Cute, clean holiday park - quite pricey (but no more expensive than a Malborough sounds DOC campsite where you also had to pay for showers.) but we felt like we got good value: unlimited hot showers, use of the kitchen, dumped waste water, cleaned the van down a bit too with provided car cleaning materials. If you want to be close to the action of ChCh then it’s a great wee spot.

Nothing special, just a city holiday park without any character. All the facilities are clean and tidy. The mens bathroom is old and needs an upgrade. The women bathroom is recently renovated. The playground is only one trampoline and one slide. Nothing to complain, except the price, 62,20 dollars for a family of 4, including 15% discount with kiwi membercard.

This place is perfect if you’re starting or ending your trip out of Christchurch. It’s close to town. The facilities are very clean and the staff very nice. Also a really nice cafe across the road. My only suggestion would be instead of taking a bus to town driver your camper and park it. It’s easier and cheaper than the bus.

We spent our first night ever in a motorhome at this park so it's hard to make comparisons, but with its manicured lawns and flowers everywhere, it seemed pretty awesome. There were cut flowers in the Ladies bathroom and a free hairdryer and everything was spotlessly clean and seemed like it had been newly renovated. Camp kitchen had great cooking options and my children enjoyed the Common Room. Everyone was in a camper, making the park extremely quiet. Owners were great, especially when we had trouble with our fridge not working properly. Would recommend booking ahead because it's quite small.

This was our first stay in New Zealand and having travelled for 40 hours from the UK we chose to have a real bed for our first night rather than stay in our van!
As our cabin was literally the first one in the camp and as we had our own shower and kitchenette we didn't really explore the camp facilities but the site looked clean and tidy.
On arrival staff were friendly and the room was clean.

Cost (2p, cabin): $75
Location: Good for either exploring Christchurch or getting out onto routes 1, 73 or 75. Supermarket within about 15 mins walking distance.
Facilities: Didn't really try communal facilities but facilities in room were good.
Value: 8/10

We came here after hiking in Authurs Pass, so by the time we got to Christchurch we were desperate for somewhere to stay. This place was much more compact than other Kiwi holiday parks, but still had a small kitchen and lounge (which weren’t open 24 hours, closing at 10 pm I think) Given the central location (and cheap price) these things are understandable and its a great place to stay. I imagine it gets busy, but they had an unpowered site available at 7pm on a wednesday night in late November. The lady at the reception was friendly.

The lady on reception was so friendly and helpful explaining the bus into town (2 min walk to bus stop) where apollo campers was and generally really helpful. The site has facilities to wash down your van and clean inside. Great showers etc. Also a place to drop off surplus food and you can pick up anything you may need

A nice tidy and well kept small site near the centre of Christchurch. Part of the Kiwi Holiday Parks group, it's a compact and tight. The site seems to have been designed for motor caravans and camper-vans, and works well for them. However, tents and caravans are catered for too. Manoeuvring a caravan can be tricky if it's busy. Powered site: $32; un-powered site: $28 (Nov. 2019); 15% discount if you're a group member.

Why would you? It's close to Christchurch city centre; facilities are good and nicely kept.

Why wouldn't you? It's close to Christchurch city centre; if you're a caravan owner you might not want to entertain the grinning motor-home guys with your manoeuvring skills; there's not a lot of running around space for the kids; it's next to a busy city road.

Mark-downs? Not enough showers.

Return? Yes I would return.

We paid $44 for 2 person for a powered site. Overall it was good. Location wise is near to the city. The grass was a bit lumpy for the spot to park though. Limited shower room as there’s only one shared shower room and one toilet in a block only. There’s another block for female only. Didn’t get to use their kitchen so can’t comment on it. Free 200mb wifi included per device. Conclusion, a good choice if you don’t want to park too far from the city.

Would give this ground a 12-10 if it was possible. Have to be the hardest working staff of any camp ground in the country and really sets the bar for others to measure up to. It's not new nor is there a lot of space but the set out gives you the illusion of space with a central gazebo and BBQ area.

The staff clean the showers and toilets many times in the day. They are still cleaning at 9pm.

We also found the ladies in the office to be extremely helpful with tips for buses into the city and suggestions on places to eat within walking distance of the camp.
The camp is in a great position, 15 min bus ride to the centre of the city. Bus leaves from outside the camp entrance. Easy walk to shops and heaps of good restaurants. No need to use the camper whist staying.

Also only a short 10-15 min drive to the airport if your dropping off or picking up.

Thanks again for making our 3 day stay so enjoyable.

We ended our Southern Road Trip here. I phoned ahead and advised the reception (the owner) that we were looking for a place to clean our Motorhome before handover and also looking for a decent bed. We were catered for royally by provided us space for the camper (did not need to pay for) and an excellent Park Motel that was perfectly clean. Awesome stay, awesome customer service. and very quiet even when your next to a busy road. Highly recommend this camp to anyone.

2015 May Review - Clean tidy facilities, relatively quiet location, friendly staff. Close to town. If you are taking Red Bus rebuild tour from the Museum I-site, parking for motorhomes available on Armagh St in North Hagley Park.
2016 May Review - Back again in 2016. Lovely clean facilities, bathrooms have timed warming lights to keep you toasty during your shower. Our go-to place for first/last night stop overs in Christchurch in our motorhome, will definitely stay again.

Our first experience of camper-vanning! A nice welcome to this small site set in pretty gardens. It was quite full but then it is a city with an easy to drive into the centre and from the Kea depot. Good facilities - plenty of hot showers.

of course would have been nice to be closer to town but I think they were the closest holiday park we could find.

We chose this place because of the mostly good reviews and the relative closeness to the city center.

Well, in the end we walked all the way to cathedral square and took a taxi back. We found that it would have been quite easy to find parking for our camper van downtown.

The holiday park itself ? Sorry, we cannot share the euphoria about this place, rather the expression "sardine can " comes to mind... Be wary if he assigns you a space in the center round-about, its really very tight, we had two tents about 1 m from our door and at night I almost fell over their ropes.

Amber Kiwi Holiday Park and Motels responds:

Thankyou for your feedback.
At this time of year it is really busy & more so due to the earthquake in 2011 ,two holidayparks have closed or reduced capacity in Christchurch.
We advertise that we are 4 km from the city centre & we have a regular bus route from outside the gate.

+Good large sink to hand wash clothes with plenty of line space

Nice spot, although a bit crammed as others have noted. Showers were clean and nice hot water, though! One downside was that the older woman working was pretty grumpy, snapping at both me and my husband.

The campground itself might be nothing special and yes, the slots are pretty small but it was a great last night in NZ as the staff was unbelievable friendly! They even printed out our boarding passes for our flight back home. Everything was clean and the kitchen was very well equipped. Thanks for the map and the nice instructions, we had a great day in Christchurch!

We started out trip in NZ from Christchurch..

Amber wasn't our first option to stay in Chc.. But since it was nearby to our friends in Chc, we though to give it a try, just to be surprised to what it offered.

Amber was a small park, with about 50 parking sites.. But thats what made it super cute :) It had a central bbq area and the kitchen and bathrooms were not more than 50 steps away!

And so clean??!! It went above all our expectations!

Glass-walled kitchen and benches outside with spectacular view of the park and flowers all around was not to be missed..

We were so glad by the park that when we ended our trip with Chc being the last halt, we made it a point to stay at Amber and take pleasant memories back home :)

Amber Kiwi Holiday Park and Motels responds:

Dear William,
Thankyou for your feedback.
Due to the unprecedented demand because of the lack of backpackers ( as a result of the Christchurch Earthquake ) we have tried to accommodate as many people as we can as they have no where else to go. This puts us the the same situation as every other Holiday Park in the Christchurch City precint. We are looking to expand our property in the future.
We hope you enjoyed your holiday in New Zealand.
Regards,
Sharron

Had two nights here.
Amber was small, a little cramped, but filled with travellers like ourselves rather than families on holiday with lots of kids.
The toilet and shower facilities are excellent, even with flowers and paintings on the walls of the toilets. In our smaller block the showers are unisex, this was the last of many Holiday parks in three weeks in nz, and a happy experience.
I would highly recommend this park.

A friendly place with welcoming staff. Clean facilites and grounds. We could walk from the caravan park to town....a little way but was good exercise! Caught the bus home and bus stops were conveniently located outside our accommodation. Quiet area with little road noise heard. The only downside was noisy neighbours arriving late at night once we were all asleep (after 10pm)...not nice when we were flying home the next day. Otherwise a great place and would choose it again!

A good place to stay before flying home the next day.

We walked into Christchurch from here (even though bus stop is right outside the site) because the buses were not running to time-table. It took about 45 minutes and some if it was past some rather run-down housing along the busy main road.

Very helpful staff though - we'd run out of shampoo and were given some by the lady on duty in the office.

The best caravan park I have stayed in. Ambience great - we were parked in amongst the rose gardens. Roses were gorgeous. Staff exceptionally good and helpful. Facilities were spotless. Extra little touches greatly appreciated - roses in the bathrooms, bath mats in the shower areas - so nice to have dry feet when putting on trousers!! Heaters in bathrooms. Easy bus access to city outside the complex. We were in a campervan but we had a look at the units - we would definitely stay in these.
