Was unsure about staying here after some reviews but glad we did. Came in a camper for a non powered site. Friendly staff on phone and at desk. Plenty of toilets and hot showers. Large fully equipped kitchen with multiple stations. Washer $4 and dryer $2 for 26 mins. Dump station and water available. Nice and quiet. Biggest plus was the goats, chickens and little pony.
Came off the ferry from Picton to Wellington late hoping to get a powered spot for our self contained camper. Keith answered the phone late, was able to take payment over the phone, and was quick and easy to work with.
Haven’t used the facilities, but the grounds were easy to navigate and seemed well kept.
After dealing with a lot of bad spots, it was nice to come across this place easily and quickly from Wellington.

The facilities are a bit old but it's very clean. Nice and friendly stsff, good campground, worth to stay.
I read some of the reviews and was expecting a fairly average experience but was pleasantly surprised. Nice clean toilets and showers, pleasant reception, and tidy campsite. Was disappointing that there was a 6 foot fence between the campsite and the river so nothing special on the site itself but lovely public parks and walks right next door.
Sorry to say that I will not recommend this, felt very uneasy there! Very old bathrooms but I must say it was clean! Laundry facilities old and not washing and drying as it should. But you don't have much other choice there, had to take the early ferry.

Let's start at the start I went to the holiday park because me and my young family were homeless i was under alot of pressure. It was a tough time for me as it is and the Male host came across a very nosy person . Me and my babiez dad seprated a few months later . When the male host found that out due to gossp he began being stalker ish and always apearing everywhere i was on the camping grounds .Passing sexual commebts to wards females other than my self .Touch me on my stomic and pelvic area i was scared and frigtend at that point a few days later i hace child youth and family on my door step with police to take my baby away from me . The feeling I felt Was like a peace of me died tge pain i still feel. I read the the custody papers and wat do ya no keith the host name is in my papers telling malisous lies about my parenting and my motherly behavous due to the fact I court him out he also knock on tbe cabion door asuming my babies dad was thier ect.. I still dont have my son in my care because of this person he has made my life a living hell i would like to see this guy one day being seen as a sexual preditor and a family destoryer . Mums dads i honestly recomend u no . Have long stay here if posible . I am yet to recive my rent and bond
Expensive and unsafe (obstacles) Park. Gravel roads with pot holes are very dangerous, particularly at night in wet weather with NO LIGHTING!!!. Has a rough stony bank with tree roots sticking out on journey from toilet to powered site. No toilet paper in ladies toilet pm or am. Poor shower pressure but toilets and showers clean. Greatly overpriced but their excuse is near Wellington. Would not stay there again.
Very nice place to stay, clean and quiet, owner nice and I guess is the best place near Wellington to stay. Kitchen clean and big. Hot water, big fridge, lots of cookers.
Expensive for its value. Facilities a bit old. Someone threw our wet clothes out of the dryer on the floor and stole a t-shirt! Our baby girl's clothes were spread all over the ground! Seriously, who would do that?!
Nice facilities made it worth the $15 each for unpowered site, great toilets, hot shower, large kitchen and laundry, powerpoints avaiable in kitchen and laundry. Farm animals around would entertain kids. Perfect for catching the Picton ferry the following day half an hour drive away - allow an hour though in case of traffic.

The park is pretty nice & has a great location, but it's too bad our rating is so low due to its rude owners. The husband & wife were inhospitable on multiple, separate interactions. We rented a standard cabin that smelled of mildew for $45 (a set price for the cabin, so my partner and I paid $22.50 each). This included 2 bunk beds, small electric heater, two power points, our own electric water kettle, & access to a minimal kitchen, but no linens were provided. At a variety of overpriced rates, there are larger furnished cabins to rent and space to park campervans and pitch tents. The shared facilities included a refrigerator/freezer, with 7 stove top burners, sinks, a few pots, pans and cutlery, 18 inch television, & a couple sets of tables and chairs. The laundry machines were cheap in comparison to local businesses (1 wash is $2, and 15 minutes to dry for $1).
Our stay was okay until the middle of the night when the heater turned off & wouldn't turn back on again. We also noticed that the clothesline next to our cabin was broken, & discovered that the women's bathroom was closed, leaving the gross single stall handicap bathroom alternative to the brave. It would have been nice to be warned of these limitations before booking, but we were happy to have a couple of trickling hot showers with poor water pressure.
When we tried to give the owner a heads up that the heater stopped working throughout the night, they tried to sidestep the problem. They brought us back to the cabin while we were checking out and closed an open window that they had secretly jammed open (we thought it was another broken amenity). They then blamed us for the mildew smell, which only made us want to leave more.
These factors were demonstrative of our last resort option, as we had been camping in the much better alternative Kaitoke Regional Park. If only there was better management of the otherwise good facilities.
Stayed in July 2015 6
Has all your basic needs and a beautiful park next to it, but nothing special about it. Shame that you can't see the river and there are big electricity towers right next to it.
Quiet campground next to the Hutt river. Plenty of room for 7.2m van. Good toilets & showers - clean. Did not see much of the owners as we arrived late on first night.
Great place to explore LOTR film locations - next to Isengard (Harcourt Park) gardens and down the valley from Rivendell (Kaitoke Regional Park). Also convenient for Wellington and the ferry.
Large, peaceful environment. Unit was clean, tidy and comfortable. Really friendly and helpful hosts where nothing was any trouble. They were even brilliant when there was a late change. Would definitely come back.
I wanted to share my unfortunate experience. My boyfriend and I were driving into Wellington, about an hour away and I called to see if they had any cabins available. I spoke with a women, at 5: 20pm, who said yes they had space and that she would hold the cabin for us until 6: 30. I said great, but then I asked of she could hold out till 7pm just on case we ran into traffic...She said, well of you have a credit card I can hold it all night for you. ..So silly me, I gave her my credit card#. About 45 minutes late around 6: 10pm, we decided to stop earlier because we were tired and called to cancel. She then told me she was going to charge my credit card a cancellation fee. I tried to dispute by saying that out hadn't even been an hour, well before.6: 30,.the original time she said she could hold it for, and that she never advised there would be a cancellation fee. She then told me to "Shut Up!" and that I was putting words into her mouth, told me that I was being unreasonable, "whatever you're being charged!" then hung up the phone on me. I had no opportunity to attempt to reason with her. I tried putting a hold on my credit card but she had already put the charge through. I tried calling her back about an hour later to advise her that I would be filing a complaint with consumer affairs and she said "Whatever" and hung up on me again. I was in shock at her immature way of dealing with a customer by just hanging up the phone. We never stayed their park so I honestly can't speak about the facility but the customer service was poor enough for me to write a negative review.
Not excited about this campground but showers, kitchens are clean and free. Sites are spacious and staff is fine.
For a Holiday park is was OK, nothing outstanding. It has good clean facilities and plenty of room. It was a good place to stop and charge our batteries after a very rainy, rough crossing on the ferry and arriving in Wellington in the dark and rain.
Arrived extremely stressed having taken the Akatarawa Valley road across from Waikanae.
NOTE - DO NOT USE THAT ROAD IN A CAMPERVAN!!
The manager was very helpful and site good but the first night was spoiled by rowdy young neighbours (outside the park) partying until late. Not unusual we were told.
Second night was fine.
Advertised as river front, in reality most sites backed into an 8ft frence and the river was on the sother side. Very hospitable hosts though.
Nice site, good amenities.
Rather run down. We were left feeling that the lack of competition so close to Wellington had lead to a "take it or leave it" attitude.
This is an alternative campsite to go to before getting ferry. 30 mins away from ferry port. Really pleasant campground set next to the river and a nice park.
Very pleasant, helpful staff in reception, however - reception wasn't open at 10am when we left and we had food stolen from fridge. A little bit noisy but good facilities.
Good facilities (except outdoor grill) No awesome views.
Good location to catch Ferry from, Could have used better directions to Ferry. Great showers.
Secluded, O.K facilities, good music in the bathroom!
