Lovely and scenic beach campsite. You can place your van where you want across the area. Hot showers $2/4min. No powered sites, no dumping. Only short walk to the fantastic beach. Ideal for visiting Waipu Caves.
Amazing place. Sheltered from the wind but a short walk to the most incredible sand-only beach. Coffee place near the entrance that opens at 9 (on weekends) and does real fruit ice cream! We will definitely be back! Also great for bodyboarding in the waves!
Come here often. Grounds are great. People culture is amazing and the beach is beautiful.
Something a little different, a huge area where you can stop and set up wherever you like. Plenty of clean long drop toilets, fresh water and a minutes walk to the sea across white sands.
Managed by Ray and Cindy, very pleasant hosts. Cost $13 pp a night. We were provided with a rubbish bag and told we could dispose of that and recycled stuff at the exit gate on the way out.
No power but there are hot and cold showers. Very nice.
Amazing. For any traveler, family or couples. Spacious and alot of facilities.
A beautiful location with tidy but basic facilities (it is a DOC campsite, after all). No cooking facilities and only cold showers unless you pay for hot. The hosts were lovely and friendly and let us in even though we arrived 15 minutes past office closing hours (at 8:15pm). It was fairly busy for the tail-end of the high season and I expect it is probably packed over summer. A good stopping point halfway between Auckland and the Far North.
Uretiti is a beautiful place! Arrived just before gates closed at 9pm & staff were more than accommodating & a pleasure to deal with. They even gave us a key for the main gate as we had other family members not arrived yet & still came & made sure we were all ok when they arrived after 1030pm.
The site was packed but still enjoyable! Woke up & went for a walk along the beautiful beach then enjoyed an Awesome swim!
Though toilets were long drops, they were kept clean & always had handwashing refilled. Showers not bad either, they supply hot & cold showers. Only $2 for a 4min hot shower.
Kitchen facilities, they provide a kitchen area to prep. It has island in the middle of the room & benches around it with sink & tap outside to clean dishes.
Taps provided too around the site to wash & clean feet from beach or fill up bottles but wouldn't reccomend drinking from it :)
Great experience & definitely worth the stop!!! Ashamed we couldn't stay longer as we had to head back home but will go back sometime! Thank you
Beautiful campsite near the beach. Very quiet in the beginning of november. At night it is very dark, so bring a torch. A downside was that there were a lot of mosquitos in the toilet facility. $12 per person with a campervan, plus compulsory $2 for a waste bag. Cold shower is free, hot shower an additional $2.
Huge campsite! Direct access to the beach. Simple but clean facilities, friendly warden.
Can‘t imagine the campground to be fully booked somewhen...
Recommended for a stop on the way north.
Right next to the beach, friendly owners, well maintained... Great place!

We have stayed at Uretiti many time but never at Easter weekend, Astounded at how full the camp was and how friendly the staff were. Toilets and showers were serviced 2 -3 times per day and there were no problems in the camp. Another great stay.
Awesome campsite, right next to the beach. Came on 1 Jan and there were quite a few empty spaces already. No power, but there are hot showers, and very clean long drop toilets. Very friendly reception. It was very quiet at night even though it was quite busy. I think there is a basic kitchen but we didn't use it.
The beach is lovely though unpatrolled and may not be safe for swimming at times.
Would come back.
Great campground, great beach. Nice you can pick your own spot on the very spacious site. Besides the beach good location for day trips to Waipu caves and Waipu beach coastal walk. Although it is a non powered site the hosts were kind enough to let us charge our electric vehicle.
Easy access just off of Highway One. Friendly family running the place. Large area with lots of sites to choose from, some of them quite boggy however so may need to be careful in the rain. Just a minute walk to the beach. Numerous long drop toilet blocks with cold showers, hot ones available for $2. Would stay again.

Beautiful location. Beach nearby. Very spacious. Only real downside is the noise from the road if you're at the road side. Stick to the beach side. What I find strange is that this is hardly mentioned in the reviews. We have been traveling around New Zealand for 3 weeks now and found the reviews in Rankers very useful and trustworthy, but this time a little more info about the road would be helpful.

Just great! The $2 garbage bag is for the waste disposal service, I wish some people would use the bag. The area is spotless, don't get the wrong idea but: the fields are covered in beer bottle caps and cigarette filters. As a good camper I don't "just complain" and did my fair share of picking them up.
You can pick your own spot. For the best spot find the one without the bottle caps! 😀
Perfect place to stay! Lovely lady. Near the beach. Shower and toilet facilities are clean, but a bit old. We paid $28 for two persons without power.
Great campsite. $2 hot water showers have just been added!
Excellent campsite to stay a couple of nights and recover from jet lag. Quiet whilst we were there loads of space. Minimal traffic noise if you camp by the beach. Beautiful long beach. Glow worm caves and museum near by excellent.
Lovely spot, we stayed in April so wasn't very busy, lots of space and a beautiful beach. The showers are cold but we didn't mind as it was lovely weather, long drops aren't my favourite but the facilities were kept clean and looked almost new. For $10 I really can't slate the place. Would go back.
Great spot by a nice beach, good having the cold showers after you have had a swim, didn't mind the $20 camp fee but had no choice about having to pay $2 for a rubbish bag that we didn't use!
We loved this campsite. It's very big but they offer of a lot of spaces with privacy. The facilities are very nice and clean. We camped near the dunes and the beach. The beach is gorgeous and quiet, although it was high season.
Wonderful spot right next to the beach. Free cold showers (not that cold, quiet nice in summer) and water spigots around. $22 for two people in a campervan. Being able to park wherever lets you get nice spots.
Most beautiful beach in New Zealand! Wide and lonely white sandy beach. We paid $22 for the two of us for an unpowered site. Basic toilets, no showers, no WIFI, very close to nature. If you are looking for a silent place, choose this campsite.

We stayed for one night at this beautiful campsite located about half way between Auckland and the Bay of Islands. We would definitely recommend this place to friends. Wonderful beach and clean basic facilities together with a friendly host. A peaceful place with good surf.
Really nice camping site directly behind the sand dunes. No powered sites, nice toilets, cold showers and rubbish disposal. Very friendly hosts. We paid $11 per person. We would definitely go again.
Lots of space and not marked out sites so you can choose your own spot, which we liked. Very friendly owner and reasonably priced. Easy beach access for a walk in the evening. Basic facilities in good working order.
We stopped here for one night only with two vans. the people were nice and the camping ground is stunning! It was empty and we could park wherever we wanted to. The beach was a one minute walk maybe and the grounds are clean and green. The facilities are also very clean for a camping ground the cold open air showers we didn't use because we were freezing. The price is absolutely ok!
Access savings worth hundreds of $$ on Top Ranked NZ Accommodation and Activities for just $1 per day.
Near to the wonderful beach. Cold showers without a roof. Very friendly owners. $11 per person and rubbish disposal.
Watched the sunset here and it was stunning, the location of this campsite is perfect.
Very nice owners and peaceful atmosphere. Good to stay there a couple of days.
Very good value for your money. Directly at the beach. No assigned campgrounds, so you can park anywhere what was great when we were there, because it was not so busy and therefore, we had plenty of space. Clean privy, cold showers and sinks available.
Each campground is different, and this one was great in it's own way: no assigned camp spots but instead you just drive around and find a place to park your van or put up your tent. It's a quick walk to the beach, where there is excellent beach combing and exploring to be had. We booked in advance just to be safe, but it wasn't necessary at this time of year after all.
We did not use the cold showers, but found the drop toilets to be conveniently located and they also provided sinks outside the toilets for brushing teeth and cleaning up.
The camp host was very helpful in directing us to Ruakaka for some take-away fish and chips that the locals all buy, and then up to Waipu Caves, a 12 km drive to glow worm caves. You need to bring your own lights and sense of adventure for this one!
The camping ground is really easy to reach because it's next to the motorway.
Showers and toilets were clean. Apart from this it's just a short way to the beach, just pass the sand dunes and you're there. Especially for the price of $10 per person a good choice for camping in the area of Whangarei :)
Nice little campground on the beach. Basic but clean facilities - only cold showers without a roof. Gate will be closed at 9pm, so be sure to arrive in time. 10 $ pp plus 2$ for rubbish.
Kind staff, great location next to an amazing beach :)
nice, hugh campground, very friendly staff. big beach, perfect for a short stop.
Nice beach, kind staff.
Nice camping ground, kind staff, good service, beautiful beach. Just perfect!
Cute campsite next to the beach.
Friendly people, good and clean facilities, but $2 to come in is not good.
$10 per person.
Really well equipped place with nice cabins one could use for free, your choice what to donate. Really friendly host!
Cleanest toilets I came across while camping in NZ, bar none. Plus, they had taps all over the camping ground with fresh water, which isn't as common as you'd think. There wasn't a ton of privacy, but I was there when it was fairly busy. The beach is definitely worth spending some time at, and it's only a five minute walk from the site. Highest recommendation.
Nice DOC site with toilets, cold showers, direct beach access and not too windy. $12 per night per person.
Nice location close to the beach, lots of space, cold showers, long drop toilet, well maintained.
$10pp + $2 for only staying 1 night. We didn't pay for many sites, but this was the worst $-value. Though decent spot with very nice longdrop toilets and sinks, no privacy (few trees, lots of open ground), cold showers (not even option for hot), and very busy made this one of our least favourite sites. Great for large campervans, and beachside views would be nicer than our spot too. Taps to refill water containers. Easy access from highway. Friendly staff.
Beautiful place on the beach. Had a great time.
Nice camping spot right behind the sand dunes. It is situated on a nice beach with beautiful views. A little expensive at $22 couple/night. However the toilets/showers (cold only) were clean. I liked how the sites were nicely spaced apart from your neighbours.
Awesome place!!! Beautiful safe beach...
We were put off, because it is so close to stat highway 1 and Auckland, but turned out to be one of our favorite camp grounds. Awesome DOC staff, and caught plenty of Snapper surf casting off the beach.
Beach is long and beautiful. Camp right behind the sand dunes. Next to the awesome Waipu Caves to see a glow worm galaxy!
Will and Taylor
Just off the motorway so the campsite can be rather noisy, due to traffic.
Probably the best maintained DOC site we’ve been to with several rangers living on-site who were very friendly. Short drive to the extremely cool Waipu caves. Right on a beautiful beach. Nude beach around so look out for the sights :)
Great location just behind the sand dunes, peaceful.
Easy access, lovely campground with lots of space, a huge beach behind the dunes.
Nice beach, clean, lots of space, wonderful location.
A fantastic place! The sites behind the dunes and the beautiful coast and super beach fitted together 100%. We hope it lasts like this.
+ Beachfront location, spacious campsite, late checkout.
- Only cold showers.
Elke & Charlotte
Very nice location! Best we have had until now! No hot showers.
The camping is huge, overcrowded and noisy. There is no normal cozy spots to stay. However the beach is amazing.
Long beach and good camp.
Tidy, crowded! Amazing Beach!!
Great campsites, toilets are very clean and the beach is just awesome! Nice, friendly, helpful hosts! Personal although quite a big campground!
Easy to find, behind the sanddunes, very calm und very friendly staff.
Nice camping ground close to the beach. Friendly staff and nice beach.
Very nicely situated, very clean, a lot of space, showers and toilets are very good and the camp has a private atmosphere.
Sand Dunes, so nice!
Cheap, spacious and a very nice beach. Oh, and cold showers :-(
This DOC campsite is basic, as expected but in a beach location behind the dunes of a golden beach. Saw dolphins from the beach! Cold showers are refreshing but time saving!

Simple, clean. value for money, wonderful landscape.
DOC campsite. Right on a beautiful beach.
