Just a guy
Nice staff, very good value for money! Much better than the camping next door and also cheaper when traveling with a baby as the neighbouring camping charges even for 0 years old babies.
Ok site but some sites are very small - our first we could not even open the doors on our small jucy condo... but we could change after complaining.
Just gravel sites so no nice place to sit around your car but bbq area is nice
I paid more for booking online than the lady next to me just dropping in...
$45 for a night with a campervan on a powered site. (2 adults, kids under 4 free)
Really lovely setting with the sites spread out between towering ferntrees giving a real rainforest feel. Nice kitchen and eating area. Free BBQ facilities right in front of the children's play area which was brilliant.
Showers and toilets were decent but small.
Short walk to the hot pools so we didn't actually need to use the camp showers.
Great campsite, we had a powered site which was quite secluded. Access to the shared jacuzzi included. Decent bbq area but needs to have better cleaning equipment. Toilets and showers fantastic, free to use hair dryers and straighteners in the female ones. We didn’t book as hadn’t planned to stay but our hike was cancelled and they had space.
Really nice campground with all facilities needed. The parking lots are quite next to each other. So with the small baby in out Campervan we hope that our neighbors were all right 😅
But apart from that very good experience
Inge and Tonnie
Nice campground, but small pitche, very close together. There are 6 female showers not 2. There is an extra building behind the extra mens block. Facilities are old. Wifi works fine during the day, not fast. But at night it is not good at all. Probably to busy with users. Price is 48 dollars for 2 for powered site. They don't have non-powered sites. In town, so close to shops and restaurants. Staff is friendly. Steep price for what you get.
Nice place but dirty ladies showers (only 2) and kitchen not well equipped (no ustensils): only hob and microwave. Did not try restaurant as it was expensive (>$26 for basic pizza). Spa pool looked nice but did not use it.
Good facility, close to everything in Franz Josef.
Highly recommend. Lovely lay out and pitches. Ask for a powered site in the bush for a secluded spot. The on-site restaurant is incredible and very good value. A&E
Great spot to camp while either visiting the glaciers or on your way down the west coast. Would recommend here above all others we saw in the area. Perfect little campervan spots enclosed by well established gardens giving you some privacy and a nice setting. Franz Josef was a nice town too. Only criticism is there needs to be more washers/dryers - but if your patient or do it somewhere else, all good.
Great holiday park in a beautiful setting! Clean new showers and the bathrooms are heated! WiFi is free and unlimited for guests!
El and Josh
Super nice, didn’t feel like a caravan parking lot at all which was a nice change. Loved the hot tub, the staff were lovely, and the facilities were good - there was even a straightener in the ladies showers! The restaurant on site has good specials and the place is clean.
Only down side was the toilets didn’t seem to flush well, so there was often someone else’s business sitting there waiting for you.
All in all though for $42 for two people it was the nicest, best value holiday park we’ve seen.
Best place I have stayed so far. We extended one more night. The hot pool was a bonus. Kids love it. Worth the money !
Really loved this site. Nestled in the rainforest but could be a bit crowded if full. Lovely shower block with large showers hot and powerful. WiFi was good. Best bit was a little restaurant on site. Large open fire and relaxed alpine vibe. Highly recommend. Short walk to the hot pools and lots of bookings possibly. Very helpful staff
Not good for campervan. Dirty bathrooms, not enough toilets or showers (in ladies bathroom, 3 toilets and 2 showers between 50 campervan sites). Clearly aimed at people staying in the main buildings.
Really cool spot! The sites can be a little tight, but we were placed with no neighbors. The facilities were nice and clean. There was a super nice hot tub available and an awesome restaurant on-site. We had Pizzafest while we were there and it was delicious and fun!
Really nice stop. The pizza at the restaurant was really yummy! Laundry worked well here. Amazing free WiFi. Bathrooms weren’t the nicest we’ve seen and showers didn’t have benches (which is really helpful).
Tiny spaces for campers and really cramped. Toilets fairly grotty old and not very nice. Showers were hot. Expensive for what it is (a car park in a forest).
Tash & Laura
Great location near to hot pools and glacier tours. Great bar with lots of drink offers in the evening (6$ drinks) , nicely presented but very small spaces and they fit a lot of people in!! Hot tub and sauna both small and sauna wasn’t working when we went. Toilet and kitchen small but clean.
Small lots for campervan but they have done a nice touch with extra shubbery/trees to separate and give some privacy. Clean facilities though only 2 shower stalls but included. They also had a spa pool included though we opted to use the hot springs which are just a couple minutes walk away. Close to restaurants in town as well. Good location overall if you want to be near town and attractions.
Beautiful setting! Sites are cramped together but they do feel private as they are separated by a small rainforest garden.
Showers were good, with unlimited free hot water and had hairdryer and straighteners too.
Great location and very close to town.
Would be 10/10 if we weren’t so closely crammed in with other camper vans.
Increadible small places if you got a „twin-box“. I could almost knock to next Campers Door out of my window. If single box, its definetly better (same price).
Great stay for New Year celebrations. Great bar/restaurant attached to site. We certainly saw in 2019 in a happy environment. Great food. Staff very friendly.
Amenities a little tired but did the job. Shower lovely and hot. Washers a bit worn out
Site really does have a fabulous rainforest feel. Pitches good. Nothing too far away.
Site is close to all bars and restaurants, 2 mins out of site.
Jacqui UK 🇬🇧
Heaven compared to the other options in town. Good wifi and plenty of motorhome sites with space to spread out.
We loved this place. Traveling in an extra large camper van, the sites are a decent size and private! With rainforest gardens in between each site you don’t feel looked in on my other campers. It is close to all restaurants and is very clean & well run
Stayed 3 nights here in our campervan. All amenities were clean, showers had good water pressure, restaurant was awesome, will definitely stay here again.
Jordan & Jazlyn
Very nice holiday parks tucked away in the rainforest.
Good facilities and clean, tv room, kitchen, restaurant and bar on grounds. Free to use spa during hours.
This place was actually disappointing as we had been expecting more from reading reviews and their website. It is WAY overcrowded - yes you are surrounded by some rainforest-style greenery but you will also have another van parked about 2m from you, and you will look directly into the window of cabins/apartments/whatever that are opposite and all over this over-built site. There were quite a few vans overnight even though off-peak, yet they closed at least half of their bathroom facilities meaning the remaining facilities were crowded and a bit grubby. There is also insufficient lighting and signage, so can actually get a bit lost trying to find your van after a swim at the hotpools. Not what we were expecting and for the price, would look elsewhere next-time, including just parking the van and staying in a motel room instead.
Really nice site overall, however, the pitches are quite small and difficult to manoeuvre a large campervan into. The bushes around ours required a serious trim as you couldn’t easily get to the power outlet! To be fair we pointed this out and the manager has said he’ll address this. Very good shower and kitchen facilities. The onsite restaurant and bar was excellent. Extremely conveniently located for Franz Josef glacier.
19Oct18. $44 for 2 of us in large camper powered site. Free WiFi.
The site allocated to us was a little awkward to get onto as we had to be sideways but most others were drive/reverse in.
It looks a bit claustrophobic at first but it was quiet.
The bar and restaurant were very good. Good atmosphere. A covered semi outdoor area with a log fire. A good selection of ales. We had pizza and had plenty to take away with us. The food others had looked good too.
Only 9 out of 10 as I have a general issue with campsite showers. Don’t owners realise that when it is wet you walk water and muck in. With no duck board or anything else to stand on after your shower you have to stand on a mucky floor with wet feet. Also something to sit on for when drying feet would be good. Oh, the lights switched off before I finished too.
In spite of that little rant we like this place and may well come again on our next trip as we feel it is good value.
Nice campsite in the centre of Franz Josef- very convienient for glacier access. The site itself was very nice and had nice surroundings. Bathrooms weren’t super clean when we went and only 2 showers so there may be a queue. Nice on site hot tub which was a good perk. $40 for 2 people for 1 night on a powered site.
Amazing stay! Lovely place, great bar!!! Sites we’re lovely, facilities great, and perfect locations for local activities. The bar is a must, great atmosphere, does not disturb camp grounds at all! Also lovely jacuzzi and sauna for all guests to use at their leisure!
We were robbed of our camper van here. But the staff here were incredibly kind. We got free room and food, and we finally found the campervan. I really appreciate the staff. This is a really nice place! Thank you!
This was an awesome place! The showers and toilets were clean. We had a powered site which was spacious. We didn’t feel cramped in at all. It cost us $41 for two of us. The all you can eat pizza night was brilliant and a great way to meet people. The spa was also fantastic, nice way to relax at the end of a day hiking. The only reason it got a 9 was because they say free wifi which it is but it is very poor.
It's a pretty cool place with lots of nature surrounding you. Check in was a breeze and a night for 2 in a medium camper cost around $41. The kitchen uses a littered burner, microwave and fridge, it doesn't have a hot water dispenser nor an oven which would be nice. Toilet is a little smaller with only 2 showers and 2 toilet next to the kitchen. Parking is kina tight, where each slot is for 2 camper side by side. Overall is a nice place for the night and would surely come back again
Best I stayed. We stay 1 night with a van in winter. It is a Resort not just a camping, Jacuzzi, sauna, bar, well equipment facilities, bathroom with heardryer, ghd, several toilets and showers, nice bbq area an dining room.
The bar was a little bit expensive but very nice place anyway.
Keep it this way!!
Access savings worth hundreds of $$ on Top Ranked NZ Accommodation and Activities for just $1 per day.
Bex & Jake
Really cool location. Reception helpful (although busy at times). Arrived and were able to book in for free for a private sauna and hot tub available on site.
Kitchen facilities were great - have to bring your own pots and pans.
Onsite restaurant and bar was really nice. Great food and a good atmosphere.
WiFi was free and worked across site.
Felt really good value.
Really nice spot in the rainforest. We got a powered site and were close to the facilities, which were also great. Only complaint would be that the sites are quite close together. It was quiet when we were there so it was fine but could get hectic at peak season. Pretty much next door to the thermal baths too!
Stayed two nights here. A great spot close to town. Great meal at the onsite restaurant/bar. Nice facilities
This place is amazing. By far the best place we’ve stayed at (that ain’t free). Amazing rainforest all around the site and nice little spots each with they own table and chairs. Large kitchen with coolers and fridge but no pots or pans so bring your own to cook. Two sets of toilets and showers which were all good. Also has a FREE hot tub on site as well as a really nice pub just by the entrance that does a pizza fest (all you can eat pizza) every other night. Unlimited free WiFi which all holiday parks should have nowadays really.... can’t fault it!
Very small pitch which was challenging to manoeuvre into. Very close to next van...and nowhere to sit outside van, if van is large! Lively site with backpacker lodges . Well situated for walking into town. Great bar and pizza place on site.
Lovely rainforest parks for powered campervan sites. Great location close to all cafes, restaurants and activity departure points. Great restaurant and bar on site and hot pools, and good kitchen facilities. I’d say not great based on overcrowding of tourists (could of just been seasonal tourists) but kitchen was a struggle to get space in, and not clean ( again probably just the amount of tourists there ). Semi clean for he most part bathrooms, 2 showers 3 toilets in ladies which is generally fine but this is a very popular campsite so could easily see it being not enough amenities.
Lovely heated dining room (again not big enough for capacity).
Cost a bit much, but it was the nicer place in town. Very busy at reception, but hosts were still helpful, fast and kind.
Most sites are paired so you’ll be alongside another van.
Overall good if you don’t mind the crowds.
This is a nice site. Campervan plots are decided mainly in two's. With gravel drives. The trees are well established looks like the site was designed around the forrest. The toilets and showers had seen better days, the kitchen and BBQ are fine, would stay here again, very central for town, and the bar and restaurant is busy. Lots of younger backpackers but we are in our 60s and this was great. Overall nice but if showers had been better then would have given a 9
What a cute resort middle in Franz Josef village! Great facilities (clean toilets & showers), kitchen (bring ur own dishes and cooking utilities). Free wifi but very weak one. Overall absolutely lovely place!
Located within easy reach of Franz Josef amenities and attractions although mature flora around the site creates a secluded environment. Campervan pitches were gravelled and well spaced out with some tables and chairs available for guests use. Clean and effective toilets and showers. Monsoon bar and restaurant offer good range of wines and beers plus excellent food at affordable prices for all. An excellent site although reception staff could have been more welcoming.
Large sites with seating
Very clean toilet blocks and kitchen
Showers free to use
Restaurant/pub on site very nice. 5 minutes to town walking
Quiet site except backpacker/ motel section
$46 for 2 people in a non-powered van. The sites are tiny, a space which you would think is just for one camper is in fact for 2 campers so you have no privacy. (I am whispering this to my boyfriend as to not disturb the van next to us!) The kitchen is quite small and there is no freezer. This is completely overpriced for what you get. Showers were good.
Rasmus Lundgaard Nielsen
Really beautiful campground with good facilities. Feels like being in the rainforest.
The adjacent restaurant and bar has a nice atmosphere.
A bit pricey but good value!
Clean and nice facilities (eg dining area next to the kitchen really nice, both inside and outside. Showers/toilets clean, and showers free.
Only downside: spots are relatively small, we got luckily and got a slightly bigger one but some are simply slightly oversized parking spots... However, really nice campground, good facilities and perfectly located in Franz Josef!
This is a great spot, has everything you need (including power points in the bathrooms which I greatly appreciated!).
The bar & restaurant out the front has a great vibe and awesome happy hour!
Great kitchen (about 10 hobs) and dining area, both inside and out. Hot tub was pleasant and not too busy. Very hot and powerful showers. The site was about half full when we stayed.
This place is quite expensive... We paid $48 for a powered site for two people. That said, it's also very good. Knowledgeable staff, clean facilities and hot showers were quite nice. We stayed here while driving south and then returned when coming back north again. The powered sites are pretty small and close together. Also be aware that when it rains, the trees above will pour water onto your roof all night and make it sound like a steel drum band!
Phil and Mel Rowson
A very lively place to stay, lots of facilities didn't have to queue for showers, laundry etc. hot tub very busy but a rainy day. We loved the on site restaurant. Large group of foreign exchange students staying who sang to the waitress in Maori which was lovely to witness, site is walking distance from all Franz Joseph has to offer ie supermarket, West Coast Wildlife Centre. Very quiet overnight.
One of our favorite campsites in NZ. Friendly staff, restaurant and bar was so fun. Campsites great along with the rooms if you wanted a break from camping. Cheap and great facilities
<ore of a backpackers hub than a rainforest 'retreat'....the sights are nicely surrounded by lush rainforest however the bathrooms where a bit dirty and run down and the staff at reception were not very helpful!
After reading poor previous reviews we were sceptical to stay here however like most places where we judged on reviews we were proved wrong. This place had a really good tropical feel with free unlimited wifi. Yes the campsites are quite close and not very big however you only need enough space to park your van- if you have a large motor home it probably isn’t ideal for you. There is a restaurant onsite which had a buffet all you can eat pizza night and free drink for only $20. For a small town with not many options we thought this place was good to stay. $46 for two people for a powered site- not cheap but most places are all around the same price in NZ unless you stay at a DOC site or free campground. Some peoples expectations seem to be so high- those people need to stay in luxury accommodation.
Beautiful location, surprisingly close to the heart of town. Campsites are embedded in thick bushland, but they are arranged as pairs so we were very close to one other. I'd have scored 10/10 if only one motorhome per bay. Facilities are new and clean. There's a restaurant/bar onsite and meals were sensational. We'd return here for sure.
Pay for a lovely forest site in the village. Facilities OK
Ridiculously close motorhome sites defeating the idea of a 'rainforest' retreat. The wifi was awful. Facilities were getting older but still clean and ok to use. Gravel sites.
A top place. Price and performance is very good. For this, a great facility. If all demands. Free wifi, shower for free and free spa use.
We have stayed there for a night and it was just perfect. The kitchen was tidy, showers and toilet very clean but the best of it was the campsite in the forest. Amazing!
Paid $39 for 2 adults for a powered site. The parking spots are ok, but the bathroom facilities are not very clean and old. It smells bad and the floor is very wet; even in the nighttime. The Wifi is not working properly. I better have a WiFi which works and I have to pay for than a Wifi which is free, but not working.
A lovely campsite with a real "rainforest" feel.
Felt like living in a rainforest. We really like the campervan bays that are separated by bush walls for some privacy. Facilities were clean and well put together.
Not a bad place. More geared up for backpackers and the hipster/seasonal staff but we were treated well.
A lovely haven in the middle of the rainforest. Tight spaces, but you don't notice as the rainforest surrounds you and separates the park and sites. Wifi was free, however so slow it's pretty much not functional. Bar and restaurant on site. Lots of buses / backpackers in front area, hotel rooms, but powered sites area was very quiet and peaceful. Adequate amenities, despite the park looking relatively full, never waited for toilet or shower and the hot water was free, unlimited and the best pressure on the South Island! Bliss!
Pleasant atmosphere and quiet, although a very busy site.
Lars Peter Morling
Basic facilities. Not enough places in the kitchen, toilet and shower. And very expensive!!!
Rude staff. Crowded with (noisy) backpackers.
One of our favourite campsites, cool concept! Great bar/restaurant with wood fire. Check out specials! Spaces quite tight but private. Friendly staff. Great base for the glaciers. Only negative: the bathrooms should be checked/cleaned twice a day as there are a lot of people using them! We stayed in January.
This holiday park was practically situated in Franz Josef town. Campsites, although gravel, were surrounded by trees. Not much for outside sitting area though. The kitchen area, although small, offered a warm fire and a cozy dining area. After a long day's travel, we arrived late and decided to have dinner at the restaurant. Service was good, but the food was terrible and overpriced. The showers and toilets were not well maintained - not a pleasant experience. We were also looking forward to a soak in the included spa tub, only to learn that there was one small crammed spa for such a large park. It was also closing by the time we arrived and we were unable to reserve the private spa. This "retreat" did not really feel like a retreat at all.
Dirty & run down. Rubbish around sites plus overflowing bins. Was post New Years so maybe a bad time to stay. Spa nice.
Beautiful scenery, great location, clean facilities.
Rainforest Retreat - Franz Josef Glacier is open for business… Visit Website …now's your chance to take a closer look.
Great facilities, beautifully designed (though camper parking can take some effort in some places) and well located. Book in advance.
Great to access the nearby Franz Josef Glacier - make sure you walk to the face of it before it retreats entirely!
Rainforest Retreat is more for young party people than for couples or families, which was a bit of a shame as we imagined this place being a soothing oasis... We went to the Monsoon Bar during a monsoon for a drink and were ignored by the waitress until she had finished smoking a cigarette and chatting to her friend. We left!
The kitchen facilities are OK, bit small for the size of the park. The nature trail is lacking and they pack the campers in!
Lovely site to stay in despite the rain. Wonderful toilet and shower facilities...hot water was very much welcome in the cold weather. Had dinner at the on site Mosoon restaurant but food was so so...our valley guide the next day recommended snake bites instead. But all in all, a very nice idyllic site to stay. Recommended.
It was ok, the location is good. Short walk to town.
Very nice tropical ambience, great power site! $35 for 2 adult with Rankers 10% discount. Showers and toilet clean!
Beautiful park with glowworms galore at night. Friendly hosts. Great facilities - a bit pricey, but you pay for the fact they are the only one in the area...
Beautiful spot, each van has a spot of rain forest. Toilets and showers very clean.
A great location. Stunning rainforest retreat for our RV and short walking distance to enjoy hot pools after long treks.
Fantastic holiday park in Franz Josef. Huge range of accommodation and lots of lovely sites. Great pub/restaurant on site and also free use of spa while staying there. Dog friendly which was great for us. We really enjoyed our stay there and would definitely return
Great holiday park. Literally like a rainforest! Great bar onsite called the Monsoon Bar. Make you sure you keep the map as it can be tricky to find your way around once you leave your site. Was reasonable for two people on a powered site (<$36). Gravel road throughout. Located very close to Franz.
Lovely spot to base yourself at Franz Josef for a few days. Each spot was nestled in the rainforest so felt quite private. Only thing that could make this a 10 would be more shower facilities.
Awesome location and surroundings, very friendly staff and great facilities. There's a nice onsite restaurant/bar and even a spa.
A well set out site, but it is big and probably would be crowded in peak times. Our powered site was fairly private. The facilities were very good, clean and free hot water. Be aware that it can feel like a war zone with the constant sound of helicopters. We recommend the Monsoon cafe which is attached, the pizzas were delicious. But stay clear when they have a tour bus in!
Reasonable site and the shower and toilet facilities were good. However, we were with friends and had asked when booking for the sites to be adjacent. They were - but with a big hedge between us and, instead, we were right next to a large camper in a relatively cramped space. Doing laundry was stressful because it was overly busy - with notices restricting removal of other people's laundry from machines while completed laundry was left in machines for over an hour by some inconsiderate campers. The camp was noisy, largely due to the large number of younger visitors and the kitchen was like a war zone! Not the place for a quiet stay!
Well equipped facility, sites a little cramped and close to neighbours. Quite brightly lit all night, which is annoying if you're a light sleeper. The nearby cabins and lodge area were noisy and crowded. Toilets and showers were well kept and clean. Franz Joseph is like a war zone during the day, with constant helicopter noise.
We stayed one night on a powered site. Location was good and the site is very beautifull surounded by forrest. However the shower and toilet facilities were terrible. They were dirty and smelly, the main block near us smelt of sick, probably from one of the many number of young and noisey Kiwi Experiance backpackers. Also the WiFi is a waste of money as the signal is poor and it was painfully slow, probably due to the high number of previously mentioned backpackers.
Friendly staff, great location and average price with good clean amenities
Slots for campervans are the smallest we've experienced in 2 weeks travelling the South Island (need curtains shut for privacy unless you want to see your neighbours breakfast!). Nice to have shrubs and trees around which diluted the impact of smaller pitches. Staff friendly and did move us when we asked for a slot to accommodate a larger van. Great position, close to all Franz Joseph amenities.
Great site, centrally located for Franz Josef, seems to be very busy with a restaurant onsite. Toilets and Showers were warm and clean but busy. They have over 50 powered sites but only 5 showers, a little hard to all get through in the morning.
David From Switzerland
Good camping site, beautifully located in a rainforest, very good and not expensive restaurant on site. Facilities are ok and clean. No WiFi at all (you can buy data but they warn you that the signal will be very poor)
The Rainforest Holiday Park has it all: super close to lots of bars, restaurants, and places to book helicopter and glacier tours, a helpful reception that can also book tours for you, lots of spots for campervans and backpackers, clean and modern facilities, good wifi, and it's in a beautiful area that feels like you're in nature. A lot of backpackers on the Kiwi Experience busses come here too and hang out at Monsoon bar on the property, so it's very fun and you can meet a lot of people. Highly recommended!
Nice staff (a German girl very friendly), amazing place to park the campervan between the forest (for $39NZD for 2 people, power site and 24 hours free Wifi). Good hot showers, good kitchen with fridge, free BBQ and even a jacuzzi. There is a pub/restaurant with big TV screen and chimney!
Hot water environment is very good in the rainforest, a great camp.
Stayed for a couple of nights at this place. The powered sites were in their own individual bush cave which was a new experience. Staff were super friendly (thanks Georgie - you're a star) and the price was ok ($37 per couple). Its located one street back from the main road so not far to walk if you need a coffee or a meal. There's a spa on site, or you can walk down the road to the flash hot pool complex.
Bath rooms were clean enough, with plenty of hot water, great pressure, and no timer. Looks like some of the temporary repairs have become permanent, and the ladies bathroom had mould in it - so could do with a bit of TLC. Lastly - there's an onsite pub and restaurant so not far to go for a meal or a beer!
Stayed here once for New Years and again now. Enjoyed this place much more the second time around. Washroom had automatic heater when you enter, keeps facilities nice and warm while showering and getting ready. Second block of washrooms closed for winter season but not as busy this time of year anyways. Hot tub still open but didn't use it. Discount prices this time of year $34 plus $16 for additional adult for powered camper spot. Will stay here again in future, friendly staff.
Nice place with the big plus of the free hot pool for cold days!! Kitchen spacious and clean. Receptionists friendly. It was quite crowded as all the tour busses stop there, party - hostel - atmosphere even on a Monday. Shared mixed bathrooms with inconsistent water temperature. Worth its price but a few things to improve.
Best holiday park experience ever! It had the mixed vibes of camper van park as well as backpacker. Reception help was the most friendliest and heartwarming one. Shower was the best too! Toilet clean and so at ease! Hot water rocks! Kitchen fully equipped, you could prolly cook for a hundred pax at ease.
Highly highly recommended!
The shower made my day!! What a shower! Water pressure was outstanding, fantastic temperature and all very clean! On site hot tub and good bar/restaurant.
We stayed one night in April with another family on one of their powered sites. The rainforest surrounds were lovely and there were good things to keep the children occupied. We did find the site a bit expensive but that was to be expected given the location.
Clean facilities, small campsites, too pricey (expensive), very commercial.
Good central location and well thought out layout to offer some privacy on a big campsite. Good facilities and plenty of them. Free hot tub a bonus.
Really a highlight - very friendly, clean and lovely site. Rainforest beautiful as well.
Proper site. The price is justified by the proximity of the glacier and the center of our stay ville.lors the spa was closed (water scarcity) and paying sauna and wifi $ 4 for 24 hours. The sites are small this is the first time we did not have room to unfold our auvant.
Best holidaypark we visit on our trip. Good facilities en Nice spots.
Great staff, very helpful after we broke down on our way to Hokitika and had to find emergency accommodation. . Room was beautiful and warm. Bunks beds, but u take what u can get in a pinch. Had our own shower, toilet, tv, and coffee/tea facilities, the only disappointment was the noisy people above us. Stomping and banging till early hours.
Very nice camping space with lots of plants (it is in the middle of the rainforest, as the name suggests). The staff is very friendly and helpful, while the facilities are excellent (kitchen, showers / toilets, ...). There is a free to use hot tub, that is not very big but quite relaxing. One downside is that the actual camping places for camper vans are pretty small, however, due to all the plants, some privacy is still given.
Rain in the Rainforest. You can have it here and it is great. We never had so much rain in our life. But to be in the rainforest with so much different plants is a great experience. The slots were very private. We had two smaller ones for us and so the view was spectacular. The facilities were ok. The reception is friendly. You have to go to the hot pools. 36, 38 or 40 hot pools in the rain. After two weeks in a a caravan it is the perfect time off activity.
Wonderful atmosphere between the trees, tidy and quiet. Restaurant offers yummy, thin pizzas (Pizza Fest every other day: all you can eat for $17)
No free WiFi, therefore only 9 out of 10.
I wasn't crazy about this place even though the facilities are excellent. It has an urban rainforest feel to it and way too organized. Great staff, etc. I guess I prefer a more rural, isolated DOC type place. For those preferring the amenities to the camping experience will love it here.
Very good campsite, very clean, in the forest, good and cheap restaurant for backpackers.
Absolut fantastic atmosphere in the rainforest. Lovely bar but on the camping site it was quiet anyway. Clean facilities. When we were there, it rained cats and dogs the hole day long...
Good location. Lively and friendly atmosphere, good WIFI.
Clean facilities, best site we have got so far - felt like camping in the rainforest - shady site and very spacious.
Perfect in the rainforest, nice meals and bar, central.
Great place, super facilities and nice staff.
Fantastic place, but kitchen and sanitary facilities not so good.
Luca Maria Willensrock
Beautiful campsite right in the rainforest, sanitary facilities are not too good.
$20 per person just for a park site! Advertising big swimming spa, which turns out to be really small, facilities clean and tidy.
Very modern and clean. Nice pool!
A really clean and cosy place. Big plus, free jacuzzi!
Very cosy with the rainforest.
Good location, free jacuzzi.
Nice location with a whirlpool and sauna.
Superb setting in rainforest, good space for vehicle, clean.
Top! Also great restaurant.
Nice staff, clean facilities $35 2 people non powered.
Convenient, clean, small sites.
Clean, free spa, fun, big, table at each van spot.
Very nice place to camp. Beautiful location with even more beautiful views. Everything was clean. Easy walk to glacier tours and restaurants.
Our background: We stayed here during our 5 weeks campervan tour through the north and south island. We were 2 adults and a baby (9 months) and travelled with a large campervan.
Rating: beautifully located in kind of a rain forest. Stands on gravel. Showers are limited but good. Additional showers are under construction. Good restaurant on site. Short walk into city center. Kitchen ok. Free spa on site. Laundry good.
The site is walking distance from the town centre. The powered sites all have their own tables and chairs and have some privacy. The bar/restaurant on site was packed full of young people staying in the chalets the night we stayed.
Nigel & Annie Dale
Lovely site, really does feel like you are in the rainforest. Showers and toilets clean & good, renovations underway for an additional block which will make it even better. Staff delightful, $39 for 2 adults & free showers. Nice bar & restaurant on site
Nice place although the number of showers are limited.
Busy but pleasant site, set in native forest which was lovely. Good toilet/shower facilities. The spa was broken whilst we were there.
Staff were friendly, particularly the receptionist, although when we enquired about the spa being broken, there was no apology or offer to use the private spa for free.
Food and drink at the on site restaurant was cheap (there is a budget menu available) but it showed in the quality.
Can't remember price exactly but was approx $25 for a powered site
Crowded and narrow, only a few facilities, unfriendly staff.
Very clean and the accommodation was great.
Spa and pool.
Ideally situated next to the township. Parked up in a Rain Forest..amazing...views up to snow capped mountains. Amenities were functional and clean. Showers no more than ok. Some noise issues with drunken young uns at the camp centre but overall an interesting site
Its a pretty good place to stay in a campervan, but my wife used the portacom showers and had a very bad time- apparently the whole floor floods.
This is a fab spot with a great private spa which is cheap as chips to use. We stayed in our motorhome and it was our favourite camping facility for the whole journey. Highly recommend this place
Big campsite, but nice grounds. Little walkways through the trees in & out of the site. Good base if your doing activities early the next morning!
One word that describes it best - HUGE..!!
This park was like you're living in an actual rainforest.. Green & bushy all around, with parking sites between the trees and ample space around to not feel cramped in parking..
Its kitchen, bbq & bathrooms were centrally located and alongside dumping, fresh water and car wash.. They also had hot water pool complimentary with stay..
We loved the entire feel of the park, its location and facilities a lot!
Must-stay if you're in Franz...

Best spot we ever had. Cleaning toilets and showers not soo good! Students cleaning for a bed and meal; no supervision!
Amazing setting, good private spa.
Nice location, clean showers and nice people at the reception.
Site well laid out, services plenty and of really good standard. Really nice site.
Sights in the 'forest' really nice. Santiary small and not as clean as we expected.
Right in town, beautiful setting among the trees with mountain views, very good facilities. Private sites, friendly staff.
Poor kitchen facilities, good location, other facilities were good, nice showers and clean.
We could shake hands with neighbours from our motorhome windows!
The best campsite we stayed in.
Very good, great location, good facilities, perfect bar and restaurant. Showers/toilets could have been better.
Excellent showers but need more, good bar and restaurant and cooking facilities. But, lots of people from Kiwi Experience bus!!!
Wonderfully located in the Rainforest. Enough place for each campervan.
Good site with a nice bar/restaurant on site with free drink promotion for guests. Shower rooms needed improving.
Nice park with lots of private space. Only three showers, in the morning you have to wait for your turn.

In a middle of the rainforest! Close to town.
Well laid out site in the centre of Franz Josef although you would not think you were too close to the town. All ammenities on site.
Robert & Bridget Holden
Bathrooms not very clean, decent basic kitchen with dirty and full fridge.
Seth & Carla
Reasonably priced for good facilities and friendly service - no oven in the kitchen.
Gets a high mark in spite of barely adequate shower and toilet facilities. Because of it's stunning location - new toilet block planned.
Clean and central although small kitchen facilities.
Such a pretty campground. All ammenities were modern and clean. Great bar and restaurant with nice food.
Paid site - average cost, good facilities in a nice setting.
$35 powered site for 2 people, free hot tub, nice staff and great location.
Excellent! Big jacuzi included in the price! Good accommodation. Nice location, in the beach forest.
Lovely rainforest setting, but very small sites for a large 6 berth camper. Not enough shower facilities for all campers and they smelled funny - I think they were upgrading at the time. Great atmosphere with tourists from all over the world. OK for an overnight stay
Stayed here for one night in a campervan on a powered site. Site gravel, so no problems with mud. Did not use kitchen facilities. Female bathrooms adequate with lots of (free) hot water. Male bathrooms in demountable buildings. Laundry facilities limited. Decking surrounding toilets and laundry very slippery in the cold - my husband slipped over. Pleasant forest/bush surroundings.
Good deal for Spaceships. Decent kitchen facilities, nice bathrooms although some under renovation. Good location.
Very good facilities and tour rates.
Great bar, lovely setting.
Toilet/shower facilties very poor, they say they will be rebuilt but that won't help me. Only there for two nights.
Not as clean, facilities not as good, mens toilets prefabs.
Goof facilities and lovely forest surrounding. Free spa pool. Only slight problem was the male toilets and showers were in a portacabin and a bit cramped, other wise very good campsite.
Margit and Corein Groenevelt
Setting is beautiful but too crowded and facilities very basic.
Mulder & vanNistelrooij
Nice location, close to little town, clean showers, good facilities.
It has everything you need. There are a lot of people but if you are camping it is all right. Limited tent space, no grassy areas, it is hard to sleep on pebbles!
Very unique, surrounded by rainforest, very good facilities, kind and helpful staff at reception.
Good facilties for woman/hot spa pool/missing hairdyer.
Facitlities small and a little old.
Tiny sites, dirty kitchen and showers/mens toilets were only temporary. Enclosed restaurant: food not good and waited for one hour.
This really was a great park to camp! They were improving on some fascilities, those weren't great. The location was perfect which totally made up for that.
Rainforest Retreat - Franz Josef Glacier is open for business… Visit Website …now's your chance to take a closer look.
No kitchen, no facilities, price high, only 2 showers for 15 sites!
Mike and Sue Clark
Happy hour till nine. Excellent bar and food, rainforest atmosphere in park. All facilities.
Mike and Diane Baker
Very clean, fabulous location, easy walk to shops etc. Was in beautiful bush setting.
Absolutely stunning location and perfectly situated for a stroll into town.
A nice rainforest experience, nearby town centre, glacier guides and hot pools. Nice restaurant too.
Peter and Hilda
Quiet, beautiful setting. Within walking distance of village and thermal pools.
Lovely rainforest setting. Not enough toilets/showers for all the campervans staying overnight.
We stayed here in Nvember 2010 (Campervan) Bathroom/Toilet facilities were poor. Would not recommend this park for campers. Restaurant was ok, staff was ok. .
Great setting of the camp and informative and helpful staff.
Matthias & Ceristiane
Campsites tucked in pretty rainforest with clean facilities and helpful staff. Close to everything so no need to move the van once you are there. Happy we chose to stay here having seen the alternatives.
Best campground we stayed at, in our 3 weeks in NZ. Monsoons Restauarnt and Bar rocks! We were on our honeymoon and I still had to drag my husband home to our motorhome from this great bar! Great facilities and top customer service too.
We loved it there! We stayed in the hotel and there were kitchen facilities. The bar had great food and drinks...they had a special going where were got 1 free appetizer and drink per meal. There is a little play area for kids that we liked too.
A small campground surrounding by rainforest. Includes a bar and restaurant. Facilities are o.k.
Great pitches, but not one bird heard - you need to see the amount of trees to understand why this was strange!
Very nice atmosphere between the trees. Shower for men in a conainer for men at size of 1.6m only. Ladies shower excellent.
Best setting in Franz Josef, set in beautiful trees and next to the mountains. No wifi which was a bit disappointing but had access in the reception. Helpful staff, facilities under renovation but found the current showers great. It has its own bar which is friendly short walk to the spa or town. Eat at the Blue Ice Cafe, worth every penny!
Different to wake in surroundings of rain forest, inspiring scenery. No bugs either!!
which was nice suprise. Fantastic power showers.
Location and park arrangement wonderful But very bad facilities.
Good value, nice bay, although the showers and toilets weren't the best.
Beautiful nature on the campsite and enough facilities
Individual sites for campervans. really nice showers. One of the nicest places we've been even though it poured down nonstop the entire time!
Well equipped, good info about things to do in surrounding area.
Like I imagine New Zealand! Rainforest
Prices matched a 5 star but facilities were totally inadequate for the size of site. A major disappointment!
Close to town and a beautiful park.
$15 per person, with spa for free....... :-D
Camping directly in the rainforest, great showers, very clean.
Boring pitches but in middle of rainforest! Good facilities.
Good facilities, clean & modern, however powered campsites are quite tight & some bigger campers struggled to get in the spaces. You also don't have much room around your campervan.
Super- cool camping area. You really stay in the rainforest.
Nice location in the middle of the rain forest - a must see!
Loved it. Clean, big kitchen, global gossip hot spot, pool table, bar, convenience store, what more could you ask for!
Very good showers + facilities, including restaurant + booking of trips for you.
Free spa. Onsite bar. Very friendly atmosphere + cheap.
Sanitary standard was borderline. Not enough sinks.
Great scenery. Campers all have their own private space.
