The Cruzy Campers experience has been perfect from the first email contact.
They are very reactive, always attentive and striving to make our trip perfect. and it was!
They even wrote us to warn us of a strong storm (and thank goodness, because we did not know it and thanks to them we were able to change the route in time).
We had a little problem the first day, and they solved it right away. There was only one thing to move from the car but we don't know anything about mechanics or cars, so they explained it to us very easily.
Before the trip we had a lot of problems with the dates of our trip and they were always understandable and flexible, adapting to us.
The van was very comfortable and well thought out.
It has been a great experience.

Excellent service; very friendly, prompt, personalised and attentive. Very quick and efficient response when we experienced difficulties; washing of curtains, polish of fridge front (ie titivating) would have improved initial impression; suggest adding a folding stool to equipment to aid passenger entry to rear of vehicle

A well maintained and equipped vehicle which did everything we asked of it, probably as well as it’s flasher and more expensive competitors. More importantly, lovely people to deal with.

Loved dealing with Kylie and Dan. We were unsure of what to expect from a smaller privately owned operation, but it was definitely the right choice. The van was clean, and really well-equipped with everything we needed, including sheets, & towels, camp chairs etc and nothing was an "extra". It ran perfectly, and gave no issues whatsoever. We had a great time (pay attention to the weather forecasts) and these vans are just the right size for NZ roads. Thanks so much Kylie & Dan, for a great holiday.

I hired a year 2000 Toyota Hiace petrol manual campervan from Cruzy Campers to travel around parts of the South Island from the 28th December 2019 to 10th January 2020. The hire cost was NZD$1,960 and the cost of the 351 litres of unleaded petrol I used to travel 3,020km was NZD$761.23. This gave the Hiace an 11.65 litres/100km efficiency. The cost of 91 unleaded petrol ranged from NZD$2.02/l (Christchurch) to NZD$2.459 (in Queenstown!) with an average cost of NZD$2.17/l.

Daniel was great - he delivered the van to my Airbnb in the morning, explained where everything in the van was and how everything worked. The interior of the van isn't the flashest but is still in good condition. Daniel had fitted new tyres for my trip and the motor didn't miss a beat especially when traversing some of the passes east to west and vice versa. There were four issues that I let Daniel know about when I returned the van (once again, Daniel was very punctual for the pick up and drop off at the airport) - (1) the driver's door didn't always latch properly and the red alert light on the dash would subsequently sometimes flash (2) there was a terrible smell coming from under the sink whenever I opened the cupboard door - I used some air freshener to mask the smell throughout my trip (3) there was only one night of rain during my trip (in Wanaka), and at 3am I was woken with water splashing on my face and pillow (probably no more than a cupfull) - the airvent above the bed was definitely securely closed and I couldn't determine how this water actually leaked through the vent (4) the fridge door seal had an air gap at the very top - fortunately, this didn't seem to affect the fridge performance, probably just meant it ran a lot longer than it needed to! The van had a complete inventory of bedding, cooking appliances and utensils and true to Daniel's word, there were no hidden extras to pay at the end of the trip.

We rented the van in total for five weeks and it did a great job! We had the best time in New Zealand and our campervan definitely contributed to that a great deal (SNOOGS). The van was reasonably old but in a good condition and it got us everywhere where we wanted to go. We had a smaller issue with the water tank but Kylie was very helpful and we got it fixed very fast with her help - of course without charge ;) The driving of the van is really comfortable. So even without a lot of experience in driving vans it was very easy to drive. The bed was very comfortable :). The interior and the set up of the van was functional.
For the van collect in Christchurch Kylie came to meet us at the hostel where we stayed - so convenient! Thank you to Cruzy Campers for making our holidays in New Zealand a wonderful experience! Cheers, Regina and Hamid

Cruzy was great! Kylie and Daniel were prompt with communication and were just lovely in general. The campervan gave us no problems throughout our trip and our 3yo loved his cozy little berth up top.
Kylie met us at the airport which was so convenient and dropped us off afterwards... It was just a little thing but it meant a lot to us so we didn't have to worry about taxis and car seats for our little guy.
Our LO loved sitting up front with us, and since the campervan is small, it fits in a regular parking space which is really convenient.
The van is well stocked, and had everything we needed. The heater was especially appreciated on those cold Spring nights in the mountains.
I loved supporting a family business and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cruzy!!

Had the pleasure of renting a Cruzy Camper for 3 weeks at the end of 2018 for a trip around the South Island.

My girlfriend and I met Daniel in Christchurch, who gave us an incredibly helpful and comprehensive overview of the van. The van itself (Sherpy) was great, well maintained, and gave us no hiccups throughout our duration in NZ. We took it up some fairly steep roads, as well as dirt roads and experienced plenty of varying weather conditions and it was a treat to drive throughout. Inside was comfortable for the two of us and provided a lovely respite after long days of sightseeing/hiking.

Daniel and Kylie were above and beyond helpful, always prompt with responding to emails with a warm and friendly tone that seemed more like friends helping people out rather than speaking to a 'consultant' that is to be expected from larger corporations. We had one minor issue towards the end and Daniel was on the phone with us, helping us through the situation with both friendliness and professionalism. They seem to be more concerned that their clients are having a good time, which to me seems to fall inline with the general hospitality that we found throughout New Zealand. They even spent some time with us once we dropped off the van, and we shared stories with one another it was a lovely way to cap off an otherwise amazing trip to NZ.

Cannot recommend them more as a company to go through, for both the service they offer and their manner in providing it.

Thank you both so much!

We hired the van for 6 weeks; the handover included a thorough briefing and they repaired a broken bulb while we did our first shop. The next 42 days were trouble free. The van was old but a character and everything was clean and comfortable. Some of the fittings had seen a lot of use but worked ok.
Cruzy’s service was exceptional, always answering emails promptly and even helping my daughter with a problem with her own van. They were always friendly and helpful. We had a great trouble-free holiday and highly recommend Cruzy to others. Great value for money as everything was included in the price.

We (couple) spent 17 days travelling the south island in a Diesel/automatic transmission van from Cruzy Campers. It was our first time travelling with a campervan and it ended up being a great experience. The van had everything we needed and the limited amount of space inside was put to good use so that everything was functional and easy to use. The bed was good too. I'm 2 meters tall and was able to sleep comfortably in it (I was also able to stand upright in the van which was great). The camper was a bit old but it gets you everywhere and it is great value for money. We will definitely consider renting it again if we ever return to New Zealand.
Pick up and drop off worked like a charm at our accommodation in Christchurch. The owners Kylie and Daniel are very friendly and accommodating. We could always call their cell phones whenever we had an issue or even just questions. It's a far more personal experience renting a van from a family business rather than from one of the large rental companies. We also liked that all the necessary equipment came with the van and we didn't have to pay extra for anything.

They were flexible as we changed our plans a bit from the original booking. Very easy process to go through. From van quotes, bookings, van orientation and van drop off. Travelled round the beautiful south island for 3 wks with not a single issue. Used the van instructions book a couple of times as had forgotten a one or two things, easy instructions to follow. Was nice to hire the van from a family owned business and thought the service was second none. The south island of New Zealand is stunning. Highly recommend Cruzy Campers. Important - read part one review Sandy Bufton UK this is second part of review that was not showing. We met with Kylie & Dan they hadn’t seen van discussed all issues showed around the van no issues were disputed at this time the van didn’t start due to flat battery when Dan went to drive away. Replacement van PAD1 substantially better no faults clean and a pleasure to drive for remainder of trip. We felt cheated we didn’t have this standard of van from beginning we decided we deserved to be compensated as first 23 days were spoilt by these issues and impacted not only on our time but with no fridge working on gas we couldn’t freedom camp as much. Unfortunately Kylie & Dans attitude changed they backtracked and contradicted themselves about problems. Most issues blamed on cleaning offered refund of cleaning fee $250 & $250 for mouse this offer falls far short of our claim so regretfully we will now seek redress through legal channels. On a positive note we were captivated by New Zealand and the warm and friendly people. We did research carefully and chose crazy campers as was small family business vehicles “meticulously maintained “ unfortunately not for us for our 23 days there are a lot of companies offering camper vans choose carefully
VIV and Sandy .

Reviewed over 1 year ago

Cruzy Campers responds:

Hello Viv and Sandy. We thought we have discussed this on the previous review, but here we are.....

We feel you were disappointed right from the start and determined to find fault no matter how hard we tried. Maybe you shouldn't have traveled in a budget camper?
Sometimes problems do happen on the road, this is the nature of it when working with people and vehicles. We work really hard to keep our clients as happy and moving on the road. Dan has a philosophy about it is how you deal with a problem that is important. When you had a problem, were were available (even at 9 pm) to assist.
Asking for refund at the end of that is like going to a restaurant, eating a steak, then demanding a refund that it wasn't cooked enough.
We maintain that we have tried everything we can to keep you both happy, but some people can not, or will not, be pleased.

You spent 21 days in the north island in a van that mechanically didn't miss a beat. You had problems with the interior and cleanliness, we apologized it wasn't up to your standard ( the only complaint for the last 4 seasons regarding cleanliness) we offered a remedy, a financial refund ( which you refused) and then a full van replacement.
We advertise our fleet as older and well maintained, that is what you received. The interior is older but tidy and they are mechanically meticulously maintained.

Dan did get the fridge going in front of you no problem so we put that down to operator error.
Also as you had run out of LPG we figured that you must have used the gas fridge because a cooker does not use that much.
We dont want to go over all the nitty gritty on a public platform. This is not the place.

We hope you find happiness in today.
Travel safe

Cruzy Campers responds:

Hi Sandy and Viv. Yes, the dead mouse would not have been a nice find at all! As the vans travel up and down the country this does happen from time to time, especially when the Beech Trees flower more than once in a summer.
It was a shame that the LPG bottle expiry was not picked up by the technician that filled it just before we handed the van to you in Auckland. We understand that you felt the van was not clean enough when you received it in Auckland, for this we were sorry and did offer a reimbursement which you refused. This has been the only complaint we have had regarding cleanliness from our Auckland branch, but this has given us the opportunity to refresh our systems. We work hard to provide a clean, friendly reliable service for our clients, which was why you chose to travel with us, the reviews are honest and consistent.
The leak you experienced was during the worst storm Kaikoura had seen in years and was remedied easily, we are pleased that you were able to make use of the hotel we provided for you.
Overall we are pleased that the little things you did not like, bedding, cutlery and plates did not stop you from travelling our magnificent country.
It was lovely to meet you briefly in Christchurch and we are so pleased that the van you received then met your expectations and you carried on without any incident.
We wish you well on your future travels.

We had a wonderful time with our Cruzy Camper! It was great travelling during more than 2 weeks all around both islands with it. We picked it up in Christhurch and dropped it down in Auckland with no problem and a very fair price.
The staff is super friendly and we were explained how everything worked. We were also given some fun tips, a mobile phone, and a super useful map that took us to the most magnificent sceneries. We had no problem at all with it, the bed was big and comfortable, and it had all the acessories we needed: blankets, pillows, a heater, a kettle, pans and kitchen accessories. Also 2 comfy chairs and a portable table to eat outside, and plenty of space to store all the souvenirs we bought along the way!
Driving it was fun and safe. We knew it wasn't as new or as full equipped as other companies campers (maybe our backs are used to newer shock absorbers), but we enjoyed it a lot. There's nothing we would change.

We rented a Cruzy Camper for 3 weeks for a fair price. Snoogs had everything you could wish for. But sadly we had a problem with the power steering when we came back from French Pass on a Saturday afternoon. Of course every workshop was closed until Monday morning. So that we are not stuck in Nelson, Kylie got us a rental car and we could spent the weekend at Golden Bay. When we came back, they checked Snoogs but couldn’t repair because of a missing spare part. Than we drove with Snoogs to Westport, met there with Kylie and Dan to change the camper.
It doesn‘t matter that the campers are old – they are well maintained and of course you can have a problem with a new camper too. But than it depends how your rental company is dealing with problems. Kylie and Dan made a perfect job and we even managed to stick on our route. So definitely 10 stars.

With our trusty camper van we cruzed all over NZ in 10 weeks . Our van was somewhat older but superbly serviced, fully equiped (got a tent for hikes too) and with a great internal layout. We enjoyed every minute even on rainy days. Pick up, drop off and any communication inbetween (with the provided mobile phone!) was always smooth and friendly.

We rented from Cruzy because of the great reviews on Rankers. This was our third multi month trip to NZ in last 10 years. We had a 2002 Toyota diesel camper with 404,000 km. We drove 8,000 km in our 80 day rental. The camper was very clean with new cushion covers and even more household stuff than we could use. Cabinets were beat up but fully functional. It performed flawlessly. The Cruzy folks were great to work with and even had the camper "checked out" at a mechanics half way through our trip. For 80 days for folks in their 70s, it was a little small though we used the porta potti to freedom camp about 2/3 of our nights at great cost savings. This was possible because of the gas refrigerator so think about that when renting a vehicle. Cruzy pays the diesel tax so that is an added plus and we could go down all the wonderful gravel roads to get to the great scenic spots and hikes. With a newer camper you can't do that and you are stuck worrying about every little ding. Making up the bed in these things with sheets and duvets is a pain. Bring lightweight sleeping bags or liners and save yourself lots of work. Thanks again Cruzy for a great trip.

Our diesel automatic HiAce Toyota Certified Self Contained campervan from Cruzy Campers made our 6 week tour of both Islands of New Zealand easy and comfortable for the two of us. While the camper wasn't new, it performed well. We had no mechanical problems with the van, and it was easy to drive on the sometimes quite narrow roads, and many narrow one way bridges- being a more typical van width than the wide style of campervan. The folks at Cruzy Campers had provided lots of housekeeping things that made it possible to just arrive at the airport, pick it up ( with a thorough but easy to understand orientation from Linda and Graham in Aukland), get groceries, and we were off. All the bedding and kitchen stuff was provided so it made packing for the trip simple- just personal items needed. We did find the lighting of the gas refrigerator took a lot of time until we got it serviced (just the dust blown out as far as I could tell) and then it would light on the first try (This is my only reason for not rating them a 10). First time campervan users need to know that this style of van doesn't have a built in toilet- it has a cassette type mini portable toilet that lives in a cupboard until you take it out and set it up somewhere. So we looked for freedom camp sites with toilets which we could find most of the time. The folks at Cruzy Campers were very helpful answering questions when I was exploring various companies and options.I would use them again.

We have been travelling in New Zealand for six weeks in November/December 2017. We booked a self contained campervan with Cruzy Campers. We checked for prices and reviews and since we didn't feel like spending all our savings on a newer/bigger campervan we went with Cruzy.

One thing you should take in consideration is that you will drive an older campervan. That is what you get for the price. It didn't bother us, but during our six-week stay a couple of (small) things occured, which we completely understood although it wasn't ideal. But the service, the communication and the friendlyness we received from Cruzy Campers was outstanding.

We had to leave the campervan the almost at the end of our trip, because of a (probably) broken alternator. But: since I'm in carsales myself I know that stuff like that can even happen with new cars.

We had great fun in New Zealand and the campervan did meet our expectations. More important: the service we received from Cruzy Campers surpassed our expectations!

We are happy to recommend Cruzy and we would be happy to book with them again.

Thanks Kylie & Dan!

We had a great time in our automatic diesel van. We spent 21 days in it travelling all over New Zealand, both islands. When we had any problems with the van, Kylie was very quick on helping us fix them. We had some problem with our fridge while driving but she helped us and got us to a work shop that fixed it really fast so that we only got delayed 1,5 hours, great service! They are very friendly at Cruzy Campers and are very nice, it feels like family and it is easy to see that they care about their customers. Would really recommend!

Crazy campers served us well. Kylie was friendly and helpful throughout the arrangements and while on the road. Although the camper was quite old (16 years), it was reliable and comfortable. Everything worked well. Unlike most Toyota Hiace camper vans, Crazy puts the bed in the middle and the kitchen in the back. At first this seemed weird but we got to like the "head" of the bed behind the seats and the kitchen by the back hatch. For example, the telephone-style faucet of the sink was easily used as a shower off the back. The diesel model we had provided plenty of really hot water that was one of the great luxuries! Another was the shearling seat covers that made for very comfortable travel.
Less luxurious were the polyester sheets and excessive duvet. We ended up buying secondhand cotton sheets and a thin wool blanket at a charity shop, which was a relief. The particleboard cabinets were pretty tired but it was our well-loved home for 19 nights. Thank you!

We have only the best to say about Cruzy Campers. Pleasant and easy communication about the campervan in beforehand, on arrival in Christchurch and on departure in Auckland. The possibility of doing the pick up on the South Island and the drop off on the North was a huge advantage for us since we only had three weeks to see as much as possible of New Zealand. Also nice that the contract was straightforward without extra costs and many ad ons and that the liability on our part in case of accidents was fixed and not very high. The campervan, a Toyota HiAce, was practical and sufficient for us two, and as long as one is conscious, that it is a rather old car with the limitations in ease of driving and speed, it was a good “home”. The freedom of having a certified self-contained car was nice but in the end, we ended up mostly using serviced campsites and caravan parks to have the possibility to recharge the battery and fill fresh water. Without any hesitation we can recommend Cruzy Campers.

Cruzy Campers is amazing! Had the most lovely emailcontact prior to our travels with Kylie and Daniel about the campervan and our trip! When we got the campervan we were so pleased she was called Rooby! She has been our girlfriend for four weeks from 24 february till 22 march this year. It has been amazing. The camper was well equiped, with everything you need. Even the warm blancket was usefull in summer days (nights are cold....). Really liked the map in the car, we used it a lot! We loved everything. The cosiness of Rooby, all the extra's, the high ceiling, and above all the best best best hosts Kylie and Daniel. Thank you so much for everything!!

Cruzy campers was recommended to us by friends , we are happy they did. We did make enquieries at other rental organisations, but Cruzy campers came out best in their offer and in the speed and correctness of their mail correspondence. We had a good compact camper, fully equipped with all things one needs while camping. It completely met our expectations.
The engine refused service once, Kylie and Daniel did all in their power to get it serviced quickly and thoroughly, we were back on the road in no time. We like the way they treat you as a person, not only a paying customer.
If we ever plan a campingtrip in NZ again, we will certainly hire our van at Cruzy campers.

My boyfriend and I (30 & 34y) travelled through NZ for 1 month. I did extensive research beforehand on which campervan to book. I think price / quality is great and you get a lot of comfort (self-contained van, you can cook & stand up inside, it comes with all supplies and you don’t need to rent anything extra) so I would 100% recommend this company!
Here are some of our thoughts:
- pickup: Kylie brought the van to our accommodation, punctual, sufficient time to explain the van & paperwork. Old but clean van, looked exactly as in the pictures, so you get what you see.
- Communication: when originally requiring regarding booking the van via email, Cruzy took a bit longer to respond us than other companies. However, once we booked with them, any email afterwards got a reply straight away – I like this: they actually give priority for communication to their current customers!! Just like it should be. Also in NZ whenever we texted or called them (we did a few times regarding different matters such as a car accident, a windscreen wiper not functioning, we forgetting how to use the electricity etc) Kylie always got back to us asap, and we really appreciated that. Great customer service!
- The campervan is, although old and perhaps sometimes feeling shaky, however very sturdy! You cannot break a Toyota! In the full month we drove around, we never had a breakdown! Even more: we unfortunately were involved in a car crash (some other dude driving on the wrong side of the road!) and we hit the guardrail pretty heavily – however the van had only a slightly dent and we could continue our trip without problems. After that we never felt safer :)
- I would have given the company 10/10 but instead gave 9/10 for 1 reason: I think the van should not be rented by 3 people but max. by 2. Although theoretically possible for 3, apart from the comfortable driver’s seat, the other 2 passengers would be crammed while driving (and you spend a lot of time driving in NZ!) It's perfect for 2!

We rented a petrol 3 adult campervan from Cruzy a few weeks back in NZ for 11 days to tour south Island. I researched many companies and frankly I was at wits end as they were either cheap with very poor reviews or too expensive. My experience of Kylie was nothing short of exceptional. From the first moment we spoke she was helpful, courteous and responded as soon as she could. The price was very reasonable and really good value for money. The van was old but given her husband is a mechanic its in great shape and we could tell no expense was spared. Monty became our friend and our home. The bedding was clean, warm and plenty of it even when we stayed at a lake overlooking Mount Cook which was pretty cold. The cooking utensils and cutlery were perfect and did the job. The additional extras such as chairs and table and NZ road map were the icing on the cake (many other companies charge for these extras). The business is family run and you deal with people and more importantly people who care about what they do. They look after their vans like assets not just a means to earn money. We are backpackers and so value for money was real important and so was security to know we had a van that worked well and we received that. Don't hesitate with booking with Cruzy, you won't be disappointed. Cruzy and Monty left us with wonderful memories of South Island. God bless.

We just wanted to say that because of our Cruzy Camper we had a trip of a lifetime! We enjoyed every hour in our 6 week trip with our camper van and are already looking into finding a way to come back and rent it again. It was super comfortable and easy to use and we thank you for such a clean and well taken care of camper. We love the van so much we named her Ginny. Our little van Ginny drove us flawlessly top to bottom and over 8000km with out a hiccup. Thank you for making our trip such a memorable one and we look forward to renting one again when we eventually return!

After seeing all the other camper vans over our New Zealand Trip we would say that Cruzy Campers is the best bang for your buck! After seeing how fancy some of the other ones got and the prices in comparison it was a no-brainer to pick Cruzy over the rest. It helped us save money to actually enjoy other activities/food in New Zealand. We picked the Petrol Camper van and for what is was (A camper van) it very fuel efficient compared to others. Sometimes up to 500+km per tank! (highway of course)

By far the best customer service compared to the other companies (They personally tried to find us during the last big earthquake). Kylie and Daniel were awesome at communicating via email before our trip began and its nice to talk to owners not employees.

Over all 10/10, you won't regret spending your trip in a Cruzy Camper if you like adventure.

Just back in UK after touring NZ from top to bottom for 3 and 1/2 months (Aug - Nov, 2016) in Cruzy Camper's 2/3 berth,hi-top,diesel Toyota Hiace van. I named my lovely van Suzy (so Suzy Cruzy) and she did me proud. The Cruzy team paid excellent attention to all details (provided maps, NZ pay-as-you-go phone, travel advice, convenient pick-up/drop-off locations, very quick response to any queries) and my van was clean and very well equipped. Suzy Cruzy ran extremely well despite being an old girl (10+ years). I think this is due to the fact that the Cruzy team are maintenance experts (they also run a car/van repair service) so their camper-vans are checked/maintained/serviced very, very regularly. In 3 and 1/2 months of touring I only had one small problem with wind-screen wipers (due to gale-force winds hitting them side-on) and this was sorted out very quickly and efficiently by the team. Had the most amazing time in NZ and Cruzy Campers were a big contributor to this. Thanks Kylie and Daniel - already looking forward to my next trip.

It's been nearly a year since me and my gf travelled around the half of the south island with our trusty Cruzy Camper - we named her Cheryl!. We hope to return again in 2018 to travel around the other half and hope to be reunited with her!

If you are looking for a camper van then look no further. Crazy Campers are a family business who have excellent customer service. We were complete camper van novices. We were reassured when Charlene talked us through everything we needed to know about the van and was patient when we called her up 2 days later to repeat how to empty the water tank. Cheryl gave us the freedom we wanted and we were able to stay longer at some places - something we couldn't have done if we had hotels booked etc. And talking of hotels - we didn't stay in one. New Zealand is totally set up for camping and Cheryl had everything we needed.

The van itself was a bit rough around the edges but we grew to love that. We liked the space above the bed to store our luggage. The van itself was super easy to drive and we got big muscles hoisting ourselves in and out.
It was a small van so we were able to park in car parks and everything inside worked well. We were so thankful about getting a small camper van when we saw how people struggled to reverse and park huge touring vans.
During our trip we scratched the van - there was something sticking out of a signpost in a camper park. The guy t the window said something like 'oh yeh a few people have done that.....'
OMG we felt terrible. Charlene was super understanding and we paid the repair cost and she provided us with all the paperwork we need to be able to claim back the cost on our insurance.

So, stop your searching, reviewing & searching again & comparing & esearching. Rent a Cruzy Camper and spend your time getting excited about your trip and planning out a rough itinerary! ( and dont miss those Marlborough vineyards - amazing!)

The entire time Kylie was a great communicator when dealing with the tricky logistics. The van was exactly the size we needed and everything worked as it should. Spent 3 weeks travelling around NZ in Jan/Feb, driving a Cruzy Camper van. Wonderful holiday was had with nearly 5000KM of driving in the van, mechanically there were no issues. A few minor things went wrong within the van, but nothing which prevented our holiday from continuing. The owners were really helpful when we met them at the start of our holiday and when our holiday was over. Would highly recommend using this company for camper vans.

Good things first: engine and overall mechanics seemed reliable. Bad things: one window does not shut properly, sink leaks, in heavy rain the air vents leak water in to the camper!! Interior pretty worn down.

The new water cylinder that leaked in your van was under warranty and was replaced by the supplier as soon as we got it back to base.Again we are so sorry for the issues you had.We hope you were happy with the personal service received by ourselves and the compensation given alleviated some of the frustrations you had. Cruzy Campers service was excellent. All our enquiries and emails were answered promptly before we arrived. Kylie met us at the airport and immediately made us feel welcome in NZ. She showed us round the van which was equipped with everything we needed. The hand over was prompt and friendly. We had a great time, drove over 1000 miles around South Island in 12 days and never once had an issue with the van. Kylie assured us someone would be on hand if we did have any issues or problems and even provided us with a phone! The van was great to drive apart from in high winds! My husband, 16 year old daughter and I had a fantastic experience,we only wish it could have been longer. Cruzy Campers are great value for money. Highly recommend them!

Refrigerator barely worked on 240v. 12v and gas options don't seem to work at all. Owners seem responsive in trying to rectify the problem but it is difficult to get it looked at by a repair shop when you are travelling and have a tight itinerary. I think the problem is that the van is just too old. 450,000km on the odometer and a real dog on uphills. Probably just need to retire this vehicle.

We rented a petrol campervan from Cruzy from October - December 2015. We had originally planned to have a diesel van but were very happy with the petrol van. The van was a perfect size for me and my partner and came with everything we needed - cutlery, pans, plates, bowls, wine glasses, even a potato peeler and cheese grater! The storage space available was great too. We spent around 80 days in our van, travelling both the north island and the south island and it was just perfect. Even though the van was getting on a bit, it was a really great runner and we only had a minor issue with the house battery - which Kylie and Dan sorted out for us straight away. Kylie was great with communication, via email and telephone and answered any questions we had before and during our rental. We even met with Kylie and Dan in Christchurch when the battery was being fixed - which was lovely.
The fridge and the little gas burner in the van worked great and the bed was easy to set up and put away. If we ever came back to New Zealand we would definitely rent a van from Cruzy Campers again and would 100% recommend Cruzy to anyone.

Cruzy Campers has to be the best value going in the NZ Camper rental market. Great communication from start to finish, meet you for Pickup/Drop Off, camper thoughtfully appointed with all those little appliances/utensils that make life easier (French Press, toaster, hot water pot, etc). Older vans, yes, but all in good working order, and for a great price. Recommended.

We had our campervan (petrol) for 26 days. We started in Auckland and dropped the van of in Christchurch. Both worked very well. The van has everything that you need, even clothepegs. Towels and Bedsheets are provided so you can travel lightly. The bed was very comfortable. We liked a lot that the van is self-contained so we could use the freedom camping and doc places. Only two things were not perfect but still okay. When we had no power and did not drive a long distance our fridge had some difficulties to cool. For us this wasn't a big deal but for others it could be. After a few days with the van we found a leak under the sink. We called Kyle and she found a workshop where the leak was fixed in 1,5 Hours. So we were fast on the road again. I think this tiny problems are totally okay because the service of cruzy campers is really good and the price is very low. We would use it again!

We hired a diesel camper in December 2015 and it was a great experience! Kylie was very helpful and the vans are well maintained - you definitely have peace of mind knowing Daniel is a mechanic. Good sized space for 2 people and comes equipped with a great map book as well to help you get around - very handy and we used it well, particularly for those places you have no cell reception (i.e. most of the South Island's west coast because we were using 2 degrees). Could not fault the service or the vehicle, great price and enjoyed every second of our trip. Also loved knowing we were supporting a locally-owned family business :)

We had a diesel campervan from Cruzy for about 2 weeks. Every positive thing about Cruzy from other reviews is true. Kylie & Daniel are great owners, customer service is quick and clear, and the campervans are reliable and well laid-out. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and would definitely choose Cruzy if we had the choice to make again. A few pleasant surprises: the kitchen was very well stocked with equipment. Kettles (electric & stovetop), pots / pans, utensils, glasses / plates, etc. The barbecue option was a great choice, though keep in mind it's not great in windy or rainy conditions, so we could only use it about 60% of the time. Our van had something like 360,000 km on it, but it was extremely reliable. While a couple interior items felt a bit dated, generally speaking it's clean and the layout is so great that it took about a day for it to feel like home.

I would recommend Cruzy to anyone.

We chose Cruzy Campers because of their great Top 10 reviews and their reliability record on Rankers and they did not disappoint. We hired a Campervan for 3 weeks and took delivery in Auckland at our Hotel and had the van picked up at our hotel in Christchurch.
The whole process managed by Kylie was seamless and couldn't have been simpler. I have every confidence that in the event of anything going wrong Kylie and Cruzy Campers would have sorted it out within a day backing up my impression that going with a smaller local company means you don't just become a number as you might with larger organisations. The van was a little older than some others but was superb and as it happens we travelled 4257kms and the van never missed a beat.
We added the extra for a portable BBQ, which was great for evenings on the beach with a glass of wine. Cruzy are competitively priced, have a great customer care record, good communications and importantly can back up their reliability record, something that is so important on a shorter trip where missed days waiting for repairs become a pain. I have no hesitation in recommending Kylie and Cruzy Campers and if we get the chance to visit NZ once more would certainly use them again.

What an amazing trip!
It made all the difference having a small, friendly, well organised and informative company to deal with.

Kylie was there in person to deliver the van to our hotel at the start of our trip, and the pickup from Auckland airport was simple and without fuss!

The vans themselves, though a little older, are very well looked after and super reliable and comfortable. Everything worked and we never had a problem with anything on it. We used the experience as a test to see if we wanted to buy a van back home in the UK, and with this ecperience we will be getting one as soon as we can!

Thankyou to Kylie and Dan - we couldn't have asked for anything more during our trip!

My partner and I travelled for 4 weeks around New Zealand in a diesel Cruzy camper and had a fantastic time. We picked the van up in Christchurch from Kylie (who runs the company with her husband). They gave us all the information we needed for our trip including some helpful advice as well as a mobile phone to use if we needed to contact them so that we didn't have to use our UK phone. Overall, the van was perfect for us and nice and cosy. It had everything we needed and meant that we could freedom camp around New Zealand. We had a couple of problems with the fridge and the pump but any queries we had during our trip were answered immediately. The vans are a little older than most of the other camper vans we saw on the road but that is reflected in the cost of hiring which was much more reasonable than anywhere else and it didn't prevent us from having an amazing trip. We would definitely recommend their services.

Just came back from a wonderful journey in the the land of the kiwis... more than 3000 kms driving in both islands!! We were on our honeymoon and was the first time with a campervan in a foreign country (we are from Italy).
What can I say... we couldn't have chosen better!
Cruzy Campers was perfect! And the super reviews helped us!
Very good value for money... didn't find anything cheaper but this reliable!
Always on time at the airport and everything was explained with extra care... Kylie was extremely helpful from the beginning... It's a small company so they are always available (by phone, email, whatever) and solve every kind of problem!
Don't hesitate if the van itself seems a little oldish... every van is checked and kept very well... That's the most important thing!
Couldn't have chosen any better!
If we ever come back to NZ we'll surely hire a Cruzy Camper again!!

We had no mechanical issues during the trip although the van was quite old.
The fact that you can stand up inside the van is definitely a great advantage. Also nice to have the kitchen inside rather than on the back of the van as you can be a bit warmer while cooking on chilled nights.

My wife and I rented "Sherpy", a diesel Cruzy camper, for a nearly three-week trip through the North and South islands. We have never done a "campervan holiday" and this was a great way to jump into it! We picked Cruzy after seeing their great reviews on Rankers and they exceeded every expectation we had! The van is perfect for two people traveling together.

Kylie, and the whole team at Cruzy were an absolute pleasure to work with, and helped through every step of the trip from booking, pickup, and drop off. Pick-up and drop off were timely and a breeze, because the folks at Cruzy met us at our accommodations both times. Everything about the van was explained, and Sherpy came fully equipped with everything we needed - bedding, towels, dishes, cutlery, pots, etc. were all included in the van, along with a GPS, excellent road atlas, a prepaid cellphone and 12V USB plug to charge your gadgets while driving.

The hire rates were extremely competitive, and the van (while maybe a little older than some from other companies) was clean, well maintained and performed great on the drive. The vans are "Self Contained", allowing you to camp just about anywhere. The vans can also be "plugged in" if you're staying at a holiday park, which lets you use the conventional outlets (for the included toaster and electric kettle, and your camera charger, etc).
One great thing worth mentioning is that since the campers are van-sized (but still high enough to stand fully upright inside), it was easy to drive on narrow roads and city streets, and it was easy to find parking spaces.

Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would recommend Cruzy Campers to anyone! They take great pride an ensuring you have the best holiday possible.

We hired our van (diesel) for 6 weeks exploring both islands, we chose Cruzy because of the awesome reviews on here and the reasonable price. We encountered a few problems along the way but a quick call to Kylie and we had a garage booked that day or the next so we could get the problem fixed. We had originally only planned 5 weeks in the van but loved it so much we extended to 6 which was no problem and were even given a discounted rate because of the problems we had experienced previously. The vans are fairly old and have seen a lot of use but this didn't affect our trip as the vans are very well maintained, it is apparent that Cruzy Campers really care about the vans and the experience of the visitors using them.

We chose Cruzy for the simplicity and streamlined hiring process. Everything we needed was included like a power adapter for charging electronics, towels, cookware, etc. The van we had was a bit older and the fridge didn't quite cool while plugged in, but did work well running off the battery while driving the van. We hired our campervan from Cruzy Campers for 40 nights to go over the south and north islands. This was our first time to New Zealand and campervan life. I'm very glad I listened to all the positive reviews on this website as our van (hosty) was faultless. Kylie was very quick with email communications while booking the van.

We were given a good introduction to all the van's features after our airport pickup from Kylie. Everything in the van was as described and worked well (numerous people we met on the trip who hired from elsewhere were either missing something, usually a gas bottle, or had a problem with something broken, loose cupboards or water leak inside the van). I think it helps hiring from a smaller company as the owners deal with the vans and care more.

The van is small enough to fit in a normal sized parking space so very convenient at busy places or city centres. It took us a little getting used to being in a small space inside the van but we soon worked it out.

We opted for the diesel van which is a good option for freedom campers as you have hot water and the fridge can run off gas extending your freedom camping experience. It was amazing how many kitchen things were in the cupboards from kettles (gas and electric) and a toaster to good quality saucepans and frying pans, cheese graters, potato mashers and wine glasses. The heater was plenty hot enough for cold October nights.

I would definitely recommend Cruzy Campers to anyone thinking of hiring a van in NZ.

We rented a Toyota Hiace diesel automatic for about 30 days. The van was great. Perfect for two persons to travel around New Zealand. We did 20 days on the south island and 10 days on the north. We started in Christchurch where Kylie brought the van to our hotel which was really easy. After some days our house battery was not working anymore. We sent an email to Kylie. She directly sent an email back and helped us very well. We went to a workshop (garage) in Dunedin. Kylie gave them a phone call in advance to let them know that we needed a new battery, we didn't have to pay anything. After 20 great days of traveling around the south island we took the ferry to the north island. We also took the van on the ferry which was perfect. After 10 days on the north island we dropped off the van in Auckland, also dropping off was really easy. What we really liked about the van: it was fully equipped, the van was self contained so we could camp almost everywhere, it drives really well and easily (although with a lot of wind it was a bit hard to drive because of the high roof), the cosy covers on the driver seat, enough space for two persons, even tall people can stand straight. Although we really liked the van it would be even better if the van was cleaner when we got it, and the waterpump was not always working properly. In the end we would recommend Cruzy Campers to all who want to travel around New Zealand with a great, solid and cosy campervan for a good price. Cruzy Campers is a small and personal company. We definitely would rent a van from Cruzy Campers again if we come to New Zealand another time. Greets Loes and Ruben

Our next stop was the grocery to fill up our fridge with food and drinks and off we went. I can say that if you're split on which company to go with cruzy was a fit for us. We had an amazing experience driving our diesel Cruzy Camper around both the North and South islands over 6-weeks. The communication before and throughout is one of the things that sets this company apart, and is a great reason to choose a smaller company like this over one of the larger impersonal companies. We had a couple of minor issues with the van, which were resolved quickly by Cruzy.

The van itself was older but clean, well appointed and reliable. All at a reasonable price, this is definitely a company I would recommend.

We had the best time last year with our camper 'sherpy' from Cruzy Campers. When we booked we were a bit apprehensive because it was so much cheaper than the other rentals. But just as they say in their advert: no hidden costs. Yes the van is a bit older, but verything works fine! It has perfectly enough space for 2 people, is fully equipped with everything you need cookingwise and is nice and easy to drive, because its nog too big.
The crew of Cruzy is very helpfull, they brought the van to the house of a friend we were staying at in Auckland and when we realised we didn't have a bbq they arranged for someone to meet us to give it to us.
We had no problems on the road so didnt need their assistance but i think if someting would have been wrong, they would be very helpfull.
If I come back to NZ i would defenately rent with them again!

We really enjoyed our Cruzy Camper. It had everything we needed to make our holiday a great one.The starter motor decided to give up a week into our trip but after contacting Kylie she arranged for it to be fixed at the next town.We were put up in a hotel for the night and was back on the road the next day.Nothing was too much trouble for her and we were always able to contact her.We very much recommend Cruzy Campers. Our next trip will be to tour the North Island.

Cruzy Campers were a great company to us as we had an accident (someone went into the back of us) and they got a camper can to is the next day so we could continue our trip. Andy drove from Christchurch to Milford Sound area during the night so we could carry on the next day. What amazing service! I don't think that would happen with other companies. The only reason I gave it 8/10 is because the vans are old-ish, we were aware of that when booking the van so it wasn't a surprise. We felt we needed to clean the bedding when we began our journey and also give the fridge a good clean with wet wipes etc, it was a little annoying to spend time doing that but it's probably just my own issues with standards to cleanliness- I'm sure no one else would notice! The rest of the van worked well and it was easy to drive, we really enjoyed our time in the camper and would definitely recommend this company.

We had an absolutely wonderful time with our Cruzy Camper 'Hosty' (Diesel) driving three weeks all through the North - and South Island. Communicating and booking with Kylie and Andrew was smooth and all questions got answered quickly (and I did have many questions :) )
'Hosty' was an older van, but ran absolutely smoothly and without any issues. Everything we needed for our adventure was there - from good cooking utensils, wine glasses, coffee plunger, extra warm blankets, hot water, enough room to store all bags during the day and an emergency mobile phone - we were ready to start driving as soon as we left the airport. Driving the van is easy, expect during wind which can be a bit hairy if you are not used to it. We sometimes stayed at Free Camping sites (thanks to the certification no problem) and more often at DOC camp sites which we really enjoyed due to their wonderful locations! We never ran out of electricity, gas or had a full waste water tank, we normally stayed at a commercial campground every 3-4 days. Loved loved loved every minute of our trip and will definitely be booking with Kylie and Andrew again next time we come to New Zealand. The price was really competitive to other operators and we felt in good hands from the first minute! Thanks Kylie and Andrew!!!

We decided to book our van with Cruzy campers following the reviews on Rankers, and we didn't regret it !

Since our first contact, we exchanged a lot by mail with Kylie and she was very helpfull not only to book the van, but also to give us some advice about the country.
Because we were arriving in the middle of the night, she proposed us to comme at the airport at 1 am to welcome us and she did it ! The van was already parked in a camping next to the airport, with the warming system already on... I think we couldn't find better help for our arriving.

The van by itself was exactly what was described, clean and in very good conditions, plus some extra warm blankets.

We didn't have any trouble even if we drove 4 000km on both islands, and someone came at the hotel to take the vehicle back, with no question at all, not even a checking of its condition !

So a huge thank you to Kylie and Cruzy, having made it so simple, at a very good price, allowing us to enjoy this such great country !!

We had such a wonderful experience with Cruzy Campers- we couldn't say enough good stuff! We initially selected Cruzy because we were set on a one way rental from South Island to North which many companies charged a lot of money for. Not only was Cruzy by far the most economical but went the extra mile to meet us right at our hotel to pick up and then meet us at the airport when we were leaving. It couldn't have been easier.
The campers are a bit old but clearly maintained with love by the owners. We didn't have any mechanical etc problems on our journey but based on the service I would have been shocked to not get an immediate response and resolution.

Myself and now Fiancee (we got engaged in NZ) spent 3 weeks in the South Island in Jan/Feb this year.
From the off, Kyle was helpful, friendly and easy to communicate with despite the time difference and i never had to wait more than 48hrs for a response.
We had arranged with Kylie for her to deliver the Camper to the Hotel first thing in the morning, this was not a problem for Kylie and i think if we had asked to deliver it to China she would have. We choose the high top diesel. Kylie was super informative, walked us around the whole van, explained everything we needed to know and even provided a map and prepaid Cell phone for emergencies (we didn't need to use it).
The camper itself, which we ended up naming 'Jonah' after the rugby player Jonah Lomu because it was a beast was just perfect for us. It was a little dated and had a whopping 350,000 KM's on the clock but it had everything we needed for 3 weeks 'cruzing' around NZ. It wasn't quick but it was a trooper and even on some very steep inclines chugged along and got us where we needed to go. The only thing i would say about driving a high top if you haven't before, NZ can be quite windy and when the wind catches it, you really have to fight the steering wheel,
Near the end of our trip we had arranged to stay 5 days after we dropped off the Camper in Christchurch, however with 2 days to go before dropping the Camper off we decided that we wanted to extend by a couple of days, i emailed Kylie asking the price and whether it was possible, within a couple of hours she had replied and confirmed all good and quoted a price which we snapped up.
Overall, the Cruzy Camper experience was second to none, i would without doubt use Cruzy again if returning to NZ. I wouldn't say that the Campers would be for everyone and the vans could do with updating in places, however for what WE wanted it was perfect and the service was A*.

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of spending a few weeks in New Zealand. When we arrived to the south island, we decided to go all out and rent a camper so that we could tour the entire island and not be limited to where we wanted to go.

We absolutely enjoyed our time in the south island and Cruzy Campers made it possible. When we first arrived to Christchurch via public transit, we were pleasantly met by Kylie and our camper. She spent some time going over all of items in the camper and also showed us what to do if we ran into any problems. We were also very happy to see that they had supplied us with items as simple as a fix a flat solution to ensure were prepared on our very long journey. That preparedness really made us feel very comfortable with Cruzy Campers and allowed us to enjoy our holiday without having to stress out about vehicular problems.

In addition, the idea of having a camper around the island made the trip so much more magical! I still remember the second day of the trip where we parked near the beach on the west coast, made dinner and had wine while watching the sun set in front of us. We spent the night listening to the sound of the ocean and it was nothing less than amazing. Also, not having to stress on how long before we make it to the next city and will there be a decent hotel to take us in during high season was a load off our minds.

This was such an experience and I can't recommend it enough! Cruzy Campers made it possible with a great price point and a very responsive service whenever we had questions.

Thanks again and would do it again in a heart beat!

We spent 3.5 weeks with our Cruzy driving from Christchurch all along the South Island and across the North Island with drop off in Auckland. The van was really great and provided everything we needed to have a comfortable and cozy stay in various remote and beautiful places. The kitchen was equipped with pots, pans, towels, dishes, bottle opener, lighter, soap, clothespins, dishwashing brush… we had to buy nearly anything additional. The handover was very friendly– thank you Kylie for patiently replying all our questions! Twice we got a little into trouble due to a stone crack on the windscreen and a broken back light but Kylie organized an appointment at a garage in Nelson fitting perfectly into our itinerary. The repair was carried out within less than one hour, so we lost no time which was great. In addition, we were not charged for the repair, even though the broken back light was our fault (highest insurance). In summary, we warmly recommend Cruzy Camper to anyone with a limited budget (don’t expect a huge, brand new family van) wishing a little extra comfort (different than the discount suppliers) and very friendly support at any time. Best choice!

Hello from Portugal! We've just completed a classic three-week road trip around New Zealand. All of this was only possible because we had a super Cruzy-campervan by our side, and owners Kylie and Andrew on the telephone side. All was great and we would definitely re-book with them and recommend it to our friends. The van was perfect for our budget and the driving is smooth. After 4500km it was still as fresh as in the beggining. The bed is totally confortable and allow you to completely rest you tired back and legs every night. They have a little book (the bible!) explaining all the functioning of the important things like the fridge or the heating and you must, i repeat, you must read the book. We had some issues with the battery (our fault, by leaving the water pump on all night) and they easily arranged a garage (in Queenstown city center) to solve the problem, so it only took us a couple of hours to get the van back and perfectly working. All the rest worked fine. The only thing we were a bit disappointed (but maybe our expectations were wrong) was the shower. The thing is that the water tap really has a hose that you can extend outside for a quick shower. But the water pressure is not just like a shower so you get some limitations. But it's ok. Other strong points are the possibility of leaving the van in the South Island without extra charge, the easy-parking as the van is not very big and the cellphone they provide free of charge, only having to top it up. We also recommend strongly the barbecue (extra 20 dollars) very easy to work with.

So our conclusion in one word is: PERFECT. We miss our Cruzy van and remember it every day.

Our best regards

We hired our Campervan through Cruzy Campers. The experience with the both Andrew and Kylie throughout was tops--one could not ask for a more gracious, kind and on- the- spot personal service. A+.
The experience of staying so close to nature but still having the comforts of running water, gas stove, comfortable bed with all the amenities one needs, made the experience a "once in a lifetime" gem. New Zealand is the diverse and gorgeous, so to be able to really have closer experience with the land, water, sky 24/7 is a must in my book. I would recommend Cruzy Campers to all my friends.
We were driving to Milford Sound, and had just come through a long mountain tunnel. It was a one lane- so the vehicles heading in the opposite direction were lined up waiting as we emerged from the tunnel. A campervan that had been in the waiting line started honking it's horn and people waving excitedly, and we saw that it was another Cruzy Camper! Everyone must have thought we knew each other. It was such a joyous moment shared--people who don't know each other-but because they obviously are having a fantastic time as we were, there was a joining of hearts in pure joy and elation.
Thank you Kylie, thank you Andrew and thank you to what we came to call "Starlight Sally"- our home for 18 days and nights under that starlit beautiful sky.

Kylie and Andrew are the best! We rented a self-contained camper van for three weeks and from the moment we contacted Cruzy (4 months prior to pick up!!) to the moment they picked it up from us at the end of our trip, we were treated very professionally. I had all kind of questions and Kylie was very patient, informative and quick to reply each and every time. The only issue I had was that we were not able to meet with Kylie when we picked up the van because she was getting ready for her wedding!!! Of course, I am be facetious, but she was actually thinking about trying to meet up that day!!! Talk about customer service. However, Andrew who dropped the van off and picked it up was more than helpful. He was very knowledgeable about the van (he should be, he used to own the business) and gave us his personal cell just in case something happened along the way.
We looked into many other companies and finally decided on Cruzy. We are glad we did because we got the personal attention we wanted and from talking to others along the way who rented from the bigger companies, they felt rushed, did not get their needs met and were over priced.
The van we got (Ski Brd) is a little older, but suited us just fine. We drove it all over the south island and it never gave us a problem.
Thanks so much Kylie and Andrew for helping us make our honeymoon a terrific trip!!

Satisfying, flexible, trustworthy and good value experience. The vans are not the newest and do not have the flashy paintjobs as Escape, Wicked and the likes. However, for more or less the same price, Cruzy rented us a self-contained, spacious campervan with all the features such as hot running water, heating, electric/gas cooler etc, which is just what we wanted in (sometimes rainy) NZ. Kylie, having taken over from Jenny and Andrew, provides very responsive and professional yet personal and flexible service. When hiking Routeburn, Cruzy allowed us to use EasyHike, another excellent NZ service, which we appreciated.

Cruzy Campers is a fantastic company to rent a campervan from. They were very responsive to emails and supply renters with a cell phone to make sure you can be in touch if needed. The campervan (Diesel automatic) was in good shape given that it was an older model and everything worked fine. This company sets you up well for a roadtrip by supplying the van with bedding, kitchen supplies, tables and chairs, road guides, a cell phone, and a full load of fresh water and propane. We were able to hit the road immediately after the airport pick-up with just food to buy on the way. The van did fine throughout our driving on the southern island and although it gets there slowly, it moves well at the motorway speed limit 100 km/hr. Overall very easy to drive. Converting from dining to bed was also easy and surprisingly comfy. The bed is a bit small in these campervans, which was cozy for us but I think using for 3 people or 2 very large or very tall would be tough. Overall this was a great experience and we would be happy renting from Cruzy on future trips. I should also mention that we were travelling internationally and made the reservation by email without any trouble.

We thoroughly enjoyed our travel around South Island in our Cruzy Camper. Nothing was a problem for Andrew, Jenny and Kylie even though we split our camping up by going on the Alps 2 Ocean Bike ride with friends in the middle week of our 3 week visit. Jenny met us at the end of the first week, dropped us to meet our friends, cleaned the camper and picked us up again at the end of the bike ride. Excellent service and the two separate weeks were treated as one hire. The camper was economical, never missed a beat even up some steep hills and was well fitted out. We spent most of the last week in heavy rain and we were warm, dry and cozy the whole time. Loved the inverter, the phone, the hot water, the sharp knives, the big coffee cups, the Hema map book and the free table and chairs. We camped out a lot at camp sites we found in the Hema map book and were impressed with the DOC's campsites we stayed at. The size of the van meant it was easy to drive and very easy to park. Excellent experience in a beautiful country.

We rented a Cruzy Camper for 10 days and toured the southern parts of the South Island. Andrew picked us up at the airport and took us out to the road heading south. Here he patiently explained the Campervan details to us. He left us with a cell phone and we used it a couple of times to phone him as we were slow to understand how things like the frig converted from battery to gas. He was always patient and very helpful. We enjoyed the Cruzy and it was wonderful to sit inside and eat during the often windy cool weather we had. The vehicle was easy and economical to drive and served us well. Later we rented a van and missed our Cruzy very much. Everything we needed was in the Cruzy plus flashlight, map book etc. If you want to freedom camp you need the sticker on the windshield that the Cruzy has. Many campervans aren't self-contained and don't have the sticker. We enjoyed freedom camping the best, many of the sites are very scenic and uncrowded.

He assured us that this shouldn't be a problem and I asked him specifically that we did not want to be blamed if this would come to be a problem: he assured us "he wouldn't argue".

The problem kept occurring and kept ruining our plans and our trip. It kept leaking and the warm water stopped working and the wood had finally swollen so much that an interiour-wooden door fell off(!). We finally asked for a refund after having this problem for several days, loosing precious time and having to cancel some of our plans, which is ridiculous since we paid for having a working vehicle.

But the biggest problem was in all means the owner. In Wellington he told us he would "never rented us the van if he knew we were going to the south island". Since my first e-mail to him included one question: can we take the van to the south island? I was so taken aback by the rudeness at this and the accusations that were insinuating that we were to blame for all this! And when a casing of some sort just fell of the back of under the car(!) he was "very curious about what have caused this, since it would take a lot of force to tear it off" which felt like he was insinuating (again) that we were being reckless. Thank you Andrew.

Everything was just so bad.
When we were chatting with a mechanic and mentioning all the troubles we had and told him the company, he told us he was "sick and tired about repairing Cruzy Campers old vehicles" and that "some companies (he didn't want to mention any names) bought in old campervans that were then re-used even though deemed un-rentable”. Don't know how true this is for this company, but wouldn't suprise me considering the standard of our vehicle.

So even if the company has a high rating, we would never, ever use this company again.

Cruzy Campers responds:

Johan is a very nice young man. Some of the things he describes are correct. Unfortunately he puts a very bad spin on things.
The water cylinder did leak, we discovered that at the hand over.and he has compensated for that.
The remark about not renting the van to him if I knew he was taking it to the South Island has been reported completely out of context and the remark is incomplete. It is true though that you cannot travel both Islands in NZ in three weeks. Not Auckland and then back to Auckland. It would have been much better for Johan to drop the van in Christchurch.Much cheaper for him. We suggest this to many people to save them money and time.
I would like to know who the mechanic Johan was chatting to as we have very few problems. In fact this particular van has been out on two further hires, after a new water heater being fitted and both hirers have been very happy. The first complementing me on how well it was maintained.

I hope you had a happy time for the rest of your holiday.

He seemed happy when he left me and gave me a hug!!!

We spent about 2 weeks on the South Island in our Cruzy Camper and had a ball. The van was equipped with everything we needed and a nice touch to have the cell phone, although it wasn't required. I would recommend a camper trip around NZ to anyone. Fuel is rather expensive but considering you save on accommodation with most sites free to stay it balances out. Pick up and drop off was easy at Christchurch airport and we were on our way.

My wife and I had our first (of many, I expect) trip to New Zealand this past January. It was a little unnerving at first because we didn't know where we were going or what to expect. Leading up to the trip, however; Andrew and Jenny were a huge help to us, and made us feel at ease about renting their camper. Sure, it was a little older, but, no big issues with it and it drove like a charm. With the money we saved by using Cruzy we were able to blow a few extra bucks in wine country to stock up for a good time in Queenstown.

We spent a total of three weeks in our camper and it sure didn't feel like long enough. We picked the camper up in Christchurch, spent two weeks on the South Island, and then a little more than a week on the North. It was easy to pack up and go when we wanted, and we had no issues with it - when we thought we had an issue in Christchurch, Andrew came by to pick up the camper and lent us his car for the day - how awesome is that?

A couple of notes about packing for a camper trip

- Duffle bags are your friend. Suitcases don't pack well.
- Don't overpack clothes. There's washing machines at every campground.
- Road tunes are a must.
- Be realistic in your driving times - try not to cram too much into your trip - you'll definitely see things along the way you want to stop and check out, so allow some breathing room when trying to figure where you want to go

Very good overall price/quality ratio! The van was indeed old but still reliable and well-equipped. We didn't have any technical problem, which is crucial for a road trip like we did. Andrew & Jenny did a great job making sure we'd be provided with all necessary utensils, equipment, etc. I particularly appreciated the attention paid to little details, such as providing us with an extra blanket, a torch or a pre-paid cellphone. I think this is a very good deal for young couples looking for a relatively affordable solution to visit New Zealand!

Vehicle was cheap on fuel, easy to drive, and very reliable. Vehicle was getting a little old, 2000, but ran well. We had some difficulty getting comfortable in the drivers seat, but did resolve it eventually with a towel. We wished the high top was not so high, it was very difficult to drive in high winds. The bed was comfortable, and the kitchen handy. Loved the Hema map book, got into some really neat places. Having the cell phone was a nice perk, even though we hardly used it. We had a fabulous time. Being picked up and delivered to the airports was a great perk. Andrew also delivered our suitcases to our departure city, so no extra baggage in the van, much appreciated!

It's easy to give a good review when things go well. But when there is a problem and things get taken care of quickly, it's not only easy but a pleasure. Such was the case with Andrew and Cruzy Campers. There was a problem with the LPG tank and Andrew answered our call instantaneously and took care of the problem immediately despite the fact that we were a long way from where we picked up the van. He made sure everything was in excellent working order. And when we thought there was a problem with the refrigerator, Andrew was right there with great patience to talk us through what turned out to not be a problem. Cruzy Campers is excellent!

I've used Cruzy Campers twice now and would thoroughly recommend them to anyone looking for a great camper van experience in NZ.

Nothing is too much trouble for Andrew and Jenny - from the pre-trip emails asking for advice on where to go, to meeting you on your arrival at the airport, to the pre-loaded mobile phone they leave you in the caravan in case of emergencies.

The vans work a treat - spacious, clean, well stocked and I've never experienced any issues with them.

If you're looking for a more personalized service than the bigger van companies, then you can't go wrong with Cruzy Campers.

We rented a Cruzy Campervan for three weeks to cruise the North and South Islands. It was a wonderful camping experience, New Zealand is a beautiful country to visit. The van was well stocked and included towels, face cloths, cooking supplies and plenty of linen. It was super clean, there was a comprehensive instruction manual, a telephone, and pick-up and drop-off were very slick. The van was very well maintained and ran flawlessly. The company owners, Andrew and Jenny, responded to all our emails in a timely fashion and our travel plans went extremely well.

My husband and I travelled with a diesel Cruzy camper for 4 weeks from Nov to Dec 10 2013 with great weather and no crowds. It was a unique experience to hunt and book a van in NZ from Canada. Andrew and Jenny who own Cruzy made the task so easy. The price is right and their vans have all you need. Older vans can be better. Cruzy maintains their fleet very well. Newer vans may have firmer beds but we solved that with a camping foam. We did a lot of freedom camping with no issues. Many campgrounds are available for showers on other days >$36 per night. Other Company vans have issues: no sticker to qualify as self contained (fines can be $200), small fridges that do not operate on gas so need electricity daily, harder to get to empty waste water, diesel tax as an extra as well as tables. Britz campers and others have a poor design inside which means one leaves the bed made and your activities are all outside. Andrew and Jenny supply you with all you need for that unique holiday. We cruised from Sidney to Auckland with 6 days in sounds and NZ cities. 2 weeks on each island after that just vanished. What a gorgeous way to see NZ. We are ready to repeat this experience anytime!

Me and my partner travelled with cruzy camper “Named Sherpy “ for 5 weeks in Dec Jan . I can recommend Cruzy to anyone who is up for real NZ camping experience . The Van had everything that we needed and there was no extra charge for little things like table and chairs as most of the big companies do. The Van was spacious enough for 2 ppl and small enough to tackle some of the dirt roads that most of the big vans cannot go thorough, and enough power to lead the pack on mountains
Andrew is a great guy and will do his best that you will have a good time in your holiday .I would like to thank and apologise Andrew for driving the van in low bridge and taking both the vents off in Mt Cook
:D . I was a little bit worried that the holidays are over how ever the turnaround time to get the van fixed and us back on road was less than 12 hours and during that time Andrew gave us another van . Cant ask for more :)

Happy campers

PS : you are not another number, like when you are with Jucy .. its more personal .. so honk the another cruzy when you see it on the road

Loved this company! We rented a diesel van from Jenny and Andrew for a 20 day trip in November 2013 based on the reviews we read on here. We did a one way trip starting in Christchurch and ending in Auckland. Andrew and Jenny were very easy to deal with and flexible with our schedule as well. As far as the van goes, it wasn't the newest model out there but that was fine by us. It had everything we needed and it was clean and well maintained. We really loved that it was certified self contained so we didn't have to worry as much about where we camped. Honestly we were happy to not be one of the thousand Jucy vans we saw on the road. All in all a great van and we were sad to see it go at the end.

My husband and I rented the camper because my mother had moved into a small retirement home and was unable to accommodate us during our visit to NZ. There was also a lack of accommodation available. We liked the camper because it gave us flexibility to enjoy the maximum amount of time with my family, while providing a mode of transport. We also got to go away for a couple of holidays to Akaroa and the West Coast. It was a treat to have all the cooking facilities available and to be sheltered from the rain and cold. The fact that it was not a large van enabled us to travel and park the in most places. We also liked the fact that we didn't need to rely on electricity when we parked parked in one of the free campsites at Arthur's Pass. We liked having Andrew meet us at the airport and at my mother's house at the end of the holiday. Overall, we felt we got excellent value for our money and would gladly rent again another time. If any friends from Canada decide to visit, we would not hesitate to recommend Cruzy Campers.

I travelled round New Zealand for 19 days in November 2013 and my trip could not have gone better.
From the initial booking to pick up and drop off Andrew and Jenny were great to deal with. Andrew also give me some ideas to consider other places along my journey.
As I was travelling on my own seeing friends and relatives it was reassuring to know that Andrew and Jenny were only a telephone call away.
The one issue I had concerning the fuel gauge pointer not moving was entirely my mistake as I had not realised how economical diesel is and in the van I had you had to drive more than 100 K to see the gauge pointer move. Jenny responded within a few hours of my raising this query and put my mind to rest. The diesel van I had was good value and very easy to drive.
I'm not surprised that Cruzy Campers gets so many high scores as Andrew and Jenny have built a successful business model that understands that many people are travelling vast distances to get to New Zealand and once there want things to go a smoothly as possible. Many thanks Andrew and Jenny.

Firstly we do not usually leave these sort of reviews. However we would just like to confirm previous reviews of Cruzy Campers. There are a lot of van rental companies out there, which makes choosing the right one a real gamble. We did loads of searching, and Cruzy seemed to come out tops.
Yes they are "older" vans, but they feel really well maintained. They are obviously run by people who actually use vans themselves. Everything you need is in the van, including a mobile phone, really good road atlas (Hema), extra blanket,towels.... I could go on.
If anything does go wrong Andy and Jenny could not be more professional and helpful. We had a couple of small electrical problems, one of which was leaving the headlights on, draining the battery, which makes starting the van "difficult". They sorted out a local contact, who came and got the van started, which considering we were in the tiny town of Glenorchy, at 6pm on a Sunday evening was really impressive. The few times we did have to call them, the calls were answered, without fuss, and with genuine concern.
If you are reading this review, you must have done your own research, and must have realised that their pricing is good, which is important. But we would say that customer service is just as important, especially if you are going on a long trip. Cruzy Campers win on both.
We fell in love with New Zealand, but only had time to see the South of The South Island. We will definitely be returning, and will have no hesitation in using Cruzy again.

Cheers Andy and Caroline.

My husband and I had 3.5 great weeks in New Zealand firstly by car/motel on the North Island and then in a Cruzy Campervan on South Island. We were met in Christchurch by Andy and Jenny who were very friendly and welcoming and we took off across Arthurs Pass.

4 days before we were due to fly home my husband took a stroke. It was a Sunday morning and we were at the Mount Cook campsite. I went in the ambulance with my husband leaving a rather untidy campervan behind.
The hospital my husband was taken to was at Timaru about 3 hours from Mount Cook and 2 hours south of Christchurch.

When I phoned Andy he said not to worry he would collect the van that day and bring me our gear.
True enough Andy and Jenny arrived at the motel I was staying in with all our stuff that evening.
Being so far from home (Scotland) it was great to see familiar friendly faces. Jenny also left me,free of charge, her car for me to use while we were in Timaru.
My husband was well enough to fly home 2 weeks later and we handed the car back to Andy and Jenny at Christchurch Airport.
The support and concern they showed was brilliant and helped me to cope with the unplanned ending to our otherwise wonderful holiday.

In glancing at a few of Cruzy's recent reviews, I have to say that I agree. First and foremost, the customer service from Andrew and Jenny is A+. We did have a mechanical issue with a fan belt, lucky us, and I was mentally preparing myself for a 1 or 2 day delay. Not so. We called Andrew (on the phone he supplies, with his phone # clearly printed on back) and he was immediately on top of it. He located a mechanic, who not only was there in 30 minutes but also after regular business hours. The van was in the shop first thing the next morning and the only thing it cost us was a leisurely breakfast. Needless to say, we were pleasantly surprised at the prompt attention. The "Kiwi Way" is alive and well. Thank you Andrew and mechanics, Clarke Johnston and son of Fox Glacier, for making a major inconvenience nothing at all.
Renting from Cruzy was a totally positive experience. All expectations were met above and beyond and there were no unpleasant surprises. No worries.

We are US-based camper-van fans who have traveled by campervan/safari-truck throughout the US, Canada, South Africa, Botswana, and now New Zealand. We had a great experience on our seven-week trip with Cruzy Campers in February and March 2013. We had 'Budley', a 2004 Toyota HiAce manual-transmission petrol van with 300k on the odometer. The van was well-maintained, reliable and easy to drive. I computed its gas mileage at 20 mpg (gas was about $8/gal in USD). Andrew and Jenny were easy to work with and responded quickly and thoroughly to our questions and concerns (and are genuinely nice people). We went with Cruzy for three reasons: (1) we needed a certified-self-contained van because many freedom-camping areas require it, (2) the details of the terms and conditions for Cruzy were better (look carefully at things like deposit and refund terms, deductibles, and where you can take the vehicle. If your contract says you can't drive it on unsealed (gravel) roads, you're going to miss a lot (that's assuming you're on a see-the-backcountry tour). And (3), I'd rather work with a small outfitter who knows each vehicle in detail.
NZ travel tips: GPS takes a lot of the stress out of finding your way; the Camping NZ iPad app is $15 but worth every penny (and it has the GPS positions of all the campsites (under 'Contacts')) ; we loved the 'NZ Frenzy' guides and planned where we were going by its contents. Also- plan how to keep all your electronics charged. We took a three-headed 12-volt socket splitter and a 150W inverter and seemed to barely keep up with our two laptops, two cell phones, iPad, GPS, and camera batteries.

We definitely recommend these guys and this company for their reliability and friendliness and thinking about it we are happy that our money didn't go to such big rental companies like Maui or Apollo but to people who really care about their Campervans.

My girlfriend and I had a great experience with Cruzy Campers. We rented a Diesel Campervan for 12 days and it was the most awesome travel experience I had so far. Cruzy Campers is owned and managed by a retired couple, Andrew and Jenny. From the start of the whole process of initial inquiry to the end of the process of returning the vehicle at the airport, you can see Andrew and Jenny's personal touch.

Andrew was very very helpful, and spent a considerable amount of time going through my travel itinerary with me prior to my trip. He dished out many friendly advice and recommended changes.

In addition, a huge plus point is that Cruzy Campers provides the best rates. I have checked out other companies and was quite pleased that Cruzy's was able to fit into our travel budget. To top it off, Andrew's quick and personal response to my inquiries cemented my decisions to get it from Cruzy Campers.

Sherpy, (license plate of my campervan!), was a good and comfortable ride! Even though it was older than the campervans from other companies such as Blitz and Maui, you can see Andrew and Jenny's personal touch to make this van truly comfortable. Everything was in order, from the kitchen utensils, to the bed's linens and pillows, and to the fridge.

We did not need to worry about our campervan at all during the 12 days journey, and that helped to allow us to enjoy our journey. Andrew's repeated reassurance to give him a ring if there were any problems helped to soothe our initial fears of traveling on the roads.

All in all, I would strongly recommend everyone to get from Cruzy Campers!

Thanks Andrew and Jenny! :)

My wife and I visited N-Z during 4 weeks last november, touring both North and South Islands in a Cruzy Campers Campervan (diesel). Vehicle was a bit old, but in perfect shape, clean and well equipped. It was also a nice size to travel all around the country, in the steep hills or the flat valleys, easy to park or to drive in smaller street. I couldn't get a better all inclusive deal. Also, Andrew and Jenny were very helpful before we left Canada, were waiting for us on arrival at Auckland as well as being there at 4h00 before departure from Christchurch. Jenny even mailed me the 1$ coin I was missing for my worlwide coin collection ! I would not hesitate to recommend Cruzy Campers to any couple looking to hire a campervan for such a trip in New-Zealand.

My girlfriend and me had 12 great days with our Cruzy camper.
From the beginning (i.e. booking) to the end Andrew has been very nice and helpful. Pickup from the airport, drop off at the airport again.
The camper came with everything we needed: linen, plates, fridge, maps (incl. all camper sites) and a cell phone for emergency cases! The latter was not needed at all. We drove up to Mount Cook and down to Curio Bay. We did not have to think a minute about having trouble with the camper and could enjoy our journey.
I read many reviews before booking a campervan. All big other companies had about 30% horrible reviews, there is none for Andrew and Cruzy Campers - and there is a reason why.
I give 9 of 10 points because of the older vehicle cruzy provides - but hopefully you won't spend more time than sleeping and cooking in your campervan, because New Zealand is worth leaving your campervan ;)
Thanks to Andrew and cruzy campers for an unforgettable journey.

First of all: Driving a campervan is the best and most rewarding way to travel New Zealand. And Cruzy Campers is certainly one of the best rental services in this country. My girlfriend and I travelled around NZ for four weeks in November 2012, and with this campervan (Diesel engine), we had everything we needed for an unforgettable holiday. The van comes with complete cooking equipment (also including such things like a toaster), a mobile phone with credit-points (which is also useful to check the weather online), and a very good and detailed road map, containing an overview of all campsites - from 5-Star-holiday parks to basic doc campgrounds (this is the only map you will need on your travel). Andrew is a very friendly and uncomplicated guy. He runs his business with passion and is always there to help you out with anything you need. We enjoyed our stay so much, that we are still planning our next trip to NZ – of course with Cruzy Campers!

We hired a campervan from Cruzy campers for 3 weeks in December. From booking through to returning the van we had fantastic and quick correspondence with Andrew who was very happy to answer any questions regarding the van or new zealand in general. We were met at the airport and given a very full explanation on how to use the van etc. There was a mobile phone we could use for free calls or add credit if you wanted to use more than this. Could text andrew with any questions and he could ring you bacn (didn't need this but nice to know if case of problems). The van was economical and actually drove very well. All bedding/ sheets/ kitchen equipment provided. Fridge great and big enough for sojme drinks, milk and couple days food. You can stand in the van and do all cooking inside if its raining was a bonus for us compared to some of the jucy/spaceship type campervans.
We could not fault our campervan experience and if you are looking for a decent campervan alongside excellent service and the reassurance that you have help on hand if breakdown etc then choose cruzy campers. Also very competitively priced.

This was just the right size van for New Zealand's narrow back roads, had plenty of power, and was easy to drive.

Andrew is timely and responsive to e-mails and calls. We needed to replace the battery midway through the trip and he handled the arrangements so that it was painless for us. That was the only trouble with the van in 3 months.

We have cruised NZ in 2012 for 42 days with a 2004, manual petrol TOYOTA Hiace campervan.
The campervan included everything we needed. Starting from laundry pegs, twine and a big LED torch to cookware, cutlery, linen, a prepaid phone and a road atlas for campervans (which turned out to be very useful even though we had a navigation system). All in all the campervan was compact and suited perfectly for the two of us.
Another big plus was the “self contained” certificate, not common for this type of vehicle, that allowed us to freedom camp with no worries.
Andrew and Jenny were very nice, responsive and helpful, providing all the answers to our many questions both in the online ordering procedure and upon picking up and dropping off the van.
It was especially nice of them to oblige us with extra equipment upon request.

Andrew, who's a fun guy to talk to, personally delivered our camper to the hostel and walked us through the features bumper to bumper. We had a fantastic time driving the perimeter of the South Island for the next 17 days in our little Cruzy Camper home. A wonderful experience and a great way to see New Zealand! At one point, a fluke screw let go and our gray water hose was dragging under the camper. We decided to go with Cruzy Campers for a number of reasons, firstly for the positive reviews on this site, secondly, because of their competitive quote and most importantly because Andrew and Jenny were so prompt in all their correspondance with us. This definitely put our mind at ease, as making such a significant booking over the internet (on the other side of the world), with no idea who you're dealing with, can be a tentative experience.
We were not disappointed in any way with our decision. The campervan (SNOOGS!) was perfect for us and became our very comfortable home for almost a month.
I have to mention also how great Andrew was with regards to our 'Van Vs Tree' incident, which resulted in a dented back door and no back window. I called him immediately and explained the situation and within 20 minutes he rang me back and had booked us in for repairs for the following day in a garage closest to our location at the time (Motueka). This also included the time taken for transportation of a new back window from Nelson to Motueka. We had taken out insurance so thankfully the repair costs were completely covered by this.
Andrew and Jenny were also very accomodating with our drop-off for the airport. They met us at Christchurch airport at 3 in the morning as we had a 5 am flight and collected the van from us. This was a god send as we had originally pictured ourselves getting sleep in the airport before our flight.
All in all I cannot recommend Cruzy Campers highly enough and will hopefully be booking with them again if we get back to NZ in the future. Thanks Andrew and Jenny.

Cruzy Campers did not disappoint us and we chose them for many reasons. No hidden costs, good reviews, prompt replies to queries.
As NZ is an island with mountains, you can expect a variation of weather which can disrupt your travel plans. The Cruzy
campers cope with all weathers, from freezing to heat. We had to use the onboard heater when penguin watching in the south,
the airconditioner when it was hot at Mt Cook, often sat outside with the supplied table and chairs, it climbed up all the mountain passes, and came safely down. The constant hot water from the engine, even hot in the morning, was great. The porta-potti was not used because NZ facilities are world best, even in the DOC sites, water flush toilets with electric hand dryers!!
The campers are small enough to get into all those fabulous picnic spots with million dollar views for meal breaks and easily parked in towns.
The camper has plenty of power and cruises easily. Gas cooking good and hardly uses much gas.
Radio, dvd player ok and has aux input for IPods. Seating and bed comfortable and configuration works well with rear and side exits available.
Andrew is as good as his word with help and sincerely wants you to have a good holiday. Ask as many questions as you like, and he will answer them promptly,
He is a campervaner himself. We have done Europe in a VW Kombi for 9 months , camped, caravanned etc all our lives, so were particular in
choosing our vehicle and rental company.

Our experience with Andrew and Jenny was nothing short of superb!

We were a group of three, doing a loop around the South Island all of December.

However, our interaction with Andrew started way back in Aug/Sept, where we were teeming with questions and had no one to talk to.

I popped by this site, found rave reviews about Cruzy, and was pleasantly surprised to find a Skype account where I got a reply almost instantly!

Andrew was unbelievably helpful, with a great sense of humour, and this was consistent throughout our experience.

The vehicle was reliable and clean, everything worked as advertised. The layout was well thought-up, and the three of us really appreciated the various compartments (as you can imagine it is a pretty small space to work with)

Lastly, the charges were transparent and provided fantastic value!

I'll be back soon, and I have no doubt of who I'd call when I plan my next trip =)

My fiance and I spent nearly 3 weeks cruising around the North and South Island and had the trip of a life time.

We were met on time at our accommodation in Auckland and had a hassle free time the whole way. Andrew was always on the phone if we needed him ( only once and it was us not knowing how to properly work the fridge.... ) and was always prompt and helpful.

We had an automatic diesel hiace which although it wasn't the most modern of vehicles it did the job absolutely fine, never missed a beat and was extremely well looked after. It was a good size - not too cramped but not too bulky or large.

We'll be back in NZ in the future and will definitely use cruzy again and would recommend to friends and family.

Cheers Andrew!

Simply what they say — it's cruzy! Communication and service was top notch and the vans are in good condition. Andrew and Jenny really know how to run a business. What separates them from the rest is the outstanding personal care and attention to detail — fully equipped vans with all the kitchen tools, laundry line and pegs, cell phone, maps, flashlight, table and chairs, BBQ — they don't miss a thing. These extras are what seals the deal and makes them stand out from the bigger companies. Two nails in tires during our trip and Andrew had us sorted in minutes. Go for it, you won't be disappointed. So great!

We recently returned from a 2-month trip to NZ. The first month was on the south island: 4 nights in Christchurch then Jenny delivered us our Cruzy Camper. It was our home for 25 days, and 3500 km later, Andrew picked it up at our CC hotel. We could not have asked for better service, or a better rental experience. Thanks Andrew, thanks Jenny! All the best to you!

We love NZ, so we have been there for the 4th time for 6 weeks
This time we hired a Cruzy camper and that was the best of all.We had a lot of questions and the response of Andrew was always very quickly. We asked some extra things in the campervan and that was also possible.
There was a GSM in the van and we were very lucky with the Hema-map with so many information. We think, that Cruzy campers gives value for money.Of course we want to go to NZ again and then we like to have a Cruzy Campervan.

This was also our third campervan rental (with different rental companies) in NZ, and last not least we own such a
camper van type since many years in Germany. With this experience you might look at things differently, but we were in general very happy with Cruzy Campers.

A huge advantage to other companies was the very easy pick-up and drop-off procedure near the airports and outside usual office hours.
Just to compare: in Sydney it took us nearly three hours until we were on the road, in Christchurch just 20 minutes. And handing back the camper was as easy. The car was easy to handle and ran well throughout our trip with a very moderate diesel consumption of about 10 ltrs/100kms. Though we have seen more practical solutions on the
layout of the interior and on the way the bed had to be put together we were quickly getting used to it and felt quite comfortable. The van was equipped with everything we needed (and more). Hot water was heated through the engine, there was even a cute shower solution
available. Though we have the same freezer in our van we never managed to get this freezer running on propane, but as it also runs on 12 and 220 V this was no big deal.

Though we only used it once for drop-off instructions the supplied mobile phone is certainly a good feature in case you run into problems. The written instructions were sufficient and also we had a camping and road atlas and a Lonely Planet guide in our van - if we had known before it could have saved us a few pounds on our baggage
allowance ;)

Communication was easy and all mails were responded to very quickly. Just make sure that if anything changes in your flight itinerary to get an explicit confirmation by Andrew. It might save you an hour waiting in very quiet Christchurch airport at night ;)

Again, all in all we were very happy with this rental, excellent value-for-money and an extra star for the uncomplicated take-over and drop-off!

We visited NZ for 7 weeks back in October 2010. We found out about Cruzy Campers via this website and feel that all of the positive feedback and 10/10's are well justified. Very quick to answer emails and enquiries and competitive pricing.

We were met by Andrew in Auckland airport as planned and then at the end of our trip Andrew met us at 3am in the morning to pick up the van at Chrsitchurch airport...fantastic service!

Van was clean, very well equipped and comfortable, perfect home for 7 weeks. All the ins and outs of the van were well explained before we set off. Supplied excellent maps and motorhome atlas.

Only had small electrical problem with van which Andrew immediately got sorted at the garage nearest to us, even though he was on the south island and us the north. We didn't even have to pay the garage and then claim the money back as many other companies make you do, Andrew just sorted it! Very prompt and impressive.

Highly recommend Andrew and his Cruzy Campers, would use again without a doubt. Thanks Andrew.

In November we visited NZ for 3 weeks. We approached several companies for campervan quotes and Andrew always responded promptly. Cruzy's quote was exremely competitive. Andrew met us at Auckland at the start of our trip and at Christchurch at the end exactly as organised. Our little camper performed brilliantly, driving well and being easy to park as well. It was extremely well appointed and comfortable. We had one minor enquiry re the camper near the start of our trip and Andrew responded straight away, sorting out the issue immediately, meaning we were on our way again without delay. I would not hesitate to recommend Cruzy Campers to friends and family. We intend to visit to NZ again and would definitely go with Cruzy next time. We searched Hi and Lo for an affordable hire company to use for our break from the support work we do in India and the Phillipines with streetkids and orphans.
Thank God we found Cruzy Campers.
Andrew is personally very involved and caring, and always prepared to go the extra mile, we fely soo safe with all the emails before we arrived, (not like some of the bigger companies)
I definitely Rate Cruzy and will do anything to raise the awareness of this wonderfull buch of people that take the effort to care about their clients, I cant recommend Cruzy Campers highly enough. Andrew is personally very involved and caring, prepared to go the extra mile to make his customers happy. Quick responses to any questions we had prior to arriving in NZ, always there if we needed to get hold of him during the trip. Not only picked us up at Christchurch airport, but droped us off at Auckland airport too)

Rooby became our home for 6 weeks (4 weeks south island and 2 weeks north island) and We slept like babies every night the duvet provided was real snugly, everything was there, maps linnen plates mugs wine glasses washing up liquid absolutley everthing. All we needed was food to go on our way and Andrew took us to the best supermarket to stock up. (where in the world do you get that kind of service). All the equipment one could possibly need in case of breakdown was there and the van was so reliable, clean and comfortable.

A budget van,,, yes but with with no compromise, We Had the perfect trip and chose the perfect company in my opinion.

I reckon that when God made the world he had loads of really great bits left over,, put them all together and made New Zealand.

If you are looking for a company that CARES and gives you a PERSONAL SERVICE, look no further.

After reading the reviews online, I decided to book with this company, and boy am I glad I did. I was picked up from the airport and taken to a lay-by (was a little unsure about this) and shown the van. The van was very very well equipped and the sheets and duvets fresh and clean. It was the little touches like tea and coffee in the van and washing up liquid – all I needed was milk, and I was set to go. Within an hour I was off on the road, considering this was at 11pm at night this was extraordinary. The mobile phone instructions and information leaflets were fantastic and really useful. I was able to communicate with the company during my stay and Andrew was always able to help.

I could not recommend this company enough I felt the personal service I received was second to none and when I return to New Zealand I WILL be using them again.

Thank you for enhancing my stay in a fabulous country with a magnificent little van. Thank you……

Before renting with Cruzy, I exchanged emails with several companies. Only Andrew responded quickly, answering all my questions promptly and courteously. He and Jenny picked us up at our hostel, showed us how everything worked, and stayed in contact while we traveled. Though we chose one of the oldest vans, which was a bit underpowered, EVERYTHING worked perfectly and we were very comfortable in our little home on wheels. To top it off, Andrew took the time and expense to mail a pair of trousers to the U.S. that my husband had left on the van. Great folks to work with. Reliable vans.

Cruzy Campers responds:

Hi Barbara and Tom.
You will be happy to know that we have now sold all those older vans. The next time you come you can get one of those powerful diesels that kept overtaking you going into Milford Sound. They have the same features, hot and cold water and because they are diesel they have air conditioning that doesnt break the bank just to keep cool.
Hope Tom enjoys the wearing those trousers again.
I know you enjoyed your time in New Zealand.
Hope you can come again soon.

We spent 2 weeks in one of their campervans. While I admit their vans are not the brand new versions ours was very tidy, well maintained and fit our needs perfectly at a great price. It had EVERYTHING we needed, except for the food. We drove over 3000k and had no problems whatsoever. It came with a prepaid cell phone which came in handy when trying to call 0800 numbers on the road. Also, the owner is very pleasant to work with and he will go out of his way to make your experience as good as it can be. Can't wait to come back.

Hi Brian,
thank you for your nice comments it was a pleasure to meet you.
You did get the oldest van in our fleet. It was the only one left available after you had to change your dates.
You will be happy to know that all those older ones have now been replaced. Mainly with 3 litre diesels that are not only more powerful but more economical to run and have hot and cold water and Air Con.
I know you loved the South Island, come back do it all again. You know there is much more to see in our beautiful country.

We first came on holiday to NZ in 2002 and liked it so much we have been back every year since! This year we spent almost 6 weeks in the South Island (there just isn`t time to do both islands justice in one holiday) and we hired a Camper from Cruzy for the first time.

We were delighted with the service (Jenny delivered the van to the backpackers where we spent our first night and Andy & Jenny met us to collect the van from the near the Airport on our last day. The delivery and colection was done very quickly, in a relaxed and friendly mannner and completely hassle free from our point of view.
The van was really well equiped and fantastic value for money. It even had hot water bottles which we didn`t need as the bedding was really cozy.Everything in the van was in good working order.

If we come back to NZ again we will definitely hire our van from Andy & Jenny
