We recently stayed 2 nights with a group of friends - 6 sites in total. Was great as we were grouped together. Our sites were large and well located. Loved the pool, playground, mini golf and bike track. They are building a new ablutions block which will be great. Kitchen, toilets and showers all clean and spacious. Have booked again for NYE 20/21

Very nice campsite that offers everything you may or may not need - it is a little pricy though (I paid NZD 28.50 for just myself, a bike and tent), but considering the large and well equipped kitchen, clean bathrooms and Hot Springs I think the price is ok. You do have to pay for WiFi (NZD 2 for 250 MB).

Most expensive site in 7 weeks touring the country. Very good facilities and clearly well running and popular. $28 for a rooftop tent for 1 night was rediculous I though but end of a long day..... if you're self contained & don't need much for the night just drive a few ks north and there's a great spot on the shore just past the bird spotting/sanctuary - much better in my humble opinion.

Our family arrived on a Friday to Auckland International Airport, and we rent a motorhome to travel around NZ. Our first night and the last night of the trip we stayed at Miranda Holiday Park. Such an excellent way to start or finish our journey. This place has all the necessary accommodation for travelers and motorhomes, and even have access to the hot spring pool early day and late night. This place was one of the highlights of our trip to NZ.

Nice camping, with good facilities (toilets, showers etc)
The pool is amazing, really hot and relaxing!
Anyway it's quite expensive, we paid ~115$ for a powered site (1 night) with for 4 people (2 adults and 2 children of 13 and 16). I think it's really expensive for what you get, okay it's a nice place but the wifi was limited to 250 MB... Also Miranda is not a city, there is absolutely nothing here except cows so you can't really do something there, except enjoying the facilities of the camping!

BUT very noisy with families/children so don’t stay for a quiet night ( or ask to be further from facilities block). Although the park does have a very nice hot pool that was quiet in the evening, but I think you can pay to get into the hot pools behind the campsite too.

Kitchen looked good but we didn't need to use it. Large outdoor communal seating area, good laundry $3 wash, $3 dry. Quiet considering it is a large site and there was a big group of motor homes travelling together and it was their first night in NZ. Bernie the Manager was really helpful. He let us wash our hired Motorhome, even providing us with detergent, so that we returned it in good order.

I thought Miranda was actually a small town but there is no town. However, they do have an onsite shop, there is just the one hot pool, although next door is another pool complex (extra charge) which has hot and cold pools. Also next door is a takeaways bar you can order from too. The facilities at Miranda Park were fantastic! Very clean and plenty of toilets and showers. Huge kitchen with plenty of room for cooking. They also have activities around the park; mini golf, trike rides I think its called? And lots of things to do for kids as well. The pool is the feature of this place though and it didn't disappoint. We loved the pool! Very relaxing. Our unpowered site was huge and we had our own picnic table too. Friendly staff at reception, this place has it all.

We arrived late (just before 8pm when the office closes) so the kids couldn't have a swim (no kids after 8pm) but they went when the pool opened at 7:30 in the morning. Just the one pool at the park. Temp was about 35 degrees and it had that sulphur smell. It was pretty busy but it was a Saturday night. Very expensive in my opinion for the small site. It did look to have a huge camp kitchen but we didn't use it.

Only a third of the sites was occupied but everybody was crammed in one part of the park.

This is a really well kept site with very good amenities. It's location on the way to Auckland or the Coromandel make it an excellent stopover site. So my recommendation for the travel weary is to choose this site. The downside is that we have a small well behaved dog. It is not a criticism of the site but a recommendation for the future. For those of us who are all year round campers with dogs, please don't make us feel like lepers only giving us the transit sites at the start of the campsite. Why can't you allow us onto the site and set out a remote area, so we are not in the late arrivals and early departures, busiest part but well away from those who don't like dogs. If we have a dog we are New Zealanders and come on holiday all year around, keeping Family Parks running at even the quiet times. Provide us with the same surroundings as your other campers please.

Don't count on food being available at the advertised cafe/restaurant next door. We went for lunch at 1:30pm and were rudely told that the chef would not open again til 4pm (weird hours). Which was unfortunate since it was a 15minute drive to find a meal at short notice.

My favourite stay so far on our trip! There is a hot mineral pool to soak in which is just amazing and relaxing (there are also kid free times for the adults!). Full amenities including great hot showers and toilets, disabled toilet/shower avail and hairdryer. Though there are quite a few people here and we wre very close to the pool and ablutions it is extremely quiet we can only here the birds and the breeze. The staff here have been very accommodating and I'm cannot speak highly of them enough, we've had a few medical issues on our trip and difficulties with travel insurance and on asking for a late checkout she refused to take any more money from us as she said we had been through enough! Great to know there are still kind hearted business owners out there.

Another plus is it's only 1hour to Auckland airport, and as it offers black and grey water dumping facilities, it means it's s great stopover on your way to the airport!

Trampoline and tennis courts also available and bike/trike hire. Small shop at reception.

Can't wait to return!! Thank you so much

Absolutely DISGUSTED with management. I had to leave the park at 1.30am for personal reasons, and tried to re-enter at 7.15am. The boom gate was locked, i hopped out of my car to see what time the office opened, to discover an intercom for with a sign saying for after hours and emergencies, so I pressed it and no reply. I pressed it again, and heard nothing, so i went to see if I could activate the gate sensor from the other side. Then i hear a man yelling at me from 50m away 'WHAT DO YOU WANT?' I explained i was trying to get back into the park as my toddler children and husband were still in there (i had the food and clothes still in my car for them). He RUDELY kept asking me WHY i left, WHEN i left and then sooooo rudely told me 'We dont open until 8.30am! You shouldve parked your car and walked in'. HOW rude. If you have a buzzer saying for after hours, be ready to answer it, I wasnt to know it wasnt going to be answered professionally. He was acting as if it was 3am, not 7.15am! I cannot express how utterly rude that man was. He told me he was the manager. I pity the owners of this holiday park, i would 'spin' if he had anything to do with a business of mine. It was NONE of his business why i left, and i re-read the info we were given when we arrived, and it said in the first few lines about how there is an after hours buzzer in the event of needing staff help. I will be telling every person I know about how rubbish the management is here in this park (and we are locals). And what a shame because it does have good facilities, but not good enough for us or our friends to return for after such treatment.

Camping area etc all good but please note, this is not a pet friendly park. Note that the allocated pet area is outside the boomgate and not part of the camping, campervans and chalets in the inside of the park. There is a sign on the left side when entering but we were focused on the right side of the car, swiping our access card etc so we did not notice the sign. We spend the whole day without any problems and we were halfway through our barbeque when we were told by a staffmember that our yorkie was not allowed. After asking what to do now we were told that we were welcome to put our yorkie in the car outside in the parking area locked for the night until the next morning. This day was arranged because it was our 10 year wedding anniversary and needless to say, our guest then took our half cooked baebeque back to auckland with me bawling my eyes out as our special day was ruined. And as a final insult we were told because some of the guest had some drinks throughout the day, we were intoxicated because if you have a drink in your hand while having a barbeque, then you must be drunk.

Miranda Holiday Park responds:

Miranda Holiday Park is advertised as pet friendly by arrangement, a lot of parks do not allow dogs at all. The pet friendly area is outside the boom gate where there are sites for campervans/caravans and tents, it is all part of the park. Signage at the gate is quite clearly displayed, with 3 signs 1 being on the right. We have correspondence for this booking dating from the 26th March until check in day the 14th April. Nothing is mentioned about an anniversary or a dog and with each replied email our park policies are attached so guests will have an idea about our park before they arrive. Also this guest has been here before.
I am the staff member that spoke to you after I received a complaint from another guest, of there being a dog in the park. This guests grandson has a dog phobia and had to stay in the caravan. The option of placing the dog in a vehicle in the car park over night was given. I was then verbally abused by a man in your group which other guests heard. This man said they would all be leaving, I then left the situation so things could calm down. Someone from your group came to the office and together we tried to work out a solution for the dog and the people in your group that had been drinking so they did not have to drive. Unfortunately some of your group did not want to work out a solution and made the decision to leave anyway.

Thank you for you feedback. There is Kiwi Taste Cafe located right next door at Miranda Hot Springs that serves meals and takeaways and less than 10 minutes drive north is Kaiaua Fisheries that has famous fish and chips takeaway and restaurants. We are located out in the country side, 6 km from state highway 25 at Waitakaruru and 20 minutes west of Thames on the Seabird coast and Pacific Coast Highway. Approximately 1 hour from Auckland Airport.

One of the pretiest sites we used over the two weeks of campervanning in the North Island. All good clean facilities and helpful staff too. The hot pool is a lovely feature as well. If you are touring the Coromandal forget Thames sites (as nice as they might be) and make this park a definite stop off.

Lovely place . We stayed in a motel apartment with @ children. It was clean and tidy, had everything we needed and stuff we didn't expect like laundry facilities in the bathroom,(hidden away nicely). The park is very child friendly with a beautiful pool. I can't rate this place highly enough.

Fantastic place to stay in our motorhome the night we arrived from the airport. Very helpful staff, we didn't get there until 9:15pm and it was no problem at all. We ended up spending the next 45 minutes in the thermal pools which was a fantastic way to relax after a long flight and 1 hour drive.

Very clean amenities and thermal pools which was fantastic. They also helped us plan our trip and gave us some fantastic advice on places to stay which was incredibly helpful. Very well laid out. Loved it. Thanks!

What a great camping, the best we have been to in NZ so far! It is a lovely camping, quite big, but very personal. The people are very nice and welcoming, the pool is fantastic and the whole environment is just great. The showers are very nice and clean, kitchen was also great. Everything was provided, very nice. Also using the washing machine and dryer was very cheap (NZD2 each). I would highly recommend this camping. It was a pity we could not stay longer.

The Park was an ideal venue for the 2011 BSA National Rally with the wide range of accommodation, the hot pool, the shop and the very friendly and helpful staff. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for the staff whether sorting out photocopying, taking tsunami precautions or soothing ruffled feathers. A great place for a Rally!

Have had two camping holidays so far this year. Have also stayed in their cabins. I cannot recommend this holiday park highly enough. It is clean, quiet, has everything you need whatever age you are. You just go there and enjoy the beautiful pool or the tennis courts, playground, trampoline and more. It is a great holiday experience and very relaxing. They have quiet adult times for the pool which is great too.
