Bad customer service.
They give around 4 weeks notice before cancelling the trip.
Did not want to give a refund before then.
Do not book with them

I booked Haka Tours because I had read the reviews so I had positive expectations that I have will have an amazing experience. Unfortunately, the opposite happened.

The problem was the tour guide. She was a very rigid person and very arrogant. She used to be nice occasionally but deep down inside her behavior was worst.

She was always in a rush. When I asked her why we are always in a rush, she put the blame on me saying that I am always late. Instead of behaving and ensuring customer satisfaction, she had an attitude problem and behaved in the worst manner.

Also, I observed that she did not treat all ethnicities equally in the tour group. She treated white above all other ethnicities. Now, this was shocking to experience.

I wish and I genuinely wish we had a better tour guide.... Haka Tours is a big NO from me!

We are a family of 5 from Manila, Philippines. Jenny Power expertly arranged our private tour of the North and South Islands within the budget we set and within our time frame. Rhys, our engaging and amiable guide, while new with Haka, made our tour seamless, including transitions with 3rd party operators. Sceneries, people and culture taken as whole, this is our best family vacation.

HAKA is indeed true to its ranking. We will definitely recommend it to our friends.

Most Amazing Experience With Haka Tours!!

I travelled in October with my spouse with Haka Tours and it was the best decision we made! New Zealand is a highly picturesque and unique destination that can be enjoyed by people of all age groups. Haka Tours not only know the place very well, but also know how to get the tourists the best in the easiest place. It is very important to have a good, resourceful and friendly tour organizer when travelling to a new country. Haka Tours does exactly that! They are very approachable - I remember emailing and calling them from India multiple time with queries - big and small - and they resolved my doubts very diligently every time.
Andy, our guide, is a very friendly guy. He made us very comfortable and would ensure that we enjoyed the best while he would do all the running around in the background (when we were asleep)! We would get our passes ready in our hand and wouldn't need to go through the hassle or wasting time. In fact, it was also very easy to modify the tour while we were already there - we added couple of activities (at discounted prices).

The Hostels were always kept warm and clean and Haka Tours ensured that our stay in places other than the hostels were comfortable too.

We did the South Island tour with them and our tour was organized in a way that nothing gets missed out and we get the best!

Thanks Andy & Haka Tours!! We have the most cherishing fondest memories of the tour that we will always treasure..

What an amazing experience with Haka! I did the Bay of Islands tour earlier this month and had an absolutely phenomenal time. I saw Orcas for the first time, swam with the dolphins, ate fish and chips on one of NZ most gorgeous beaches while the sun set, chatting with new friends from all over the globe.

The accommodation at the Haka Lodge in Paihia is gorgeous. I had a private room which has a huge and comfortable super king bed with views of the sea. It even had Apple TV and a private bathroom. The view from the common room was absolutely stunning. I would say one of the best views in all of Paihia! It was above some amazing food places and 1 minute to the wharf for all the activities like Barefoot Sailing (highly recommend the sunset cruise!).

Thank you Haka tours for an AMAZING experience. As a NZ citizen I would not usually do a tour in my own country, but I learned so much, experienced more things than I would have done on my own and met some pretty amazing people.

Thank you so much for showing me my own backyard! I wish I could give you more than 10 stars.

Ultimate Heli trip with HAKA Tours
This trip has definitely been one of the best ski experiences of my life. I have skied all over the world, but I have been blown away by the beauty & the terrain in New Zealand. Haka tours made a great job putting this tour together and especially thanks to their guide Chris, this tour was worth every penny. Heli skiing can be tricky with changing weather, so you have to be prepared to be flexible about the schedule, anticipate and be a great coordinator, which was a task that Chris handled 100%. We were a group of 4 plus Chris and immediately became friends having fun and together making this and unforgettable trip. Thanks again Haka & Chris!

Could not recommend Haka tours enough!
I recently did the 7 Day North Island adventure, with the extension down to Christchurch. I had such a brilliant time and would rate it as one of my top holidays. Even before the tour began, the support and information given by the Haka staff was great. Our guide Andy was fantastic, very knowledgeable and accommodating, doing what he could to ensure everyone got the most out of their trip.
I was able to travel with an incredible group of people, the small size is perfect, making it easy to get to know people and develop friendships quickly.
My only regret is that I didn’t do a longer trip! Would definitely travel with Haka again.

Incredible experience! that's how I describe my New Zealand tour with Haka. Under stewardship of Sam Griffiths, 21 days on tour were like a cakewalk. Everything was well planned, organized and managed along with good backup support especially from Tianna Pittenger. Never faced any difficulty. The best part was the add-on activities. For a newcomer to New Zealand it is really difficult to choose a good activity operator and here Haka tour played their responsibility very well. Not only they choose the best and safety conscious operators, they also provided pick-up and drop from operators' sites. Tour was very reasonably priced and nothing was hidden. Real Kiwi adventure tour .. cool, honest and with a personal touch . Thank you Haka for making my journey a really memorable one! :) :) Keep it up!

Where do I start? It was the most incredible trip! I did a 7 day South Island tour. I am already looking at booking another tour with Haka Tours and it has only been a few weeks since I returned. If all the guides are as amazing as Katie then count me in again! When activities were cancelled due to weather conditions she went out of her way to find similar activities for us at other times on the trip .Her enthusiasm and knowledge was incredible. The nicest person you will ever meet!!!!! I was with a group of 15 fellow travelers who were travelling alone. We all got on so well! When I think of all the things I achieved and saw on my tour I think of all those other people from all over the world with the greatest of fondness.
Thank you Haka Tours for the best experience ever!!!!!!! See you again soon.

Amplified NZ Tour
We had an incredible time on our tour and would highly recommend it, and Haka, to anyone. There was a good mix of ages so we didn't feel like the old people among a group of university students, and plenty of opportunity to pick up extra activities and tailor the experience to suit our own preferences. Our guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and really did her utmost to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves. The smaller group size was ideal, and the balance between travelling and activities was just right for us.

7 day South Island Tour.
Fantastic tour. Lovely people on our tour and our super friendly, helpful tour guide Ollie was great. The tour is really fast pace. So keep in mind you need to be flexable to get the most out of it. Days are very busy if you include lots of activities and extra curricular things. Flight to Milford sound is a must! Don’t bus as you loose a whole day in Queenstown. This tour gives you a really good feel for the South Island but you will leave certain places thinking you could have spent longer. Accomodation was good. Only change I would make is 2 nights in Wanaka and 1 night in Frans Joseph. I really enjoyed my experience. Thanks to Haka Tours and to our guide Ollie for an awesome job and for the nice friendly people on my tour made for an enjoyable experience. Recommend and would travel again.

It was the experience of a lifetime and I’m so happy I chose to go with Haka Tours. I got to see many cool places I would have never known about without the tour and I met some really great lifelong friends! The small tour size allows you to really get to know people. I was in New Zealand for a total of 2 months and my favourite part of my trip was my 1 week Haka Tour! All of the hostels were sufficiently nice although it really doesn’t matter considering you spend most of your time having fun with all of the activities. I recently returned from an amazing Haka tour, led by Andy (Baby Jesus). It exceeded my expectations and I was so glad I chose to do a tour, rather than renting a car and exploring New Zealand on my own. You can't underestimate the knowledge of a local guide. We made it to all the major stops that everyone aims to see and went to so many special spots that I never would have discovered on my own. Haka is different to the other tour groups because of the small size and the flexibility to slightly alter the tour to suit the needs of the people in the group. Andy is awesome and did an amazing job showcasing the natural beauty and unique culture of NZ. He made sure our group truly felt like a little family. I've already recommended Haka to several of my friends and family and can't wait to visit New Zealand again. Thanks, Andy!

If anyone is on the fence, just book with Haka. You won't regret it!

The group we were part of were friendly and everyone was relaxed (they all loved the riding too). The trails were awesome and one of the best bits for me was that my wife (who couldn't ride as she's was 5 months pregnant) was able to go bushwalking most days and so also really enjoyed herself too. The decision to travel for 16 days on a Haka Adventure tour was one of the best decisions I have made for myself. As a solo traveller, the small group size allowed me to instantly make friends and as these friendships developed we were able to enjoy the beauty of New Zealand and new experiences together. It was like becoming the member of a new family. The bus trip felt like a road trip with best friends - I have only the best memories of my tour. What an amazing tour! I did the 12 day Adrenaline Junkie Tour in July 2016 and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. New Zealand turned on the awesome-ness with breath-taking scenery and wildlife and a wide range of weather - it was my time to tick off those things on the bucket list and I certainly did that - but the highlight of my trip was my skydive from 16,500 feet at Abel Tasman Skydiving - it literally took my breath away!!! Just completed the seven day south island tour. Had an absolutely awesome time seeing some of the most epic scenery in the world. Andy our tour guide made sure everything ran smoothly. Not an easy job when you have a group of people doing different activities. All activities were well organised and proceeded without any problems. I highly recommend an extra day in Christchurch before and after the tour. I think it would have felt a little rushed otherwise. NZ south island is a photographers dream. I wish I had taken a better camera than my samsung galaxy S6. Lol. We did some long sections in the bus, but Andy made sure we stopped often enough to stretch our legs. We had a mixture of age groups on the tour and everyone had a great time. I think being a small group enables you to do things that large groups would not be able to do. This was the first guided tour I have done and I highly recommend it. I will definitely do more. Having everything organised for you and not having to do the driving or navigating allows you to relax and enjoy the scenery.

I know this review is way overdue. I did the 7 day South Island Tour back in December 2015 with Willow and it was one of the most amazing time and experience of my life!!! The tour was very well organized, but it didn't feel like we were rushing to do activities. Willow as a guide is a perfect combo of laid back, fun, and someone you can tell that truly loves what they do. The very first day when I got into Haka Lodge in Christchurch, the staff was welcoming and you feel at ease right away. That first day I felt a bit nervous as I've never done a group tour before, but the anxiety all went away when Willow made sure that we were all acquainted, and our activities were discussed to us again. During the 7 days I spent with my tour group, we had lots of fun, and get to cheer each other as we did different things and our time together doing activities, sightseeing, eating, all made this experience very memorable. There were many secret stops as well that was very Kiwi, and I really enjoyed that. And, I was able to cross off many things on my bucket list because of this tour, and I am very glad that I chose Haka! If i ever get the chance to go back to NZ, I will not hesitate to book with Haka again.

I recently did the 16 day tour of the New Zealand . I normally avoid group tours , but after reading Haka Tours trip information ( small groups , flexible itinery , add the options that suite you , age friendly , lots of free time to do your own thing ) I took the plunge and booked . It was the best decision I could have made . From the moment the other 15 smiling strangers started gathering for the pre tour talk I could feel that this was going to be a good experience and welcoming us all was our brilliant tour guide Grant K ( G Dog ) He had a huge smile on his face , and instantly had us all relaxed and feeling good about the adventure we were all about to do together . Grant has travelled the world , done some amazing things and it was his infectious , forever happy personality , his passion for New Zealand , its environment and wild life , his jokes , his amazing knowledge of this incredible country that had us bursting to hit the road . Its easy to get bored on a bus , but not with Grant . Plenty of interesting out of the way sightseeing stops , great information regarding places to eat and activity's to do along the way ( he talked me into a tandem skydive "bloody brilliant " ) all helped make a group of people who started out as strangers but who had16 days later become a close group of new friends . Thankyou to my travel buddies , and a big big thankyou to G Dog and Haka Tours . Friends and experiences that I will never forget

My husband and I were unsure of what to expect when going on an Adventure Tour and staying in Hostels. We booked a private room for each night of the tour and found all of our rooms were clean and comfortable. Most even had their own private bathroom. The smaller bus was wonderful as it meant that we could get to know our fellow travellers much better. We shared many meals together on our 16 day trip that provided us with great food, drink, and company. Even our younger travellers joined in on the cooking! This very tight group extended to our Tour Guide/ Driver Jace Collins who was absolutely the best! Jace started the community supper idea, he was always willing to enhance our tour by finding extra activities for us (we asked to go fishing and he found us a boat, we asked to go golfing and he found us a course). Jace was also a Kiwi who was very proud of his country and did his very best to show it off in all its glory. This was once of the best trips we have ever been on. After arriving in NZ, I was recommended by a Christchurch local to try a guided tour of the South Island. I had never tried a guided tour before, but I selected Haka Tours Wild West primarily from reading earlier reviews, as it went through the areas I had wanted to see, and since I thought the smaller group size (we were around 15) versus other guided tours would allow a more personal experience.

Willow and Mike were our guides for the tour, and both did a great job showing us around, as well as organising everything. Both were very knowledgeable on the areas visited, would always accommodate any last minute requests, and created a relaxed and very pleasant atmosphere in our group. Overall, I saw beautiful scenery (Lake Wanaka was my personal favourite), had the chance to try out many different adventure sports, and met many interesting people from all over the world.

A fantastic experience, and one that is highly recommended.

We started our adevnture in Christchurch were we had a traditional Maori greeting with dinner. We then traveled to Canterbury- Murchison area where I got sick from a store bought pizza. The only complaint I had all trip by the way. Next we hit Punakaiki, Fox Glaciers and Queenstown. I rode on a Luge which was extremely fun and enjoyed the beautiful scenic beaches. Then we visited Dunedin, the Otago River and lastly Lake Tekapo then back to Christchurch to leave. Overall I had a great expierence and would like to plan to come back in the near future. It is a very chill and calm place were one is able to relax and refocus. Hands down the best trip I've gone on. Si was GREAT too very cool and knowlegdable. He took the trip from an 8 to a 12 really good guy. HAKA TOURS, everybodies thumbs are UP!!!!!!!!!".

16 Day Amplified tour with Haka tours was my first ever vacation trip with friends, and honestly I have high expectations from my future vacation trips. Our host/tour guide Willow made our 2 weeks stay very memorable and comfortable. The accommodations organised were comfortable and some with additional perks like Jacuzzi and hot pools, with no extra charge. The surprise stops were just the best! Each very different from the other and each very special.
Staff at the office like Holly, made the bookings easy and were very efficient with answering our queries.
The whole experience was wonderful. Saw great places and experiend many adventurous activities with great company. Many memorable moments with the Haka family. Will highly recommend Haka tours.

Had an absolutely fantastic tour of South Island over seven days with Willow as our tour guide. Nothing was too much trouble to organise, even last minute requests, and the scenery was amazing. The places we stayed, including the Haka Lodges, were very comfortable and always within an easy walk of town and/or activities. Throughly recommend booking up and experiencing it yourself!

Did the 16 day Amplified tour starting in Christchurch finishing in Auckland as a solo traveller. We had Willow as our tour guide and she was brilliant all the way through, proud as punch to show of her amazing country to everybody, nothing phased her or was too much trouble, and she was always about to assist working endlessly. Every day was a different experience, with mind blowing scenery, and plenty of activities to chose to do whither you were a teeny bopper or a 75 year old ( Katsuko). All daily pit stops and evening accommodation were excellent. It took me a week to stop waking up and thinking I was still on the tour it was that good.. New Zealand is amazing, Haka tours, Willow and the rest of their staff do it proud, I'll be back as I can't stop thinking about it. Cheers Haka Haka Boom.

cannot find the superlatives to describe how great Willow is...so booking North Island tour with her for next year.

Was very impressed with the Haka Lodges my husband and I stayed in. We had private rooms but would have happily stayed in dorms. The kitchens and living rooms were wonderful.

Hollie in the office saved the day when server updated as paying and also brilliant when I changed activities after paying.

The wife and I did the South Lick tour in January, and absolutely loved every second. Our tour guide/driver and now friend Willow shared with our small group her love and experiences of this most beautiful country. The drives were spectacular, the accomodations excellent, the booked activities great fun, and the sense of family created by Willow among our small group of 14 was brilliant. We can't wait to do another Haka tour of the North island in early 2017, and hope to experience as much fun, make similar friendships, and of course have Willow again looking after us. Do yourself a favour Aussies, don't go to Europe, the States or Bali, go to NZ....it's cheap, close, extraordinarily safe, and absolutely beautiful, and let Haka tours show you their NZ, you'll love it!!!!

There are lots of activities to suit any preference and the views were just breathtaking. The lodges we stayed at were hit and miss, Queenstown being the best with Christchurch a close second. By far the most fun was our tour guide, G Dog! He was great at recommending activities, sharing the history and his personal experiences, selecting great places to eat and most of all, he was hilarious! I enjoyed the smaller, personal number of people on tour (16), and met many nice people from around the world. I highly recommend this tour!

My wife and I, two university professors, and 17 students from our university used Haka Tours for a custom designed two week course/tour of the South island in Dec/Jan 2015/16. Our objective was to blend study on the effects of farming on water quality, instruction on the history and culture of NZ, with a huge measure of recreation and fun. And thanks to Haka Tours, especially the incredibly competent/responsive Robyn who helped organize the trip administratively and Si, the ever so personable, patient, skilled and knowledgeable driver/guide we lucked into having, the trip/course was huge success. We had lectures by leading experts at universities, were hosted by several farmers and shown around their farms, and learned about Maori culture. We wine tasted at a vineyard and were treated to a banquet of excellent breads, cheeses and finger food. We visited a cherry orchard and picked kilos of cherries. We rafted, kayaked, hiked, biked and visited Milford Sound on our free days. We each spent a half day working with a local artist carving traditional Maori pendants from bone. We walked endlessly long beautiful beaches on both the east and west coasts. And as if that wasn't enough, it was as if Si had tethered the sun to our bus and pulled it along overhead as he negotiated the roads and gorgeous scenery from Christchurch over the pass to Greymouth, from Punakaiki to Murchison up the Buller River valley, then down to Fox and over the pass to Queenstown, through central Otago to Dunedin, through MacKenzie country to Tekapo and then back to Christchurch. It couldn't have been a better experience. And all thanks to the excellent work of Haka Tours. We hope to do a repeat of this course/tour with them again next year.

I recently did South Island Lick tour with Haka Tours. It’s my second tour with Haka Tours . People repeat things for a reason and I chose Haka for the second time for all the good reasons, from what I saw and experienced in my first tour. Haka Tour's guided small group tours with pre booked accommodation and activities lets you have an awesome time in NZ with one small international family which is formed from the very moment you meet the group. At the end of the tour, you leave NZ with a heavy heart and long lasting friendships. My recent tour was guided by Willow, our super star tour manager. She deserves a massive applause for taking us under her wings and helping us have the best of everything we did in NZ. She was just meant to be our tour guide but ended up being a great driver, carer, friend, sister, leader, and a big mama to all of us regardless of our age, colour, nationality etc. She is the total package who made a big difference.
Highly recommend Haka Tours for anyone who wants to see NZ with zero stress. I left NZ this time already planning round number 3. I can’t see this amazing country enough and it will be Haka Tours next time too and would love to have Willlow as my tour manager again. 10/10.

I went on the 24 day epic adventure tour with Tom as my guide, and it was the one of the best decisions I've ever made. It was 24 action packed days traveling around all of New Zealand with a great group of people. Tom was very knowledgeable about the country and its history, and made it very entertaining for us to listen to. At almost every stop you get the chance to choose between different activities, including dolphin swimming in Kaikoura (recommended!), sky diving, jumping off a lot of different things, hiking, jet boating, zorbing - the list never ends. I would especially recommend Haka if you're traveling by yourself, since you will meet so many fun and interesting people on the tour. As a student abroad I had a wonderful trip around NZ with HAKA Tours! I saw most of what NZ has to offer in a way I couldn't have done myself. My tour guide was amazing and I didn't need to worry about anything. HAKA Tours offers a guided trip with a small group, but it's not just a standard guided trip. It shows you NZ in a way you will never forget and you are able to select the activities you wish to do. The fun part of such a small group is that people sometimes encouraged each other to do adventurous stuff they were still a bit uncertain of (I never thought I would do a skydive, but it was the best experience of my trip). You cannot believe the effect a tour with HAKA has on your life unless you've experienced one yourself.

I have to say the ease of booking and the support of Haka staff was so good that they answered hundreds of our questions and helped us plan our trip in the best way possible, booking the tour through the website was also very easy, convenient and structured. After that we booked our activities, since there are a lot activities to choose from, again the Haka staff (Holly and Nicola ) were super helpful in planning our trip in a way that we were able to do most of the activities without rushing between places or getting tired. After all of that our tour started and I have to say the 16 days we traveled with the Haka Tours group was easily the best time ever for us, the group headed by our travel guide Willow was so awesome that we were like one small family, there was so much fun. Initially we were concerned that if we take a conducted tour will we miss out on something or will they stop in between destinations etc etc. But everything was so good and better. Willow was extremely helpful in helping us plan and manage time and also when we had one of the activities cancelled (bad weather), she immediately gave us some other good options and we did those and they were simply amazing. In fact she also stopped at some surprise stops, made us kiwi burgers on a barbecue, and gave us an insight into the Kiwi life and culture. The best part of our tour immediately became the tour group. I suggest Haka Tours to anyone who is looking for an amazing time, it's a great road trip, you can see a lot of places, do activities and you can find people from around the world who could easily become really good friends and travel companions. Great job Haka Tours and special thanks to WiIllow (a.k.a Karlee Davis) again, for taking care of us like your family and showing us the amazing New Zealand in the best way possible :)

Coming over from Australia I must admit I hugely underestimated NZ. Usually when I plan a trip it has to be as far away from my hometown as possible (Europe/America) Going to NZ was one of the best decisions yet, it is such a beautiful country! I chose to do the 7 day South Island with Haka Tours and it was an incredible experience! If you are an adrenaline junkie the South Island Tour has so much to offer! I ended up doing the beginners surf lesson, Nevis Bungy, Shotover Jet Boat, Milford Sound, Franz Josef Glacier explorer hike and much much more. It actually felt like a lot longer than a weeks trip! We also had a couple of people on our tour that weren't into 'jumping of things' and they had a fantastic trip too. Our guide (Grant) was fantastic, there's nothing better than a guide that knows what he's talking about, and takes you off the beaten track! Whichever Haka Tour you choose & whichever guide you get I don't for one second doubt you will regret it! I made awesome friends, stepped out of my comfort zone & am now seriously contemplating moving over to NZ :) Cheers Haka Tours, Grant & travel buddies, what an epic adventure!! xx

He always cared for us, and made sure we had something looking forward to everyday. There was a lot of activities such as Bungy Jump, Mountain Biking, Canyoning Swing, Kayaking and what else New Zealand can offer. What made it more awesome was Jason joined in as well, making it more relaxed, also when we requested activities such as gokart. He was not our Guide he was our friend who we had fun and competed against. Even under unfortunate circumstances involving some stolen stuff Jason was the best, reporting to the police right away not even question if it was stolen, and he stayed the entire night until it was sorted with the insurance. Thumbs Up!!

My wife and I (senior citizens) absolutely loved our 24 day Epic Tour with our Tour Director Tom. We are active and fit, and although we didn't move as quickly as some of our younger tour mates, we partook in many walks on both islands, and in specific optional activities such as black water (glow-worm caves) tubing, kayaking, and for myself, sky diving. Tom was clear in the options available to all, and made us feel comfortable with our choice of activities. The small group (max 16 participants), and Tom's flexibility in accommodating the group's and individual's preferences made it a fantastic holiday for us. Our fellow travellers from various lands offered us a unique group experience - tastes, preferences and aptitudes differed but Tom kept us entertained, and ensured we were active participants, and "happy campers".
Hats off to Haka Tours, and to Tom, for making this an unforgettable tour.

This was hands down was the trip of a lifetime! Haka tours is one of the best tour companies that I have travelled with. The booking and selection process was simple and efficient. I arrived half way through the 24 day tour (for my 12 day south island tour) and was given a warm welcome by Tom our guide to the rest of the group. Tom has the best passion and personality for a job that he clearly loves. Tom and the rest of Haka tours was very organized and made the tour stress free and as enjoyable as possible. Tom's knowledge of each town is astonishing. He knows anything from the history of each town (and stops along the way) to the best place to get eat and best activities for a given individual. He is able to select activities for any budget (it doesn't matter if you are a young backpacker or an established professional looking for an adventure). Either way you will have a great time. Tom took us off the beaten path on several occasions to see the real New Zealand instead of a bunch of tourist traps. I highly recommend a trip with Haka tours and Tom as the guide. Where to begin? Having never been to New Zealand before it was always going to be a special trip, the fact it was our honeymoon just made it even more so... And long story short, Haka Tours MADE our honeymoon, simple as.

We did the 16 day Amplified tour, which covered both islands, with a few extra activities booked before. However we could add/change things on the go, which was great as sometimes weather caused cancellations so we had `credit` to spend on other things. Our guide (Hygi) was a local who knew the ins/outs of the country and showed us things that big companies couldn't. This was no hop on/off tour, we were all in this together from day 1 until the end, and beyond!! We have made lifelong friends from this tour, and we WILL be back.

The accommodation was in YHA or lodges, and whilst basic, was clean, functional and suits the purpose of just being somewhere to sleep after each day's activities. We'd upgraded to private accommodation, well it was our honeymoon after all, and this usually meant a private double room/ensuite etc.

Each day we'd either be picked up or taken as a group on the bus (Veronica - they all have names) to the activities, where we egged on/supported each other to do bungy jumps, zorbing, canyon swings etc. Whilst travelling between towns we had snippets of history and info given en-route, we were taken to secret places, visited hot pools, natural springs, hot pools, seal pools, erm, hot pools (we noticed a pattern with our guide). You don't get that with the commercial hop on/off coaches that dash up and down the country. By the end of the tour we had become so close as a group that we simply didn't want to leave. We will always remember this tour for rest of our lives.

Thanks Hygi, thanks Haka Tours.

Shame we are limited to 2000 characters for reviews as I could write a novel on how amazing this tour was. This is the very abridged version ;)

We took a seven day South Island tour with Hygi and Willow as our guides. The tour bus was comfortable with frequent stops. It was a great way to see lots of spectacular scenery while having guides with immense knowledge of the land, culture, activities, etc. Our group was fairly small - eight travellers who varied in age from early twenties to late fifties (us). If you are an active traveller, this is a great tour. You have the opportunity to build in as many activities as you want to do. Our tour guides were adept at making sure everyone was where they needed to be, which was important since we weren't all doing the same activities. The companies Haka works with to provide these activities are top notch. The accomodations in the hostels were all basic (as expected). We paid to upgrade to private rooms and it was worth the extra cost to us. Haka also developed a self-guided driving tour of the North Island that took us to some great places and through more amazing scenery. The only complaint I have about this trip was that two weeks in New Zealand was not enough! I've travelled to every continent - New Zealand just took over the #1 favorite spot for me. Go there and be amazed.

I had to make up my mind for a holiday this year and really wanted to see New Zealand, thanks to a Dutch agency I was introduced to Haka Tours. I've never heard of them before but honestly forget everything you think you know about travelling agencies because these guys are simply awesome. From start to finish they walk you through the entire process of booking, adding activities at your own leisure and finding the perfect accommodation before and after your tour. My huge compliments to Holly here for being incredibly patient and dealing with all kinds of questions!

For the actual tour of 16 day amplified NZ, I had Tom as my Tour Guide... The man is simply awesome beyond belief. He'll make you do things you never though you would be able to do, he'll convince you to jump off random bridges by shouting "just do it". If there is one person who loves NZ, it's him and he knows how to show it off. He will absolutely go out of his way to get people the best value for their money; you want to hug a lamb, he will not sleep until you did. Never saw snow? We'll just drive up to a ski resort to throw snowballs! Tom added so much on the tour that we already missed him the first minute he left us behind. Everybody needs a friend like Tom in his life :)

If you're even just considering seeing NZ, do it with Haka. It's simply amazing to go in with an open mind and have nothing to worry about, while doing crazy stuff. New Zealand itself is absolutely gorgeous, the add on activities are all so much fun to do and you will get the best value for your money in this tour. All the while you don't feel rushed or stressed out, everything is taken care off, you just need to enjoy it and relax!

In the end I went skydiving twice, bungy jumped twice, met some of the best people you can imagine and had the best time of my life. You know it was a good trip when you don't want to get on the plane to go back home... I would do it all over in a heartbeat.

My final advice? Just do it!!

If I could give a higher score than 10 I would. Haka was absolutely amazing. I have been on tours before and always felt rushed and exhausted so I was a bit skeptical when my friend suggested this one. Haka completely changed my perception of a tour company and blew it out of the water. I went on the 16 day Amplified tour and had Tom as our tour guide and he completely made the trip. He turned what could have been a go-go-go see this, do that, eat, sleep, repeat tour into an incredibly fun road trip with the friends you never knew you had. Tom's "just do it" attitude changed me in many ways, so much so that I went skydiving (something I never thought I would/could do in a million years) and it was the best experience I've ever had in my life. He customised our trip according to what we were interested in (someone wanted to hug a lamb and by god Tom found a way to make that happen... I have so many examples like this) and this is what really made the trip unique. Even though we were constantly on the move we were on "Tom time" and I never felt rushed. I liked how relaxed the trip was, you could do as little or as much as you wanted. The add-on activities and the amount of options available were awesome. Tom was honest about each add-on, which I greatly appreciated. He told us which tours were awesome, which were worth the money and value, and which were not. I really liked how flexible the booking was and how accommodating Tom was with finding and booking the right activity. It was also convenient to be able to prebook activities online and still be able to add on during the trip. They just put it on your tab and you pay at the end. I cannot speak or think more highly of Haka. New Zealand stole a piece of my heart and I've never been more sad to leave somewhere. I am so glad that I chose Haka tours to introduce me to this amazing country. I will definitely find a way to go back and I'm now on a mission to get everyone I know to go on a Haka tour!

Super like service provided by Haka Tour.
1) Website - so informative with nice UI
- with the itinerary details and the activities selection for everyday and with all the info arranged nicely
- video on how the tour works also and interview of the the past traveller with all activities made me feel more excited every time watched it before the trip
2) Payment method
- so flexible and everyone can easily book their dream trip with as little as NZD99 and pay bit by bit till a month before the trip.
3) Group size
- I find 16 ppl as max is just nice size and can know the travel mate better during the travel - Happy Family !!
4) Don't need hop on & off
- I have leg injury and not convenient for hop on and off
- I don't have the hustle to call or book online for each route / pass which offered by other tour operator.
5) Tourist Advisor - Holly Waddell
- always replied my email queries promptly
- information / answer given always relieves my worried before the trip.
6) Tour Manger - Tom
- very experience and entertaining person who so passionate about his job and ensure all of the traveller enjoy the trip in NZ
- very energetic and positive tour guide with daily quote "Happy Day!!" to start the day & "Just Do It!!" when we hesitate to do the activities.
- also keep look after me to ensure that the activities that I pre-booked was suitable for me and will not injured my leg.
- he will always tried his best to fulfill all traveller's wish that within his limit
- eg. he brought our group to eco farm to allow me to hug the little sheep and other small animals
- eg. he also brought us to the Coronet Peak at Queenstown when I told him that I never see and play with snow before. (don't have snow in Msia & SG)

Super Thanks to HAKA Tours and all the staffs who make my NZ trip so special & memorable one :)

Haka Tour is an excellent small group tour with awesome tour manager. Our tour manager Tom was a very fun guy, he really looked after everyone in the group and made sure we were all having happy days. Haka Tour will give you the best way experiencing New Zealand in a small group, they would stop in lookout places you would not know and you will also be able to book activities in advance to avoid disappointment.
Haka Tour did change my opinion about tour companies, they are awesome.

Had a great time with Haka Tours. Everything from the booking process to the tour is well done. Tom, our guide was excellent and genuinely wanted us all to enjoy ourselves. The people on the tour were a great bunch and we all got along really well.

I really like the small group atmosphere, and also being able to pre-book activities if we wanted to.

I lived a dream this summer, going for the first time in New Zealand. But, without Haka Tour and our brilliant guide Tom, it would't be such an amazing travel of 16 days all around the country!
Tom transformed our trip in a beautiful and funny experience: he was full of ideas and surprises all during the road!
All the guys I met were open-mind, and sharing 4beds rooms with them created and facilitated new friendships, as opening a great breakfast box in morning and smiling all the time.
I deeply loved New Zealand with this original, small and familiar local company!

I was worried when I ran out of suitable adjectives on day 3...but the 24 day tour I was recently part of lived up to it's name of EPIC! Booking with Haka Tours is the best decision I have ever made. Every step of my journey to, and within, New Zealand was full of information and helpful tips to maximise my time and enjoyment. The varying types of accommodation were always to a high standard; especially the Haka lodges! These were new, modern & comfortable - full of useful gadgets. The breakfast box meant mornings were quick and easy - ensuring we could get straight out to whatever activity we were booked in for that day. All the add on activities I opted for were fantastic...the only difficult part was having to remind myself I couldn't do all of them. Our guide, Tom, was full of interesting and useful information, whilst also going above & beyond to ensure everything was well organised and FUN. My only regret is that I had to come home!

Waw! I did the 24 day Epic NZ tour and it really was epic.
From the moment I signed in for the tour, the people of Haka Tours have been very helpful. The tour advisors are there to answer all the questions you might have during your preparation and they send you all the documents and extra information you need.
It was my first real solo trip, but the group was really nice. Because it never got bigger than 16 people, we really got to know each other. Tom, our tour guide, did a wonderful job. His knowledge about NZ is inexhaustive and his energy is just infinite. He is just such a genuinely nice guy and does all he can to make your trip as epic as it can get. He's really honest and tells you which activities are nice and which aren't. You don't get the feeling he's trying to sell you activities; he just wants to you to have a good time. Besides, we had heaps of random stops on the road. Those were the things that made the difference; you'd never do those things with a bigger tour company. Moreover, I don't know any other tour companies that play 'bug splat bingo' or 'boat-float-goat' while driving around the beautiful country that NZ is.
The Haka Lodges were also brilliant. They were brand new and offer everything a backpacker needs. The staff are really friendly and helpful.
Just book a Haka Tour, I promise you won't regret it.

I went to NZ and jumped on a HAKA Tour. It was a great decision due to my time being so short in NZ, and with Tom, my tour leader, everything was organised in a way where I could go off and do as I please each day, but I still went to places and saw beautiful landscapes I probably wouldn't have seen had I been trekking abut in my own car. I may hove only been on tour for 7 days, but geez did I do a lot in those days.

Haka Tours is the best possible way to experience one of the best countries in the world: New Zealand. I did the 7 day North Island Adventure tour + 2 days South Island extension an it was really awesome. I'm very much of an introvert and didn't know quite to expect about travelling with others without knowing them, but the group of people I travelled with have become good friends and our tour guide, Tom, was absolutely brilliant making sure that everybody had a wonderful time. So, if you are travelling to New Zealand (lucky you!), you are going alone and you are hesitant of joining this tour because of your shyness or other related reasons, do not hesitate and go with Haka Tours, you will have a truly memorable trip! 😀

I have just got back from the most amazing experience of my life (12 Day South Island Adrenaline Junkie Tour) and I loved every minute! 10/10 isn’t enough to express how much fun you will have if you book with Haka Tours! Their website made it really simple to book everything easily and quickly with maximum confidence. Nic and Holly were fantastic at fielding my many questions and made me feel like a valued customer right from day one. Tom, my tour guide, was amazing! I’m naturally shy and was nervous, but his friendly manner and positive attitude made me feel relaxed. He was a fantastic professional, organizing activities and making arrangements but was also fun to be around, with an infectious enthusiasm and passion for New Zealand and what he does which made the tour so enjoyable. He encouraged everyone to challenge themselves without ever once being pushy or making anyone feel uncomfortable. Tom gave us guided tours, organised fantastic nights out for us to bond as a group and took us to some brilliant locations off the beaten track that we wouldn’t have seen with a big tour company. He was even there to support us in his off duty time (thanks for rescuing me from that spider Tom!). As for the trip itself, wow! This was my third trip to New Zealand, but I must admit, I have never seen the country quite like this before! Locations were amazing, great accommodation and superb choice of activities. In twelve days, I went horse trekking, flew in a propeller plane, rode in a helicopter, hiked on a glacier, kayaked across a lake, trekked through a national park, stayed in a rainforest and rode a train in a wetsuit to name but a few! I have made lots of new friends that I will definitely stay in touch with, clogged up Facebook with thousands of photographs and made memories that will last a lifetime. I am definitely going to travel with them again! If you are going to NZ, stop reading reviews of Haka Tours and just book one! I promise you won’t regret it!

I did the 24 day epic tour and epic it was! Fantastic in every way. No complaints in any area except I could have done another 24days! It was very well organised, Tom was the best tour guide I have ever had, he was informative, helpful, full of energy and enthusiasm and did everything he could to fill our days and make our tour extra special with lots of little fun querky stops along the way. The accommodation was great especially the Haka lodges themselves, there were brand new and had all the facilities you could possibly need. There was lots to eat for breakfast, I felt looked after the whole time. The activities were amazing and even the free options were fantastic because New Zealand is such a beautiful part of the world you never knew what might happen, like killer whales swimming past while we stood on the beach! So don't feel put off if you think you can't afford many activities, there is plenty to do! It was the best time of my life and I have never been so happy.
So don't ponder on it just book it!

Awesome tour with "BURTO" just last week. After a slow start at Mt Hutt, it was on for the rest of the week. BURTO held off The Remarkables as a snow storm was to hit and was on the money. They called it best day of the season. Every mountain was great, and to be able to get ready and get on the bus was a no-brainer. My first trip to New Zealand, and as a 54 yo snowboarder hope it's not my last. The hostels were great and the company good. Touring on my lonesome but being able to board with others as a group was awesome. I'll have to be fitter next time, but was an absolute experience. Thanks BURTO and Haka Tours. LEGEND! What a beautiful country this is. Truly! I gave it a nine cause I'm holding off for a ten next time.😎👍

Me and my husband had a great time in New Zealand with Haka Tours. We were so happy that we chose Haka Tours, they provided us with options that catered to our budget and we loved our guide, Tomo Whaka aka "Tom"! He made our trip even better. Not only was he very informative, he made sure that we had a good time even though we were short of funds by giving us ideas for free activities. We found it useful as this was our first time in NZ and we wouldn't have enjoyed the country more if not for this amazing guide. Furthermore, our last night's stay in Haka Lodge in Christchurch was amazing. The trip was also our honeymoon trip, despite being a backpackers lodge, they managed to make it really special for our little budget honeymoon. They upgraded our room to an apartment, and they gave a surprise gift for which we were very touched. So, it was the best experience ever and it's all thanks to Haka Tours and Haka Lodge!

Had an amazing time with Haka Tours. Was on the bus (Vinny) for one week around the South Island. One of the benefits with Haka is the smaller tours which allowed us to stop more frequently at scenic spots and meant it was more personal than a big coach. Our guide Si was really knowledgeable on so many different topics and had great stories! Everyone loved him ! Really going to miss the people I met on tour and hopefully will be able to catch up with them again in the future . The itinerary allowed for plenty of time to fit in any activity desired which the office (thanks Nic!!) or guide will arrange for you. The Skydive Wanaka and Ice Explorer in Franz Josef were fantastic as were the views from the top of the Queenstown Gondola and the Tranzalpine train.

Nothing but great things to say about Haka Tours! Everyone there is amazing as was my 16 day Amplified NZ Tour. I did things I never thought I ever had the balls for like the Bungy, skydive, flying fox, gravity canyon swing and black water rafting...not bad for a girl from a small town who battles anxiety and depression on a daily basis! I learnt so much and grew so much and most of it was thanks to the intricate planning and organisation of all at Haka especially my amazing tour guide Si (who I have nothing but love for) for getting to know me especially what I wanted to accomplish and then pushing me just the right amount to just go and do that. With Haka I felt like they were my friends rather than guides and all treated me with respect and kindness and went out if their way to help haul my big pink overpacked suitcase (yes I'm high maintenance) up and down the stairs at their various lodges and Si hauling it on and off the bus!! I made great friends on the tour and was allowed to hug my way through New Zealand!! My door but more importantly my heart is always open to Haka tours and everyone there and all the friends I made on tour who I hassle weekly with catchup texts 😜! Finally I can't get over how beautiful New Zealand is and how much like home from home it felt like. I'm so lucky I got to experience it with Haka, real New Zealanders who showed me the real New Zealand! Lots of love Zainab X

I've just finished the 16 day Amplified Tour and it was everything I had hoped for and more! I chose Haka Tours specifically for the small group size and because they take care of everything - leaving you to enjoy the incredible scenery in New Zealand and the vast array of experiences available, whether that's zipping down a canyon on a flying fox or cruising over Milford Sound in a light aircraft.

Everything was very easy and well organised - mainly down to our fantastic tour guide Si, who clearly loves New Zealand and showing it off to people, and he knows it inside out as well as being perfectly happy to answer any random question that comes his way. His energy, knowledge and laid back attitude meant that we bonded really well as a group and if the weather played up there was always a back up plan with the minimum of fuss. Accommodation throughout was great and all of the staff I met were more than happy to help with any questions we had.

Even people who have never even thought of visiting New Zealand I'll be telling to go after this - and the Haka Tour was the perfect way of doing it because we went all over the South and North Islands, doing everything from paragliding over Queenstown, to winding our way through the rainforest, to visiting stunning waterfalls hidden away from view and it was an unforgettable, and unique, experience, with every day a new adventure. Just trust me and book it - you won't regret it.

Written by a 61YO omeone new to group tours who picked Haka not for adrenaline release but to see NZ from an adventuresome vantage, I was quite delighted by the services of Haka. Notably, the 2 guides, Sy and Hygi were both friendly, helpful, and attentive. Their scope of NZ knowledge was impressive. Though they volunteered lits of information, I learned much more by asking them specific questions. The places and activities chosen over the 16 days seemed to be a nice balance of choices. My wife and I extended our stay by a week and both Si and Hygi were gracious in recommending other places to visit. The accommodations and eateries recommended were good values though the Haka lodges in Christchurch and Queenstown were the least satisfying as they were crowded and byzantine; a rabbit warren, not a lodge. Also somewhat less than expected was that breakfasts were too often undersupplied though, to be fair, I never told them that during the tour and expect they would have happily adjusted.

There was a very nice international group of fellow guests (16 people and 8 nationalities ages 30? to 65?) that got along well together and made the trip MUCH more fun.

Overall, they exceeded expectations, primarily because of the quality of the guides and because there are no places in NZ not worth visiting.

The small group worked well and we truly were all able to have our own unique experience, but sharing it with new friends. Si our guide was fantastic throughout the trip. No problem/request too big, no amount of driving too much and the endless questions always answered with good humour. I laughed every day and challenged myself with great new activities. New Zealand was everything id hoped and more. Haka Tours helped make that experience, from passionate guides like Si helping you see 'off the beaten track'. To Nic and the team who organise everything so well before the tour. Id recommend this trip (16 day) to everyone wanting to travel and see New Zealand (especially solo travellers). Hygi (Tour Guide) made the trip feel like we were just on a road trip with our best friends. We booked a private room - we had never stayed at backpackers/hostels before. We were pleasantly surprised with how clean the accommodations were. Haka Tours takes the stress out of traveling around NZ - they not only get you to the accommodations/activities you want to get to, but they show you much more than you expect with side trips or neat stops along the way. When we are fortunate enough to make it back to NZ we will be back on a Haka Tours trip because they simply made it more fun than we would have had on our own.

The itinerary was well thought out, we covered a lot of ground and it was memorable every step of the way. Our tour leader Tom is exceptional, he is relaxed and friendly yet very organized. He loves the country and evidently knows it very well, stopping at less visited sites to share with us some fun or beautiful spots that were not on the published itinerary. He made sure each and every one of us on the tour was looked after and comfortable. On one occasion he went out of his way to provide us particularly with the support we needed (thanks Tom!). After hearing nothing but amazing things about NZ, I went into this trip with pretty high expectations. Haka Tours blew all those expectations away! I did the 24 day epic NZ tour and it was incredible. There were two main reasons I picked Haka Tours; first, it is so stress free and easy going. They do all the planning and booking for you and you just get to relax and enjoy the ride. Second was, they're marketed as an adventure (and snow) tour company. This was exactly what I was looking for! I wanted to do it all and more! But everything is optional, so there's no compulsory activities if jumping off bridges and out of planes isn't your thing:) The best activities in my opinion were, the Nevis bungy, the Shotover Canyon Swing, and finally number one was skydiving (my favorite out of the four I did was in Paihia). Tom was the tour guide for this month long adventure. I can't say enough positive things about him. Tom really made the trip. He always had such a positive attitude, and not to mention how hilarious he was! So many laughs and good memories. The group size was perfect. At max we had 18. The best thing about this trip was the lasting friendships I made, I came out of this trip with truly great friends. There was so much packed into this trip! And to quote Tom, "you'll see what you see when you see it." :) We never had to stress about what the next day or two was going to be like, Tom took care of it all. Besides seeing the sights and doing fun and crazy things, you get to learn about NZ. You learn about the landscape, the culture, and the history. Tom was incredibly knowledgeable. It was great to learn everything to go along with the amazing beauty we were seeing that is uniquely NZ. If you're trying to decide if you should go or not, just do it! It's an experience you'll never forget. It is a once in a life time experience I'm so incredibly grateful for. I’m thankful to Haka Tours for making it so amazing! Two days after my 7 day North Island tour ended, I'm already planning a 12 day South Island tour for next year!
An absolutely incredible experience with a great TM in Hygi who deserves nothing but the highest praise and a group of 13 fantastic people to tour with.
A real shame that the Tongariro crossing was cancelled due to high winds but going to Taupo's hot pools was a fantastic substitute and with stuff like Flying Foxes, Black Water Rafting, Sea Kayaking, experiencing a Maori performance and feast and much more every day was filled with unforgettable moments. Thank you so much Haka. I will be back!

What can I say about Haka Tours. My first time in New Zealand and it was the greatest experience of my life. I did two tours, Snow Safari and the 24 Day Epic Adventure, and they were both awesome.

Before my tours, Nicola was a massive help in providing me with all the information I needed and booking me extra nights accommodation before and after the tours. She was a great help throughout. All the accommodation on both tours were very good and the Haka Lodges are my favourite places to stay.

The snow safari was one of the best weeks skiing I've had. It was great to be able to visit 6 different mountains and ski on different terrain each day. Burto's knowledge of the ski fields meant we could go off the beaten track and explore a lot more than if I had gone by myself. The day off in Queenstown is a good break and gives you the opportunity to take advantage off all the it has to offer.

I definitely got my money's worth for the 24 Day Epic Adventure. Burto made everyday a surprise and we never knew what we would be doing. The 8 metre Taupo cliff jump and Gum Boot throwing in Taihape were the standouts for random activities. All the activities I did were well organised and we were always given the option to do something if we had nothing booked in a certain location. My two favourites were the Shotover Canyon Swing and Skydive Wanaka - two NZ must dos!

Haka made me feel at ease and relaxed straight away and I could just sit back and enjoy this crazy journey.

Thank you Haka for an amazing experience. Couldn't have asked for more. I'll be back next year!

Unbelievably great time. I did the 16 Day Amplified New Zealand tour and it was amazing. I am 59 so an adventure tour was new to me. I was wondering if I would enjoy it - and I sure did. I was not able to do too many adventurous activities given my body is not the best, but Si Leonard did arrange a sky dive for me from 15,000 feet over Lake Taupo and that was the achievement of a life time for an old guy. Every aspect of the tour was amazing and I enjoyed interacting with the younger tour members who enjoyed all of the action. I had never stayed in a hostel before and was pleasantly surprised how nice they are (although due to sonic snoring I did have my own room). New Zealand is the most beautiful place in the world and I enjoyed each and every day and moment of this tour. I saw things I would never see otherwise and I have some great memories, from the trip, from the people I met and of New Zealand. This is a must do trip if you are willing to seek out a bit of adventure. Si was a great guide and Nicola kept us all organized. Well done. And I wish I had had time to do the 24 day tour!!!!

Haka Tours... Where to begin!?

These guys are really awesome. Everyone involved is super into what they do and will go out of their way to help out in any way they can.

After having them recommended to me by a friend who did a Snow Safari a couple of years ago, I gave them a shot and I can't fault them.

From the start, after a turn of unfortunate events, I had to change the tour I was on, which meant I was joining a little late and had a few days spare at the end - they catered my every need, and sorted everything for me. They arranged for my transport to Wanaka where I met up with my tour group and they arranged 2 extra days riding at Mt Hutt at the end of my trip at no extra cost (in fact they even knocked a bit off the cost to cover they days I missed!).

And on top of that, when the snow up north was poor, Haka arranged for me to stay in Queenstown for a few extra days instead of returning to Christchurch allowing me to ride the better snow and still make my flight home. So a MASSIVE shout out has to go to Nic in the Christchurch office who sorted it all out for me and was massively helpful and friendly despite me being an awkward customer.

Our tour guide, Burto was a hero, knew everything about everywhere we went, both on the hills and in the towns, tailored everything to suit our tour group - he knew exactly what we wanted, and on top of that he rode big when we got on the mountain.

And all the other Haka guys we met along the way, in the Lodges, in the bars, on the mountains, everyone involved on every step of the way would happily go out of their way to make sure you were having an epic holiday - and its safe to say they succeeded.

I owe a huge thank you to Haka tours for an awesome holiday and would happily (and already have) recommended them to anyone and everyone who's going to NZ.

Haka tours - 10/10 thanks for everything.

First time to New Zealand and Haka Tours really delivered. The tour included a variety of beautiful places in the South Island of New Zealand and our tour guide Si had extensive knowledge that he was able to share with us, which added to the experience. I was fortunate to travel with a wonderful group of people which was topped off by our amazing tour guide Si who was fun, easy-going, made the experience enjoyable and educational and who accommodated the needs of those in the group. Will definitely book with Haka Tours again.

I was travelling to Queenstown New Zealand for a work convention, and searched the internet for a different way to see NZ. As I had previously travelled overseas on large tour groups of 20 or more I had decided not this time! When I discovered the Haka Adventure tour I knew that was for me. The promise of adventure, excitement and experience was certainly lived up to by our tour leader Si. Si showed us the real NZ, away from the crowd, and we experienced many sights that would/could have been passed by. The variety and ages of fellow travellers made for an enjoyable experience. Si was fantastic, he made sure we all safe and comfortable all times, any pre booked tours we were there, and any additional tours were accommodated. The tour lived up to and exceeded my expectations, I have certainly bragged to all my friends about the experience, and I'll be back for a tour of the north island. Si was fantastic and really made the trip!

November 2015
I returned to New Zealand to explore the North Island after having so much fun in 2014. I flew into Auckland and joined the tour from the Auckland Haka Lodge, which is situated in 'K' street well appointed and close to the action. Tom was our tour leader and was soo much fun, energetic and knowledgeable. The group had a diverse age group and Tom was aware of all members and made sure each person was included, happy and well looked after. We were treated to many eyegasms that were not on the itinerary - a gumboot throwing competition, early morning bathing in thermal pools, playing in playgrounds, checking out the 'living rocks' (seals) and many ice-cream stops.Tom's description of the activities each day were tremendous and accurate but always had plenty of surprises up his sleeve. I had a fantastic holiday/adventure and was sad to leave the group after 14 days.

I have just come back from the 24 day tour…awesome experience from start to finish! The admin side of things was very efficient;- Nic was great at helping me organise a meet up with my aunt who lives in New Zealand. I got on really well with everyone on tour and the group felt just the right size. Large enough that you had a range of people to socialise with and small enough that you could form close relationships.

This tour was made for me by how effective Si is as a Tour Manager. He came across as a thoroughly decent, 100% trustworthy guy and I felt in very safe hands the whole tour. His humour and easy going nature really helped the group to bond in the first few days. Si was passionate about showing us New Zealand and very well informed about its culture and history. It was great to be taken on some less well known walks and I liked the spontaneity of this too. I really appreciated that Si took the time to socialise with us in the evenings and seemed to care about getting to know us as individuals. I think this personal touch is what makes Haka Tours unique and I will definitely be recommending Haka Tours to friends and family in the future. Thank you for the experience of a life time!

So glad I found this company! Travelling with my daughter who's 19 (I'm 49), I wanted to find somewhere we could both fit it & Haka came up trumps :-) We did the 7 day South Island Lick & it was AWESOME! From initial contact onward, we received first class service which went beyond our tour period & provided a safety net as we continued to travel on alone.
We paid for the twin room upgrade & all our accommodation was satisfactory or good - what you'd expect for the money paid. Ranging from YHA to motels, with Haka's own lodges in Queenstown & Christchurch, being particularly good.
The itinerary was well thought through & long journeys broken up by stops at waterfalls or ocean viewpoints or gratefully ended at a Spa pool! You could choose to add as many extra activities as your nerve & budget allowed. We did the heli-hike experience at Franz Joseph, my daughter sky-dived at Wanaka & we jet-boated in Queenstown - all fantastic experiences!
Hygi, our Tour Manager was exceptional! He took time to get to know everyone in the group as an individual. The tour experience was totally relaxed to the participant but I know a lot of hard work & long hours were going on behind the scenes. Perhaps the biggest compliment I can pay, is that I now consider him to be a good friend & I know many others do too :-) Our whole Haka Tours group experience was fabulous & in hind sight we'd have stayed on for the 12 day tour. Heaps good!

Haka Tours ROCKS!! I spent countless hours surfing the web in search of the perfect way to see and experience New Zealand. After going over the numerous possibilities, Haka Tours hit the mark, it sounded perfect (and it was perfect); small groups, an itinerary which covered both islands and most importantly knowledgeable tour managers providing guidance every step of the way. I chose to do the 24 Day Epic Tour. It was truly, epically OUTSTANDING!!!! For starters, you have visual feasts everywhere you look, leaving me speechless. Had an absolutely brilliant group of fellow travelers on this tour who all came together for one incredible road trip across this magical place. It is hard to believe we were all strangers in the beginning. In the end, we all felt like old friends. There were a whole range of activities offering you the opportunity to challenge your limits and boundaries, being pleasantly surprised each and every time. The tour managers are compassionate, understanding and non-judgmental with regards to one’s phobia’s, creating an environment which leaves you wanting to test your limits and do things you never thought you would do. It was a blast!!! I never wanted it to end!!! Hygi, you are an absolute legend and a true rock star!!!! Heaps & heaps of thanks!!! By the way, Hygi also knew I was huge art fan so he managed to sneak in a few sculpture viewings along the way, such a nice surprise:-) Si, thank you for getting us off to a terrific start, cooking us a wonderful dinner the first night, setting the initial tone for one of the most memorable adventures ever!!!! Nicola, thank you for your help and for making everything so easy. Haka Tours thank you for being an enthusiastic, passionate group of people who truly care about and love what you do!!!!

DO THIS NOW!! I did the 16 day tour with Burto as my guide and the experience was without a doubt the greatest time I'd spent in New Zealand. You're in a small group on max 16 peeps and you get to know them all as your friends for life within a couple of days. I went places that left me speechless and all could do was be there overwhelmed by the beauty of it. Burto knew all the little secrets of New Zealand inside and out and took the greatest of pleasure and pride in sharing them with us. Then there's the amazing activities that make you laugh with happiness for being there in moment of madness when you do them and doing it with the group makes you more family than friends, not to mention the socials. On impulse we got tickets to watch rugby league game in Wellington and we painted the town all night. Don't get me wrong there's the thrill side of it but the whole tour was relaxed as there's no pressure to do what you don't feel confident doing.

I'll say this - Go in to the tour with a willingness to try anything, Burto or any of the other Haka guides will make it happen for you. You'll then come out with a love for NZ, new friends and a desire to do crazy stuff.
The longer a tour the better, Haka Tours are best don't bother looking elsewhere.

The company's customer service is second to none and all the staff want to help make sure you have a great time. There's adventurous activities or slower paced days and, staying in hostels, you have more freedom to wander and travel, meeting locals and seeing more of the country than you would in hotels. In a country where there is no concept of 'stress', Haka Tours is the perfect way to relax into the incredible scenic drives. And then have awesome adventures bungying/swinging/rafting/off-roading/kayaking/glacier-hiking/skydiving with the friends you'll make along the way.

One advice: BOOK THIS TOUR!! I went on the 24 days Epic tour, and it was the best holiday of my life! After I read all the good reviews, I chose this tour without a doubt, and this was certainly the best choice I ever made! I was travelling by myself but I very quickly met and appreciated all the other people in our small group (most were also solo travelers), and they became my family for the next weeks (we spent Christmas and new year together!).
Our tour adviser helped with anything I possibly needed before the tour, and all I had to think about was to set my wake-up alarm to catch my plane! Same during the tour itself, everything was very well organized, all the activities booked for us, we knew where to meet, sleep, eat… and even the toilet stops were always perfectly planned!! It was a real holiday for me, no thinking, just enjoying.
I also really appreciated the fact that the group was small, so we could basically do everything we wanted and make a totally tailored tour! We had to go from A to B during the day of course, but we could decide to turn right or left because it looked nicer (even though everything looks nice there!) or spend more time here or there just because we felt like it (stop at a kid’s playground, jump from an attractive cliff on the way…). Our tour guide Burto made me love NZ as much as he did, and he is so knowledgeable about his beloved country I was impressed. He is also a great cook and entertainer!
No need to buy any guide book, we saw and did everything we needed to see, and much more! We went places the foreigners don’t always know (no spoilers!), or can’t go with a big bus and discovered the real NZ the way it should be. Also, as a massive adrenaline junkie, I ticked a lot of boxes.
I would recommend (and already did!) Haka Tours without a doubt, they are very professional, really love their country, and will do everything they can to share their culture and give you the best souvenirs of your life! Mille mercis!

If you are a solo travel going to NZ this is your best option. It was amazing :]

I went on the 7day North Island tour, however I actually kind of created my own 10 day tour. I added on the 2 day extension to the South Island to Christchurch and then a 1 night stay in Christchurch Haka Lodge...so in total it was actually a 10 day tour with two cities on the South Island. So if you are looking to modify your tour to fit your travel plans/budget it's totally doable. The staff was lovely, attentive, and prompt in responding. I used he online chat option frequently to iron out an details/scheduling issues, and just general questions about how to prepare. Our tour guide, Hygi, was fantastic as well, very knowledgable about NZ, and added his own personal anecdotes on every location. I also liked how flexible our tour was- if we wanted coffee we stopped, if we saw an activity not listed as a tour option, Hygi inquired about it for me. Our tour had 12 people on it (ages 20-54, the bulk of us in our 20s and early 30s) and there were much more girls than guys but everyone got along great. I do know that a lot of the shorter tours are part of the larger tours so just know that you may enter in on a previously started longer tour in which everyone has been with each other for a week or so. You also should be aware that some activities get booked out if you try to soon up during the tour (missed out on the dolphin swim :/ ). But when the surf lesson was overbooked we just rented gear and Hygi offered to to teach us. Thanks dude!

This tour is for you if you are:
1) Looking to meet like minded travelers
2) Are more concerned with experiencing the culture/nature than pub hopping
3) Ready to have the time of your life in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Thanks Haka!

I went on the 16 day NZ amplified tour and had the best time of my life. My only regret is that I didn't do the 24 day tour.

They were really great (and quick) at answering all my questions before the tour and our guide Burto (who is not only AWESOME but also funny and a great cook) was very knowledgeable about NZ and kept us entertained throughout the whole trip.

I loved that the groups are small (max 16 people) which means that you get to know people in your group well and that there is no set itinerary. Each day was full of surprises (for e.g. quick stop by the road so as to jump off the cliff into Lake Taupo or at a playground on the way to Wellington).

Thanks to the crew at Haka Tours for the best holiday ever and I'm hoping to book the snow tours next with them.

This was my first trip alone anywhere, and the staff at Haka Tours were on the ball every step of the way to ensure that the entire experience ran smoothly!! They answered all questions in a timely manner and did all of the work with the scheduling/bookings of transport & activities so that all you have to do is enjoy the tour!

The tour was incredible! The itinerary was great, but what made it even better were the hidden surprises & scenic stops along the way. You are never bored on this tour! There are always options for everyone even if you are not participating in one of the pre-booked activities. I was also very impressed with the knowledge of the local guide (Burto - such a cool guy!). He knew EVERYTHING! Our tour was packed with tons of facts about NZ which further enriched my experience.

The size of the tour group was perfect! Thanks to Haka Tours, I've met a wonderful group of people who I now call my friends & shared many unforgettable experiences with them.

Had a brilliant time - loved the tour group, the itinerary, NZ, and the way Haka organised the whole trip from start to finish. One of the things that makes Haka different is how you can tailor the trip to what you want to do and there's not loads of waiting around for other people to do activities, like there are with other tour groups. There was a range of ages and nationalities in our group which helped make the tour- made some great friends!

A big thumbs up to Si for being a great guide and making it so fun. Si also helped me plan my onward travel - and he did a much better job than any standard travel agent! Thanks also to Nic for being so efficient and v helpful in organising my trip.

I would definitely come on another Haka tour if visiting NZ again and have already recommended to friends!

I don't think I have ever had a better time in my life than I had travelling New Zealand on my 7 day South Island Lick Tour. The South Island is absolutely spectacular, from the sensational turquoise Lake Tekapo and its associated scenic flight over the Southern Alps, amazing bike rides along Lake Wanaka, to reaching the ends of the earth at the incredible Doubtful Sound, I literally was suffering from epic scenery overload, had no idea so much epic geography could be packed into so small a space.

But most of all, my fond experiences will always be spending amazing quality time with our tour guide Hygi and all of the other amazing people on the tour that I was able to make friends with. From playing disk golf (literally the best sport I have ever played !!), to hanging out at the bar playing pool and singing Karaoke at Franz Joseph, or simply the amazing and engaging conversations you could have within the tour bus, the common theme was that Hacka tours provides the unique experience of feeling like you are part of a family, where the people become more important than the scenery.

But what's really incredible about Hacka Tours is that if you are travelling on your own, this is the tour for you. It's often the case before you decide to go on a tour by yourself that you can feel a bit worried about how you will end up fitting into the general dynamic especially if the people you are touring with are already in their own pre-set groups. However Hacka tours is mostly filled with single travellers just like you, so you immediately share that common trait with them which generally makes fitting into the group immensely easier.

I would definitely give Hacka Tours 10/10 and would highly recommend it to everyone!

I went skydiving over the sparkling Lake Taupo, sea kayaking in the tropical Coromandel Peninsula, and glowworm cave rafting in Waitomo. Can a tour be as good as all the reviews say? YES! We were on the 16-day Amplified Tour of North and South Islands with Si as our tour guide. He was fantastic -- enthusiastic, knowledgeable, organized, responsible. I couldn't believe how many activities got packed into our trip. We were on the older side of the group (mid-50's compared to mostly early 30's for the rest of our group) but we loved every day and every adventure and did so many amazing things -- sea kayaking, black water rafting, white water rafting, zorb, agrojet boats, high ropes course, jet boats, tandem bridge swing, swim with dolphins, bungy jump, canyon swing, luge, paragliding, canyoning, glacier heli-hike. I want to go back and do it all over again. But even if you're not up for all the extreme activities, there was lots to see and do each day while keeping both feet on the ground. The accommodations were comfortable, food was readily available, everyone in our group was friendly and supportive of everyone else. Haka Tours offers a trip of a lifetime -- don't miss out!

Coming from a person who is not real big on group tours, take it from me, go on a tour with Haka - you won't regret it!

The group size was perfect, not too many to feel like a number, and not too few to get sick of your co-passenger's company! Meeting so many people from different backgrounds and countries was really interesting, and by spending so much time together connections are made with the other people and we formed bonds very quickly.

I vividly remember stopping off at a beautiful waterfall along the tour and all of our group hopped off together chatting and laughing. At the same time, a huge hop-on hop-off bus pulled up and not one person getting off the 30+ seater bus looked like they were having a good time!

Our tour guide was Si, and it was so nice to be traveling around with a local who genuinely loves the place where he lives. I think his passion about the West Coast of NZ rubbed off on all of us.

I would (and have!) recommend Haka Tours to anyone heading over to NZ that wish to see as much of the country as possible in a short amount of time, and meet some cool people along the way.

Really can't thank Haka Tours enough for what was the best holiday I've had.

Our tour guide Burto alone was worth the money, not since William Wallace has a man loved his country more. His enthusiasm really rubs off on the whole group and even on days where the weather is awful, he'll find something cool to do without fail. Overall just a topper of a bloke, can't give the guy enough credit.

New Zealand itself is obviously a brilliant place with so many things to see, do, jump off and every day is packed full of great activities - pretty much all of which are arranged for you by your tour guide. One of my favourite things though was actually travelling in the bus - constant banter, listening to some good music and enjoying the scenery with a beer in hand.

Also as many people have mentioned, the small group sizes mean that everybody gets involved and it ends up just being a road trip with your mates. There's no tight schedule to keep to or anything, if you see anything you fancy stopping for, just say and Burto would be happy to do so. There's obviously an agenda for the day but it's really, really flexible depending on what the group are keen for.

Before I went on the tour I had read all these reviews so had really high expectations, but I can honestly say that Haka went above and beyond that and gave us as good a holiday as we could ever have, so again, thanks to all at Haka tours, Burto and everyone in the group! Cheers!

Best road trip ever - every day was a new adventure and a new activity.
Met heaps of new mates who soon felt like old mates.

Haka Tours themselves were excellent - took all the legwork of planning, booking, phoning, arranging, etc. out of our hands and just took us on an adventure.

Burto the tour guide is a legend, ridiculously knowledgable and great at guiding the group in activities; he was great at pitching different activities to different tastes.

I can't recommend haka tours highly enough, if any of my friends are heading to New Zealand I'll be pointing them towards Haka! Going back for a snow tour some time soon hopefully!!

We had a fabulous time on our two-week tour of the South and North Islands. New Zealand is beautiful beyond one's imagination. Our guide Darren was an enthusiastic host and advocate for his beloved NZ, taking us to many nooks and crannies of the country we wouldn't have experienced on our own. From bungy jumping to kayaking, hiking, dining, wildlife watching, Weta Cave and many other treasures, we had wonderful adventures every day of our trip. Robyn was a pleasure to work with planning our trip, graciously accommodating requests for changes right up until our departure. We've travelled extensively around the world for work and vacation, and have many points of reference for service. I give Haka Tours 5/5 stars for delivering a world class hospitality experience.

When looking for a good tour company to go around NZ with, I didn't want a party bus and I didn't want a group of OAPs, and Haka seemed to fit the bill perfectly. Then I checked the reviews and they seemed to good to be true - and it turns out they are all correct - it was an absolutely fantastic experience that I loved every minute of.

From the initial email contact with Nic who answered all my questions brilliantly, to the tour itself, which was out of this world, to the friends I made, I can't overstate how much I loved my three weeks in NZ with Haka. I can absolutely, without reservation, 110% recommend Haka Tours to anyone planning a trip to New Zealand. My only complaint is that 16 days was too short! The company has a family feeling to it, and I could not be happier I picked a local NZ-based tour company. Even before my tour started, communications with Nicola were responsive and helpful. Our guide Burto did an outstanding job, he felt like our personal concierge, allowing me to focus on nothing but maximum enjoyment of my holiday. We never worried about any logistics—booking activities, the weather forecast, dealing with hostel reception--Burto made it happen. He also has an obvious passion for New Zealand that was contagious to the entire group. The small size of the group was essential to allowing the daily itinerary to be spontaneous and flexible. Stop off for a wine tasting? Sure! Spot a magical photo-op? Pull over! Weather not looking so good tomorrow? Skydive today! Does the group want to sleep in tomorrow? Sweet as! Before you know it, you’ll feel like you are on a road trip with your best friends, making memories that you will never forget. Don’t hesitate--I already can’t wait to go back! Thanks Haka!

We had a month to tour NZ and wanted to avoid the hassles of, where go & stay, driving, reading maps and getting lost.
I hit the internet and found Haka Tours, it looked good & exciting -& it WAS exciting and REALLY good.
Our tour of North & South Island went to the best places where our guide told us the, history, ecology, geology & answered questions. We had a great time singing on the bus & admiring the view. We could not have done what we did "on our own" in the time we had.
Haka also solved the "where to stay" problem. We stayed in some fabulous places ( often in YHA sites) and we were glad we paid the extra fee for the double/ ensuite upgrade for all nights. Breakfast is included and some places we even got to do some mail meal cooking - our guide cooked us a great roast one night. Lunch was often bought on the road but I sometimes made our own lunches from bread and cheese/ham and salad. Dont forget to take a pocket knife!
Our favourite overnight stop was the train carriage at Raglan Beach. Room to dance !.
We also got really good advice about what our activity options were for each place (our guide was ALWAYS right - eh?) and we got to do what we wanted to do; weather permitting.
We are in our 60's but reasonably fit so we did not feel "out of place" on an adventure tour.
Although WE didnt bungy or jump out of a 'plane we did; fly on a dual flying fox; bounce down a hill inside a giant Zorb Ball; zip around in a jetboat; fly over Franz Joseph and Mt Cook at sunset, in a Piper Cherokee; walk up lots of mountains; bodysurf at Raglan Beach and kayak in 3 beautiful places, amongst other things.
All that and great company too!
Our guide managed to make it look effortless to keep a very diverse group of folks happy.
Sweet ez!
We both came back home fitter, happier and very glad we chose Haka Tours. So 10 out of 10 Haka
Tours P.S. Their Head Office staff were also very efficient and helpful.

Vicki and I have just been on a Haka Tour around New Zealand and we both had a fantastic holiday. Pre tour assistance from Nicola to book the tour was a great help in getting all the details sorted. Then having Burto as the tour guide was a real experience. This guy is awesome, never been on a tour like it before. Then being with a group of people who were all out to have a New Zealand adventure, made the tour a memorable experience.
Haka tours provide so many opportunities to enjoy so many activities, its up to you as to how extreme you want your experience to be. Burto’s personal experience and knowledge was invaluable in choosing which activities to do. There is no obligation to do any if you don’t want to.
In addition to the activities, Burto’s knowledge of his country was amazing. All along the tour, we were told about the different regions we were going through and the places of special interest. So often we stopped to look at special places, like the pool in the hill where we found dozens of baby seals frolicking in a secret nursery. Something you would never find on your own.
All in all, a great experience, highly recommended for anyone who wants to do a bit more than sit on their backside and watch the world go by.

My experience with Haka tours was fantastic.

Having never been so far from home before and all on my own, I admit I was a little nervous in the days leading up to my tour; worried that it might not turn out to be everything I hoped for. But all of those trepidations were gone within mere hours of the journey beginning. By the afternoon of day 1, I was certain that I had an awesome 24 days in store for me.

First of all the country is incredible. It seemed like each new destination we went to, I would say was my new favourite spot. All of the activities -- both add-ons and included ones -- were a blast and there are plenty of sweet as surprises along the way. Including lots that I would never have known about had I tried to plan and execute the trip all on my own. And with the smaller group size, the freedom and flexibility to not always have a set-in-stone plan ensured that everyone was always having a good time.

We had a great group of people on tour. This included my other tourmates, our guide Burto, and all of the people and characters we met along the way. Burto in particular did a great job. He really helped to make the experience that much better. I'm sure all the guides are great, but if anyone I knew went on a Haka Tour, I'd hope they have him. The guy is a walking encyclopedia of New Zealand facts, figures, culture and history. He was funny and cool but also a first class guy who was professional and always strived to make sure each individual was having a good time.

I'd recommend Haka to anyone and would love to go back and visit NZ again someday! Cheers

Haka Tours are fantastic!

Before I went on tour I tried really hard to find a negative review, because I was suspicious of so many positive reviews. Having returned from an awesome 16 days around NZ, I now realise why I couldn't find a single negative review - I loved every minute of it!

The flexibility of the itinerary and small group makes it feel like a road trip with a bunch of mates. Having an enthusiastic, local, knowledgeable and fun guide (Si) only added to this feel.

The included activities and surprises along the way made each day more exciting. I didn't feel pressured to do activities, but did find the confidence to do something I never thought I would ever do (skydiving).

Despite our vastly different backgrounds, ages and nationalities we had an awesome group experience, which I think is related to the sort of people that Haka attracts.

As an Aussie, I'm sure I'll be back to NZ soon. Maybe it's time to learn to ski on a Haka snow tour...

They're the best when it comes to small-grp tours, but you know what, HAKA TOURS IS AWESOME WITH PRIVATE TOURS, TOO!!!

I went on a private tour of the North Island (Auckland-Matamata-Rotorua-Taupo-National Park-Auckland) with 5 other friends during our Easter break from the uni, and I couldn't be happier we went with Haka Tours!

Hygi was most accommodating, very flexible, always on time, and is just heaps of fun to travel with. We initially just had the Hobbiton tour pre-booked, but whenever we thought of something else to do (experience Maori culture, skydive, ride the luge, visit a geothermal park, or even just try good and reasonably-priced steak), Hygi the superman made it happen for us! Even if he'd been driving us to and from everywhere, he was always pleasant and energetic and entertaining! I personally don't know how he does it, but he did it for us every day we were with him.

Whatever it is you're doing to your tour guides, Haka, keep doing it! =DD I know it's been repeated here so many times already, but it's really your people who make all the difference. Props to Robyn as well for arranging everything for us prior to our arrival (she made sure we stayed at the cleanest and most centrally-located hostels available) and for replying to our queries very quickly.

YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME! Everyone should be booking with you! <3

My trip was a mixture of 'visiting family' & a holiday.
I picked a Haka tour to give me an introduction to New Zealand....boy did I make a good choice,
Haka tours promised a holiday to remember & they completely outshone their promises...from the moment I booked the trip...to way beyond its final day in Auckland.
I have read some of the reviews on this site&its seems pointless to repeat their 100% positive feedback...just look at all those 10/10...
Suffice to say I was on the 9 day supercharged trip, joining in Greymouth&terminating in Auckland.our trip took in Punakaiki (fabulous retreat accommodation ),Abel Tasman national park (paradise, great accommodation again)&....it's all on the website but what they don't tell you is all the extra secret places we get to see thanks to the wonderful knowledge& skill of our fabulous tour guide Burto.I won't spoil it for you but you will not be disappointed...whether it be stopping the bus for that much wanted photo opportunity or a stop off in 'carrot' town...goggle it...it does exist... :-)
Robyn, admin,Burto, tour guide, staff at Haka lodge Christchurch, you have really got this tour formula 'spot on'
All members of the tour are treated equally,& I defy you not to enjoy yourself...Nothing is too much trouble for Haka Tours .Congratulations...I will be back, if you'll have me??

Did the 7-day South Island LICK tour. As so many others have said, the small bus (Murray!) and flexibility make it feel like a road trip with friends.

Burto, our guide, was awesome. He was always ready with cool suggestions & interesting stories. And if you wanted to stop the bus for a photo of interesting clouds, he was happy to do so.

There are a ton of options available - as many folks have said, there are things to do if you're not adventurous - but don't be surprised if you quickly become more adventurous than you ever thought you could be.

Because of the flexibility, if you decide midway through the trip that you are now have a compulsion to jump off of everything in sight and do a bunch of crazy new things -- you can!

There is plenty of time to relax on your own, too. We had a nice mix of folks on the tour, from all over the world, in ages 25-55, and whether you were in the mood for conversation or just staring out the window at the scenery -- everyone was very respectful and fun. In fact, the group was largely people who would normally travel on their own, so it had a very nice atmosphere.

A few tips: The folks who picked the "fly" option (as opposed to the "coach" option) to Milford Sound were much happier. It gives you a whole extra afternoon in Queenstown and the flight is not to be missed! I also did the horseback ride in Glenorchy/Paradise and it was a magical experience (and the one that engendered the most envy among my friends back home). And the Skydiving at Wanaka was awesome - the tandem instructors couldn't have made us newbies possibly feel more confident. Oh, and come prepared to swim... The "Triple Crown" of Lake, River, and Sea is mega-fun.

I hope to go back again next "summer" and would definitely recommend Haka to anyone with a road trip personality who wants to see the best New Zealand has to offer.

I just finished the 16 days amplified tour and it was wonderful! Holidays with Haka Tours is not just a tour bus, it’s a road trip! As it’s small size groups, you really get to know each other and after a few days you feel like you’re travelling with friends.
While preparing my travel, I often had questions and Robyn helped me to solve everything (thanks Robyn!). Once on tour, your guide helps you with any problem/question you may have. Our guide Burto was amazing, he organised our activities, gave us many explanations about the country, made sure everyone was happy. He really made theses holidays magic: we discovered incredible places, saw beautiful landscape and did crazy activities. He’s the best guide/cook/photographer. Thank you Burto!!
The only negative point is that at the end you feel like crying when you have to leave… If you have the chance to travel with Haka Tours, don’t hesitate, you’ll have the time of your life !

Wow - what can I say. Joined the 16 day Amplified tour of both North and South Islands with Burto as the tour leader. He was fantastic, created a feeling of togetherness within the group very quickly - important to me as I travel on my own. He was always encouraging, whether you're just jumping off a cliff to bungy jumping, and great fun to be around as well as a good cook! As well as the adrenaline sports time was also spent doing cultural things from walking to carving bone necklaces to the beautiful scenery to the incredible 'Fergburger' in Queenstown.

I would have no hesitation in advising anyone to book a place on a Haka tour and don't worry if you're not into the adrenaline stuff, there's always plenty of options.

I have also gained a motto from Nicola (Haka office - she joined us for the first part of the tour) 'there is always time to jump off something'.

The most fun way to see and experience NZ from a local point of view when you're travelling on your own. I actually went on the South Licks 7 day tour with Chris( see his review below). He pretty much said everything I wanted to say. Si is only the best tour guide in NZ! Transport, accommodation, day & night activities -- all were top-notch. I stayed in the group accommodation without upgrade and found it fantastic. Most relaxing holiday I've ever been on -- no pressure & Si's great advice, knowledge & experience to draw on. I forgot the PIN for my credit card (my only source of cash) and Si freely lent me his phone so I could call internationally & unlock my card. The staff at Haka Lodge's Christchurch branch are genuinely interested, caring & efficient. I received a phone interview for a job while on tour and didn't have a phone; Robyn & Ryan very generously lent me theirs and even though I didn't get the job, I'll always remember their kindness in my moment of need (especially when an earthquake happened in the middle of my interview!). I recently spent 4 weeks travelling and as part of this I did the 7 day South Island tour. I was considering planning and travelling around on my own but, quite simply put, going with Haka Tours was the best decision I could have made!

I have been on quite a few tours in the world but none of them have actually prompted me to leave feedback before. Everything about Haka Tours was excellent - signing up to the trip was clear and easy and the choice of options available were huge. While on tour there was absolutely no pressure to sign up to any more of them if I didn't want to (this didn't stop me though - so many fun things to do!). The ability to tailor the trip while on the road was also a great experience and really added to the enjoyment.

On top of this experience, all the accommodation used was top notch, the transportation was great and the small group size really made for an intimate and fun experience.

The best part of the trip, though, was our guide, Si. I cannot thank him enough for making it one of the best weeks of my life. His knowledge of New Zealand was excellent, he gave brilliant advice when asked about which activities were best suited to what I wanted out of the holiday (basically as many adrenalin fueled things as I could do) and his easy going manner meant that at no point did we feel rushed or pressured but at the same time still managed to fit more into a week than I thought was physically possible.

As a final point, for anyone who is still considering which tour company to go with, I am currently planning to return to NZ to do the North Island as soon as I can get work to agree time off. Needless to say, I will be using Haka Tours again.

So my second trip with Haka Tours ended a week ago and I haven't come down yet. Such a blissy, chilled-out time with great bus-mates, lots of stuff to jump off, stunning scenery, happy vibes and heaps of silliness. Huge and heartfelt thanks to all at Haka for ensuring that everyone has an unforgettable time in the Land of the Long White Cloud. You give the impression that you adore your homeland and are determined to make sure we come away feeling the same.

Major props to Robyn for cheerfully answering last-minute pre-tour questions when she should've been enjoying her New Year's Eve. And what praise could I possibly heap on Si that you haven't heard already? Outstanding guide, awesome travel companion, great photography tips, and a highly entertaining ability to recall what shoes we were all wearing on our hike to Cathedral Cove - five days later! Love it.

Lastly, thanks so much Ryan for creating a fantastic holiday experience. I don't believe your competitors could replicate the Haka atmos if they tried; it comes across as such a labour of love for everyone involved, and a bit of a family. I reckon no matter how good the product is, the success is all down to having amazing people behind the scenes. Huge thanks again to you all.

I went on the 24 day tour of New Zealand on 11/9 (with an add-on in Bay of Islands on my own), and I wanted to offer up my two cents.

The tour is basically as described (as in what to expect), but varies in the specifics. Depending on the group of individuals, it can tailor more or less to a particular groups' interests (skipping things or stopping places). This can be good or bad depending on if you clash with others in the group. Nothing's perfect. Just be flexible.

I split my time between dorm share and private rooms (upgrading on the trip whenever possible - and I HIGHLY suggest upgrading in River Valley if you go), and I know now that I am a private room type. I'm still glad I did the dorm share. Haka, I will say, is accommodating to personal activity/room requests. The activities are great, and if something does get cancelled (the more you book, the more likely a few things might not come to fruition - mostly weather related), the guide will tell you if there's another place to do the same activity. Otherwise you are refunded (if you pre-paid).

Overall I was very satisfied with the trip, and Haka's representation of itself was accurate. It was more relaxing to not have to worry about transporting myself constantly, and I feel I learned more about the country than I would have on another tour. It definitely stoked the fire (my passion) for travel.

Sweet as, man!

ONE OF MY BEST TRIPS EVER!!! Why? Well number one we had an awesome tour guide, the wonderful Si Leonard :) He was always there for us and ensured we got the best out of our trip every minute of the day. He listened to what we liked and took us of the beaten track to show us the real NZ. Truly a memorable guy, who introduced us to the real NZ! Secondly, what a beautiful country with so many activities. We got to tour a large part of such a gorgeous country in a short time with no stress in terms of having to organise anything and or deal with weather changes affecting plans. Great size group for a tour also; where you got to bond but you totally had the opportunity to take time out too! Big shout out to Tomo (whom Si introduced us to) and what an amazing fishing experience in Kaikoura - just do it peeps!! I have experienced a huge number of new adventures and have a new Gra (love) for NZ. Thirdly, massive shout out to all the people behind the scenes who made this trip so effortless. LOVE HAKA, LOVE NZ, Caroline (aka Alpaca) x

The Below review was sent by me directly to Haka Tours and summarized below after experiencing the best small group tour I have ever been on!

"I would like to congratulate your tour company on making my trip to New Zealand the best adventure to date. Great usage of Web Design and browsing capability along with efficient office staff (Robyn!) with timely replies and answers to both myself and my travel agent. Most notably, INCREDIBLE Tour Guide in Si Leonard. His knowledge of New Zealand and ability to connect with our group was amazing. Being a native, there were always great stories of the history, culture and personal experiences of his NZ life. He made every day fun beginning with his morning smile and greeting, to managing many personalities in our group of 16. Si spent more than his share of time with the group, even going above and beyond to ensure that each person enjoyed themselves. I cannot count how many times he answered the same question, re-arranged schedules for people in the group, called activity points to add/remove people, or called on companies to obtain information on an activity that someone in the group wanted to do (found in a Hostel brochure). His patience was relentless. He surprised us with unique stops that I'm sure the other tour groups don't do. I live in one of THE major tourist destinations in the world and easily understand how much work Si did behind the scenes.

I have worked in Sales/Marketing/Hospitality for 18 years. I spend much of my time working extensively in building relationships with customers. You have a great company, and THE BEST TOUR GUIDE I have ever had the pleasure of hanging out with (for 3 damn weeks - 11/9-11/30). I thank you Ryan for putting it all together; I know your success will continue for years to come.

This company is very good. Our guide was great and a Kiwi who knows the country. They know where to go and how to maximize your time and money to get the most out of the trip. They can take you to places off the beaten path that a large tour bus cannot take you. Our guide took us to a small off the beaten path beach he had not been to since he was a kid, so it really felt like we were experiencing something unique and personal. After days of terrible weather he took us to another unknown spot where there were wild seal pups. This was not a place a large tour would tell you about. This trip is all about stopping at local places and maximizing fun and money. Abseiling, caving, skydiving, bungee jumping, and heli skiing were just some of the stops. Watched some rugby games at the bar. You can't put a value on a local who knows how to navigate the country. You are at the mercy of the weather and you will have to adapt your schedule and planned activities no matter what and having a small group and a local showing you around is critical at those times.
Accommodations were hostels, but nearly everyone was of good quality. None were really bad, but one or two were just mediocre. This company has continued to change the places they stay based on their experiences to continue to give the best experience to their customers. I paid the extra for a single room which I was glad I did for my own space. Most of the time though my friends on tour that stayed in dorms all stayed in the same room and were rarely placed with strangers in their dorm. Sometimes they were even upgraded to single rooms if it was slow. If you want full service hotels this may not be the tour for you, but if you want to experience real New Zealand and have a nice clean place to sleep at night this is a great tour.
The greatest thing I took from my trip was learning about the Maori culture and how modern day New Zealand embraces and takes great pride in their Maori heritage.
Kia ora!

I was on the 24 Day epic tour, and Haka Tours didn’t disappoint; it was fantastic. Our guide, Si, was just awesome; despite the weather doing its best to scupper the tour Si was always able to find an alternative activity for us. When the weather was in our favour Si organised the day like a well-oiled machine to ensure everyone got the opportunity to do the activity they wanted to do. But it wasn’t all bungee jumping, sky diving and canyon swings. Haka Tours puts a strong emphasis on understanding the culture and seeing the natural beauty of New Zealand. The evening spent in Rotorua was a real eye opener, which was built upon with a visit to Te Papa in Wellington a few days later. The natural beauty of the west coast of the south Island, especially while kayaking in Abel Tasman, was breath taking. In the end there was only one problem; I never wanted to go home!

What can I say? Unbelievable, unforgettable tour experience. Our tour guide Si was knowledgeable, professional, and most of all, a ton of fun!! I went on the 16-day tour in September, which is the end of winter in New Zealand. Despite the terrible weather that plagued us throughout the trip, Si always knew what to do and did everything he could to make sure we accomplished everything we had come to New Zealand for. I was on a budget, so I really appreciated that nobody pushed me whatsoever to spend money I didn't have. Instead, Si always had a host of free options up his sleeve that I could do instead.

We had a group of seven, and, like me, every single person was traveling on their own. I was amazed at how Haka Tours seemed to attract the same kind of person--independent, adventurous, considerate people who love to travel. If you want a giant party tour bus, this is not the tour for you. Our group got to know each other really well, and leaving was almost heartbreaking. It was an amazing experience, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to visit New Zealand. I only wish they had similar tours in every other country.

Deciding initially what tour to sign up for was made easier by Haka Tours clear and easy to use website. There are a range of tours to choose from and plenty of options on offer to customise it to suit your adventure taste. Once you've picked and signed up they are in touch with you to welcome you aboard and answer any questions you might have, and provide info on things you might need specific to your chosen tour. Replies are always quick, informative and polite. Nothing is too much trouble. Airport shuttles were booked for me to and from the lodge, accommodation at the lodge and even nearby alternate accommodation when they were booked out. The Haka Lodge facilities are fantastic, clean, spacious, comfortable. Like a real home away from home. The staff have a laid back, friendly air about them while still maintaining quick and efficient service to their guests. The tours take you to places the guides have all experienced themselves. The guides offer funny stories, local knowledge and encouragement for you to explore offered at every stop (and everywhere in between). I would say it is the attitude of each member of the Haka Tours team (and it is evident they work as happy team) that separates this business from other tour operations, we could all find our way to a beautiful vista in NZ, but like most things, its the journey as much as the destination, and I wholeheartedly recommend Haka Tours to get you there the best way they know how, with a smile.

How can I put into words my month in NZ & the trip of a lifetime that I can only thank Haka Tours for.

From the planning stage where I must have asked them countless questions & even the trivial ones where answered politely, helpfully & in great detail.

The trip itself was awesome & I guess the 1500 photos I took on that trip bears that out. The guide Verve, is the best advertisement for the pride & knowledge the Kiwis have in their great country. I could fault him or the Haka Tours team back in Christchurch HQ, in any way.

The biggest compliment I can pay is that I intend to comeback soon, only this time I will not be buying a return ticket.

Haka Tours made my dream trip to New Zealand better than I'd imagined. Fast paced, secret spots, insider info, offroad, onroad, nonstop, embrace the moment, live the dream, learn the Haka, feel the NZ culture, the pride, the passion, the bars, the hostel, the beers, the food, the photos more photos and even more photos, the memories, the hot water pools, the puzzles, the bungee, the skydive, the caves, the beaches, the Mauri, the eye watering views, the care, the friends, the uniting of nations in one place, to share, the laugh, to savour.

Haka Tours (Si, Verve) went the extra mile each minute of each day to give everyone something special in their trip visiting NZ. For this I will always be thankful and my dream of NZ finally came true. What an adventure. What a great tour - you won't find better.

Haka Tours is quite simply what makes travelling New Zealand so amazing. The tour guides are always up for a laugh with you and go out of their way to show you the most of the country they love. Their passion for New Zealand is abudent from the start and is very infectious. The tour group I was with had a large age range on the bus but everyone got on really well, mainly thanks our tour guide verve. The choice of activities that are available to you are immense, and again the tour guide will tell you which are the best to do. I booked on a half day glacier walk but upgraded to a full day walk on the advice of Verve, and it remains one of the best things I have ever done. I know I would have regretted not doing the full day. Listen to these guys, having done the activities themselves, they know what they are on about. The buses are clean, comfy and reliable and the accommodation Is excellent. The longer itenerairy makes for a more relaxing , and yet still action packed, trip around Zealand, and even though you spend a lot of time on the bus it goes quickly cause of the awesome people you meet. I truely believe that Haka Tours is the best way by miles to see New Zealand and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.

I went on the 16 day tour, and it was amazing. Truly the best way to see New Zealand in a short space of time. Our guide, Verve, helped us to bond early as a group and by the time it was over I felt I had known my tour group for years, not just days! Its a brilliant hassle free experience, if you want to do an activity, Verve would go out of his way to try and enable you to do it, even at the last minute. There are so many different experiences packed in to the 16 days its unbelievable, I wouldn't have even done half the stuff I did if I had tried to book it all myself. So it was easier, less hassle and better than sorting it out on my own! You can't ask for more than that! I would recommend Haka Tours to everyone of all ages!

Our guide was absolutely wonderful, well actually, our two guides were. We about halfway through the tour, another guide took over, but both were wonderful and knowledgeable. They were really friendly and were people who could've easily been your best friend! Some may like that, others may prefer having a professional guide that wouldn't speak to you outside of the bus, but I prefer a guide that's willing to speak to you as a friend.

Went on a 7 day snow tour with Haka Tours a couple of years ago for my first ever trip to NZ and it blew me away. The group was excellent, the tour guide was loads of fun and really knowledgeable, and the snow and natural beauty of the south island was absolutely amazing! Now heading back for my second trip to NZ south island and didn't even bother looking anywhere else, just went straight to Haka Tours again. Recommend them to everyone!

My trip to New Zealand with Haka Tours was by far one of the best trips I have ever taken. Our tour guide Si Leonard took my friends and I around the South Island, the experience that we had in New Zealand could never be replicated if we went with any other tour company. Haka tours lets you experience New Zealand in your own way, they never rush you or drag you along, they allow flexibility to do the things you want to do.

I had a very enjoyable time in New Zealand with Haka Tours. Our guide, Si, was really knowledgeable about all of the locations that we went to and let us do our own thing, while keeping to a tight schedule. It was absolutely awesome going on this trip with all of my friends, and such a blast going through all of the small towns that gave us a real view of how New Zealanders live!

We were shown such beautiful scenery and given the opportunity to do some amazing things. The tour went smoothly with absolutely no hiccups which is impressive considering I was leading a group of twenty 16 year olds. The Haka tour guide, Si Leonard, was very professional and amiable and got along very well with my group of kids. The bus suited our needs perfectly and the accommodations were clean, comfortable and appropriate for our group. I give Haka Tours a thumbs up!

I'm so glad I chanced upon the Haka Lodge / Haka Tours website. It was meant to be... as I can't even recall how I come across it... 100% Pure New Zealand website maybe?

Anyway, it was heaven-sent as I had trouble getting our accommodations at Christchurch booked prior to arrival as most of the places are shut down due to earth quakes. So imagine my satisfaction when i finally found a place that's open in Christchurch, and a very good one at that =)

From wanting to just book accommodations for a night or two, I ended up customizing a 14-day trip with Haka Tours. Thanks Robyn for all the help tendered, Ryan for starting up the entire Haka Tours legacy (haha) and of course our tour manager, Burto for ensuring all 8 of us have a great time!! Not just at Christchurch, but all over South Island (Christchurch - Lake Tekapo - Dunedin - Te Anau - Milford Sound - Queenstown - Wanaka - Franz Josef - Greymouth - Christchurch).

Totally recommended!
Do give it a try, you won't regret (^_^b)

What an amazing experience I just had with Haka Tours. Who knew that there was so much to see & do in just 25 days. With our private/uni tour with Haka, we were able to experience both islands to the fullest. Everywhere we went involved a new experience and something more beautiful to see. Our guide was fun and knowledgeable (key for students!), and was able to provide more than just a tour.
Thanks so much Ryan, Robyn & Burto for an amazing experience in New Zealand! I'll definitely be back in the future!

I'm stunned by the number of places and the amount of things i managed to do while on tour with Haka. Verve was our guide and he showed us places that we would not have seen otherwise. He also had a way of revealing to us the true kiwi spirit - I felt completely immersed into the Aotearoa culture.

I'm so grateful to the organizers of this tour because the work they did is tremendous: it takes skill & coordination to organize so many awesome activities in the time-frame provided.

I loved every moment of the trip (ok, there were seconds when i felt bummed but that only happened because some activity would get cancelled because of the weather :); but Verve was awesome to inform us of the same activity that we could do in a different location. He is also hilarious which helps when on the road for a few hours at a time.

I wholeheartedly recommend Haka for your NZ exploration: I can't imagine doing a trip like this in a huge -50 people - bus! Our little bus (who of course had a name - Murray) - was so good to us. For me, this trip wasn't only about the sights/activities but about the spirit of the people (and Murray of course :), the land, the trees...everything had soul over there...

I felt very sad to leave all that behind but am eternally grateful for experiencing it.

Thank you Verve!!!!
and thank you Robyn!!!!!!!

I am happy to say that our visit to New Zealand was well planned: pre-traveling arrangements were accommodated from the assigned travel coordinator,Robyn, who perfectly and kindly addressed our travel needs. Verve, our tour guide did just the same. He was a fun, fun, fun travel companion who had mastery of what he was doing plus making us feel at home and thus adding to the fun. Haka Tours and Si Leonard, our guide, we're exraordinary in the course of a 16 Day tour of NZ, just completed. The logistics worked faultlessly, Si was incredibly attentive to the different priorities of the various members of our group and at the same time transmitted an infectious enthusiasm for NZ, it's people, history, landscapes, food and of course the various adventure activities. Our group was very varied and ranged from 18 to 47 in age and we all felt catered for and cared for. Nothing was too much trouble for Si. I could not recommend Haka Tours more highly for anyone wanting to see NZ (in my case for the first time) in a fun, enthusiastic and flexible way. All the activities offered were optional and no-one was ever put under any pressure to undertake an "extreme" activity if he or she did not want to. Our group included all levels of adventurousness. This is the perfect way to get to know a fantastic country.

Went on the Irish Tour for the rugby world cup 2011... The tour was simply outstanding!!! Mike (our tour-guide) took us around NZ and on match-day dropped us to the door (quite literally) of each stadium where Ireland played.. Some of the activities that were done on tour were.. horse-trekking, bungee jumping, sky-diving, ski-ing, bone carving and also we were taken to some hidden areas where not many people knew about, which was a bonus.... Mike was very informative and was more like a best-mate than a tour guide which helped making the tour very enjoyable... and when the tour was finished they had organised accommodation for me for wellington.. (where the quarter-final was played) and also got me a ticket!!! So I would recommend anyone who is going to see around NZ to go with HAKA TOURS... 11/10 is the score this group deserves... 1st class...

Receently visited New Zealand for the world cup and booked with Haka Tours for the trip.

Wow what an experience!

They were fantastic. Our guide Verve was just the best, there didn't seem to be anything that he didn't know about his country and this knowledge made such a difference to first time visitors like ourselves.

We went on a hike in the Abel Tasman national park and were capivated by the beauty of our surroundings. We did so much during our two week tour and I am abosolutely certain we could not have seen so much by ourselves. Our guide even managed to get us tickets for the quarter final match between Wales and Ireland, this was so very much appreciated as we were unable to obtain them prior leaving the UK. Also we were able to get tickets for the semi final and Verve arranged an extra nights accommodation in Aukland so that we could go to the match. Brilliant!

I would not hesitate to recommend Haka Tours to anyone.

What ensued was three weeks of amazing experiences and constant adventures. Our guides Burto and Verve went above and beyond to ensure that every person on tour was having the best possible time at pretty much every waking moment. Their knowledge and banter, combined with their ability to join in on the action, felt like we were being shown the country by a couple of close mates. You can't beat that. I don't think there's a better way to see New Zealand for the first time (or second, I'll be planning a snow trip with Haka next time!) and with only 3 other people on the bus to start it couldn't have felt more like a road trip. Verve, Si and Mikey were all good fun and knew so much about the country (more than I know about my own) but they were definitely part of the group and not just guides. It was great being the first group to stay at the Haka Lodge, it felt like home!

I feel lucky to have been able to see so many amazing sights in only 20 days, every one of countless roadside stops for photos meant an opportunity to make people jealous. Going from rolling green hills to snow-topped mountains to rainforest in under 3 hours of driving is incredible. It was great having someone who knew the hidden spots and who'd experienced all of the adrenaline-fuelled activities to give a little bit of insight (glad I didn't just do the regular seated position for the Nevis Arc, thanks Verve!).

I have travelled with tour companies in the past and I can honestly say that I had the best time with Haka Tours. A friend recommended the company and I have already been raving about Haka to all my friends so hopefully one day they will sign up and experience the awesome time that I have just had. I definitely think that small group travel is the way to go!

Ellen's organisation and efficiency in the lead up to the tour was excellent and I felt that no matter how silly my question her replies were always speedy and helpful!

Verve was the most AMAZING tour guide. He was a guide, friend, big brother, counsellor, adrenaline junkie all rolled into one. You could really tell that he just wanted everyone to have an amazing time. It was great how he would gently encourage people to push their boundaries and live the experience to the max. I know I found myself jumping off / out of things that I hadn't imagined I would do! His flexibility and organisation also resulted in everything running smoothly and in the three weeks there wasn't a single moment where we weren't having a fab time!

I finished my 24 day epic tour in March and it was AMAZING! It was everything I was looking for, right from the start ‘till the very end! . Lots of credits for Ellen, always answering my questions really fast and providing me of loads of information so I was well prepared  This also helped making decisions on what activities to (pre)book....that’s the only ‘bad’ thing about NZ and Haka...there are too many fantastic things you can do !
The group was great, meeting lot of other people and I’m sure I’ll catch up with some of them. I had an amazing time being shown round New Zealand by Verve, the most passionate (and funny) tour guide I’ve ever seen. He takes you to the ‘must see’ attractions, but also a lot of surprises that makes the trip unforgettable. He made sure there was always something going on, and that if you weren't doing an activities that day, he would find something else for you to do. I pre-booked a few options (the things a really really wanted to do) and heaps of other stuff was added along the tour. The dolphin swimming, heli-mountainbiking, white water rafting and Skydive in AT National Park are amazing experiences and I would highly recommend HAKA tours to everyone.

If you've ever travelled with a big brand travel company and HATED the experience... you're gonna LOVE this! Haka Tours is not about making you another number but recognizes that their small groups are about the people. Like a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book you work with your Tour Manager and fellow travellers to custom design your adventure! Personally I wanted to skydive but was nervous about it - they became my very own cheering squad and I likewise for them. With Haka you don't just walk away with great stories but with great friends and a total sense of self-fullfillment and pride. What more could you ask for? I cannot wait to get back to Aotearoa and do another tour with Haka... my eye is FIRMLY on the South Island next time!

Tour Manager, Si, is just Kiwi As. He encouraged, pushed, and supported every adventure, idea or Bucket List goal our group designed. He was EVERYTHING you want a Tour Guide to be... flexible, knowledgeable and a great guy!

Ellen & Ryan in the Haka Office were super customer service focused and every email, phonecall, etc was super enthused, super excited and super positive. Where do I sign up?

I have just finished the 16 Day Tour from Auckland to Christchurch, and had the most amazing time of my life ! I was a young (18) solo traveller, and so was unsure of how I would mingle with the rest of the group. But our tour guide Verve, pulled us all together and made sure we all got on from the moment we met. The tour pretty much covers all the places you want to see in NewZealand, plus it visits some other 'surprises' along the way. Verve made sure there was always something going on, and that if you weren't doing any of the many activities that day, he would find something else for you to do. There are heaps of activities to do, of which you can pre-book them before you go on tour. However Verve gives you the flexibility to wait until you arrive on tour, and then pick your activities, and keeps a running tab of what you've done, and you just pay and the end of the tour. I would highly reccommend this tour to anyone who wants to see an amazing country, with a fantastic tour guide. From the first point of contact with Ellen in the office, to meeting Verve and Murray (our bus), to some outstanding scenery, the tour was absolutely unbelievable. It was sweet as.....

Hey there, it's Linh, and I was also on the 16 day tour from the 21st February to 8th March 2011.

The beauty of Haka Tours is how they manage to create tours that highlight the best parts of NZ, while keeping everyone happy (as well as accommodating those times where you don't feel like doing anything), and Verve's spontaneity which makes all the difference. Ellen was helpful with my enquiries, and her efforts to find us alternative accommodation at short notice were really appreciated. Verve turned out to have the perfect balance between a guide and a friend, oh, and did I mention he saved my life at Hot Water Beach?

Also, because the group is smaller, it's easier to make friends and get to know them personally, even if you don't think you will at first. It's wonderful when it happens though.

A bit of unsolicited advice:
- It's easier to pre-book some activities (just so you don't have to worry about the expenses later), but Verve keeps a running tab if you want to just add on along the way (he's flexible like that). Don’t forget souvenirs.
- For the love of god bring your ipod, you can take turns playing your tunes. Just try not to have a playlist with anything too offensive, it'll just be awkward.
- Best places to sit are at the front, and middle, where you can eavesdrop on Verve's interesting convos. It's a good idea to change seats sometimes, and buying snacks to share is a good icebreaker too.
- Participate as much as you can in the group activities, it really helps the group dynamics.
- Bring a decent camera and extra lithium battery, as you'll want to take hundreds of photos and upload them to facebook asap. I've personally only taken 700 on this trip alone.
- Oh, and there's a certain word you should be careful of saying, but I'll let you find that out on the tour... heh heh.

All in all, it wasn't a run of the mill tour, it was a life changing experience, and, can I just say for one last time, it was sweet as bro.

Just got home from my life changing experience with Haka Tours. I went on the 16 Amplified tour with my friend Linh to experience the culture and enjoy the natural surroundings but what i got back was more than I imagined.

For a person that can't swim, afraid of heights and can't drive, I pushed passed my comfort zone by doing bungy jumping, skydiving, kayaking, jumping into a lake from a small cliff (under the careful eye of Verve, our tour guide of course) and driving a quad bike.

The people you meet and bond with is what makes the tour so special. We encourage one another in the activities that we do and look out for each other when things do not go to plan. I have met people that I would love to catch up with in the future and their insight on how they see the world has really broaden my mind.

Verve went above and beyond, with the hiccups that came along his way due to the aftermath of the earthquake. Our group was a bit bigger than normal with 18 people on the bus, yet he was able to schedule everyone in for all their activities/requests and gave some extra surprises along the way, which is very impressive!! He has a good knowledge of what is available in various areas of New Zealand and at no point did i felt that our tour was interrupted as he quickly finds alternative activities for us to do. Just got done with a 7 day tour of the North Island. Wish I could have stayed for the 16 or the 24! The trip itself was amazing, and our guide Verve was sick! We got to see a lot of stuff off of the main road that we most definitely wouldn't have seen otherwise. We had people on other tours at a hostel we stayed at commenting on how awesome our guide was. No joke. Verve was awesome in his recommendations, he wasn't shy about what he thought about a certain activity, or getting us to go do something we wouldn't otherwise do. I would and have already recommended this trip to friends, and anyone who wants to step outside the box and have the trip of a lifetime!

I did a 16 day tour from Christchurch to Auckland and had the time of my life! We had an excellent tour guide (Si) who brought us all over the place and made sure we had a diverse, exciting, fun trip. Before the tour, whenever I had any questions or needed help with anything, Ellen was always ready to help and it never took long before she responded to e-mails. That was a pleasant surprise for me as I've had bad experiences with other tour groups in the past when it comes to customer service.
Those 16 days on the road with Betsy the van, Si and a number of other beautiful people from all over the world were fantastic! Not only did I get to see a lot of New Zealand and do all kinds of crazy stuff I never thought I'd do (such as bungy jumping), but I also made some really really good friends that I hope I'll keep for life. Some of us have already made plans to meet again, flight's booked and all:)
Thank you, Haka Tours!

Just returned from 16 day tour of North and South Islands.

Haka Tours surpassed all of my expectations. So well organised from booking through to the tour itself. Extensive range of activities and very flexible to change or add, even at the last minute. Even on free days, there were so many ideas for things to do; there was never a dull moment. Very personal level of service with quick responses to all of my queries.

Great guide (Verve) with incredible knowledge of the country and all the activities. His enthusiasm never faltered and he inspired us all to push ourselves out of our comfort zone, but definitely no pressure to join anything unless you wanted to. He ensured the team bonded very quickly and provided us with some incredible BBQs!

All drives were broken up with some great stops, chances to take pictures, jump off a cliff, swing from a tree or swim in a lake. A great chance to be taken off the usual tourist route.

This was my first trip alone, but I felt like I was with old friends from day one. My tour group was a nice size (11) and this meant we really got to know each other well.

I’ve made friends for life on this trip and explored the most amazing country. I have already recommended Haka Tours to friends and will continue to do so. I’ll never forget my 3 weeks of heaven. The best way to spend 3 weeks I could ever have hoped for. I only wish that Haka Tours operated in other countries!!

It's an incredible feeling going to bed every night thinking about the amazing experiences you had that day and knowing that you get to did it all over again the next day. Haka Tours provides these amazing experiences, which you'll take with you back to your home country and remember for years to come.

Just returned from the 16-days amplified tour that covers NZ north and south islands. I must say this is the best trip I ever had! The trip's activities are highly customisable and flexible giving us the opportunity to do what we like and share what others have experienced.

Verve is an exceptional guide who is passionate, knowledgeable, personal, creative and definitely fun to be with. He is just like our concierge who will arrange everything you wish! If the weather does not permit your activity, Verve knows just which town to find a replacement and who to go with. Thumbs up! The tour mates are great and we had loads of good fun!

Haka Tour support is also exceptional with Ellen who is very prompt and personal. I'm loving Haka before my trip and loving it even more after my trip. When I'm back again, Haka will be my choice without mistake!

I recently completed the 16-day amplified NZ tour with Haka Tours. It was the best vacation I have ever been on. I loved traveling with my small group of five people in a roomy van. The driving was perfect, we got to see a lot of the North and South Islands without having to drive too much. Both of my tour guides, Verve and Si were very friendly and knowledgeable on everything New Zealand. There were so many great adventure experiences to chose from. I loved skydiving, bungy jumping, the canyon swing, and sledging the best. I would defiantly recommend this to a friend.

I recently completed the 16 day amplified tour around NZ and it was an amazing experience. The group size was ideal. A much more friendly, personal experience than other larger tours I have been on. Our guide, Si, was a fountain of NZ knowlwdge and often took us to many 'off the beaten track' places that meant we had some great surprises along the way! He gave us loads of advice and pointedus in the right direction when we were looking to book activities etc which meant we all got the best out of the tour.
The company is very well organised and very helpful sorting out extras such as transport and accommodation before and after the tour.
I will definitely be recommending Haka tours to friends who are considering travelling around NZ. It is the best way to see a lot of such a beautiful country.

I did the 24 day tour around New Zealand's north and south islands with Haka tours and had the experience of a lifetime. The size of the tour groups is a lot smaller than other companies (6-10) which makes for a far more personalised tour experience. It's far more than a hop-on hop-off bus service and the guides do everything they can to accommodate exactly what you want to do into the tour.

Our guide, Verve, was absolutely fantastic: he knew all the best spots in New Zealand to take us to and some of the activities such as bridge jumping which he allowed us to do made for the best times on tour. Verve also gave us surfing lessons off his own back (at no cost to us), which is another example of the calibre of guide he is.

Your enjoyment on a NZ tour will be mainly dependent on the tour guide and the other people you are with - Haka tours is unbeatable for both.

Just recently completed a 16 day tour with Si as our tour leader. Loved every moment of the experience and would be very willing to partake in other Haka tours (eg, snow) in the future.

Everything about the tour was fantastic. The route taken considered some amazing sights and experiences which we would encounter every day. When the group thought something would be fun (for example stopping and climbing a snow hill / have a snow fight), we were allowed to stop and enjoy it. The ability to customize your experience and actually do what you want was a highlight of Haka's great services.

Si was a fun and knowledgeable tour leader, which I believe offered an extra level of awesome to the trip. The accommodation chosen was also great, with all places having fantastic views, facilities, etc.

I will definitely be recommending Haka tours to my friends, and I KNOW that they are likely to experience as amazing trips as I did.

My 26 day trip with Haka Tours was undoubtedly the highlight of my trip round the world!
If your looking for a tour that makes sure you see the real New Zealand with all it's beauty and charm whilst also having a shed load of fun then this is it.
Everyday you visit new stunning locations and have fun challenging yourself on a wide variety of extreme sports and activities. Not only that, but unlike other tour companies I'd experienced you really feel looked after. The tour guides are very knowledgable and passionate about what they do, and go out of their way to show you NZ at its best.
I left New Zealand with many memories of absolutely beautiful scenary (mountains, volcanos, lakes, beaches - you name it NZ's got the best of them); having accomplished things I never thought I would do i.e. a sky-dive over Lake Taupo (something I'll never forget!) and last but not least with some life-long friends - something I'd not experienced on any other tours during my travels.
Since my trip 2 years ago I've recommended Haka Tours to friends and they have all had the same amazing experience I had. Do it, you wont regret it!!

I did the 16 day tour, from Auckland to Christchurch and it was the best trip of my life! I loved every second and would recommend it to anybody. Haka Tours picked the most beautiful places to visit and there wasn’t a day when we weren't overwhelmed by the views. Verve (our tour guide) provided us with his vast knowledge of the country, and kept us amused on long drives. Each day's drive time was between 1 and 5 hours, and all drives were broken up by stops at scenic views, playgrounds or beaches so we could stretch our legs and have a play.

Each day was crammed full of activities and fun, there was never a dull moment. We stopped off at some amazing places that the average tourist wouldn’t know about, such as a night time trip to a naturally heated river. The activities that you can pick are all really fun and fit well into the course of a day. My favourite activities were walking the Tongariro crossing (a beautiful 19.4km hike across mountains), the full day glacier hike at Franz Josef and swimming with Dolphins in Kaikoura. All were truly amazing experiences.

If you want to spend a 2-3 weeks travelling a stunning country, with amazing people and hundreds of things to do then pick Haka Tours, it was honestly the best trip of my life – I will never forget it!!

This has to have been one of the bext holidays off my life and one I hope to repeat as soon as possible!!
The country is so beautiful, but what really made the trip was Steve's (less of a tour guide, more of a mate) personal knowledge of both islands and all of the off-the-beaten track places to visit, including a thermally heated pool at the bottom of a waterfall in the middle of nowhere, as well as a little pathway off of a coastal road which leads up to another waterfall where seal pups were playing!
Although the rough route around both islands was planned in advance, the actual day to day activities of the trip were tailored so that everyone got a chance to try different experiences. I would recommend Haka Tours to anyone who's looking for a tailor-made break involving mind-blowing adventures and hauntingly beautiful scenery. Not to mention a hell of a lot of laughs along the way!

the experience that haka tours gave me was so amazing, i can honestly proclaim it was THE BEST holiday experience of my life. the pace of the trip was superb, averaging 1-2 activities a day so that one gets his/her adrenaline fix while not getting too tired. i was on the 9 day tour which included the north and south islands, and oh i wish i had done a longer tour! from staying on a farm, a boat (the aquapackers!!!), next to the sea, all the accomodations were interesting and very authentic. not to mention the wonderful activties we could include along the way... sky diving, bungy and white water rafting just to name a few. of course, a great part of the success of the tour was due to the crazy awesome Verve, our tour guide, who knew New Zealand from leaf to bark to river, and could detailedly illustrate the histories and stories behind every single place we visited, like he had lived there since the Maori times! i would highly, highly reconmend haka tours to anyone who wants an amazing trip for a more-than reasonable price. i will DEFINITELY be going for a Haka tour again in the future!

Had a great time on the 9 Day North Island tour with Verve. Got to do so many things, and explore a bit of the north island. Overall, i couldn't have asked for more from a tour group.

Highlights of my trip were quad biking near Taupo, and, whitewater rafting in the River Valley. The Grade5 whitewater rafting was canceled because of highwater levels, but i got to do a Grade2-3 section of the river in an inflatable kayak. That was pretty hardcore as it was something i've never done before, and, as you can see, lived to tell about it. Guides in this country for some of these extreme activities are really good, and you feel pretty confident doing some of these activities. Sledging was a blast too.

Verve was a choice guide. Loved his country, and wanted to share it with everyone. He made the 9 days fly by - i wished i could have stayed longer with my group as they headed to the South Island. Unlike other tours i've been on, the group sizes are smaller, and the hostels are nicer, so you get a 'well kept' feeling from the tour. Also, Verve was real great about ensuring you got to places when you needed to be there, and really maxing out your experience by suggesting things that he thought were good, and recommending places to see. Also, he got us into a Rugby Leauge game, Kiwis vs. Tongo. How cool is that?

Anyways, i would have no hesitation to go with Haka again - made my time in NZ an experience that i won't forget. I now 'need' to come back and see the South Island!!

I did the usual trawling of the internet prior to my trip to New Zealand and struggled with the dilemma of wanting to do it all but not having a great amount of time to see everything. Haka Tours was the perfect solution for someone who wants to have their cake and to eat it too! You can choose to do as much or as little as you want rather then getting frustrated as is often the case with other tours I have been on when you book onto a trip and find yourself having to go along to activities which you wouldn't have chosen to do ordinarily and missing out on other things you'd much rather have done. Having the opportunity to tailor make a trip to suit my own needs and wants let me get exactly what I wanted to out of my holiday and is a brilliant idea - I don't know why more tour operators haven't cottoned onto this - it's genius!!
I chose to do the the 16 day tour in March and it was the best decision I have ever made. The tour was simply incredible and I would encourage anyone who has the opportunity to book on to it to do it!
My tour guide was Si who has such a passion and knowledge for everything New Zealand its infectious! He took us to so many little hidden treasures away from the usual tourist hotspots that I felt like I had been let in on a secret. The tour was well organised and all I had to think about each day was deciding on which of the many amazing activities I wanted to do that day! I found myself doing and experiencing things I had never even thought about before and it's such an amazing feeling. I have a lot to thank Haka Tours for and having had such an amazing first trip, I wasted no time in booking my second trip taking full advantage of the nifty discount offer repeat customers receive - it just gets better!Thank You Haka Team, You Rock!!

Well what can I say that hasnt been said in the other reviews, simply the best time of my life was on this tour! We had Steve as a tour guide although most of the time he felt part of the group and we were all on one massive road trip together! Anything you want to do they will find a way to make it happen! There was only 9 of us on the tour which was amazing, we all really got to know each other and there were so many laughs along the way!

During my tour I free fell 8.7km through a combination of bungy jumps and sky dives, all arranged by Steve! I also went snowboarding which Steve and Ellen managed to arrange in less than 12 hours notice, that was just amazing! I dont have a bad word to say about the company, they are all friendly and will always try to help you out and be genuinely interested in what you do and where you are from! I told Ellen via email that I had a long time in Auckland before the trip and she organized another trip for me to visit the bay of islands for 3 nights which was also amazing!

This tour was definitely the best way to see the country! With Steves intimate knowledge of his own country we saw the best bits and the odd bits that you would only see on a tour of this type with someone who knows! I could literally wax lyrical all day about my tour and how much fun it was! If I haven't convinced you here get in touch with haka and they will put you in touch with me and I can go into more detail! Dont think about any other company if you want to see new zealand, you simply cant get better than this!

This is simply the best tour i have ever been on ! ever! been traveling for 4 months now and the best time of my life was on this tour. Si our tour guide was wicked, always went out of his way and would always socialise with everyone even after he stopped workng. The experience is breathtaking, the activities are off the scale, and the best bit is the size of the tour. small groups, its kept personal, and the little suprises inbetween journeys where always something to look forward too. These places where never seen by kiwi experience, stray travel, magic etc.
DO NOT BOOK WITH KIWI EXPERIENCE!! BOOK WITH HAKA TOURS!! it will be worth it.
Thanks again

Matt and Terri.
16 day auckland to christchurch.

P.S. if you decide to see the franz joseph glacier, fork out the extra for the heli tour. its soo soo worth it!

I went on the 7 day South Island tour, which is perfect if you're short on time. I had the most amazing time, with a factastic tour guide (Si) and some really cool tour members! I did some amazing things that I never dreamed I could do, in particular skydiving in Queenstown and the Shotover Canyon Swing (not for the faint-hearted tho!). The whole experience was actually life changing; and I'm now in the process of relocating to New Zealand!!

Went on the 26 day tour in Oct'07, as part of a 10 week tour of NZ and had and awesome time. I loved every minute of it!!

I loved the fact that it was a small group as we all got on so well , especially as you end up doing some crazy stunts together...you bond pretty quickly! :D its like a little travelling family haha.

We saw so many brilliant things and another thing that I loved about the fact that it was a small tour , was that if we saw something at the side of the road that we wanted to go and check out, then we pretty much could. It made it feel so much more personal and like you were seeing stuff no-one else had seen :)
What can i say about the tour guide...haha hes a frikkin legend! Steve was an absolute diamond, always kept everybodys spirits up, was a great laugh and so full of life, you cant help but feel positive when your around him , hes just the nicest bloke..and just what you need in a tourguide when you are travelling around the worlds best outdoor playground :D

If you like having fun , arent too fussed about a strict itinery (you never know what could happen haha), like meeting brill people and trying new things..its definately the tour for you. I could go on forever about how much i loved that tour and new zealand and how i cant wait to go back....but i wont... get out there, book on a tour and have the best frikkin time you've had in ages!

I'd highly recommend Haka Tours. I preferred their more intimate group situation where you travelled with a set group. The hop on hop off bus networks of Kiwi Experience/Magic Bus didn't appeal to me as I wanted to keep it hassle free and was happy that I had the same guide taking me the whole journey. Plus the early 20's crowd on those networks could grate a bit!! You do have to take the rough with the smooth on this sort of trip with whatever group you are with. So any personality clashes will have to be managed well!

Steve Latham, my guide, was a real Kiwi with a great zest for life and a love of his country and all you could do there. He made a great effort to keep everybody's spirits up throughout. A great example of someone who knows what it is to be alive and enjoy your time on this planet!!

Don't get too hung up on itinery's as there is a very laid back vibe to Haka Tours. On occasions Steve would make the tour work for him but for someone who had been on the road constantly for months I could forgive any breathers he stole here and there (usually for a surf by the way)! At the end of the day we got in pretty much everything we set out to do bar weather or compelling events causing us not too!!

Steve took great pleasure in finding his little gems of NZ that other companies missed. Some highlights were Te Nikau retreat on the South Island near Punakaiki..really chilled great little place and a monster party we had. A midnight dip in a thermal pool near Taupo! Showing us a seal nursery that went all the way inland up into a stream from the beach. Staying at Taupo Urban retreat- like Coyote Ugly but with Irish guys ha!!

One thing we fed back was the breakfast included problems. This was a bit of a farce and everyone thought they might as well take that out of the offering as it wasn't one of Steve's better organised responsibilities. All in all a cherished experience with some amazing moments/times that will stay with me forever!

This is absolutely the best tour in NZ. You get the group experience on a personal level. I was in a group of 10 people, and Si was the group leader. He knew so much about the country and took us to hidden NZ places that tourists don't even go to. We had everything from the active, extreme NZ experience, to the beauty and amazing scenic views. Haka looked after you from start to finish and really made you feel that you weren't another number. The tours were extremely well planned, very good value for money, excellent staff, one to one service, and definitely fun. I met other people out there on different tours and they all said that they wished they had gone with Haka tours. It isn't like the rest, where they put you on a bus and some other person picks you up in 4days, if you are lucky enough to get a seat on a coach. This is how anyone would want to do NZ. I can't say enough good things about the company and encourage you all to book with them. Thank you Haka - you completely deserve a 10/10 review and I can speak on behalf of everyone else in my group xx
