Good location for mountain biking. Thermal hot pools and outdoor pool were amazing. Facilities need updating.

As a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids) we love our stay here. Clean and tidy and very comfortable warm cabins. The thermal’s pools are deliciously hot even in the middle of winter. Staff were very friendly. Close to town and mountain biking- we’ll be back!

I paid $20 per night for an unpowered tent site, and set up under a tree which was fairly private although the tent site is a field. There was unlimited access to hot pools, a decent kitchen and dining area, a living room with outlets, and showers. There are no utensils or cookware out, but available for rent. Lots of friendly Kiwis camping here as well, instead of just tourists. Close to mountain biking, which is why I picked the spot.

Booked two nights in a powered site for motorhome. Basically a dust bowl of a parking space next to a covered walkway. Communal facilities were extremely busy. Kitchen consisted of 5 kitchen bays, each bay with stove/stove with oven, bench space, and sink. Generally well laid out with lots of additional features, microwaves, toasters etc. Dining room was roomy, but busy. Bathrooms were dated and stainless steel shower tray was slippery. Kids pool was popular with kids not warm, and hot pools disappointing could be cleaner.
Each camping location is approved by a regional council in NZ. So if it shows on the map, you’re allowed to stay.

Good value to camp and unlimited use of thermal pools until close then able to access again early am before opening. Busy site, kitchen facilities ( hot plate took a long time to cook on), laundry facilities, drying room and hot showers and toilets. Great place to unwind after long day of driving. Food available to purchase from cafe a bit expensive and not that great.

Stayed in the non-powered camper area which was a field. Managed to park the van near a picnic table which was nice, otherwise you’re out in the open a tad. Kitchen decent, no cooking supplies though. Very close to the mountain biking which is nice. Simple and a bit dated but it is what it is.

The hot pools are nice but the facilities are dated and not all of the BBQs had gas connected so we had to hunt around to find one that was working to be able to cook. It's untidy previous guests old socks on the floor of the pitch. There aren't any views to admire of an evening.

Costs: 45$ powered campsite, 2persons, 1night
+ big kitchen with almost all electronic appliance
+ thermal hot pools
+ hot showers, no extra charge
+ bathrooms and kitchen clean
- strong smell
- paid wifi
- no charm, didn’t feel cozy
All in all a good stay for a night but not more.

Interesting place because it's very close to the Wai O Tapu thermal wonderland. The free thermal pool are a good place to have a break at the end of the day.
But sleeping here was hard. The campground is little, and we couldn't even open the doors of our campervan. Some other cars came and parked too close. And of course they spent hours opening and closing their doors. The campground is not cheap, a bit more space would be appreciated

What a shame. This could be a really nice site but it needs some attention. The powered sites need tidying and weeding. It is a great location however for the geysers and for mountains biking so I would recommend for location.

Staff were friendly. Paid wifi came in handy. Site was pretty open to neighbours. Thermal pools were pretty industrial and exposed but free and used by us. The older kitchen was freezing cold and no supplies whatsoever. I believe you could hire cooking stuff if needed. The bathrooms as well were just cement floors but the showers were hot and no lines.

Winter review - Happy enough with the facilities - free hot springs (can get busy, and awkward), hot showers (temp and pressure both mediocre), helpful friendly staff, pretty grounds. Would've been nice to have an area to dry out towels and swimmers though.
