We stopped at this ground on our way to Wellington because of previous reviews. Can't fault it. Friendly people, good facilities including a games room, and nice and quiet when we visited in November. We even ended up in the local pub drinking with the very friendly locals.

Very quiet village with a beach you can drive for miles on. Campsite is different! Have a walk around just to look at the creative caravan conversations! We could chose our pitch. Walk to beach... local shop serves delicious ice cream! Showers are good with music and colourful shower curtains! TV room and snooker room.

Great stop on the way north after the Wellington ferry. Extremely pleased with the friendliness of the staff, cleanliness of the facilities and ability to bring a pet. Will definitely be back and highly recommend for camping and the bunk houses (cheap and cheerful). Am sure the other rooms are just as fantastic too!

Loved this place. I stayed in the winter so it wasn't busy, but I can see how this would be a must stop in the summer. Facilities are modern and clean, and the owners were lovely. When I arrived I was taken around and shown where everything was. I didn't travel with any children, but there was a very cool looking playground which I could see being a hit with the kids if you are travelling with them.
You are given 1gb of free wifi which was very much appreciated.
Can't recommend this place enough.

Himatangi has the most friendly people se have met in New Zealand!! The man responsible from the camping ground helped us without doubt when we were in trouble. The camping is really easy to go in and the bathrooms are very very clean and all the installations are in excellent conditions. We were so happy to stayed here for one night as it's a good point to stop on our way to Wellington.

Last weekend we had the pleasure of staying at the Himatangi Beach Holiday Park. Living in Palmerston North we were looking for an affordable get away to stay at an celebrate my wifes 40th birthday.

Just down the road is a beautiful country style community hall on the beach that held the 40th birthday party. With the holiday park so close we were able to walk to and from the hall with ease and the owners bent over backwards to make us welcome and assist us with the odd mulitboard etc for the party.

We have travelled across the country and have never come across a cleaner, brighter, put together holiday park than this one. Normally there are minor issues with even the best but I was hard pressed to find any.

Our family travelled in bunches from 3 different directions and ALL of them were blown away with the location, the spotless facilities and how child friendly the whole place is. I really cant thank the owners enough for making my wifes birthday weekend an extra special one.

Highly recommended :)

My wife and I have been travelling around the North Island for over a week now and this one the best holiday parks we've stayed at. Very clean facilities and kitchen. Short walk to the beach. Margaret was incredibly friendly and helpful.
And who doesn't like free showers? Plus a pool table and table tennis table too. There was a trampoline but I didn't get to use it as it was often in use. Probably a good thing at 34 I'd only have done myself an injury!
Great value for money.

Very good holiday park, with immaculately clean facilities. The campground has many permanent facilities (caravans with annex's built around them, meaning most sites are taken, but will often be empty. Very friendly hosts. Only issue staying here is the hoons/bogans on motorbikes and cars, either on the road or the beach - nothing wrong with the campground itself, which is excellent

We had a 3 night stay in a kitchen cabin in February 2014. Our cabin had a bedroom and kitchen and a covered deck with table and chairs where we could eat and sit out. Himatangi is a quiet resort with a vast beach, a small shop and takeaway and little else. The park is attractive and well run, shared facilities are modern and very clean. The owners are friendly and helpful: since we were visiting from the UK there had been a lot of emailing ahead of time to make arrangements which were exactly as planned.

Quite a busy camp. Great facilities and very clean. You can tell the owners take pride in their camp ground. They are very helpful and friendly and they obvously love kids and are very family orientated. Thanks for the 4pm lollie scrambles...my daughter loved them! Beach is just a very short stroll away and the local dairy is very reasonably priced for a small town. Great to see and hear everyone socialising at night either by their camps or in the community room at the camp ground. Would definately stay here again.

We spent March 2013 travelling around North Island in a large self-contained camper van. We visited a lot of different camping places and holiday parks and we’ve reviewed them all for Rankers. We judged them by different criteria from most people. We weren’t interested in playgrounds, paddling pools, trampolines, or all the other facilities for children. Instead we wanted peace and tranquillity, a beautiful location, clean and accessible facilities, and a decent amount of space between sites. We used the holiday parks mostly for one night stops and did not consider them as holiday destinations in their own right. Please read the following review with this in mind.

We had the impression that the camp was a bit overcrowded with permanent caravans, not all in particularly good condition, giving a bad impression at first, but we had a free choice of sites and found one which was relatively secluded but still handy for the excellent facilities. Probably the best quality showers and toilets we saw anywhere, and really they deserve a 10, but the general feeling of the place wasn’t up to the same standard, so the score is lower.

Thoroughly recommendend as the cleanest, most cared about holiday park I've ever encountered. The facilities and amenities are as if they've just been unwrapped....so amazingly clean and well looked after. Spotless and spacious showers and bathrooms. Tidy and hygenic kitchens and amazing communal / social areas. The owners go beyond the call of duty and they really do care that their guests have an enjoyable stay. And, if dogs are an important part of your family, thay have a brilliant time too...a lush reserve with a river behind the grounds leads straight to the beach. What a find....truely a wonderful experience for New Zealanders and tourists alike. Genuine hospitality like this is a real scarce find in this day and age!!! Thank you Margaret and Dennis...you surpassed all our expectations! What excellent role models to the tourism / hospitality industry. We look forward to revisiting your amazing place next year.
