A great place with all funds going straight to the community. Tour guides are very friendly and informative, living in the community themselves. The food is average but it is all about the experience rather than the meal quality. The trail around the area is nice and short, but was a little difficult to navigate due to no signage, however if you utilise the map you get an indication of what you are looking at. Cultural performers were very entertaining!

We enjoyed the authentic feel. History and culture focussed on this village provided by guide who lives in the village. It was interesting to see how their geothermal environment is used in everyday life - cooking, bathing in outdoor baths, corn directly from a superhot mineral pool. The view of the Pohutu geyser fabulous. The cultural performance was very good but would have liked more on customs around the opening challenge. There is also a track around part of the village that takes you to thermal area which was very interesting. Very good value.

Nice, because the people are still living here and the money we spend does not go to a company.

When you compare it to Wai-o-tapu there is nothing to see here! To expensive for what you get and the geyser isn't even in their park!

We were expecting amazing thermal pools with geysers and stunning colours. This was not it. If you are interested in the history of the village then you might enjoy it but we found it to be a very eerie place where people were still living, it felt like we were intruding and there wasn't many thermal wonders to see. Very expensive for what it is. There is a place on route to Lake Taupo that is better.

Some of the thermal parks around Rotorua are quite expensive but this was under $30. Brilliant guide gave an interesting tour looking at the different thermal pools etc, plus how the Maori use them. Includes a great cultural performance.

The visitor group was much too big. The guide spoke without any emotion, just like learned by heart, and in a ''slang'', foreigners don't understand. The show was fun, but not more than a show.

If you have to choose between the neighboring Te Puia and this then go here. You'll get closer to the local people and the concert they do is less crowded, but seemed more real.

For those that want to see 'authenticity'and 'Geo-thermal' activity, then 'Whaka'is the place to go. It is half the price of Te Puia and is the only "Real living Maori Village" in the country. Sure ... the 'Pohutu Geyser'is a bit further away than at Te Puia, HOW CLOSE DO YOU WANT TO BE?, What visitors need to be aware of, is that Te Puia BELONGED to this tribe! The rest you can work out yourself! The guides are accommodating and your admission fee goes back to the Village and not to the government ... worth a look.
