Fantastic campground, heaps of space, beautifully manicured grounds with lush green grass, facilities very tidy with updated showers and toilets, a big games room with plenty for the family to do in the evenings.
Stayed 2 nights and we will definitely be back.
We love this place. Quiet, green, big trees, spotlessly clean and tidy. Darren and Rhonda are fabulous hosts.
Camp was nice and roomy, grassy sites great games room, facilitys were clean but fairly dated but well looked after by the hosts who were always pleasant and helpful, a happy stay x4 nights
Friendly hosts. Showers only $0.50, laundry $2. Walking distance to town, pubs, Four Square, Hammer Hardware, and cafes. For a fee, hosts will pick up/drop of for Te Araroa walkers.
Great big camp ground in walking distance of Methven Town. The facilities were a bit old but very clean and tidy, and there was heaps of cooking equipment in the kitchen which was helpful.
The camp ground was run down and one of the most expensive yet one of the poorest facilities we experienced during our 2 week south island tour. Would recommend others to stay elsewhere. Electronic systems are antiquated yet they as for your electrical wof! Location was quiet enough and good access to Mt Hutt and Methven stores.
The bathroom and kitchen is clean. Hot shower is only 50 cent. The washing machine is $2 and dryer $4.
This was a brilliant place, great value for all the facilities and the owners so friendly and helpful. Great hot showers, (50c for a plenty of time) sparkling clean, big kitchen with everything you need and a fun games room. Stayed early April and got there early so wasn’t too busy but they get busy in ski season I gather. Very near the town and a great base for walks up Haketere way. Oh, and a gorgeous Labrador puppy in the grounds plus two fluffy cats we spotted.
While travelling the length of New Zealandby bicycle, the Methven campground was one of the friendliest we stayed at. Well-stocked kitchen, clean hot showers for only $.50 and a lovely new camping pod cabin. The owners were extremely helpful and no question or request was too difficult. Recommended!
Travelling with 5 kids we absolutely loved this campground. Basic, simple but was totally suitable for our needs and the kids had an awesome time running around in the big spaces. Would definitely stay here again.
Good cheap no frills camp site. The kids enjoyed chasing the sheep, easy walk into town.
Stayed one night late Jan 2017, this is a nice old school campground with plenty of space and a chilled out vibe. Rustic.
The facilities were my favorite part. The bathrooms are the cleanest ones I found in NZ and they were never busy. The kitchen has a ton of tools to use to make whatever you want and has a large dining area. They have two cute dogs roaming around. The owner is nice and gave us some ideas for what to do in town. Methven doesn't have a lot happening in the summer, but it was a great place to stay to relax on our trip before going to Christchurch.
Methven Camping Ground responds:
Thank you for your kind review, we appreciate you taking the time and look forward to seeing you again some time.
Stayed alone on the power site, no heated bathroom, good information from the owner for renting snowboards, more or less clean bathrooms and kitchen.
The owner was so nice! Very relaxed atmosphere. He gave us some free wifi but there was no reception at our powered site, so we had to drive near the office the next morning to use it. DVD rental $4, same price in town though.
When we checked out we paid into a honestly box, which was surprising as it was $32 for two!
Nice grounds. Make sure you get a pizza from the local pizza shop, they deliver for free to your van! Amazing pizza.
This campground has the feel of campgrounds as I remember from childhood - spacious, laid back and friendly. No need to worry about campers crammed into a handkerchief-sized area. The facilities are fairly retro but impeccably clean. The kids enjoyed the playground.
We used the campground as our base for a few days skiing at Mt Hutt and it was perfect. The campground is a short walk to the shops and cafes in town and only 5 minutes from the ski access road.
The host is a friendly and generous guy. We left our campervan hose bag behind and he kindly delivered it to the rental company base in Christchurch a few days later saving us the replacement cost.
Located on a county showgrounds. The managers were plain folk, very helpful, their dog did tricks. local working guys camped in their cars. It was peaceful.

It has a very spacious TV room, relaxed, laidback atmosphere.
Very quiet, very complete, very kind.
Nice grounds. Near town centre, nice hot showers, peaceful.
New caretakers have transformed it from dirty & dingy, to a destination worth staying at. Its not Top10 quality, but has reasonable facilities, friendly owners, spacious grounds, reasonable pricing to, CASH Only though.
