Only $4 one way for adults. It was a very short ride, but we had a nice view! And we walked back through the Botanic Gardens, that was a nice walk.
Very nice trip and drop off for the very nice botanical gardens.
Not really spectacular. The botanical gardens are nice at the top. Also, the views are quite nice.
I like the light display through the tunnel.
Lovely ride in the cable car and walk down to the city.
Beautiful views, nice walk back through the botanical gardens.
Gielis and Anne
Funny little ride uphill. Takes only a couple of minutes. Nice view of Wellington along the way. Still too expensive so take a one way ticket and walk back downhill through the Botanical Gardens which are really pretty!
A nice and easy way to get up to the botanical gardens, at the top there is a beautiful lookout with stunning views of Wellington.
Beautiful views, worth it to go up the hill.
Sabrina and Hannes
Nice little museum about the history of the cable cars in Wellington, old cable car to sit on and lots of information.
Nice views, though not as good as those from Mt Victoria. Too expensive for such a short trip. The best part is reaching the Botanical Gardens.
Chloe and Guillame
Nice, let us discover Wellington in an original way. Rose garden was very beautiful.
Great opportunity if you would or could not walk!
Not just going to the top of the mountains, but in style. The short but surprisingly amazing trip of five minutes in the red cable car is a must do in Wellington!
Worth a look at the top = definitely enjoyable riding a bit of Wellington's history.
Great thing to do in the city as it ends at the Botanical Gardens which overlooks the city and harbour. Great novelty and awesome light display in tunnels currently. Suggestion: get a one way ticket and then walk down through the gardens to the city.
Walk to the Cable Car and then up to the Botanic Gardens and back to the city to catch the ferry. Walk around 1/2 to 1 hours. Nice lookout over the city.
Nice drive through a tunnel.
A nice idea but underwhelming experience given what it costs. A significant amount of money to travel a very small distance. However, there is a novelty factor attached.

Low price but not that spectacular.
Nice view from the top as well as stunning tracks through the botanical gardens.
Nice view, but too short.
Lovely cable car going up the hill, the way down through the botanic gardens makes it a complete and good tourist activity.
Hard to find. Interesting. Worth it for the view. On a nice day it would be great.
Pretty little train in the centre of Wellington. We took it from the botanical gardens.
Wellington Cable Car is very old and looks interesting. But the ride is really boring and the view is not special at all. Luckily it is very cheap.
Pretty similar to the ones in San Francisco so not that special.
A little short, nice view from the top.
Interesting but very short drive, nice botanic gardens on the way back to the city.
Stella and Merle
Only $4, offering a great view and not too expensive.
Pay $4 for a ride from the city to the top of a mountain in Wellington. Enjoy an amazing view of New Zealand's capital from above, and take a walk back through a beautiful botanical garden.
Five minute ride to the top of a hill with views of the city and the bay. We walked back down which only took half an hour - maybe just buy a one way ticket.
Historic cable car that takes visitors to a beautiful lookout and the city's famous botanical gardens.
Funny to ride the cable car to the top and then wander around in the beautiful botanical gardens and enjoy the beautiful views of the city.
Very good to see something from Wellington.
Expensive and short, but a must do in Wellington.
A really boring ride to the Botanical Gardens. It is much too expensive for this short ride.
Walk through the Botanical Gardens, nice view and lookout.
A short but nice drive with the Cable Car up to the Botanic Gardens of Wellington.
Access savings worth hundreds of $$ on Top Ranked NZ Accommodation and Activities for just $1 per day.
Very short, but nice view.

It is a nice tourist activity, but very short. For $4 it was okay and you have a good view of Wellington.
It is not the longest drive for $4 one way up the hill but it is definitely worth it since you do not have to climb the hill. On your way back you can wander through the Botanical Gardens and grab a coffee near the rose gardens - loved it!
Lovely and old fashioned for a small price. The light art in the tunnel is made with love for details. Nice to combine with a walk through the Botanical Gardens.
Waste of time and money for a 1 minute drive with little bit of a view because of trees blocking most of the view.
Laura and Marie
Short fun, too much money for this (expected more).
Price for one ride $4 a bit high but worth it to pay and then walk down to the city centre through the botanical gardens (nice cafe at the top where the cable car track ends).
A nice little trip, to the Botanic Hills, was nice.
Pay for nothing, a lot of tourists - we had to wait long, no good views! The drive is only one minute! Better views are from Mount Victoria (without paying), very bad for tourists.
Nice historic experience but not so spectacular. Handy to get around.
It is $4 per person, not too expensive but it is very short and there is not a real interest in doing this. You can walk to the botanic gardens, it is easy and free!
Come back in the past with this old way of transport. Once you have reached the top you could enjoy the whole view of the Capital. Also it is the start of a nice walkway with a rose garden on the way.
I LOVE NZ
Fantastic Iconic Wellington Experience. Well worth doing, trip on historic Cable Car, museum and garden walk fantastic. BUT I found the attendant at the bottom ticket booth EXTREMELY rude and impatient. NOT a good look people!!!!
Fun journey. Takes only about 10 minutes. Pleasant walk down to wonderful rose gardens and begonia house/cafe. Good food.
Not cheap but a terrific way to get your bearings. Botanic gardens and observatory at the top. Cracking view across the bay towards South Island. Excellent at night as well.
Anne and John
Short trip, historic interest.
Andy & Lynnie Nevin
This is awesome, well worth the minimal charge.
Good but it is possible to get access to the botanic gardens by foot (not well explained!).
Loved it!! A hidden gem away from commercialism.
Thank You - to the thousands of travellers that have contributed to our Top Voted NZ Activities Map - it's free from Rankers.
Cable car was hugely overpriced, much better to have walked up.
Cute old cable car. Ride doesn't last long but you get good views of the city and the gardens are nice at the top.
Fantastic views and intersting little museum.
Cheap, no queues, lovely lovely city!
Well worth the view for $6.
Good to be on an old cable car, but the experience lasted only a couple of minutes, oh and they don't take an international student card.
Cute little tram which rattles you to the hill top where the views easily justify the cheap fare. Stop off halfway up and you might be lucky enough to watch a cricket match at the trackside university ground.
Nice ride for a reasonable price. The museum (for free!) is small but very good. Nice staff also very friendly and always eager to share a story about Wellington.
Too short for $5.
Almost no view, do not bother.
Ends in the Botanical Gardens and overviewing the town.
funny to try
Bit boring. It takes a really short time without any good views in the cable car. The view at the top was good, but not worth $10 p.p.
Fun. Goes up to free botannical gardens. Cheap. Beautiful views.
Super fun! Bought one way tickets to take the cable car up, but walked down. Great, beautiful walk down. Great way to save some cash.
Inexpensive trip up to Botanical Gardens and down to the parliament buildings - all excellent.
If your in wellington, I reccomend it.
This is more a method of transport up the hill for the locals that live up the hill or go to the university than it is a tour activity. The views from the top are very nice and offer a great photo opportunity, and it certainly beats walking up the hill. The cable car is a nice thing to do in combination with a walk through the botanical gardens, which are up the top. Not bad for pricing either, especially with student ID.
A nice ride to put into context an earlier age of Wellington life. The actual ride is relatively unexciting outside of the historical sense, and but a few minutes in the process, but the museum at top is well worth a visit. It can be reached for free by walking, or by-passed entirely if one wishes to explore the (arguably average and poorly sign-posted) Botanical Gardens. It is well worth the visit, with the history of the cable car development, Wellington's expansion and an insight into the society of the time. Parasols 'n stuff. A stock tourist staple of a visit to Wellington. Hardly life changing, but one would be lacking for neglecting it in a visit.
Interesting. Could be improved by providing further information.
Not as beautiful as every guide (lonely planet) is saying. For small ride, its expensive.
was nice but the weather was bad.
Easier than walking.
Nice sedate ride up the hill with great views of Wellington and surrounds. Well worth walking down through the Botanical Gardens - ferns, rock garden and rose garden are particularly lovely.
Provides good views of Wellington and good access to Botanical Gardens. Recommend one way tickets and walking back down.
Really good - we walked back through the Wellington Botanical Gardens.
It felt like San Fran! I got the student price. Good value.
You can take a nice picture from up the top. You can also buy one way ticket and walk down the garden easily.
I liked it. Something different. I was surprised that if tourists don't know to stand up then they don't open the doors for you. They should have a sign telling us about it.
Worth worth it when you go to Wellington. The locals use it too.
Cool ride awesome views at the top, a must do.
Absolutely beautiful gardens to walk back through and interesting info about the gravesites at the end. Cheap too!
Great value and top views. Would not be worth it if the price went up too much.
This was nice, a little bit historic. Enjoyed walking back.
Cab;e car is fun and not too expensive. Wellington botanical gardens are outstanding - old trees and well maintained. Really valuable place.
Fun and inexpensive.
Fantastic, the experience and views and price were great.
Enjoyed going up in the train and a pleasant walk down. Views from the top are excellent. Gardens excellent.
Worth doing, but only uphill as the walk down through the Botanical Gardens back to the City Centre is really good.
Weather was really crap - rain, rain and more rain.
Nice view, a good chill out activity.
