Stone throw away from the beach. Camping good but lacking privacy. Unreliable WiFi

Reviewed 5 months ago

Fitzroy Beach Holiday Park responds:

Thank you for your review, Lea. We really appreciate your feedback, and are glad you enjoyed being so close to the beach. WiFi is a bit of a challenge due to the size/layout of our park, but we are working on it and hoping to increase that reliability!
Thanks again,
Jenn

Lovely motor camp on a fine day, but can get a bit breezy at times. Friendly and helpful hosts. Plenty of space with access to the beach just a few steps. Conviently located beside the wonderful coastal cycle and walkway. The amenities are a bit light for a camp of this size. We’d happily stay here again.

It was my second time with fitzroy holiday park, and the experience was very good again. The venue is strategically located with lot of interesting places around. For instance the coastal walkway. If you are planning for a trek around Mt. Taranaki, mangorei road is just 20mins drive from this venue.

The venue has ample place to park your vehicle; since its nearby to the shore, one can always hear the waves everytime. The toilets and the kitchen are clean and user friendly.

I'll surely recommend this place to my friends and I would be glad to stay at this place again when I am visiting New Plymouth.

Cheers

We enjoyed the campground, because so we could swim in the sea before breakfast. To walk in the city it is half an hour. The facilities on the campground are in good shape. The only point, which was not good, was the connectivity to the internet, which was given everywhere on the site, but the data exchange worked only good at night!
We would go there again for a stay in the New Plymouth Region!

Right beside a huge beach and a long walkway. Great location if you want to be near the beach. It's busy. We got the last powered spot say 4 pm on Easter weekend, Good Friday. Lots of families with kids. It was quite lively during the day but really quieted down by about 10 pm. There are dining options nearby too.

This is definintly one of the best parks we have stayed in during the last 2 months. The park is directly at the beach and costal walkway. We stayed at a powered site directly in front of the kitchen, which I liked very much. Kitchen and facilities are very clean and tidy. Showers are free for unlimited hot water, but the water pressure was a little too hard. For the facilities you have to use a code, which helps keeping it clean and save at night. You get 200 MB per person free Wifi at the beginning and I was even offered another 400 for the next day, when we decided to stay another night. The hosts are super nice and helpful!
Only thing is that I find $48 for 2 adults a bit too expensive as we have seen similar places for $40.

Amazing motor camp. One of the best I have EVER stayed at. Very very clean. Well organised. Excellent (free) showers. Reasonably priced. Right on beach. Great layout means you don't feel like you are camping with 100s of others. Very helpful, friendly staff.

Stayed here for 3 days in a powered camper-van site whilst on a 3-month tour around New Zealand. Absolutely loved this place. One of the best campgrounds I’ve experienced in my travels.
HISTORY: The campground has been in place for years but was taken over by new owners/mgt. in July 2014 and completely re-furbished/re-planned/set-up in the last 24 months. As a result the facilities and amenities are in beautiful condition (as at Sep 2016).
LOCATION:: Unbeatable. Right by the beach so literally a 50 metre stroll through the dunes to get onto the black volcanic sands of New Plymouth beach. The Coastal Walkway runs alongside the campground so you can walk along its length yourself for a city and nature view. Approx. 5 minute stroll from the campground up to local Sandon shops and a 15 – 20 minute stroll along the Coastal Walkway right into the city centre for the New Plymouth Art Gallery and Museum, cafes, restaurants and bars. The local Fitzroy swimming pool (if you don’t fancy a sea-dip) is also a 5 minute walk away.
FACILITIES – Excellent. Spotlessly clean bathrooms/toilets/laundries. Lovely kitchens and lounges in 2 separate service-huts (servicing both ends of the campsite) plus outdoor decked areas for sitting out on.
CAMP PITCHES: Camper-van powered sites were well spaced out – and a lot of them. I stayed on pitch P30 which was particularly nice as slightly elevated so could see the sea over the trees.
AMBIENCE: Very peaceful and relaxed when I was here in NZ Winter season. Plenty of space between powered sites so zero feeling of being cramped or overlooked.
HELPFULNESS/FRIENDLINESS OF STAFF: Excellent. Staff were extremely helpful and took time to explain about the local walks and “must-sees” of New Plymouth.
OTHER: Comparing this Fitzroy Campground with its local alternative (Belt Road Campground – also very good) I preferred this Fitzroy campground due to its amazing beach side location.
