Waterfalls and Wine Tasting with tour guide John is a sure bet. John is the perfect guide. Some guides talk the entire time and spoil the experience by doing so. John is friendly and laid-back. He talks just the right amount! He will guide you to some beautiful trails to see amazing New Zealand beauty, as well as to four or five wineries that are unique and interesting. His van held eight people which made for a lovely, casual day that we truly enjoyed and would do again in a heartbeat.

John gave us a great tour of the area north of the city. He was very informative and did a great job listening to what we wanted to see and do. We enjoyed the small amount of hiking to see the waterfalls and beaches, but he was also able to get some great views for the older couple who had booked with us and couldn't walk very well. The wineries we went to were very friendly and John was also able to give us extra information about the selections. We loved this tour and would do it again.

We did the Matakana tour with John. It was a well constructed trip. Whilst the main interest was on wine the "side" trips to chocolate, honey and the giant kauri tree were most welcome. My guests were from Canada and thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. The vineyards were well chosen and we were well looked after at all three - Brick Bay, Sculptuream and Heron's Flight. The latter was particularly good. John is extremely knowledgeable and provided an appropriate commentary during the trip. The pick up and drop off at our hotel was really helpful.

Auckland Wine Trail Tours exceeded our expectations. John went out of his way to customize our tour. We were on a Celebrity cruise. He already had an afternoon tour scheduled with other passengers on the ship. We wanted a full day so he picked us up in the morning, took us on a private excursion, then dropped us off at a great winery. We had a wine tasting and lunch while he picked up the other participants. During the afternoon we had a small group tour/tasting at three other wineries. This was one of our very favorite outings in New Zealand!

We went on a half day wine tour just outside of Auckland with John. He was a fabulous tour guide with lots of interesting information about the area and a great sense of humor. We were impressed with all three wineries that we visited (The Hunting Lodge was our most favorite), and our only regret was that we did not opt for the full day tour. We hope to return to NZ someday, and when we do, we will definitely do this tour again.

Waterfalls & Wine Tour.

A Superb day out sightseeing and taking in some on New Zealand best wine producers.
John who runs the tour is a very knowledgeable chap who entertains you on the trip and you make your way to the black sand beach that featured in the file The Piano and then onto one of the waterfalls that was shown in Xena Worrier Princess. Some great view of the beach and waterfalls followed and great sightseeing from a comfortable and easy access minibus. Then on to a very nice lunch at one of the wineries followed by a great afternoon visiting four local wineries; offering tastings of their locality produce wines and the option to buy some to take home.

John offers a local pick up to Auckland city areas, such as the Sky Tower or Ferry Terminal and is a very good host, entertaining and great at showing you the highlights of the area, history of the vineyards and notes on the wines they produce. Very good tour and well worth booking.

This tour was amazing! We had a group of 6 and every one of us had the most incredible day! John was fantastic; he was informative, fun, and had the answers to all of our questions! No one was sure what to expect going into the tour but it was more than any of us could have expected and was a highlight of my trip!
All of the wine stops were amazing and we had to repack multiple times to fit all of the wine we bought into our bags.
I would recommend this to anyone traveling to Auckland. The sites are beautiful and you hit spots you would never think or know of!
The price is incredible for all that you get as well!
Thank you John for such a wonderful experience!

John provided a wonderful tour. We took the Waterfalls and Wine Tour. John picked us up promptly at our hotel in Auckland. Two other couples accompanied us. We saw the rainforest, a black sand beach and waterfalls in the morning. Then we had a very nice lunch at a lovely restaurant and visited four wineries. The wineries were each very different, and provided an interesting variety of New Zealand wines. We were back at our hotel right on time.

We did the all day West Coast Wine Tour and got way more than we bargained for! We booked for visits to four wineries including lunch at one of them but John (the tour operator) goes above and beyond stopping at multiple different scenic sights along the way and sharing a vast amount of knowledge about the local area and each sight we stopped at! All the wineries were beautiful and lunch was amazing! Highly recommend and would definitely go again!

Imagine our surprise when we turned out to be the only ones booked for this day's tour. I cannot believe we lucked out to have John all to ourselves. It instantly felt like a customized, personalized tour. Both my husband and I are science teachers and we are always interested in the natural flora and fauna on our travels. From the black iron sands at Kare Kare Beach on the Tasman Sea, to the beautiful waterfalls, John did not disappoint. He was quite knowledgeable and even recognized the tiny curled inner shell of the Spirula squid. Very impressive. After a morning outdoors, we headed for our first winery and lunch. The flight of wines we sampled as well as our lunch at Soljans Estate were definitely a highlight. From there, we toured three other wineries. It was instantly evident that John was well known and respected by all the winery staff. We were treated to five or six tastes at each winery, far more than the typical Napa or Sonoma tour. John made great suggestions along the way, but also let us find some of our own favorites. We would highly recommend this tour as it blends beautiful vistas and clean, fresh New Zealand air with wonderful wines, and of course, the consummate host in John.

John offers a labour of love - taking small groups to wineries north of Auckland. The full-day tour is particularly good because it includes birdlife (including gannet nesting areas), dramatic scenery and several wineries, all of which were very good, and many of the wines were excellent. As wine lovers and having visited wine areas all round the world, this wine tour was up there with the best.
Picked up from our motel, which was out of the way for John, and then to add an Australian nephew at the last minute was all easily dealt with and no fuss!
The information on the tour was just what we wanted, besides the wine knowledge the history of the West Auckland wine district was very interesting and showed just what and who our country is made up of.
We were talking to great grandchildren of the owners who establshed the wineries.
The American on the tour joined in with us and was fun and we had a great day at 6 wineries, lovely lunch at Soljans and out to the Gannet colony on the wild west coast.
All the wine tastings were very generous and they offered good prices and deals for the tourists.
We were deposited back to our out of the way motel. Just the way to enjoy your wines and not have to drive afterwards!
Thanks John. Will recommend to all.

A couple of days before taking our flight back home we decided it would be great to finish our holidays with a winery tour. We found John's tour on the net, gave him a call and it was arranged. As simple as that!

Since we were a bit short on time, we took the afternoon tour and visited 3 vineyards around Auckland. Each of them were quite different: big producer, Sauvignon Blanc pioneers, family business. The range of wine we tasted and the interesting conversations with John and the people at the vineyards made for a nice introduction to the Kiwi winemaking culture and we learned a lot about the art (not to mention the tasty wine!).

John came and picked us up in Auckland and after the tour drove us back to the city center, next to where we wanted to have dinner, perfect!

Altogether a very enjoyable experience. If you start your holidays in Auckland but plan to visit vineyards in the rest of the country this could make for a very nice introduction to the subject.

I can say that it was one of the highlight of our holidays in New Zealand.

One last tip: be sure to make room for a few bottles in your luggage!

This was the first wine tour we've ever done and were very pleased with our experience. We were picked up at our Parnell hotel, toured 3 different west coast wineries, and returned back to our hotel again. Each winery was quite different, we sampled many lovely wines of different types, and saw some interesting countyside. The staff at each winery were most accommodating, friendly and informative. John was a great host and explained the history of the wine industry in this area as we drove along. We would definitely recommend this tour, and the full day tour would be even better, I'm sure.

Having been to Waiheke Island before, I wanted to try a new place for wine tasting and happened upon the Auckland Wine Trail Tours website. The full-day "Waterfalls & Wines" tour sounded great, and indeed it was! So much so that I decided to choose that destination to propose to my girlfriend (who is now my fiancee and soon-to-be-wife!). I called up John -- our tour guide and wine expert -- to arrange everything beforehand. It turned out we would be the only ones on the tour that day (it was a weekday), so it was even more perfect.

In the morning John picked us up and drove us to the Arataki Heritage Centre -- along the way giving us a brief history of New Zealand and telling us our plans for the day. After giving us time to soak in the views of the Waitakere rainforest, as well as overlooking the Manukau Harbour, we went on a short hike to Karekare -- a beautiful black-sand beach where they filmed scenes from the movie "The Piano" -- and spent some time there. We then walked a bit to this beautiful, secluded waterfall where I popped the question. John knew to give us some privacy but ended up being our only witness! It was incredible. The rest of the day whizzed by because we were so happy but we had a wonderful wine tasting and lunch at an awesome winery, followed by wine tastings at three other quiet and private vineyards famous in the West Auckland area. Not only were we able to try a large selection of wines -- often completing the entire wine list available for tasting! -- John was extremely helpful in the process, talking us through the wines and giving us more information to help us enjoy our visits.

I can't recommend this tour -- and John in particular -- enough. He gave us just the right amount of privacy when we wanted it, but was always available to talk us through what we were seeing, where we were going next, and the wines we were tasting. I hope to join another one of his tours again soon!

We had such a great afternoon with John and our tour group. Lots of laughs indeed!

The day we set out for the tour was overcast and a little grey however, this turned out to be the most perfect day for a tour of the countryside. Such a beautiful way to escape the city.

My only advice:
*Eat a big lunch before you embark on the afternoon tour - there is a lot of wine tasting to be done
*Do it on your first day in Auckland to ensure you have PLENTY of time to enjoy some of the most amazing wines you sample on the tour. We wish we had bought bigger suitcases!

Thanks again John for a wonderful afternoon x

John was a great host for our party of 3 the afternoon of our tour. He picked us up at the appointed time, gave us a summary of how the tour would go, and then efficiently navigated the traffic to get us out of the city into the wine country. At each stop, John gave an overview of the vineyard before we went inside, then stepped back so the vintner could give the information on the wines available for tasting. John was able to elaborate on the subject and made suggestions on the wines to taste. Because we were a small group without lots of questions we had time to get out of the van to take pictures along the scenic drive. With still more time on the tour, John took us to a micro-brewery where we got to sample (paid) a variety of beers made on the property. All-in-all, a delightful, education, and relaxing experience. John's friendly nature, good sense of humor, knowledge of the wine, vineyards, country-side, and the micro-brewery contributed to a wonderful outing for us.

My partner and I had a limited amount of time available to us in Auckland, and we wanted to experience as many different wineries in the area as we could. We were interested in both commercial and boutique wineries.

We couldn't have asked for a better tour or tour guide! The whole day was superb. John is an excellent host and he really knows his way around the wineries. They all know him and all give his tour the best service possible.

Quite often John would be telling us all about the upcoming wineries as we approached and the exact comments made by John were echoed by the wineries staff - which just goes to show how well John knows what he is talking about.

We did the "coast to coast" full day tour. It was a really fun day, with some great wine, good food for lunch and some really interesting scenery. Beware, though, that it is quite a full day. By the end I was very, very "wined out".

Have no hesitation in recommending this tour, or this tour company.

It was a great day! We went on John's Wine & Waterfalls Tour.

John was really friendly and very knowledgeable, not just about the wines but also the local area and its culture. Unfortunate for us, it ended up pouring down rain that morning so it was bit disappointing that we were not able to see some of the picturesque views. We were still able to experience the beauty of the sub-tropical area along with the breathtaking waterfall.

The day never really cleared up but we made the best of our day and really had a wonderful time! John took us to one of the larger wineries in the area where we had a lovely lunch. The food was absolutely delicious and the company was even better! Then we spent the rest of the afternoon trying wines at a variety of wineries...it never rains inside the wineries! :)

It really turned out to be a wonderful day! Thank you John!

We went on the all day Wine and Waterfalls Tour with John. He picked us on right on time at our hotel. We then stopped to pick up 4 more people and we were on our way. We drove a good 100 miles on this trip so we got to see so much of New Zealand. John knows everything about everything so we felt very blessed to be with such a great tour guide, who also is a good photographer!! We visited 5 wineries in addition to the beautiful waterfall. We had a delightful lunch at the Soljan winery. May we say that John also knows a lot about wine!!!! We were back at out hotel around 5:30 PM. My wife and I took the full-day wine tour in mid-January this year. John Meadows arrived on time in a well-maintained vehicle and, because the group was small (a total of 4), he asked what kind of wines we preferred so that he could tailor the trip accordingly.

We visited only smaller, boutique wineries where it was clear that John is well-regarded by the owners. Our lunch, which was included in the price, was in a restaurant attached to one of the wineries and was quite acceptable.

In view of the small size of the group, we were able to ask John questions on a wide range of topics about life in New Zealand, so this was an added bonus.

All in all, an excellent value.

There was a good choice of meals included for lunch, and mine was well cooked with quality produce.

Went on an Coast to Coast tour with John back in May. Taken me a while to post as I was on a round the world trip so have a lot to do.

Great trip as it covered the more commercial wineries with a selection of wines from around NZ and three smaller independent producers. No pressure to buy but I did get a couple of desert wines for $10 each in a bin end sale that was just crazy.

John very knowledgeable and even though I was the only one on his tour (low season) he did not charge a premium rate.

I took the afternoon wine tour which consisted of two wineries and a side sightseeing trip to visit the west coast. My brother and I are novices when it comes to wine. John was very knowledgable when it came to wine and when it came to breaking it down for us. This experience is highly highly recommended. He was incredibly pleasant and trip in general was wonderful. I didn't know what to expect and am more than ecstatic that I booked this tour. It was well worth the money and more!

We took the Coast to Coast wine tour with John Meadows and had a wonderful experience. The wineries we visited were all very hospitable and shared their knowledge with us novices. Whether you are a complete wine novice (like me), an accomplished vintner, sommelier, or connoisseur, or even if you just want a gorgeous day in the North Island wine country with a warm, knowledgable and charming host (John Meadows), I urge you to sign up for an Auckland Wine Trail Tour. John took me to black beaches and a secret, spectacular waterfall; he explained about the flora and fauna, and taught me a ton about wine, with lots of interesting detail, and not an ounce of impatience about my lack of knowledge. He took someone who didn't know a Sauvignon Blanc from a Syrah and started me on the road to being able to identify and appreciate fine wine. What a tour! What a host! Don't hesitate for a moment to sign up for this one. It is worth every penny and more, and you will cherish the memory of a perfect day in New Zealand.

I had a fantastic time with John on the Waterfalls & Wine Tour, in the morning I saw a lovely part of Auckland that I wouldn't have seen if I hadn't taken John's tour.

John was very informative and able to answer all of my questions throughout the day (and indeed even before through the numerous e-mails I sent him).

It was just me in the morning, and I couldn't of felt more comfortable.. it was almost like being driven around by my uncle!

The wineries selected were fantastic, and obviously chosen with the customers in mind - my favourite wines were covered, along with those of the couple who joined the tour in the afternoon.

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this tour to anybody.. and if I get a chance I would love to take another one before I leave!

Thanks for a great introduction to Auckland John!

Spent a lovely day with John on the Coast to Coast wine tour, where we not only got to go to some lovely wineries, but also got to see some beautiful NZ countryside, including a short walk to a lookout overlooking the beach and a small waterfall. John was a great tour guide and very helpful in helping us select wines and even encouraged me to try a wine, that I previously thought that I disliked. John's recommendation of the tasting plate for lunch was spot on and the perfect lunch to have with a glass of wine. At the end of our wine tour, we were greeted with a view of a perfect rainbow, which John was happy to stop for, so we could take photos. A great day!

I was contemplating a 3 day stop-over in Auckland on my way to Australia as a solo traveler. I'm an avid wine lover so I contacted John to see if he had any availability for that weekend. I though a wine tour would be an interesting way to spend a day in the Auckland area recovering from jet lag and learning about wines that were new to me. Luckily he had a spot on the East Coast tour so I booked my flight and easily confirmed the tour with him online.

I'm so glad I did it! John is an easy-going, flexible and informative tour guide. He's also a responsible driver and knowledgeable about the history and geography of the areas we drove through on our way to the wineries. He was quite helpful with describing each vineyard before we arrived and he has a great working relationship with all of the people who work at these vineyards.

The East Coast Tour was a full day of tasting fabulous wines, meeting great people from all over the world and seeing parts of the North Island that you probably would not find on your own. It is truly beautiful scenery. We had a gourmet lunch at one of the vineyards and you can choose your meal from a real menu! We also made several stops that were not wine-related but enjoyable and interesting, such as the honey making center and the cheese shop.

This was the first of four wine tours that I took on my trip - 3 were in Australia - and I think the wine we sampled on John's tour was the best. They are all high-quality, friendly and professionally-managed wineries and most offer wines that are not available outside of New Zealand. I would have booked a different tour for the next day but it was already full. If I ever make it back there, I will definitely take one of John's other tours.

If you like wine or simply want to relax as a tourist and be chauffeured around a beautiful place and have a memorable lunch, book one of John's tours!

Part of my history is the French system of rating, in which a "10" was reserved for God, a "9" for the professor, and "8's" and below for mere morals. On that scale, John's tour easily earns an 8+. He is knowledgeable, articulate, and accommodating. I was fortunate to have him to myself for the Waterfalls and Wine tour--a morning of sightseeing, a delightful lunch, and an afternoon of mouthfuls of wonderful NZ wines. I appreciated his ability to attend to my tastes and guide my exploration of Kiwi whites.

No way my wife and I would have been able to find all of these places on our own; and even if we could we still wouldn't have know about the cultural and historical importance.

With regard to the wine tastings, John was very knowledgable about the wine regions, grape varieties and wine making processes. He definitely has very good rapport with the winery owners and managers, and it showed with the level of service we received at each winery. Thanks for a great trip.

Several colleagues (from several different countries) and I joined John for the Wine and Waterfalls and the Coast to Coast tours at the end of a recent business trip/conference to New Zealand.
This was my first time to New Zealand and I would never have imagined such beauty. The Waterfalls and Wine tour was the first one we took and it was fantastic. I learned so much from John about New Zealand. The Tasmanian Sea/Beach was the most gorgeous site of them all. I loved walking on the beach and taking beautiful photos. The lunch included was fantastic and you couldn’t ask for anything more.
The next day we went on the Coast to Coast tour. The sites and scenery were beautiful. John is very knowledgeable and it was very easy to listen and ask questions. The vineyards we visited were beautiful and the wine was phenomenal. I personally picked up several bottles. The lunch included in this tour was also very good. You were not left hungry at all.
I highly recommend both of these tours to anyone visiting or revisiting New Zealand.

I did the wine and waterfalls tour. John provides a great day touring the Auckland countryside. The morning visit to the rainforest and black-sand beaches was amazing and are memories that I will have forever. John was a knowledgeable, interesting, and entertaining host, who answered all our questions, and shared insight and information throughout the day.

When it came to the wine I thought John did a really nice job of asking all of us our preferences and then trying to tailor the visits to vineyards that we would all enjoy. The vineyards were all very welcoming and had a large selection of wines to taste. I came home with some really nice bottles that are very different than what I've tasted here in the U.S.

John's tour was definitely money well spent. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in seeing some of Auckland's countryside, who enjoys a good glass of wine and wants a knowledgeable, entertaining guide.

My husband and I did the full day wine and waterfalls tour and it was by far our favorite activity we did in Auckland! From the very beginning, John was a great guide!

We had so many questions about everything, and he knew the answers to everything and was very patient! The rainforest, black sand beach and restaurant were all wondeful, but our favorite was the waterfall! Something I will never forget...

We then went to 3 wineries and did tasting on MANY different wines. John was very knowledge in helping suggest what we would like. There were 4 of us on the tour, and John made it seem personalized to each of us and our wine tastes (which I knew nothing about wine before this). We ended up buying 6 bottles!!

My colleague and I had the pleasure of joining John for the Wine and Waterfalls tour at the end of a recent business trip to New Zealand. Having booked the tour online, we did not know what to expect, but the day spent with John was certainly one of the highlights of our trip!

John picked me up at sky tower and I felt right away that he was friendly.

There were three of us at the wine and waterfall tour that that. John took us to see beautiful rainforest, amazing waterfalls and a beach with black sand. During the time he explained really good about everything and if you had a question he could always answer it. He noticed each persons interest, and was very informative about those specific things you find interesting, which i find great! It was a great morning!

After we've seen this beautiful nature he took us to have lunch at a place that was really nice. The food was great too!

After lunch we spended the afternoon to taste wine at three different wineries. Same thing there, he really noticed what kind of wine you like, and incourage you to taste the ones that might fit your taste :) I felt that it really helped. I have a confession to make. This is the first time I've ever posted a review online. I always enjoy reading other people's, but I've never had the time or the desire to write one of my own. But the time that my friend and I spent with John left me with no excuse...I had to share the experience with those of you out there considering to do the tour.

We did the Wine and Waterfall tour. It was the New Zealand equivalent of the Howdy Doody Boat-Train-Plane...in other words, the tour had it all. We got to see beautiful black sand beaches that stretch on for miles, amazing plant life and an idyllic waterfall, which just so happens to be the location of one (or more) of the scenes from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers...you know..."go go power rangers...mighty morphin power rangerrrrrrrrrs!"

Did you see that bird? How about that weird looking cartoon-like tree? There isn't a question that John doesn't know the answer to. He very quickly figured out our personalities and told us stories and pointed out things of interest along the way that he knew would appeal to us. In fact, he was even able to figure out that my objection to certain wines is not the fact that they are "dry," but rather, the fact that they are "acidic." And all this time I thought I hated dry wine when in fact I quite like it!

We weren't the only people having fun on this tour. Our entire tour group (made up of strangers) bonded throughout the day and made plans to have dinner together later that night. We all agreed that this was an amazing and exciting tour.

Decent tour if you are short on time, but not a good value. We paid $235/pp for the east coast tour. We visited 4 wineries at around $5 each, a main course lunch at one of the winery restaurants. It probably would have cost us around $50 pp to do it on our own. Also included 4 free stops. Most of the places were just off the MWY 1. Choose one of the cheaper alternatives or drive the wineries yourself.

Reply: I remember distinctly the cost of 1 winery was $5, one was $4 and one was $5 or free with a purchase. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on the 4th and assume it was $10. The tour in now way included any luxury tastings or food. I don't doubt the guides knowledge in wine, though he was somewhat snobby, and no more knowledgeable when it came to local information and history than other guides I've had. The tour was not 8 hours either, we were back at the hotel an hour early and wondered where our last hour went. I found the description provided on your website to be rather misleading, and ultimately I was disappointed. I expect I would have been happier with one of the other tours available from the numerous companies in the Auckland region for a much cheaper price.

Reviewed almost 11 years ago

Auckland Wine Trail Tours responds:

Well I guess this proves these reviews are genuine!

No "luxury tastings" are mentioned on my site and lunch is included...

Sorry for taking up so much of your time.

“Theta”, thanks for taking the time to send in your review... my first ‘bad one’.
Very sorry you didn’t see the value in having a guide with 30+ years wine knowledge offer you door to door service, information, history, personal advice on an 8 hour tour. As you say we went to 8 attractions, but only 2 (not most) could be described as being ‘just off SHW 1’, as you claim. Most are way out in the country and would be quite difficult to find. Wine tastings are all included in the tour price and vary from $5 up to $10 which you probably didn’t notice. I would estimate if you hired a reasonable car with tourist insurance, petrol, tastings, lunch... you could try and do it yourself for between $190 - $210... but how would you find all the places to visit?

I booked the "Wines and Waterfalls" Tour with John in Feb. This was one of our last days in Auckland. I have to say that this was one of my favorite days out of a 17 day Australia/New Zealand Trip. Our day was very private, due to a "no show" couple, and it was GREAT! John is very knowledgable and friendly. I learned more about wine than ever before. My husband even became a fan of wine! This was a great experience. Recommed to everyone to take this tour with John.

Hi all!

We went on a full day tour of the superb vineyards around Auckland area. We live in AKLD and are your everyday people who enjoy wine but knew little about it.
John was very professional and so knowledge about not only the wines but the vineyards themselves. He made me feel comfortable to ask all the 'wine' questions that always been embarassed to ask anybody else. eg what does 'corked' mean? Do you make wine from eating grapes?
His wine knowledge also matched his general knowledge about the local area and gannet colony. We had a delicious lunch at a local restaurant as part of the trip.
It was fabulous day and one we will always remember fondly as we did go home with 12 bottles of lovely NZ wine and more knowledgable than before.
We would recommend this to other NZers and all our visitors. Thanks again John for the experience! Keep up the amazing work :)

We are a group of 12 friends, all passionate about wine, who booked the full day Coast-to-Coast tour with John prior to a cruise. We found him pleasant, witty, knowledgeable and very accommodating. We visited a broad spectrum of wineries, enjoyed beautiful scenery and a delicious lunch, and learned so much about New Zealand. Our day was perfect from beginning to end. My husband and I spent two wonderful weeks exploring Australia and New Zealand for our 30th anniversary, which included several wine tours. Without a doubt, the three and a half hour afternoon tour with Auckland Wine Trails was the most informative and enjoyable tour of the trip. John is fantastic. We were in a very small group - only one other couple - and before we left the hotel, he asked us about our personal tastes and interests. He was able to take us to 3 excellent wineries, where we sampled some of the best wines we have ever tasted . John has a broad knowledge of wine and viticulture, so we were able to learn a lot about New Zealand wine production.

We hope to return sometime to New Zealand, and when we do we will definitely schedule additional tours with John. We can't recommend Auckland Wine Trails Tours highly enough.

Thanks for a great experience, John, and we hope to see you again.

With only a short time in New Zealand and a yearning to try wines other than marbourogh sav blancs, Wine trail tours was the perfect choice. John's personality, professionalism and contagious enthusiasm for new zealand wines from both large and small wineries, combined with some sightseeing and a great lunch, made a great day out. Loved the small group numbers and flexibility about which wineries to visit. Highly recommended, thanks John

My mother and I chose John's Waterfall and Wine tour as we wanted to be able to combine sightseeing with the opportunity to taste some of NZ's spectacular Sav. Blanc.
John conducted our tour, even though it was just the 2 of us (something I am sure no other tour company would ever do!). It was the prefect opportunity to take advantage of John's excellent knowledge of wine, and also of the history and scenery. He managed to introduce us to many new wines, some of which are now our favourites.

I only had a few days to spend in the Auckland area and I thought before hand that a wine tour would not only be a great way to experience some of the wines of New Zealand but also a chance to see some of the country side and meet some of the people. I found John’s tour by an Internet search and once I had read all the positive reviews I signed on.

From the very first communication with John, I had a good feeling about him. On the tour I found him to be a very warm and friendly person, knowledgeable not only of the wines in the region but of the history as well. I took the, Coast to Coast Tour, and I can recommend it highly. If I had longer to stay, I would have taken some of John’s other tours, I enjoyed his company and the tour that much.

Thanks again, John.

I just wanted to echo the comments of the other reviewers. My wife and I took the Coast to Coast tour and loved every minute of it. The tour size was very small (two other people), allowing for lots of personal interaction with John and he made every effort to include wineries that appealed to everyone's tastes. We ended up with a perfect mix of large and boutique wineries that really captured the essence of North Island wines. We would highley recommend the tour as a great way to spend a day, sample some great wines, and see some great scenery along the way.

John Medeows picked us up at our hotel promptly and took us all over the place, his conversation was very informative, explained everything to us. He is very knowledgeable about the wine industry in NZ and he knows his wines. He really enjoyed this tour with him. Everybody should take this tour when visiting Auckland. We highly recommend it. My wife and I, on a honeymoon, selected the Waterfalls and Wines Tour. Beyond Wow are the two words that come to mind. First of all, let me tell you we've been on about 4 tours over the 2 weeks we spent near and outside of Auckland, and John Meadows was great. He mixed some history with fun and took us to some cool seemingly "locals only" type spots. The waterfall was breath-taking and the beach we when to seemed like we were the first persons on earth-tall mountains on either side, beautiful beach, warm sand. Oh, and the wineries were the icing on the cake. He selected some wineries that were top notch- and I'm a picky wine snob too. John was not rushed, easy to get along with, honest, and all-around good guy. He really sets the bar on touring. Cheers. And yes we'll be back. Maybe that Coast-to-Coast tour next !!!

The waterfalls and wine tour with John Meadows was hands down one of the best experiences my brother and I have ever had. If you are visiting Auckland city, I highly recommend doing this tour because you really get to see what's outside the city and see how beautiful the country really is. You can't beat a day of going to the beach, checking out really cool waterfalls, going up to some of the highest points overlooking Auckland city, followed by a gourmet lunch and then on to doing some fantastic wine tasting. Oh, and you'll be seeing nothing but beautiful green land and plenty of sheep, lambs, and cows in between. This really was the highlight of our trip and it was well worth every penny.
