John customized the trip for us, taking us not only to very good wineries but also to chocolate, honey, and cheese factory stores. We loved our stop at the Tasman Sea coast and the opportunity to see colonies of Gannett birds. Very special platter lunch made the full day tour very enjoyable. He picked us up at our hotel and returned us there. Small van and only six guests also nice.

I went on this Wine Tour with my partner Pete, he had been on a few before but this was my first so I didn't quite know what to expect, but it was absolutely fantastic! We did the all day West Coast Wine Tour and got way more than we bargained for! We booked for visits to four wineries including lunch at one of them but John (the tour operator) goes above and beyond stopping at multiple different scenic sights along the way and sharing a vast amount of knowledge about the local area and each sight we stopped at! All the wineries were beautiful and lunch was amazing! Highly recommend and would definitely go again!
Imagine our surprise when we turned out to be the only ones booked for this day's tour. I cannot believe we lucked out to have John all to ourselves. It instantly felt like a customized, personalized tour. Both my husband and I are science teachers and we are always interested in the natural flora and fauna on our travels. From the black iron sands at Kare Kare Beach on the Tasman Sea, to the beautiful waterfalls, John did not disappoint. He was quite knowledgeable and even recognized the tiny curled inner shell of the Spirula squid. Very impressive. After a morning outdoors, we headed for our first winery and lunch. The flight of wines we sampled as well as our lunch at Soljans Estate were definitely a highlight. From there, we toured three other wineries. It was instantly evident that John was well known and respected by all the winery staff. We were treated to five or six tastes at each winery, far more than the typical Napa or Sonoma tour. John made great suggestions along the way, but also let us find some of our own favorites. We would highly recommend this tour as it blends beautiful vistas and clean, fresh New Zealand air with wonderful wines, and of course, the consummate host in John.

My partner and I had the best Auckland wine tasting with John from Auckland Wine Trail Tours. From the precise pick up in the morning, the friendly atmosphere, his excellent knowledge and his ability to know what we would like even if it is not his thing. If you are wanting an awesome day out and want some nice wine, food and company then you have to go on a wine tour with John.
