Friendly help from people of CampaSouth. Even whilst we didn't go to New Zealand because of Covid-19. Trip is postponed to December 2022
Basically the only affordable renter that has good reviews. And rightly so, our van (we had a budget hi-top) was old but in top shape. We had a great time with the van, no issues at all. There are no hidden fees or anything.
All in all a very pleasant experience!
If you rent a van from Susan and Graham, you are really part of the family. They are very kind and available all the time in case of troubles, that is a real plus.
I'm warmly recommanding CampaSouth !
Renting a campervan with Campasouth was a great experience. The campervan was in perfect condition and very well equipped for two people : linnen, outdoor table, chairs, duvet and blanket... Graham picked up us near the airport, he took the time to show us the van and we were also very well advised on our itinerary. They were very responsive by message and telephone when we needed more informations. Susan and Graham are amazing and they were very helpfull during the pandemic. We recommend Campasouth to everyone.
Campa South is absolutely fantastic. Graham and Susan are so friendly and helpful, they really go the extra mile to make your holiday perfect (in our case literally when they drove for hours in the late evening to bring us some stuff that we had forgotten ourselves). The campervan itself was very practical and perfectly suited to our needs. So, we were extremely happy that we chose Campa South and would definitely recommend them to everyone!
We rented a budget high-top campervan from CampaSouth. We were very happy with the van. The inside is very comfortable and practical, with a fridge and small freezer, tap with runnig (cold) water, and microwave (that only works if you are in a powered campsite). Everything worked properly, we didn't have any problems, even though we rented the older type. Don't expect the newest most modern van, but you get a very cosy and functional home for a fair price!
The owners of the company are very friendly, easy to reach by phone and very helpfull to explain things about the van, but also to give other information about traveling in New Zealand (weather forecast apps, information about the ferry, etc).
I would definetely recommend CampaSouth and the budget high-top campervan!
We rented our van from Graham and Susan March 3rd. We had to cut our trip short (Covid). First, the van was well set up and very clean. It was a 2002 Toyota Hi Ace high milage but ran perfectly with great mileage. Everything in the van worked perfectly, was well equipped for cooking and the linens and extra blankets were appreciated. Graham and Susan went out of their way to pick us up at the airport and bring us back more then a few times when we had flights cancelled. We would recommend them highly without reservation. Susan and Graham are very responsive and the campervan was great, with everything we needed! Smooth pickup and drop-off process. When we forgot something in the campervan they immediately sent it to us. We would totally recommend Campasouth!
We had such an amazing experience with Campa South Rentals. This is a small family run business so they always have your best interests at heart and we felt really looked after (even Jaffa the dog helped)! The vans are unmarked so very subtle compared to other companies which we loved. We got a small crack in our windscreen during our trip, Graham quickly responded and helped us sort the damage which he then reimbursed us for.We were so pleased with the van and service, really recommend!

Super family run business with excellent customer service. The van, although an older model, had everything we needed for a 2 week break. Nothing to fault. If we need to a hire a camper van in Christchurch in the future then Campa South Rentals will definitely be our first choice.
My friend and I loved our holiday on the South Island of New Zealand, and a large part of our positive experience was thanks to Campa South. When people ask us what our favorite part of the trip was, we both honestly agree that the campervan was probably one of the top highlights. Our campervan (new Toyota HiAce) became our little home away from home as we wandered around the island. The van was incredibly clean, ran well, had great amenities (there was even a coffee press!), and was extremely functional (we really liked being self-contained and having a solar panel to charge the fridge and lights). Before our trip I spent a significant amount of time researching campervans and campervan rental options. I settled on Campa South in part because the company is family owned, locally based, and has a great reputation.
Graham and Susan at Campa South were wonderful to rent from. My correspondence with them was seamless, friendly, and very quick. Graham spent over an hour with my friend and I walking us through all the in’s and out’s of the camper van to make sure we knew how to use the equipment, and ensure we had we good time while we were on the road. Susan sat down with my friend and I to go over the paperwork to make sure we understood the terms of the rental, answer questions we had about our itinerary, and provided great suggestions for where to visit on our road trip. After we returned the van, we discovered that we had left a pair of binoculars in the glove compartment. Graham was gracious enough to drive the binoculars to the airport to hand them off to us. We really appreciated Campa South, and thanks to their great customer service and quality campervans we had a fabulous time in New Zealand!
Everything from start to finish with Graham and Susan went so smoothly. This was our first time renting a camper so had lots of questions before we even put down a deposit ! As a 6ft 5 inch man, Susan provided additional photos to alleviate any concerns and we ended up going for the hi top hi ace which had loads of room for our stuff on our honeymoon for 3 wk trip of South Island .
Graham was waiting on arrival at the airport and took us the short 5mins to their place . I expected the next step before we got on the road would take a few hours! Susan quickly went through paperwork and provided us with some basic condiments left over from previous rentals while Graham showed us van and had handy pocket guide which we referred back to if we had any additional concerns . He also gave recommendations for trip regarding weather to get most out of our trip. The hardest thing was driving out of their yard away from their two beautiful brown Pedigree border collies Jaffa and Kailia!
Once we got the road we mainly stayed in powered camping sites for convenience of showers and proper toilets ! We did Freedom camp a number of nights and the fridge stayed on all night with lights and chargers too ! We cooked on gas most nights and it was still 3/4 full when we tried to refill it on return !
We never had any problem with the van on our trip and felt it was economical on petrol for the roads and distances we travelled ! It was only a few years old and in wonderful condition with ingenious space saving shelving and storage . I would highly recommend the hi top version even for two people if you have a lot of stuff like us . This allowed us to store extra clothing above the driver and passenger heads . It did feel a bit bigger on road with winds but I don’t think any tourist will be speeding on the roads.
All in all this was excellent service and felt great to be supporting a local Kiwi small family run business and would highly recommend it !
