from urban living.
Clean and friendly.
This is a fully equipped DOC camp with great walks, away from crowded locations.
Very good facilities, good to see the honesty system working, that people trust you to do the right thing.
Lovely site, good facilities, good walks and Rangitata rafts nearby.
$9 per person - nice setting & very good facility ( showers, laundry, kitchen with fire place) Very good value for money
Private sites. Good facilities - kitchen, laundry, showers. Very quiet.
