Stayed one night on the ocean side. Had great facilities and can’t beat the location. Just a few feet from the trail around the mountain, shops and restaurants within walking distance and the beach just a minute or two walk away. Sits we’re a bit tight, but not bad. Only complaint I have is the online booking doesn’t let you pick a specific site, so I just kept making requests until I got a spot I was happy with. Overall great spot and we will be back!
Expensive, but the location right between the beach and the mountain is awsome!
Couldn’t find the entrance initially (it’s at the beach end, not port end). Guy at check-in was really friendly and gave us a fantastic spot just below the mountain with an excellent view of the beach. Lots of walkers heading up the mountain in the morning, but not too early. Showers were hot, but you need to constantly press the button (no biggy!). Tried to use the dump station for grey water in our section, but it didn’t reach, so had to drive down to the main camping area. Campsite is an excellent location with the town, beach and mount within walking distance. Would recommend!
Great site, right next to the beach and the Mount, fabulous location. Lots of bars and restaurants nearby and a real upmarket cafe culture feel to the place. Excellent bus service into Tauranga. Stayed here for the very first Test match and the Bay Oval, Mt Maunganui. Lovely helpful staff on site. My only criticism is no wifi? You may think that's a good thing but for me it was definitely a negative.
Really nice camp ground. Right at the base of mount maunganui and close enough to the town shops cafes etc. I got non powered site(1 person) for $30 And with that you get into hot pools at cheaper rate.
Fantastic location right under the mountain with walking paths going straight past between the park and the beach, and lovely salt hot pools next door. Sites are a bit tight. This park is Council run which is a little different and shows in the customer service. Some of the people with caravans were pretty selfish parking both their van and vehicle plus having a big awning out in their site - we had one big vehicle parked ~80cm from the door side of our motorhome and the staff did nothing about it. The facilities were clean, but the showers were pretty ordinary - no temperature adjustment, just a button for warm water with average spray and the button needs to be pressed every 9-15 seconds (yes I timed it because it was so ridiculous...). For the prices at this park, the shower system is really annoying and unnecessary - if you have to have the button, 40-60 seconds is reasonable, not 9. I would recommend this park for the location but beware this is not a quiet, relaxed kind of place. It’s on the edge of a high-rise accommodation precinct with restaurants, shops, cinemas, etc nearby and loads of people walking past. We enjoyed the location for something different but prefer other quieter locations in NZ and would not stay here for an extended period of time.
Great ocean views if you get the right spot. I went off peak & got good site for $27 on own with power. Showers are on very short timers (like 10sec) but i was close & had sea views each visit so very happy. Very nice kitchen too.
This must be one of the most modern camps in NZ. Kitchens and toilets are spotless. The sites are relatively small. We stayed two nights, the first site was an absolute beach front position and every site on that side was taken. We asked to move to the harbour side for the next night as there were far fewer people there. We were given a site with no immediate neighbors and a view of the harbour. Interesting to see the ships, including cruise liners coming and going.
Considering the price ($65 for 2pp, unpowered sight) we had high expectations on this place, which unfortunately it did not live up to. The sites were very close to one another, making it feel overly crowded even if some lots were unoccupied. The kitchen was completely bare, not even dishwashing liquid or a sponge, which we’ve never experienced before. There was no place to eat your food except for a bench outside the kitchen, which was a tad bit disappointing. Would’ve been nice to be able to eat inside. No lounge area/room so no choice but to stay in the tent or go into the city. The location on the other hand was superb, nice to be so close to Mt Maunganui and the beach!

Waking up to the beach, a mountain, and a stones throw from hot tubs and restaurants, we felt like the luckiest (and smartest for the price!) folks around. Although we arrived later in the day during the Christmas holiday rush, we got a camper van spot right on the beach, waking up to sand, sun, and ocean. Bathrooms and kitchens were clean and convenient. Only downside to such a superb spot is the crowd - sites are very close together, lots of beach goers strolling and talking, kids playing in the evening and morning. That being said, the hustle and bustle never got rowdy or disturbing. Definitely worth it for the spot!
Ideal spot on the beach right under the Mountain and a stones throw from the shops. Facilities are clean. Ideal for a run in the morning and sunbathing in the afternoon. Have stayed here in the winter and the wind from the seaside it impossible to sleep, beautiful in summer though.
We stayed the night in fact 2 nights as our campervan had to be repaired close to the camp ground. The facilities where OK but the sites were too small and there was a lot of noise all day.

A wonderful holiday camp with all the necessities...nice beach, shops and beautiful view of the beach/town above Mt Maunganui. Staff more then willing to extend their help, it's a lovely place altogether...thanks

We give a 9 because we cannot fault this place, we would give a 10 if it was for free.

Good spot to stay, nice view, clean amenities.
Fantastic location to the beach and Mount as well as walking distance to the strip of shops. Great kitchen facilities, showers are on 30 second timers which is a little annoying. Amenities block is noisy so would recommend requesting a site a short distance from the amenities. The bathroom doors just slam every time someone enters or exits. Would definitely stay here again.
What a place! $37 a night for a powered campervan spot for two people in off season makes it one of the best value for money campsites we have stayed in. We got spot no. 1 right by the beach and so the view from the back of our campervan was the sea and beach, stunning spot. Staff were very friendly and helpful, facilities clean and abundant with lots of hot showers (free). Laundry was $4 each for washing and drying. The dryers have a proper 80 minute cycle so you know your stuff won't be damp at the end. Fresh water and dump site for grey water and sewage. Only thing I would improve is putting in some wifi, but the lack of it didn't bother us too much.
Very clean facilities right at the beach, few steps from bars and restaurants. Surf can be great here and all the way down to Papamoa (stunning beach, loads of breaks). But expensive and a bit narrow.

Great location and example of a well run council camping ground. Front desk very friendly and helpful. Top location and facilities all clean and well maintained.
The location is great, we had a pitch near the beach, the pitch was big for a tent and a car but our neighbour thought he could use our space, not nice. But for one night we didn't bother. There is a hiking trail to the Mount Maunganui (worth to walk up!!) close by. Toilet and showers were clean. Kitchen huge with all you need. We paid $63 for a powered site, high season, it was Christmas.
We stayed one night on an unpowered site in January for $63 for 2 people. Thats just not reasonable. Facilities are clean and the campground is close to the beach and Mt Maunganui but that's all. Timed showers. No room to eat your meals. Just a bench outside the kitchen. Nothing provided in the kitchen (like pans or dishwashing liquid). Road outside the campground which can be loud. All tents side by side (crowded). Not worth the money.
Mt. Maunganui Holiday Park is in a beautiful area right near the picturesque ocean on two sides, beautiful hiking trails to the mountain right next to the park, and a hot springs public pool that is good for children. The facilities are good with laundry, a big kitchen, clean bathrooms, and hot showers. There's a street in walking distance with restaurants and bars, but aside from that, we didn't think there was too much to do and only passed through.
Clean campsite in a really good location, the kitchen was pretty cold and the TV is in a ridiculous place. You get discount off the hot pools next door which is definitely worth a visit.
Just excellent. Perfect location at a beautiful beach. Although maybe too busy in the high season it was ideal in May. Highly recommend (from a couple both 25).
Very expensive for what it is. Sites very close together and ridiculously crowded so the facilities could not be made the most of. Timed showers - did not expect this due to the price of the place.
Directly at the beach but very full on weekends. Not very calm.
Perfect location, a bit expensive, but next to the beach and mountain, very clean shower, kitchen and toilets.
2 forty'ish naturefreak gal's, exploring NZ in a campervan for 6 months.
Good = 1
Excellent = 2
- in following categories:
Location: 2; beachfront park, walking distance to downtown
Amenities: 1; clean and functional, good laundry facilities
Sites & parklayout: 0; small sites, beachfrontsites next to public walkway
Price: 1; 40$, powersite, 2 adults
Extras: 2; cafées, restaurants, shops and cinema close by. Lovely walk up and around Mt Maunganui
We stayed here for 1 night on a powered site and it was $35 per site although summer rates are $60 per site.
+ All facilities top draw,
+ View and location is fantastic,
+ Reasonably priced in winter although wouldn't go in summer,
+ Lots of pitches.
- Pitches quite close together,
- There's a couple of public walkways through camp so a constant stream of walkers and runners going past.
Perfect position to experience all the Mount has to offer. Try for a beach front site in the off season & watch the passing parade of people on the boardwalk.

We spent March 2013 travelling around North Island in a large self-contained camper van. We visited a lot of different camping places and holiday parks and we’ve reviewed them all for Rankers. We judged them by different criteria from most people. We weren’t interested in playgrounds, paddling pools, trampolines, or all the other facilities for children. Instead we wanted peace and tranquillity, a beautiful location, clean and accessible facilities, and a decent amount of space between sites. We used the holiday parks mostly for one night stops and did not consider them as holiday destinations in their own right. Please read the following review with this in mind.
Wonderful location, excellent facilities, and we managed to get a beachfront site. But the place was just too big and too crowded, and this was not even the main holiday season. Too many people packed in too close together, and even the beach and ocean view was densely populated by walkers, joggers, and dog walkers from very early morning until dark.
Despite the consistently high marks given in other reviews, we were disappointed.
Best pitch ever at the boardwalk next to the beach. A beautiful place to wake up in. Good clean facilities. Short walk to town.Hot pools (with discount) a short walk away.
Would love to live there.
Great facilities and great views.
Lovely campground, excellent location. Very good facilities, kitchen and bathrooms. Staff helpful. They should provide free WIFi to give a ten out of ten service and campground.

Excellent location and facilities! Great nearby walk around the mountain.
Great location, great showers, great scenery of the bottom of the Mount.
We were very impressed with this holiday park. The location is just perfect and we were allocated a raised terrace camp spot with an exceptional sea view. The staff were wonderful, very warm and friendly. We stayed at 8 motor camps in the North Island and this one was by far the best but was also the cheapest - go figure ?. The facilities were exceptional and the place looked brand new. Top marks !
Very nice campground at the beach.
Big site with new facilities. Great location next to the beach and restaurants within walking distance. Excellent cafe opposite site entrance for breakfast
Super crowded campsite, but very clean and the town of Mt Maunganui was cute with good restaurants.

Poor showers and very small kitchen.
$34 powered site. Great surf - close to everything, very modern and fresh, good showers and facilities.
camp right on the beach, facilities top-notch, very clean and new.
Good location right at the foot of the Mount and a stones throw away from the beach. Facilities are clean and modern.

Close to Mount, great facilities, close to town and beach, free internet, great!
Our campsite was a stones throw from the beautiful beach. Great spot.
Nice camping ground at the seaside.
Modern facilities which were very clean. Location couldn't be better.
close to the centre (walking distance)
in front of the beach facilities are top
Near the sea - Nice scenic view and FREE wireless internet.
Great location, at base of mount and right on the beach. Only issues is security : if you get one of the beachside spots the entire town walks right past your pitch as part of the walk round the mount, so anything left out can go walk about, and you get some dubious sorts drifting around. Oh, be wary of trying to check in after about 9:30pm as the after hours gatekeeper may try to refuse you entry, not matter what the people tell you on the phone at 5pm when you book!
Great location at the base of Mt Maunganui. Right on the beach and only a few minutes from restaurants. Well equipped camp kitchen (probably the best!!), good amenties. Try to get a site on the beachside.
Nice location, close to the beach, cafes, walking trails and salt water pools. It is a little diconcerning when your site is located next to the boardwalk. I think the many many people walking along there during the day had some interesting views of our campervan set-up.
Beautiful, seafront location, immaculate, brilliant modern kitchen & eating area as well as washing machines & great location to town.
