Beautiful spot with amazing beach front camping.
This is the 3rd year in a row we’ve stayed.
Great camp shop for milk bread and supplies you’ve forgotten. Staff are lovely especially the cleaning ladies that have their work cut out for them ! This is NZ camping how it used to be ..
Adequate very clean showers toilets and camp kitchen. Please keep this stunning spot as it is quintessential NZ camping.
This place is heaven on earth. Probably the most beautiful place I have been to in NZ. However, the camp ground facilities and staff are below standard. Very little help from staff. Had to ask for park map. Was not told about camp activities such as kids movies etc (found out later trough other camper). The bathrooms, toilets and kitchen are poorly maintained. Spider webs everywhere and saw a rat in the showers. I was told shower tokens last 3-4 minutes- that is not the case. Not only the warm water turned off-the WATER turn off. So if you have any left shampoo in your hair you better have more tokens on you, because you cannot even wash it off with cold water. This is the only camp ground I have been to that turns the kitchen and bathrooms lights off!!! If you need to go to the toilet in the middle of the night- good luck finding your way. While I enjoyed the location, this is not a campground I will go back to, unless some major changes are made.
Friendly owner. Good facilities. Washing machine is available. Nice spot but at some days very windy.

This is probably our favourite spot of the trip! It is amazing, staff are super helpful and friendly. Right on the water and a lot of spots available. Only negative was we didn’t buy wine and unfortunately the campground shop didn’t have any hehe
A beautiful place, good facilities, friendly and eager to please staff.Where else can you park right on water with such stunning views and great fishing to top it off
Stunning! Great beach and camp site! (Book a beach front site). Good facilities at the camp, clean and tidy.
One of the best in the upper North Island.

Very beautiful place with helpful owners. Kitchen and showers are simple, but it is enough. If you are biking around Northland you must go to this place!

- Hot shower $1NZ for 3 minutes (we got it for free, I don't know why)

- Direct on the beach --> windy
- Very nice and helpful staff
- Very clean
- For this price, excellent
I would have to agree with Mike Robinson. There are signs everywhere about the water and there is no excuse for not spotting them. The person that complained about the water to the management was not polite to put it mildly, and did so in front of a group of child customers who were waiting to be served. He was lucky there were no adult males within earshot. If the camp was so bad why did he book one more night before leaving? My wife and I have been there several times and have always found the manageress to be very friendly and goes the extra mile to be helpful. When the manageress and her husband took over the camp it was in a less than ideal state of repair and are working hard to improve all the amenities including the water and are doing a good job. We would recommend this camp to everybody without hesitation. The views and fishing are amazing.
There are plenty of signs around regarding the water not being suitable for drinking, so I'm not sure where the angst is coming from in the comments below. I found the management nothing but courteous and friendly. Regardless of everything, this is a beautiful spot and most definitely worth a stop.
Great powered site by the beach, let down by the camp facilities, very old and out dated and non drinking water.
A beautiful location spoilt by dangerously incompetent management.
The water at the camp is not safe to drink and management said nothing to us upon checking in. There were no signs on the taps by the sites and we had filled our caravan with contaminated water before - by pure chance - one of went to the toilet and saw a sign saying 'boil water before drinking'. There was no safe drinking water provided at the camp. Had we not seen this tiny A4 sign, my family would have been horribly ill.
When I asked the owner if that's something she should have said upon check in, she became aggressive and completely denied any responsibility for informing guests that the water was not safe and that if I didn't like it I could go. So we did. As soon as we could find a booking elsewhere we left.
We went to Matauri Bay, which took the situation seriously and both did not have taps on the caravan sites and also provided safe drinking water.
All in all, the service at Tauranga Bay camp was the worst I've experienced in 30+ years of camping all over the world.
It was a long walk to the toilets and kitchen, and some of the kitchen appliances were broken but the sites were nice and flat and you are right on the edge of the ocean. We had to boil drinking water there. The staff were lovely.
Stopped a night here in May. Although the weather was a bit rough it was a nice camp right on the beach. Basic facilities, but would be great in the Summer to get away from it all. Helpful staff.
Great powered beach front site. Clean camp ground with hot showers and clean toilets. Good swimming.
Just north of the Bay of Islands. It is on the beach!! (As near as you can get). Beautiful Bay and warm sea, basic facilities though.
Free hot showers!! :-)
