Very welcoming host who took time to share info about the area and to ask us about our travels. Walking distance to pub where we had delicious blue cod fish n chips. Bathrooms very clean and a bench and hooks to put clothes on and a shower curtain so the space stayed dry ! Hooray ! Loved the wonderful dawn chorus and the paradise ducks ! A great place to stay even in winter !
Small, cosy and friendly holiday park. Excellent and fully equipped kitchen. Nice TV room, the WiFi worked perfect. Clean and tidy. Stayed here with family of 4, 66 dollar. The showers need an upgrade or at least a bit more waterpressure. Used the disabled shower, that was a bit better. Gateway to the penguins and albatros.
Ok site. Nice kitchen but showers are a bit old.
Very nice place. The Otago Peninsula is absolutely beautiful and we did appreciated this campsite after longs walks.
Book well in advance because it is very popular.
Cosy small camp ground with all you need. It even has laundry which is not stated in the kiwi park info brochure!
Used it to see the blue penguins late in the evening at the albatross center. Short drive to this camp. Perfect location even for longer stay at peninsula!
Turned up without booking to a few powered spaces still available. Liked the location, out of the city. Good spaces between the spaces, and convenient to have dump station and fresh water alongside the power hook up. Pleasantly surprised to find that the site had good wifi throughout the pitches. Shower facilities good be improved, no devision between shower and changing area meant grass and outdoor show muck was being washed towards plug hole in shower by over flow of water.
Nice quiet site with clean facilities. Fish and chip shop and pub nearby making it an excellent stopping off point when visiting the Otago peninsula.
Nice place and nice people at 30-45 min of Dunedin!
43$ with wifi for 2adults ans 1child for a power site
Greeted by very friendly, helpful staff member. Used the showers. Excellent location for the night time penguin watch which went to with short drive back in the dark. Quiet road so no disturbance.
Facilities a bit dated, but functional and clean. Very friendly staff and well maintained plots.
Nice spot to explore the peninsula or take the bus for a day in Dunedin.
Have stayed here before, would do so again.
Nice place to stay. Near albatrosses and seals. 25% extra price during summer time. Should be told also here.
Very cute, quiet and clean little campsite. Enjoyed it a lot! Great place with small kids because of the horses across the (cul de sac) road and you can leave the campervan and walk into the little village for a coffee or some groceries. Good kitchen facilities! Had no issues with the shower....

Nice little campsite for seeing what the Otago Peninsula has to offer. We used this as a base to see the penguins. Good clean facilties would stay again.

Nice little family run place a quick walk to the tiny town of Portobello. There is a yummy cafe and small grocery there and a few of the wildlife tour groups will pick you up at the store or at the campsite. Kitchen facilities were great and the hostess was excellent. Gets 8/10 because the showers were impossible to figure out (especially while wet and freezing) even after consulting with people who had been there multiple days.
Good kitchen and laundry, good location for exploring the peninsula. Showers were very low pressure.
Good campground. Best place for exploring the peninsula. A bit basic for a kiwi. But it has all the necessary facilities. Slow wifi, but I didn't have a problem with cold showers as mentioned before. The room was cold, the water wasn't. Around the corner there's the penguin cafe. A absolute treat. We enjoyed the apple pie and chocolat cheesecake.
Stayed here when the tail end of cyclone Gita was hitting NZ, so it rained and rained for 24hrs. We were in a tent first night unpowered pitch $36 then a cabin @ $65 (plus $5 if you want bedding) became available so we were able to stay another night and let the tent dry off. V good kitchen area with 3 large stoves with 4 gas hobs on each. Gas burners need adjusting. Pots n pans n 10 tables seating 4 each in dining area. No crockery to speak of so bring your own. 2 large fridge freezers. V busy at mealtimes but we all fitted in. Only 3 electric showers and 3 loos in each of the ladies and gents. Not that clean but it was v wet and muddy and a lot of traffic in the ladies. Wifi as mentioned below. V popular with Motorhomes.
Very helpful staff. Def recommend a visit. Good value.

Delightful spot in small valley above the pretty village , where there is a small beach, shop, great fish and chips, and a SPARK wifi box!
Nearby Allans beach has seal lions and surf.
Quiet , clean, compact site, good kitchen, TV and dining area, friendly hosts.
We liked this small campground and location so much we decided to stay an extra night. It is in a beautiful and peaceful location on the Otago Peninsula, with views of the hills and water nearby. Penguin Place, our primary destination, as well as the albatross colony are just a few minutes drive away. Portobello is a cute little village with several restaurants. The staff at the campground were very helpful. The campground is very clean and well run. The kitchen and eating area was great. Our only problem was that controlling the temperature in the showers was very difficult. The water was either hot or cold and obtaining a comfortable mixture was next to impossible. We would definitely consider staying at Portobello again, maybe trying their cabins which looked lovely.

Decent sized pitches with plenty of room for our 7.5m campervan and good space between vans. Individual power water and dump station was a nice touch. Very peaceful location within easy walking distance of restaurants and general store in Portobello village. Overall good value and a very pleasant stay.
Clean, small and quiet. Served the purpose. Lady was nice on reception. $38 for a powered site so reasonably priced.
We stayed 3 nights here in September and found it a great base for exploring the peninsula. Powered sites include an individual dump station and fresh water tap. Camp kitchen was large, facilities are clean and there's also a laundry with commercial grade machines. The showers have a quirky instant electric heater that means you need to reduce the pressure to increase the temperature - they weren't great as a consequence, but otherwise good. Lady's facilities weren't cleaned the whole time we were there. Internet access is timed but umlimited data - first night 1hr, 2nd night 2hrs and 3rd night 4hrs per guest. Management were friendly and helpful. There was no shuttle bus service further on the peninsula out to the penguins, albatross etc so you do need to break camp to go out to those however there is a regular scheduled service to the city from the end of the street. There's a large kid's playground within 10mins walk, along with various cafes and a pub.
Stayed 1 night in this conveniently located campsite. Had excellent position on upper level with views down valley. Very clean amenities and friendly owners. Highly recommended.
The owner gave us the most horrible site while nice sites with views were still free. After a quick question we could move to a better site with some views. Well equipped kitchen and clean showers with free warm water. Close to a lot of nice things to do on the peninsula. Probable biggest concern, a bit a boring location with views to the other site of the small valley.
A powered site for 2 people costs $38. Showers, toilets were sufficiently available. All clean. There was free Wifi with limited to a few hundred MB. The campsite is divided on 2-3 levels. Accordingly you have to go down the stairs and go up to the kitchen / toilet / shower. Mediocre cost / benefit ratio.
Great camping, not so big. We arrived in the afternoon and went afterwards to the Penguin Place which is very close. Showers and facilities clean.
Uncomfortable with the rain: little river just in front of our camper van and the soil was very wet. One of the 3 showers didn't have hot water. And I had to use the dryer 3 times for my laundry... Unfortunately it's the only camping on the Peninsula...
Lovely small-medium sized campground in excellent location on the Otago Peninsula. Its situated on the main peninsula road (the Portobello Road) roughly in the middle between Dunedin and Taiaroa Head - so good for both city visiting (11 miles South West), Albatross/Penguin spotting (11 miles North East) and visiting Larnach Castle (3 miles South West). Very friendly and informative hosts, squeaky clean facilities and well planned campsites (particularly compared to some bigger campgrounds I've stayed in where I've felt quite squashed). Its also an easy walk from the campground into Portobello village which has a most excellent fish & chip shop (fully tested by me and very good).
A quiet and simple couple enjoy the Otago Peninsula penguins and albatrosses camping. The reception is open late and the kitchen and tv area are wonderful. The kitchen is equipped with pots, pans, cups and cutlery. Nothing fancy but more than enough.
Perfectly functional and clean. The only campsite on the Peninsula, so a good place for a night or two. Pretty cheap too - $38 for a powered site with a free hour's internet and free hot showers. The facilities are pretty basic, and the shower block freezing in May, but then you're out all day exploring the beautiful coastline so it really doesn't matter at all.

Good location and facilities. Lukewarm customer service because I wanted to choose my own site. Generally good for overnight stay.
Ideal place for people who join the Blue Penguins tour.
Handy location on the peninsula. Sites spacious and grassy however there was not much for the kids to do. The staff were friendly, as was the free hour of wireless internet. Laundry was well equipped and machines worked well.
Could be better.
Well set out spaces for campers with easy access to power, waste and water.
Kitchen was ok, it needs to update or maintain some of its non-operating stove-tops but overall was clean and otherwise well equipped, and the same can be said for the showers, as these need some attention and updating, probably one of my least favorable showers of my trip around NZ campsites.Friendly staff. Overall i think with a little work this site could really shine, but as is at the time of this review could do better
Clean and sanitary hot showers. Equipped kitchen, TV, WiFi
The drive to the park is an experience. The sites are on the small side, but big enough for a 6.5 meter camper van. The park was clean, the showers were hot, the Wifi was a bit weak. The owners were very helpful and friendly. The park was about a 20 minute drive to the Royal Albatross center -- well worth the trip. If you have a car Highcliff road is ok, I would not recommend it with a camper van of any size. Whenb the work is done on Portobello road it will be fine
A good base to explore otago peninsula. It is a small campground. No breathtaking views but a solid site with good and clean facilities.
Lovely location with pleasant sites. Portobello is an excellent place to stay to see the little blue penguins and the albatross. Larnach Castle is also worth a visit. Toilet facilities were inadequate for the number of people, so queues for the ladies showers in the morning. Make sure you ask for your access code for free WiFi, as it may not be offered when you check in.
Slightly expensive, appreciated lst minute booking though. I had recently hurt my knee and was on crutches. The handicap stall in the toilets which I needed desperately did not drain and I had to be rescued from slipping to get dressed and out. The 1908 Cafe just down the street was amazingly delicious and friendly which made up for everything!
A small site which was great for us in the winter. Well placed for us to explore the nature around the area.
When full the facilities, which were clean and very good, might not cope with lots of guests.
Great food at the Café 1908 in the village.
We found the site exceeded our expectations and recommend it to those looking to explore the peninsula.
Quite small but very pleasant spot about 20km from Dunedin near seals and albatross.
Good equipment for the price. $30 for 2 people with power.
Clean facilities and help and friendly staff. Good location for getting to the Albatross Centre and Pengiun Place.
Expensive for the service and not very friendly ($18).
Good sanitary facilities.
Small and friendly! Good facilities and a short walk into the village itself. Its well located for popular spots like Larnach castle, the albatross centre and penguin viewing. I felt the hot water in the showers could have been hotter. I like my showers scorching!
A very quiet and attractive location in a pleasant and scenic village. The owners are helpful and friendly, excellent kitchen/dining shared facilities. Lovely walking and scenery close by. the local pub has a lively locals scene and good food. The best place to stay or camp if you want to visit the albatrosses, penguins and fur seals on the Otago peninsular. The wifi worked well and some free time was included with camping fee.
Nice location, nice facilities and friendly staff. Downside: Same price for tent-site per person as for Camper-van $18.
Julien de la lande
Clean and good facilities but expensive $18 each to park our van.
2 tent travelers from Montreal
OK campground but the kitchen is way too small - it was very crowded when we were there. Facilities (showers and kitchen) could use a bit more cleaning.
Lots of people, but really cosy campground.
Pretty good. Undercover bbq appreciated in the rain.
Expensive and the site for campervan remind me of a parking. Small and busy kitchen.
Good and hot showers
The walk from the camping across the mountain is nice but steep.
Arrived on Easter Sunday, warm welcome from the hostess. The campsite was clean, toilet and shower blocks very clean. Easy water and dump stations at each powered site. Lovely walk straight up the dead end road to the top of a hill, overall peaceful and enjoyable stay.
Expensive camping as it's the only one on Otago Peninsula ... could be cleaner and facilities are part of the oldest / bad maintained we had in NZ ...
We came to this park, since we badly wanted to move out of Dunedin Holiday Park..
It was better than the former I must say.. Was small in size, but very near to the Otago region which we wanted to explore.. Bathrooms were good and park site too..
Just did not like its kitchen.. It could seat only about 3-4 couples at a time.. Even though its a small park, they should keep some moving space in the kitchen so that people dont dash to each other...
Very nice woman at front desk that checked us in at 2pm. She was very pleasant and took the time to patiently place our camper at the site that would have the best wifi service. She gave us a map and explained all the wildlife viewing locations nearby and also a nice running route to take. Very friendly and nice customer service. She gave us 15 mins of free wifi that was nice, you do not see that very often.
I called them and established that my friend and I would be arriving late at night, and that we'd pay in the morning. This information was evidently not communicated to the person working at night (we were told the office would be closed), and we were not received well. We cooked our dinner and upon walking back to our campervan, we were accosted by a man, asking "what the f**k" we were doing. I explained that we had called; he said that was impossible, called me a liar, then rudely ordered us to leave, saying they were totally booked. We said we had nowhere else to stay and asked if there was anything we could work out, parking along the road, etc. He became even more irate, cursed at us, threatened us physically, then threatened to call the police, accusing us of stealing; he appeared to be heavily intoxicated. We decided just to leave at this point with nowhere to sleep. I don't understand why anyone would treat a stranger that way, especially a customer.

Well maintained, good staff and excellent location for the whole peninsula.
Cramped bathrooms. Too few showser. Not a nice tv room.
Adequate site. Rather cramped tenting sites and small kitchen. We dined around the grilling area even though it was a bit cold since it was more pleasant to be out there than in the smelly kitchen when everyone was cooking. My husband complained that the men's bathroom was not as tidy as it should have been; the women's side was not a problem. Not our favorite campsite, but got the job done. We loved exploring the Otago peninsula and this was a good, central location for us during our three days there. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Pristine clean, sunny cabin.
Good sites, reasonably priced. Basic facilities but good hair dryer did not work too good though!
Good and clean equipment and sanitary facilities.
At $17.50per adult, could have been a lot cleaner!!
Jim & Rebecca
Small (booking advisable), great setting, peaceful, very clean, excellent facilities. Paid site but one of the cheaper ones.
Really great small site.
Walking distance to a very good restaurant and fish and chip outlet. What more could you ask?
Marieke and Bert-Jan
Friendly, clean amenities, close to the penguin place and albatross colony.
Small friendly site with adequate facilities. Good local walks and bus service into Dunedin. Close to Portobello Hotel for good food and beer.
Very clean, very nice and relaxed campgound, every place for campervans has its own dump station!
Clean, quiet, great showers, good communal kitchen facility. Walk down to restaurants & harbour at sunset.
Small, but well equipped camp, kitchen a little bit small but tidy. Showers were very good, powered sites are not huge but absolutely ok (no shadow, at least the front row, but who cares, during the day we didn't stay on the camp ground!), and there's the best fish&chips shop in the region just down the road!! We drove to Allans beach (easy to reach, even with camper van), and saw some cute seals and sea lions, this beach is so impressive!! Later we went to the the see if we could catch a glimpse of a royal albatross, and we were lucky! Don't miss Portobello AND this tourist park!
Too much money - offer only a few! Is not entitled to have 4 stars!
Great location, all facilities needed. Very helpful staff.
Alexis De Wilde
small but clean & good campground.
Well equipped site in a good location. One of our early camps. Good experience.
