Great, cheap, local hot springs in Ngawha, Northland. Great choice of temperatures and pools. Note: remove all jewellery - will tarnish silver. Wear an old swimsuit, the smells hang around for days, other than that, a great hidden spot.
For $4 per person, we had a really nice evening in the hot pools with different temperatures from cold to extremely hot. Furthermore the mud was good for your skin and it was nice to talk with the locals.

An awesome off the beaten path experience.

Naelan Le Borgue
Really cheap, $4, and relaxing, a great place to meet locals and enjoy a warm bath, but you stink of rotten eggs for a long time afterward.
Only $4, really great, not so popular, not too touristy, pools authentic and typically kiwi. But no showers and we seek after that!
Pretty cheap with $5PP. But it was not very clean and hard to reach. The hot pools were great but the location was pretty ugly and dirty.
Hot spring pools in use for 700+ years... and little changed. Spiritually fulfilling.
Cheap at $3 and really relaxing.
Natural, local mud pools, Students pay $3 only. 12 baths available. Very smelly!
Rotorua Thermal springs eat your heart out! ... Ngawha Springs is the real deal ... authentic, natural and the 'real deal'
A more natural (real mineral mud!), invigorating and value for money option that Rotorua's rather sterile spa baths.
My fav hot pools in New Zealand. Genuine kiwi hospitality and lots of northland characters to talk to when in the pools. The waters are supposed to be full of minerals and plenty of the oldies I met there swear by its healing properties. From treating skin conditions to helping eyesite. I just loved the choice of 8 different pools, combined with the interesting company. With an entry price of $5 for the whole day (you can return later on and use the same ticket), Ngawha Springs are all good.
