Great friendly couple with great pleasant customer service. Lovely Motorhome had a lovely trip down to New Plymouth, suited us to the ground with warm underfloor heating that was lovely. Very comfortable to travel in but me personal would prefer a automatic. Bed was spacious and comfortable very clean throughout. Would recommend to anyone who loves to travel. A+++++

We highly recommend Kiwi Motorhomes. We booked with them mainly for the promise of personal service and we were not disappointed. We rented Te Arawa for four weeks in Feb/Mar 2020 and it was a really comfortable motorhome, well-equipped with everything you might need. Leon and Varnier met us when we collected the motorhome which was a great touch, and we felt comfortable being able to contact them throughout our 4 week trip with any questions we had. They responded very quickly to our messages and nothing was too much trouble.

We booked with Kiwi Motorhomes for the last month of our 2 years in New Zealand. After covid struck and stopped our original travel plans we were a bit sad and then we lost our jobs so with a month left to wait for a flight, and things starting to go back to normal, we decided to hit the road and see the west coast (the only bit we hadn't seen on our original trip) we searched for the right camper to house us for the time period with all of our belongings and we found kiwi Motorhomes. Needless to say we are so grateful that we did!!

We stayed in Jordy, she was a fantastic machine! A dream to drive and she felt like a 5 star hotel. The bedroom was huge and so comfy with ample cupboard space. A seperate shower and toilet on board really made a difference for when we stayed off grid on the freedom sites.

The kitchen was perfect with an oven as well as 3 ring hob so we could make any meal we fancied. The fridge was great and even had a mini freezer inside so I didn't miss out on my ice cream.

The living room space was so spacious and cozy and it made all the difference having the captain seats up front that spun round to add extra chairs to the dining table.

The cab was spacious and well equipped with sat nav, aircon/heating and loads of overhead space. The living area also had a separate heater and water heater all on the main control panel. This was literally the greatest thing ever! Being able to keep warm whilst traveling New Zealand in the winter was a must and I was so grateful to Chris who delivered the van for explaining how the heating system worked as it was a godsend!!

Chris gave us a full tour and detailed rundown of how everything worked which was so helpful and made us feel alot more at ease when it came to dump station runs which actually turned out to be not that bad.

Overall an incredible company to book a camper with I will definitely be going to them again when we return to New Zealand. 100% would recommend!!!

What and absolute joy!! Our family are often trecking off to different localities for weekends, booking batches and whilst travelling, we’d pass a motorhome or a convoy of them but never given it a second thought, but now where hooked.
Our trips have been solely intent on getting to the destination yet we now realise, thanks to Kiwi Motorhomes, that the ‘journey’ can now be a whole series of wonderful destinations that ‘you’ choose.
Instead of pulling into a crowded auto barn or a busy food mart, you can pull over at a scenic sight you’d always bypassed and soak in the atmosphere in a relaxed fashion without the normal stress and urgency of “getting to the place”.
Our children enjoyed the relaxing travel experience and all the comforts that ‘Muscles’ had to offer which meant our holiday started when we left not when we got there.
We’ve learned that we can see and enjoy more places in the same amount of time that we would usually devote to a ‘Book-a-batch’ arrangement and you have the freedom to go where-ever when-ever.
Sooooo Cooool. Almost as cool as Leon and Varnia who are the nicest people you’ll meet. So warm and accomodating, going out of their way to tailor the comforts to your liking. We love the name and story given to the campers also, giving a sense of travelling with their guardianship (kaitiakitanga) keeping us safe, so ‘Muscles’ felt great to be in. Lol
My wife and I are already planning another trip next month and Kiwi Motorhomes are our choice. Good people with great values and a genuine desire to share joyful family experiences. Thanks so much Leon and Varnia.

There is the odd time in your life when you make a right decision. Hiring a camper from Kiwi Motorhomes was one of those right choices.

Leon and Varnier were just great people who couldn’t do enough for us. They were always on the end of a phone for any advice and never made us feel like the total campervan novices we were. We did nearly 2000km with ‘Sasha’, and still wish we had longer together. We intend to reunite with her when we tour the south island this summer.
I goes without saying, we would use their campers again in a heartbeat. Kiwi Motorhomes is in our view a company that deserves to do well.

Kiwi motorhomes provided our family with an excellent service from beginning to end. It was reasurring to know that from the off we had their support with any questions we had. This gave us complete piece of mind from the moment we booked.

Our travels coincided with the Covid 19 lockdown and despite the challenges this presented Leon provided support and offered flexibility to meet our needs throughout even stocking our motorhome with food, providing a BBQ and regularly checking in to make sure we were all ok. It's not often I give reviews, but now and again, I find good cause to! Its easy to give a good review of a company when you've had no problems, but a true test of service is how you are treated when things go wrong, and my god on these terms, Kiwi Motorhomes were tested, our holiday ended in a rather abrupt finale in the heat of the covid 19 crisis, and Kiwi Motorhomes came second to nobody, the level of support was just incredible, at a time when we were stranded thousands of miles from the UK, in a foreign country, with all flights cancelled, these guys were simply fantastic, there's not enough characters available in this section to truly cover our experience, but you can see my review in full on Google or Facebook!! If you want THE BEST, book with Kiwi Motorhomes, you'll get the best vehicles, and the best support, stop looking anywhere else, there is no need, trust Leon and the team to take care of everything you need. Take the holiday of a lifetime, with confidence you will be supported all the way. THANKYOU LEON, VARNIER, CHRIS and anybody else in the team, you are all fantastic.

We went to new Zealand and travelled with a motorhome for 19 days. From our experience it was tricky planning the trip as it was jungle when it came to choosing motorhome vehicle and motorhome company. The larger providers have standardized, rather expensive offerings that travelers probably choose out of convenience, unsecure about other options. We instead decided to go with Kiwi motorhomes which we eventually found googling around. It turned out for the best - In short: For a better price they provided us with a top notch motorhome, gave us the best of service and really went to extents to help us optimize our trip. Everything from getting prepared, pickup, service along the way and drop off worked out supersmooth. All in all everything turned out for the best going with Kiwi motorhomes and we would really recommend it to anyone travelling to NZ. We usually do not write reviews but we felt this time that it was the least we could do, as they really made sure we could have our dream trip.

We used Kiwi Motorhomes whilst on a recent holiday to New Zealand and weren't disappointed.
We were picked up from Auckland airport by Leon and introduced to our motorhome (Nate).
Leon and Varnier were fantastic and made sure we knew how everything worked, inside and out, before we set off.
The motorhome was clean and tidy, and we were left some essentials such as tea, coffee, toilet rolls etc which was a nice touch and meant we didn't have to go shopping straight away if we didn't want to.
The motorhome was fully equipped for 6 people, although there were only 4 (adults) of us. There were items such as gas and electric kettle, toaster, plates, cutlery, bedding, towels and more. We also had a satnav (which is essential), a couple of bikes with helmets and outdoor table and chairs which came in very handy.
We had a fantastic time and knew that Leon and Varnier were just at the end of the phone if we had a problem or had forgotten how to use something.
The motorhome was great to drive (automatic) and was also surprisingly good with fuel economy.
There was enough space for us, 4 adults, we used the double bed above the cab and the back double bed, which we left as a bed all the time, and used the table at the front with the drivers seat and passenger seat, which swivel around fully.
We flew back from the south island from Christchurch Airport and met up with Chris who done a final inspection and dropped us off at the Airport.
We all had a fantastic experience and we are hoping to go back soon, when we do we will definitely be using Kiwi Motorhomes again.

The whole process from ordering to return was perfect. During the trip we also received weather warnings via the Wahtsapp, when asked they responded and helped immediately. The car was clean, well stocked with very good kitchen equipment including coffee, salt. Get in and drive. We are very satisfied with the Kiwi Motorhomes and can definitely recommend the company. All I can say is a massive thank you to Leon & Varnier for making our trip a memorable success. From day of arrival where we were picked up from the airport and then handed over Elva for our trip, we were made to feel like family. The motorhome was clean and spacious with all the amenities needed for our group of 4 adults and 1 child. What made it special was all the small things supplied that you don’t think of like tea, for that first much needed cuppa after a mega long flight. We had a slight problem with the fridge early on and after a prompt reply from our WhatsApp message to Leon and Varnier, this was easily resolved. All I can say is what a wonderful people and what a wonderful motorhome, we will definitely be back and most definitely will be choosing Kiwimotorhomes. My partner and I and our 7 month old baby rented a motorhome from Kiwi Motorhomes for a month in January this year. Having booked a motorhome in winter 2013 with one of the bigger companies, I made sure to shop around as motorhome hire over summer is substantially more expensive. I came across Kiwi Motorhomes and was attracted by the positive reviews, the family-owned aspect, and the fact that all their vans are unbranded. Leon replied quickly to my initial email, and communication was quick and easy all the way to booking. There was a small hiccup due to a double booking but this was swiftly rectified by an upgrade to their Te Arawa motorhome and a discount on price. I was pleasantly surprised that the car seat, outdoor chairs, tables, bikes and GPS were included as these often cost extra with the larger companies.

We were met with the van at Christchurch airport. She was exactly as described, in perfect condition, with fewer than 6000km on the clock. We were taken through the van bit by bit, and any questions we had were patiently answered. The van handled really well and we found the manual preferable on the windy and hilly roads. I noticed a real difference being in an unbranded van as to how the motorhome community welcomed us and it was nice to feel part of 'the gang'. When the hot water system showed an error code, Leon and Varnier responded promptly, talking us through resetting the system on a video call and then offering to find an engineer from their contact book local to where we were staying at the time. They were always available to us if needed and didn't worry about the couple of small things we'd broken (cup, glass).

Kiwi Motorhomes is one of the friendliest companies I've dealt with, you're made to feel like more than just a customer, and they are undoubtedly better value for money than your Apollos/Mauis! We would not hesitate to recommend and would book again if we ever return to this beautiful country.

The Navigation ( Navman) helped a lot as we didn’t know the area. The spacious area inside the van enabled two sisters to have comfortable separate sleeping quarters.

We rented 5 berth motorhome at Christchurch, Travelled for 44 days December to January, retuned in Auckland.

Motor home we travelled was brand new 15k km, well equipped, clean, many extra features, GPS, Wifi router, half of the trip we were self contained.

If we had an option to extend our rent additional month, we certainly do that.
We felt cosy and comfort like it was our NZ house.

Sadly, we damaged motorhome, twice, Leon and Varnier were decent and fair with the charges.

We had many fears for renting motorhome from a small company, each one of the fears disolved w/time.

Our 44 days were not enough.. We will return, we will rent Kiwi motorhome for sure.

Our trip with Kiwi Motorhomes was Amazing.
It's a family company and they are actually listening and very proactive to your needs.
We were hit by the statistics when in the week 2 out of 5 our first camper decided to climb its last hill in the middle of nowhere in south Island (engine failure). We managed to call an assistance, in the next hour a mechanics took us to the closest city for the night. The day after, Kiwi Motorhomes managed to get us a brand new big motorhome so that we could continue and end our trip the best way. Thanks so much to the people who took care of us (and drove the motorhome 5hrs straight to us!).
Please note we were lucky we could have a replacement camper : it was only the beginning of peak season and I guess some people in our case may have to end their aventures in car + lodges but that would have been fine anyway : I'm sure the staff would have come up with a solution for us! Don't hesitate to contact them. I would totally come back again with kiwi motorhomes.

Absolutely loved Bella from Kiwi Motorhomes! We had an awesome trip during the 2 weeks in the South Island of New Zealand. Highly recommend, esp if you are going for your honeymoon and require some additional added touch.

The campervan was luxurious, spacious, and modern, with added personalised touch in the form of Venetian blinds on all windows, which gave us total privacy. I compared that with many other campervans that we saw during our trip, and there were none with these blinds. Loved it! Driving was a breeze, and we enjoyed the front swivel chairs as well during communal dinners. Hot shower in the fully self contained campervan was a huge plus when we tried our hands at freedom camping. We even had a movie night with the DVDs provided, not to mention the fun board games that were included.

Service from Kiwi Motorhomes was excellent and beyond expectations. Chris, who handed over the campervan, was liaising with me throughout, even providing me with updates on the weather and suggesting itineraries for us. Leon and Varnier constantly checked in with us from time to time, all to ensure that we were having a blast. Felt really well taken care off, hats off to the team for going over and beyond.

Do highly recommend Kiwi Motorhomes. We will be back one day! :)

They were always available if we had a question whilst on the road, and provided delivery and pickup of the motorhome from our hotel at both ends. This particular motorhome was not the newest, but was recommended by them as we were travelling with a 8-month old daughter, and it came with everything we needed. Every aspect including booking, communications, extras required for little Peyton, and small plan changes were all handled easily by these 2 professional operators.

I believe the best recommendation someone can make about a business is whether they would return, and we would absolutely utilise Kiwi Motorhomes again in the future, and could not recommend them high enough.

Thanks Leon & Varnier - we hope to see you again when we return!

We (my wife and I) had a great experience with Kiwi Motorhomes right from the start. Informations, rental terms, contract,... all has been made quickly by email without hassle. We got free camping chairs and bikes offered which is usually extra with other companies.
Before our camping trip started we stayed the previous night in Auckland and Varnier and Leon offered us to bring the camper van to a parking lot close to our hotel which was very convenient for us and nice of them. The van itself was great, only 3 years old, fully equipped with everything and all appliances working as new. The only thing to do for us was hitting the next supermarket, buy food and drinks and off we went to our northern NZ adventure.
Nice was also the personal touch we got from Kiwi Motorhomes, it felt like borrowing the camper from friends and not from a company, they even followed up during our trip if all is well and if we need anything.
I would definitely contact them again once we visit New Zealand again.

Mary and I just completed 5 months touring New Zealand in a motorhome from Kiwi Motorhome. This was our first time in New Zealand, and our first experience living in a motorhome. We traveled all around both the North and South Islands logging 9,800 km. We selected a motorhome for the trip because it gave the flexibility to stay where we wanted for as long (or short) as we decided without having to commit to scheduled lodgings in advance. It also gave us the freedom to stay along sea shores, in forests, and near hiking and natural attractions along the way. We could determine how far we wanted to drive each day, and could prepare our own meals - which we generally prefer over restaurants. It was a wonderful holiday.

Renting the vehicle from Kiwi Motorhome gave us the convenience of one-stop shopping as well the peace of mind of a good support network should we need it. From the first time we contacted them, Leon and Varnier, the owners, were responsive, fair, and willing to work with us to craft an arrangement that fit our needs. We always felt that they were interested in helping us have a successful holiday, not just in renting us a vehicle. We also found that cost of renting from Kiwi Motorhomes was less than the quotes we received from other New Zealand motorhome rental companies.

When we arrived in Auckland, the vehicle itself was properly outfitted, clean, well maintained, and reliable. Leon and Varnier personally showed us how to operate the features of the motorhome and assured that we were comfortable in starting our travels. Along the way, they periodically checked in with us to be sure everything was going OK. And as you might imagine, over 5 months there were a few maintenance matters that arose. In each case Leon and Varnier were easy to reach, and were helpful in arranging a convenient way to address the issue. Their associates in Christchurch and Nelson were equally hospitable.

We recommend Kiwi Motorhomes for your motorhome needs in New Zealand.

The team at Kiwi Motorhomes, Leon, Varnier, and Roger made our "bucket list" experience one we will never forget. From start to finish, communication was excellent, I knew how everything worked in the campervan before we left Auckland on our trip south through the beautiful North Island into the spectacular South Island.
We booked the Nate campervan which was luxurious, easy to drive and even had a complimentary bottle of New Zealand wine. There was just the two of us so we had loads of room, bed was comfy, having a toilet and shower on board, heater, cooking facilities made our trip even more special.
Prices are very competitive and the added extras like the mountain bikes, outdoor table and chairs, bottle of wine etc, not to mention the fantastic family service made Kiwi Motorhomes the only place we would ever use when booking our New Zealand adventures.
Roger even offered to give us a lift to the airport when we dropped the camper off.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

A great experience from start to finish! It was quite exciting for us to be booking a campervan from the other side of the world but Leon and Varnier were always quick to answer all our questions and very clear in explaining the whole process. Super nice and friendly people, a true family owned business who do there absolute best to make you feel welcome and comfortable from pick-up to drop-off at the airport. After they explained the whole campervan we were on our way. We booked the Felix campervan but got an identical campervan named Winnie instead. It preformed great, a super nice and easy drive and spacious enough for us, 2 adults and a 3 year old. We had an amazing time cruising around the North Island. Maybe Kiwi isn't the cheapest option but truely everything was included in the price, so no surprises afterwards! If we can ever go back to explore more of New Zealand we will definitely be booking with Leon and Varnier again!

Having travelled often in the past and seeing customer experience in the hospitality industry, Kiwi Motorhomes excelled highly in their care of us over the trip. What can I say.....the experience my family have had during our 20 day visit to NZ has been, well, amazing!

Leon & Varnier are the most gracious hosts and provided us with a first class service from the get go. Their attention to detail and personal service ensured we had a worry free vacation. We travelled across NZ in ‘Ted’.

Ted, became our home from home during our visit; he is immaculate, we’ll maintained and wholly reliable. As a family we all felt we were able to kick back and relax - a worry free time.

I approached Leon 12 months prior to arrival in country with a speculative enquiry and was immediately impressed by his warmth, friendly and detailed support to ensure ease every step of the way. Collecting and returning us to our hotels pre and post hire is an example of the personal service provided by the team.

We have just completed our 10 days Motorhome experience in North Island with 2 children and we were so thankful we engaged Kiwi Motorhomes. They were nothing short of perfect, from the moment we enquired to the return of the vehicle. Leon was really responsive and provided a lot of information prior to our arrival and even went out of the way to get another child bike seat for us. When we arrived in Auckland, he picked us from the airport and gave us a comprehensive walk through of the motorhome. We got ourselves a Wini and it was perfect for our family. The vehicle had no issues at all during the whole trip and we even got compliments from several onlookers along the journey. This gave us the peace of mind to enjoy our holiday instead of worrying about the vehicle. At the end of the trip, Leon even drove us all the way to our next accommodation even though we wanted to take a taxi.

I traveled with my husband and twin 18 month old boys in Buzz. Roger from Kiwi Motorhomes picked us up at the airport and showed us how to use Buzz. Roger made sure we had two car seats and even bought a rail guard so the boys wouldn't fall out of the bottom bunk. Very thoughtful! We drove Buzz around the South Island with almost no problems (just one minor difficulty trying to get the propane unscrewed-it's a reverse thread). We were a little nervous about driving a manual in such a big van, but it was not bad at all. The manual was probably the best way to go, given all the passes we drove through. Overall I would say this company is better than the "popular" van companies by far-especially after talking to other people at various campgrounds. The people at Kiwi Motohomes are all wonderful and very quick to respond to emails and messages. We would absolutely rent from them again.

From our initial enquiry Leon and Varnier, they were extremely helpful and responsive to our questions (and we had many). We chose this camper to travel in as a couple from London. We wanted a motorhome that was spacious given the duration of our trip. We were met at the airport (Auckland) by Leon and Varnier who were both very friendly and helpful in showing us round the camper and navigating the features. Bella was very clean and well looked after. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and even when we had a little hiccup with a tyre, Leon was on hand to resolve the issue very quickly. We liked having the space in the van, we kept the lounge area made up as a bed for the whole time as there was enough space for us to use the area at the front for eating and chilling. Upon returning the van to Christchurch at the end of our trip, we were met by Roger who was also very friendly and helpful which made the transaction very smooth, just what you want when you are at the end of a trip. Kiwimotorhomes was by far one of the most most reasonably priced company for camper rentals - I spent a lot of time researching. Tricia is an older model, and so isn't one of the flashiest campers on the road, but she suited our purposes just fine. They communicated promptly and thoroughly to all of my questions (and there were many!) and were extremely friendly and supportive during pickup, while driving, and for dropoff. Kia Ora! We are a family of four from Canada, with two kids of 5 and 8. We spent 3 weeks camping across North Island with Nate, during the last Christmas holidays. We had a wonderful trip. When we travel, we always try to encourage smaller family owned companies, because they often offer the best services. We were not disappointed with Kiwimotrohomes! From the first inquiry to our final booking, everything went smoothly, and Leon and Varnier answered promptly our questions. They also gave us great advice and offered to help our friends finding another campervan because we took the last one available.

Pick up at the airport was on time and as soon as we arrived, they gave us a warm welcome and we already felt part of the family! Although we had booked Felix, we ended up travelling with Nate, at the same good price! The motorhome was clean, comfortable and fully equipped. It also handles the road very well and we found that the diesel engine was not too hard on gaz, the fuel consumption was really reasonable for that kid of vehicle size. Everything was well organized, just the way we like it (having a travel trailer ourselves...). Everything worked well, except for the fridge which had sometimes a hard time starting on the gaz mode (minor issue... it always ended up functioning after giving the fridge a break and turning it off for a couple hours!!!). But this didn't stop us from camping many nights in freedom campsites and unpowered sites in the Northland. By the way, even if we didn't have to call them, it is always reassuring to know that Leon and Varnier are just at the end of the line to help us if needed, especially when travelling with kids.

I strongly recommend kiwimotorhomes for your next trip in NZ, and we will sure hire from them when we go back!

Could not get a direct email address for the owners but had to go through Rankers which did take up a bit of time. Leon and Varnier gave us many tips to enhance our adventure. The booking and payment seemed to go through smoothly. The van was delivered to us in Auckland. It was very clean and fully equipped. The handover was thorough and very helpful. Within an hour, we were on the road and the van behaved well. Had a couple of issues during the two months but they were quickly resolved using the mobile phone provided. After 2 months, we dropped the van off in Christchurch and the return process was smooth and friendly. We were then taken to the airport for our flight home. I believe we got a better service overall than we would have done from the larger well known Companies and at a better price. The van was not new and modern but it was very clean and functional, with character I would definitely use Kiwi Motorhomes again and would recommend them to my friends. The travel was certainly interesting with the twists and turns of the various roadways. It is an incredible country. Our first vehicle was a Fiat 6 speed that kept me busy with shifting because of the curves and hills. The second vehicle was an automatic which made the drive easier. It also was super equipped with microwave, television/satellite dish, and solar collector power. We were spoiled with this glamor camping in the "top ten" campgrounds. There is nothing they could have done differently to make our experience any better. We rented Tricia for about 10 days and were thrilled with our experience. The motor home actually looked better in person than the pictures, which is unusual. We are a family of three and our daughter is not quite 2. I had several special requests and they accommodated every one with no charge. (Even going so far as to purchase new two of the items I requested). The whole experience from the emails before the trip, the pick-up, the hand-off, the communication during our trip, the actual motorhome....everything was top notch. The quality of the motor home company you rent from really affects your experience, and we had the trip of a lifetime thanks to this company. I also appreciate the lack of advertising on the motor home. Some vehicles just scream tourist, but these Motorhomes make you feel like you blend in a little more:) I am usually not one to leave reviews (I am just that lazy:) but I was so impressed with this company!! My husband and I recently enjoyed 2 weeks touring around the North and South Islands in Little Pete. Despite being older than many of the other vans we saw on our travels it never missed a beat and was perfectly comfortable to travel and live in. Varnier and Leon went out of their way to ensure our campervan holiday ran smoothly. The van was stocked with many extra supplies not normaly provided and were greatly appreciated, especially the complimentary bottle of NZ wine and the wine glasses. The addition of bikes at no extra cost was a real bonus for us and we enjoyed making use of them at many of our stops. We travelled with another couple who had hired a van from a larger well known company, which supplied only the bare minimum, and they also found themselves having to utilize our supplies as well. We found Kiwi motorhomes a pleasure to deal with and apart from some initial confusion at pick-up in Christchurch the service was exceptional and there were no hidden costs. We would not hesitate to use this company again in the future.

Friendly service, though they were late dropping the van off. GPS was hard to use with no instructions.
The van had everything we expected and overall we really enjoyed our holiday. We would use them again.

Hi Carol,
Thank you for your recent review, as you are aware accurate reviews are very important to us and our hirers, which is why we wanted to follow up on your comments with our Christchurch manager Remko who did the handover with you. Remko advised us that he was on time for the pickup, and that he offered to explain the instructions for the GPS to your partner who said he didnt need it, mentioning 'I know how to use these GPS, as they are all the same', you may have missed this conversation as Remko mentioned that you were on the phone at the time.
Remko has been working with us for a long time, the many things that we love about Remko are his punctuality, honest friendly manner and professionalism.
We do thank you for chosing Kiwi Motorhomes and would love to host you all again in the future.

We rented Maggie for 2 weeks and it was great! The booking process and the delivery of the motorhome was very simple and clear. Everything worked well on Maggie and we recieved Leo and Varnier's support throught the trip. Our main concern was the heating, since we went during winter time and it worked perfectly! Maggie is a "self contained vehicle", so allowed us to always stay on free camp grounds, saving money and experience more of the NZ nature. Totally recommend it!

Varnier and Leon were so kind. We really appreciated working with a family run business for our family's holiday. They provided us with all kinds of extras (bikes, table, chairs, mobile, GPS, toys, DVDs, and more) and we're super responsive to questions we had. It just felt good renting from and being supported by good people. I almost felt bad for the hoards of other people who rented from larger organizations with terribly unfair insurance/bond policies. Their policies were straight forward and clear with no hidden fees. I'm glad we did our homework and choose a fair company worth supporting.

My wife and I tentatively booked our first motorhome experience for 10 days for the beautiful North Island. We were delighted and impressed with the friendliness and assistance from Varnier and Leon from KiwiMotorhomes in organising everything in great detail such that we had no worries whatsoever and could enjoy the trip. The motorhome was brilliant with ample beds, conveniences including shower/toilet, oven, cooking top, fridge. There was plenty of warmth either from gas and/or electrical heaters which we really appreciated in the brisk winter weather. Always available if we needed help, Varnier and Leon were extremely helpful.

Dear Leon and Remko,

The both of you did a great job with excellent deal from the beginning. Leon, especially provide me with a warmth customer service by being responsive and helpful in answering all the questions before we left home for NZ. I have gone through so many companies surveying the right and affordable yet comfortable before choosing this Company. Of course there will be a lot of question mark as this is not a Company that being chosen by most of the travelers in NZ but we decided to give a try and guess what it was MARVELOUS. I bet we had the best deal with Kiwi Motorhomes.

We had a great 11 days road trip experience and our holiday around South Island was fantastic with Kiwi Motorhomes. Our well equipped camper (Felix) was delivered to us by Remko, a friendly and funny guy in Christchurch with some hiccups initially (the earlier booking was for Muscles) but ended up quite smoothly then!! We love that Remko able to deliver the camper to us at a flexible location and best part was the handover process was simple to our convenience. Our van, Felix is a 6-berth auto-gear. The van itself is quite new and everything was in good order and no issues at all (we drove up to Remarkable Ski Resort in Queenstown and Mount John Observatory in Lake Tekapo with full of confident). She is pretty, unlike other brand she does not have a big logo on her and surprising the van able to accommodate 6 adults with quite comfortable to sleep in! There was some essential items provided to us for free like towel, linen, blanket, salt, pepper, cooking oil, etc and of course a bottle of NZ red wine that Remko suggested us to use it during emergency and indeed we use it during raining and low temperature night in South Island.

We hope to be lucky enough to return to NZ in future at which we will definitely book Kiwi Motorhomes again. We would highly recommend Kiwi Motorhomes to anyone who is looking for a unique NZ travel experience.

From start to end we had a fabulous experience with Kiwi Motorhomes. ’Jordy’ is an older 6 berth manual vehicle but he is clean and tidy, well maintained and comes with lots of free extras - Sat TV, DVD player, heater, solar panels, tables, chairs, extra linen, bikes, GPS - all included in the hire. Jordy didn’t miss a beat during our 3280km journey around the South Island. No road was too much for Jordy, and no tight caravan park spot too difficult. Other hires have nothing in the van for you on pickup - Jordy had all the basic essentials to start you off - tea, coffee, loo paper - and even a nice bottle of red. Remko, Leon, Varnier and team are a pleasure to work with - communication, pickup and delivery were a breeze and they bent over backward to suit our circumstances and meet our needs.

This was our second Motorhome trip to NZ and there was no comparison between the two hires - Kiwi Motorhomes wins hands down. We will not choose another company for future hires (believe it or not there is still more of NZ we want to see) and we will highly recommend Kiwi Motorhomes to other Aussie friends planning a Motorhome trip to NZ.

Dear Leon and Varnier,

As a dad with an awesome wife and three beautiful daughters I was anxious that this 10 day South Island trip was magical. I suspected that you might be the company to help make this happen - that your wife has the same name as mine wasn't lost on us either:-).

We could have gone with a number of companies - and when you travel around the country we noticed that plenty of people did choose other companies. Our sense though was that people default to big names, and fancy advertising but we wanted to go with a company that "gets it", that takes joy in the lives of others and dare I say it seems excited by others experiences.

The logistics of pick up and drop off, costs, style of campervan were all great which helps but my family doesn't care about those things. What mattered to us was knowing that as we ventured out we felt able to relax because you both had provided us with a level of comfort and security about our hire and impending journey.

Thank you both because we did indeed have that magical time together as a family - your support of us was very normal to you but would be over and above what others would provide.

I've given you guys a 9 though because if I give a 10 what do you have to aim for - how boring would that be. :-)

We've already recommended you both to our friends.

Thanks.

What a fantastic service Leon & Varnier provide! We are a family of 2 adults with 3 boys under 10yrs who travelled the North Island for 19 days.

Our experience with this company was absolutely positive from the minute I made the initial enquiry. Very responsive and transparent, communication was great.

On arrival in NZ they delivered the van to us at the motel to start our journey. This made things a lot easier for us as you can imagine a family of 5 with bags, stroller, surfboards and toys the least amount of moving our baggage the better!
They went through the van both inside and out with me and my husband. Everything was provided to get us by sheets, pillows, towels and cutlery.
‘Maggie’ the RV served us really well. No problems at all, fuel consumption was good.
We didn’t have the best weather on our stay so that did make things a bit trickier but we survived!
On our last day we arranged to meet Leon to hand back the van and he dropped us to our motel.
All ran very smoothly - we heard so many horror stories of RV hire so this was always at the back of our mind, but these guys really do make you part of the family when dealing with them, would definitely recommend to anyone considering an RV.

We had a great first road trip experience around South Island with Kiwi Motorhomes! We are two couples travelling from Hong Kong to NZ, none of us had any "on the road" experience and Leon was very responsive, helpful and attentive to answering all our questions from the beginning and throughout our trip. We had so much fun travelling that we wanted to extend our rental and Leon was able to accommodate my last minute request swiftly.

On special request, we arranged for pick-up/drop off at Christchurch. Love that Remko was flexible with pick-up/drop off location, so we were able to handover the van at locations of our choosing. Handover process was smooth and informative.

Our van Little Pete is a 5 berth auto-gear. The van itself is quite aged, but everything was in good order during our trip, no issues at all. Little Pete was well equipped with all that we needed: beddings, thick towels, cleaning supplies, GPS, electric heater, cutlery, camping table and charges - all FREE OF CHARGE. We were even given extra duvets and (new) thick blankets for our trips since the autumn temperature suddenly plunged (to below zero) before our arrival, again shows that the kiwi team is super personal and attentive.
Little Pete is a handsome fella, we love that unlike the other big brands, our van didn't have a big logo on him. In fact, Little Pete is featured in many of our stunning photos taken around this beautiful country. Pleasantly surprised that the van is still spacious with 4 adults, and the bed above the drivers seat was quite comfortable to sleep in!

Overall, great experience!
Would recommend Kiwi Motorhomes to everyone. Many friends at home are already asking us about the road trip / camper van experience and we would definitely recommend Leon and Varnier's friendly and kind services. I can't wait to planning my next trip with them myself.

Our holiday on the South Island was fantastic and largely due to Kiwi Motorhomes. The excellent customer service started well before we left home with prompt responses to our myriad of questions. A wonderful welcome from Leon at the airport in Queenstown (in torrential rain) and after a run through and handover we were on our way! "Muscles" was a perfect size of our family of four with two teenage boys, with comfortable beds, good cooking facilities and lots of little extras like tea/coffee/sugar etc. It didn't miss a beat and handled well on the road. We certainly appreciated the free extras that are provided such as bikes, DVDs, camping chairs, games, GPS, road atlas and maps. Also the fact that all the linen and towels are provided within the overall price is excellent, a key difference with some other companies. The 24/7 support is probably what sets this company apart from others. We did need to contact Leon twice and he was always happy to answer our queries immediately, even embarrassing things like the fact that in New Zealand to turn on the power switch at the camping grounds the switch should be UP not down!!

We were sorry to hand Muscles back to Leon in Christchurch as we would have loved to have stayed longer in many of the places we visited. The handover was quick and efficient and then Leon dropped us at the airport ready for our flight home. I would highly recommend Kiwi Motorhomes. 10 out of 10!

Service for van pickup and drop off was outstanding. We travelled in Maggie for 8 nights with our two children (11 & 13) and each of us slept and travelled comfortably. i knew from the first e-mail correspondence with Leon that this was the company I would be renting our motor home from. I asked questions and got almost immediate answers. Questions which were probably laughable but we had never done this type of travel before and Leon and Varnia answered everything without fuss and with out demeaning us. The statement 'you wont find a cheaper, friendlier motorhome hire company. Kiwi Motorhomes gives you true peace of mind that when you hire a motorhome from us you will get a 24/7 service, we will be with you every step of the way. As if you are part of the family." Oh! how true this came to be. Leon even provided us with what he determined a rough itinerary after asking a bit about us. You would swear by the itinerary he had know us for years. It was absolutely wonderful. As said this was our first motorhome trip and one I started with some trepidation but after the care we had from Varnia and Leon we will be doing this again. Yes we did find a couple of flaws, but rather than be defensive both Varnia and Leon were so happy to have these pointed out to look at incorporating into Maggie. We fell in love with her, New Zealand and this was made to happen with the friendliness and professionalism from Varnia and Leon. I know it is so hard to incorporate both but they have the knack of doing it even by the provisions to send us on our way rather than have to purchase sugar, tea, coffee etc on our first night. Kiwi Motorhomes,
Their customer service as great. Very friendly and enthusiastic to ensure we had good time. A lot of stuff was included at no extra charge (bikes helmets etc) which was good. The vehicle was used but new to them and was showing inevitable signs of age. They did provide good on the road support for one significant issue. The water heater did not function although it was demonstrated working on handover!? Since the weather was hottest on record this was not an issue for us and we chose not to divert from our course to get it fixed. By default it was we who uncovered a fair list of minor age related issues that required attention. I am sure Kiwi will sort them for the next inline customers. Had their vehicle audit before handover been more effective on that front I think I would have given them a 9 or 10.
One piece of advice that was given to us was to call in support if we had a flat tire rather thank attempt to fix ourselves. This sounded good at they time but it felt unrealistic when bumping along unsealed roads on the South Island with no traffic, no cellphone coverage and the next service station 90kms away. Had we had a flat we would undoubtedly have been obliged to do a tier change ourselves. A good compromise would to have been to include one of these foam injector bottles to get us on the move

Reviewed over 2 years ago

Kiwi Motorhomes responds:

Thanks for your comments Douglas, at Kiwi Motorhomes we do pride ourselves on going the extra mile to help all of our guests have the best ever NZ motorhome adventure, so we welcome your comments and we have already addressed the minor age related issues, which were the 2 cupboard latches.
I must note that at the handover stage the hot water heater was working well and you did confirm this, so when you you contacted us to let us know it had stopped working we wanted to organise a repairer to fix it straight away but you elected not to as you said it was not an issue at all.
We have 24/7 roadside assist on all of our motorhomes specifically for things like flat tyres, but we do agree that in some parts of the South Island there is limited cell phone coverage, so we will be providing an emergency air compressor and instant tyre foam injector bottle for such emergencies, so we thank you for the comment.

My family had the most incredible adventure in NZ during November 2017 when we hired our awesome Campervan through Kiwi motorhomes. From the first contact we had with them we knew we were in safe hands as every query and question we had was answered with great detail and very promptly. We hired the 5 berth camper which was perfect for myself, my husband and our son who was 18 months at the time. We drove all throughout the south and north island during our trip and absolutely loved it, best holiday ever! We grew quite attached to our little camper as it really felt like home and we knew that if we encountered any problems or issues that Kiwi motorhomes would be able to help us. We booked through them because of the awesome reviews that we had read and the personalised service that they gave, not to mention the very competitive rates and great free extras such as bikes, child bike seat and high chair etc. Which just made the trip that much easier with our little one.
Kiwi motorhomes exceeded our expectations and if we return to NZ we will definitely be booking with them again. I had a great experience with Leon and Varnier from Kiwi Motorhomes. From the moment we met, they treated me like family and went out of their way to ensure that I had everything I needed and more. The great feature of their business is the absolute up-front, no hidden extras, in their pricing. I found many other companies frustrating in the fact that the price you saw initially never ended up being the one you were ultimately quoted - some of the differences were quite staggering. With Kiwi Motorhomes the pricing was all inclusive, incredibly budget-friendly and absolutely not a single hidden extra payment. The van was clean, extremely comfortable and reliable, with so many extras thrown in for no cost - bikes, games, DVDs, books, boogie boards etc. But what makes this company great is Leon and Varnier! Choosing the best company to travel with was hard at first, but after calling with Leon & Varnier, -probably 2 of the most loving people you'll ever meet-, we knew we hit the jackpot! Our motorhome "Henry" was in perfect shape and the rental price was very competitive. We felt like we were treated as family. Varnier was so kind to pick us up in Auckland city where we got a thorough explanation from Leon of all the features their motorhome has (which was extensive :)) and we felt secure we could call them at anytime for any advice or help if necessary. This was our second hire with Kiwi Motorhomes – after spending our wedding trip in VW a year ago, this time we celebrated our anniversary trip in Mercedes while driving around the South Island for 3 weeks. Once again we received both great vehicle at very competitive price and outstanding customer service from Nick, and we couldn’t recommend more his rental company.
As in previous year, we were just amazed how obliging and thoughtful Nick personally is. He was not only always ready to provide helpful information with no delay, but also he offered us a very kind anniversary gift. What is more, since on our arrival day there was a national holidays in NZ, which impacted the opening hours of local shops, Nick even provided us with some food supplies for our convenience(!) And when we had some time at the end of our trip to chat with him, it turned out that he has great stories about himself to share. Once again, thank you Nick for both facilitation and contribution to our great holidays in NZ!
As we drove both of Nick’s motorhomes, we may confirm that the driving experience in VW and Mercedes is great and hassle free. They are very reliable to drive as well as functional and comfortable to live in, with very good fuel efficiency. They also have great solar batteries that allowed us to freedom camp the entire trip at really scenic places – we only needed to fill up fridge and water tank regularly. With the RV you also get free of charge great extras like e.g. mobile phone, GPS, camping table and chairs, mountain bikes – especially with the latter providing us with some of the highlight experiences of our trip.
Already after the first trip we knew that Kiwi Motorhomes has much more to offer than the great vehicles. It is also the genuine care of Nick, who really wants your holidays to be unforgettable, that is truly priceless. With Kiwi Motorhomes you actually receive a vehicle and a friend, and the confidence that neither of them will let you down. Totally recommended!

Based on various travelers stories of renting RVs in New Zealand and dealing with issues ranging from driving on the "wrong" side of the road with jet lag to breakdowns ruining vacations we were trepidatious to say the least. We found Kiwi Motorhomes at the last moment, after countless interactions with other companies that were out of stock or too expensive or charged for every extra. I wish we could have discovered Kiwi from the beginning and saved ourselves all the hassle of dealing with the others.

Renting from Leon and Varnier was like borrowing a vehicle from old friends. They picked us up from the airport, gave us a thorough rundown of how everything worked and were kind enough to include all the "extras". They were there every step of the way if we had any questions or concerns about how things worked with "Maggie".

Maggie performed flawlessly and she got us everywhere we needed to go. Planning a return to to NZ to see the South Island next time and will definitely be hitting them up again.

Firstly Nick is very friendly, and when i went to pick up the motorhome he was very knowledgeable and spent his time showing me everything I needed to know with using the motorhome. A couple of days before we picked it up I rang Nick to ask if he could add a couple of items to make our trip better e.g: Picnic table and chairs and bikes with 2 child carrier seats including helmets for all. This was no problem, and of course free as Nick dose not charge for these extra items. They are located in the central North Island of NZ, which was great for us and Nick dose allow you to leave your vehicle if you require. Overall a great experience will definitely do it again, highly recommend Kiwi Motor Homes

Nick was great showing us how everything in the camper worked. He told us about some special places to visit which turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip. It was an older van but that was why it was cheaper. Van struggled uphills but other than that it served us well. I would definitely recommend them

Let's face it-a month's holiday in a campervan in NZ already had the bones of being a great holiday! But the decision to use KIWI MOTORHOMES took it to the next level. Nick is an incredible person who genuinely cares and takes great responsibility that your holiday is the very best it can be. He provides amazing customer service from your very first interaction; this extends far beyond you 'signing on the bottom line'. We spent a month in 'Lucy' (yes we named our van), and drove thousands of km's. LUCY became as much a part of our lifelong memories of this once in a lifetime trip as the incredible scenery of this amazing country. As has Nick!.When we spent a couple of unplanned days in Palmerston North, Nick played personal tour guide and we really enjoyed our time together. This goes far and beyond what you would ever get from a bigger impersonal company. The quality of bedding is what you would expect from a swish hotel, the cookware was also impressive.Lucy is an older van but this added to her charm and she was reliable, easy to drive and 'honest' in fuel economy. I was surprised how cosy and warm she kept us every night. We were more than comfortable. Everone wants 'good value' from their holiday dollars , and without a doubt you get incredible value for your buck with KIWI MOTORHOMES. But the value of geuine and authentic care, knowing that the person you are doing business with truly WANTS your holiday experience to be unforgettable; and is dedicated to doing all in his power to make that happen? That's TRUE value! That's PRICELESS! and THAT'S what you get with Nick and Kiwi Motorhomes. So ..thinking of a holiday in NZ? Good decision! Contemplating doing it in a campervan? Great Decision!!! And deciding to use Kiwi Motorhomes?? THE BEST DECISION EVER!! When you get there, please give Nick a big hug from me and take care of our 'Lucy'..we'll be back again one day and will definately go with Kiwi Motorhomes again. See you again then Nick! What an awesome motorhome and an awesome guy Nick is. We hired Nick's motorhome for 2 weeks and travelled around the south island through tough uphill roads, heavy rain and windy dark nights without a problem. Riding around a clean, comfortable, cosy and spacious motorhome was a great experience especially when freedom camping. Having Nick's GPS and bikes was also a plus! Other than the motorhome being absolutely great for what it was worth Nick's service was beyond the call of duty.

Examples are:
1.) 50 e-mails were answered intensively based on questions we had on New Zealand and the motorhome.
2.) Nick found us a motorhome for our 1st week in the north island when other companies couldn't.
3.) We looked for a place to stay in Palmerston North and Nick offered his driveway for us to camp in and to also use his shower and toilet in his home.
4.) After picking up his motorhome from a previous client in Auckland, Nick drove it all the way to Palmerston North for us on the same day.
5.) Nick then swapped motorhomes and drove the one we were using earlier all the way to Auckland.
6.) We accidentally drove off and ripped the power cord from the motorhome and left it behind in Wellington. Nick was able to pick it up, deliver it to a electrician in Wanaka (where we were staying) and sorted out a day for the electrician to wire it back into the motorhome.
7.) When we went to Queenstown we had the motorhome picked up and got on the plane home.

I strongly recommend to book with Kiwimotorhomes, you will be travelling in safe hands with knowledgeable New Zealanders who know the best roads and places to be in. Will definitely come back to this beautiful country again and explore the rest of it with Nick's motorhome!

We (a couple) rented the Mercedes Sprinter for 6 weeks in Dec16/Jan17. From the very first E-mail exchanged with Nick, we knew we had hit gold. He was there for any questions and showed great flexibility. He met us off the Waiheke Ferry and at the end of our trip in Christchurch at our B&B. He also made various recommendations and gave us tips after looking at our semi-planned itinerary. For peak season we certainly had a great rate, especially considering all the free extras: picnic table & chairs, binoculars, bikes, dvd, etc - and most importantly for couple stress-free driving a Sat Nav!!! We also loved - and needed - our hot water bottles! The motorhome is an older van, but everything worked well and we had no complaints. The kitchen was well equipped and we had so much fun cooking on the gas stove/oven. We were amazed how well the shower worked and that we had hot water ....(when we remembered to switch the gas on!). The bikes were great for exploring an area, expecially once we had nabbed our freedom-spot for the night. Again we had to contact Nick a couple times during the rental and he always responded quickly and sorted our minor hitches with no complaint. We can totally recommend booking through Nick and are sure that when we return to NZ, we will book with him again! Thanks again Nick for all your efforts!

We rented the campervan from Kiwi Motorhomes from Jan 7th to Jan 24th 2017 and travelled to the far North of New Zealand. The owner Nick is extremely kind and very helpful. He gave us excellent instructions relating to the hiring of the camper: insurance, filling up, security and maintenance. He didn't mind and was very obliging when I forgot most of this information and I had to call him again to repeat these instructions. The motor home was very clean on pick up and included so many added extras: mountain bikes, mobile phone, sat nav, DVDs, books and boogie boards etc, at no extra cost. The kitchen area, showers and toilets were all in good clean working order. The mountain bikes were particularly useful, as we could establish a base and explore the towns. If you want to have a great holiday in New Zealand, we cannot recommend Kiwi Motorhomes and their wonderful owner Nick highly enough. We had the most amazing holiday, thank you!

A great, friendly and easy to deal with company which is also amazingly well priced!

Nicholas provided a fantastic service right from the start and was the only company to address us as individuals as oppose to a business lead. He was friendly and he totally gets the mind of people coming to visit NZ. This was a real bonus as many companies will only properly chase you as a customer once you give a solid commitment to hire. Nicholas was happy to meet us at Auckland airport for collection and also meet us at Christchurch for drop-off. This is a service that not many offer. He was also happy to give us guidance on our route (if you want a fast-paced south / north island itinerary then ask him for ours!) and other information too.

We hired the motorhome for a little over 2 weeks and did several thousand hassle free kilometres in it. Whilst the motorhome wasn’t brand new, it was 100% reliable. It was also very well maintained, clean, tidy and we found no fault with it at all. All the kitchen items worked well. The VW drove well, easy to manoeuvre, was good on fuel for a vehicle of its size and was also very comfortable. Despite the bathroom being a bit small, it was very functional. No complaints at all!

Nicholas’ pricing is exceptionally competitive especially considering the size of vehicles he has on offer. The price that Nicholas gave us also included a large number of items that other companies charge as extras including bikes, DVD TV, Sat Nav and a number of other options. Be aware of this as prices can soon ramp up. Taking this into account, choosing Kiwi Motorhomes became a no brainer!

Is Kiwi Motorhomes recommended? Yes, totally, without hesitation. Drop Nicholas an email and find out for yourselves 

We rented the VW motorhome from Nicholas last December for almost 4 weeks. From the 1st contact Nicholas was very kind. It was the 1st time we rented a motorhome. So everything was new to us. He helped us with everything, answered all the question we had, patiently. We were very pleased with the motorhome. There is no rental logo on the vehicle so we didn't stand out as tourists. It is an older vehicle but very well maintained, clean and we loved it!! Nicholas included lots of extra's without extra costs. We loved the mountainbikes. We did some amazing mountain bike tracks. The kids loved the autopeds and the boogie boards. Due to the solar panels we were able to wild camp without any problems. He delivered the motorhome in Christchurch were we stayed at my sisters place. He had to fly to England all of a sudden for a family matter so he wasn't able to pick up the motorhome at the end of our trip in Auckland. He made sure we were able to leave the motorhome at the carpark were a friend picked it up. Nicholas........ I already said "thank you" for everything you did for us. Over here I will say it again. Due to your advise and personal contact our trip was amazing. I hope we are able to visit NZ again in the future. In that case we will definitly contact you again!

We came across Kiwi Motorhomes on the Rankers and were impressed with the positive feedback from previous customers – now we can tell from our experience how very well deserved are the positive comments about Nick and his rental company:

1. Personal service
From the very first email contact with Nick, he turned out to be a very obliging person, always ready to provide helpful information with no delay. Moreover, when he learnt that we would be in NZ on our wedding trip, he offered us a very kind wedding gift – when we met him in Auckland, it turned out that there were also other gifts he prepared for us. We were very touched by those generous and kind gestures. He was always available on the phone during our trip whenever we needed advice. He was even kind enough to go to the Spark shop to help us out with the data plan on the mobile phone.

2. Competitive price
The Kiwi Motorhome offers the most competitive rental package. The reason for that, as other reviewers pointed it out, is not only the very reasonable rental fee (including all from full insurance, unlimited Kms, 2 drivers’ option, relocation costs, to even RUC), but also the great and free extras mentioned in other reviews.

3. Good vehicle
We had booked the 5 berth Mercedes motorhome with automatic gears but just before our arrival to NZ we were informed by Nick that it was partly damaged in an accident suffered by other couple. Therefore we agreed to give a try to a 6 berth VW motorhome with manual gearbox - it took me very fast to get used to it and we stayed with it during the entire trip. It was an older vehicle compared to other companies but clean, very well maintained and with excellent equipment, so it served our purposes perfectly. My wife had some reservations about the shower before the trip, but the bathroom in the motorhome exceeded her expectations, with strong pump and really hot water.

We would certainly recommend Kiwi Motorhomes to anyone looking for a reliable and competitive company

Me and 2 other friends hired a camper through Nick at Kiwi Motorhomes. We had a great trip around South Island for a 2 and a bit weeks. The van ran really well and was really comfortable.
At no extra cost we got 3 bikes, a rack which took 2 bikes on the back, boogie boards and a GPS. The kitchen had all the equipment we needed - chopping boards, knives, plates and bowls etc. He also left a mobile phone with credit on it so we could get in touch at the end of our trip.
Nick met us at the airport in Christchurch where we landed to begin our journey. He ran though everything we needed to know about emptying the loo, filling up with water, turning the gas on and off etc etc. We felt there was nothing left for us to work out how to work.
At the end of our trip Nick met us at the motel where we stayed in Christchurch to pick the van up.
Nick was also very thorough about being in touch though email before we flew to N.Z. so we knew exactly what we were doing and what to expect before we got there. He even rang me when he was visiting his mum in the UK so we could chat face to face.
Thanks Nick.

When on a big trip out in the wilds for much of the time you want to know that you can rely 100% on the service of the van supplier. In the event we didn't have a single problem, but as 2 non-mechanically minded women with children on board we so appreciated Nick keeping in touch with us and helping us put together a sensible itinerary. And all the extras which came free of charge! Such thoughtful items - none of which were available from the big outfits. We were blown away. Nicholas stayed in constant contact with us from the moment of our booking, answering countless questions from us and giving advice. He provided so much support in the planning process, even renting us books on photography for the trip as he knew that's what we were interested in.
The motorhome, although not the newest, was perfect and we loved every minute of it - loads of room, and clean and well maintained. Nicholas even provides bikes, a phone, GPS, and again stays in contact if you want him to to make sure everything is going OK.
Having never done this sort of trip before we weren't sure what to expect but now we have already booked to go back to New Zealand again using Kiwi Motorhomes and now think of Nicholas as a friend, he made everything so simple and stress free... just how it's supposed to be! We had booked the 5 berth Mercedes motorhome but on the day we were given a 6 berth VW motorhome. Plenty room for two people but a very large vehicle to drive. Nick's service is outstanding and all the extras are fantastic, i.e. mobile phone, gps, bikes, books, dvds etc. The motorhomes are a little older than the big names but still do everything they need to do without the stress and the stipulations the big companies put on you. In a saturated market, we looked for an outfit that offered something different. Kiwi Motorhomes did just that with its small operation ensuring a personal service that means you are dealing with the owner directly and not an employee. The initial quote was reasonably priced but the whole package became inexpensive against the competition when considering the free extras included - GPS, phone, bikes etc., all of which proved to be a factor in the overall success of the trip.

The personal service was seen at the outset when, via email, Nick gave us great advice on our intended itinerary - as first-time Brits we really valued his independent advice on many matters ranging from campsites, ferry crossings and suggested locations. When we met him at Auckland Airport, we were particularly grateful for his patience while our son's delayed flight meant him hanging around for 3 hours. I'm not sure whether this would have been the case with the bigger companies!

The motorhome itself was exactly as advertised and more. The solar battery and extra power battery ensured we could wild camp without worries of power depletion and we marvelled at the clever interior design features. The washroom exceeded our expectations; we thought it would be a mere drip for a shower, but the pump was stronger than some of the showers we came across in campsites. As a keen cook, I appreciated the 4-ring gas cooker and Nick had provided some decent cookware not the usual cheap thin metal pans. We didn't use the satellite TV but I guess families would value it together with the many DVD's provided.

Driving the VW van was a cinch and its torquey, low-geared engine was well-suited to the driving conditions we encountered, especially some of the dramatic passes on South Island. It was a strong, sturdy diesel unit that proved reliable, and economical when considering the weight of the van.

Overall, our initial reasons for choosing Kiwi Motorhomes were completely vindicated. Thank you Nick!

We (family of 5 with 6, 8 and 10 year old boys) rented a 5-berth Mercedes van for 19 days in December on the South Island. This was in part because of what we had read in the Ranker reviews.

Despite all the positive reviews naming Nick for his service - we were still absolutely astonished about how focused he is on making sure it is a great experience. The professionalism of a big company and the service of a small one. Nick looks to make sure it fits with your plans rather than his.

From a simple (and interactive) booking process, a plan based around what suited us (meet with flights regardless of timing) to a fully stocked van with great inclusions (brand new Nerf guns for the boys and follow up text to tell us where spare bullets were) it was so impressive. Nick also did us a favour on the way to the airport pick up which I won't mention (so others don't ask him!) - but "above and beyond" before we had even met.

So you can imagine how bad we felt when we damaged the van (on several occasions). With the personal service we let him know and it really did have the potential to impact his own timing (and subsequent bookings). Every discussion ended with concern that it was spoiling our holiday (it wasn't and checking everyone was alright).

The van is a little older (not a problem at all and I like an earlier comment about fitting in better with the lack of branding), but great value with the extras and a focus on service. Any question about the booking is answered personally and very openly so you know exactly what to expect. Nick suggested a van that seemed to suit us better than his schedule.

NZ is a small, personable country and it makes sense to go with a local friendly business like Kiwi Motorhomes rather than one of the big brands.

Would highly recommend and do again .... my concern with would be that as customers we might not get a 10 from Kiwi Motorhomes for our driving!

From the first email we sent to enquire about the motorhome right to the point of handing back the keys after a great holiday, it has been one wonderful experience.
Nick goes above and beyond any expectations, offering a very personal service. It was our first time renting a motorhome so we had many questions, to which we always received an almost instant reply.

We rented the Mercedes motorhome for 1 month and during this time we had no issues whatsoever. Very reliable, easy to drive and with the added bonus of no visible branding, you get treated by others as a local!
Sure, the motorhome is not brand new, but that's not what we wanted anyway (and having said that, it was clean, comfortable and all in perfect working condition, what more do you want!?).
What we were looking for was a reliable, affordable, motorhome with good service and that's exacly what we did get. No, we actually got more than that...!

The motorhome had everything we could have ever needed during our stay. The bikes, gps and mobile phone came at no extra cost. Unbelievable!
We picked it up in Auckland, where Nick met up with us exactly at the time and place that we had agreed. The drop off at Christchurch was also completely hassle free, catered perfectly to our flight schedule.

Between booking our holiday a year up front and the actual departure, we decided to get married in New Zealand. When Nick heard of this, we really surprised us yet again with some of his personal touches :-)
We said we'd come back to NZ to celebrate one of our anniversaries. Well, we wouldn't even think twice about where to rent our motorhome from because we don't think we'd ever find better than this!

We would rate 20 out of 10 if we could! :-)

We used the Mercedes Benz motorhome to stay in for a wedding as there was no spare rooms available in our relatives houses. It was good to have our own space to retreat to when things got busy - so it worked out really well. It also meant we were nice and close to our relatives on their front lawn - rather than having to travel to and from a motel.

We also took the opportunity to take our daughter to Wellington for an overnight adventure after the wedding and we had a great time! It was the first time we had the opportunity to use a motorhome bathroom and it was amazing - we expected it to be smelly after a day or so - but no - nothing to worry about there! I loved the fact that we were absolutely independent and could be in the middle of no-where and be very comfortable thank you very much - and most importantly leave no footprint - apart from the diesel fuel to get there of course!! :)

The motorhome itself was spotlessly clean! Absolutely everything we needed for our trip away was included - a mini home away from home really!

Nothing was too much trouble for Nicholas. He was even willing to get up at 5.00am in the morning to meet us at the bus stop to drop off the motorhome - which is service way beyond the expected indeed. Nicholas was thorough, organised and really considered our needs - offering advice and bending over backwards to help us. This made planning our four day holiday with the motorhome a breeze which I really appreciated.

I would thoroughly recommend using the Kiwi Motorhome company for your holiday. We certainly look forward to going on another motorhome adventure using this company in the future!

We'd just like to thank Nicholas on making our holiday in NZ such a wonderful experience. We decided to take our holiday in NZ and with 4 small children. We required 4 car seats and wanted flexibility in our route, we discovered Kiwi motor homes appeared to offer by far the best value for money. From the outset Nicholas provided an exceptional and professional service. He always promptly responded to our queries prior to the trip and gave us advice on our route, navigation and what to expect. he went beyond and above what we would have expected in terms of offering a huge list of additional extras at no extra cost (eg: car seats, scooters, boogie boards, board games, books, maps, binoculars, picnic tables and chairs and kids CDs and DVDs).
He brought the van up to Auckland and met us at the airport. The van was clean and ready to go. He went through all the operating instructions in detail.
During the trip we needed to contact him out of hours and he responded immediately.
Particularly travelling with a larger family where nothing ever goes to plan, it's the little things that you remember and we are very grateful to Nicholas for making the logistics so smooth.
The children made great use of all the extras which kept them busy, and the CD books made drive time unexpectedly peaceful (mostly!).Even after our trip our boys discovered they had left some posters in the van, and Nicholas went to great lengths to locate and then forward them onto us.
Thank you, and we will certainly be in contact to book a van for our next trip! You are a great ambassador for NZ tourism. Thank you!

We had truly wonderful 3 1/2 month trip to New Zealand. Nick met us in Christchurch just before Christmas and then again in Auckland at the end of our trip in March. With no additional charges for this personalised service. As mentioned in other reviews, all the extras changed by the larger companies are all included in the price helping to make this trip more affordable. Nick was extremely helpful with additional information throughout our trip about places to visit and to stay. When we had a breakdown , Nick sorted it out trying to make it as easy for us as possible and has on our return to the UK, refunded money for our lost time without us asking for any compensation .
Although the motorhome is not as new as those of more expensive companies, the price of rental and personalised service offered makes this company one that we would use again and would thoroughly recommend Kiwi motorhome to any potential renters.

hire rate, unlike with many other companies who charge an additional fee to cover this RUC. To top it all off, Nicholas' attentive and prompt service all the way from my initial inquiry right through to airport/hotel pick-ups and drop-offs instilled complete confidence in us that choosing Kiwi Motorhomes had been the best decision we could have made, and made the whole experience a breeze. I would wholeheartedly recommend Kiwi Motorhomes to anyone.

We hired a camper recently from Kiwi Motorhomes and received first class service. The booking process, pick up and drop off was simple and very efficient. The price beat other Motorhome hire companies easily and there were lots of inclusions that you would normally pay additional fees for i.e. bikes, outdoor chairs. The camper was spotlessly clean and contained everything we needed to enjoy our break. We have used some well known companies in the past to hire from but Kiwi Motorhomes will now definitely be our first choice for future bookings!

We rented the Kiwi Motorhome in February 2015 for 3 weeks, we are a family with 2 adults and 2 children (3 and 5 years). At the time of booking we would have paid NZD 350 per day for a comparable car with a 2nd class company like britz, with a 1st class company like maui or kea we would have paid even more. With Kiwi motorhome we paid NZD 200 per day which safed us NZD 150 per day. We also received a lot of free extras like child seat, navigation system, bicycles, dvds and toys for the children. Our children loved to watch disney movies while we where driving. Nicholas the owner even bought a scooter for our daughter and we could keep it after our trip. Nicholas is absolutely obsessed to make his customers happy. He is the most wonderful Kiwi we met in New Zealand. Do not search anymore, book here and now. Heinrich, Heike, Mia and Neo from Germany

My fiance, David, and I started planning our dream vacation to NZ last Aug. Knowing that I would read every review I could find, David gave me the task of "trip research". After spending weeks reading Ranker's reviews, every thread attached to these reviews and cross referencing these on other NZ travel websites, I told him we HAD to book with Nick at Kiwi Motorhomes. So many customers absolutely LOVED their experience with him!
Among many emails to Nick, I asked him if for some unknown reason we had to cancel could our deposit be refunded. My concern was that we were booking a trip 5 months in the future and one never knows what may happen. Nick explained that if we had to cancel he would refund our deposit if he could re book the weeks we reserved. So we booked our 6 week vacation to begin Feb.
On November 10 the unforeseen happened. David fell 10 feet from our roof and shattered his pelvis and elbow. We spent 9 days in the hospital and he underwent 2 surgeries. After 25 screws and 3 plates were put in place, we were told he would recover nicely, but would not be able to walk normally until Feb. 1...the unforeseen had happened.
After cancelling our plane tickets, I emailed Nick. I had a feeling he would understand, but I was not prepared for his incredible sympathy. He said he completely understood (he himself severely hurt himself recently), he even shared advice with David about eating all those sweet treats friends would bring :). Within a few weeks, our trip was re booked and Nick refunded our deposit.
If you ever doubt the personal experience you receive when dealing with a small business owner...I say don't question it! Nick gives testament to this.
Needless to say, as soon as we are able to re book our trip to NZ we will be calling Nick!
Thank you Nick for your understanding and kindness.

Great service from Nick, we were well looked after throughout our three weeks of our monster journey across both North & South island. Nick advised on some aspects of our route, especially where campervan's can't possibly go! The free added extras in our 5 berth included maps, guides, bikes, books, games, mobile phone with credit, body boards, binos, excepting the boards (as the sea was b.... freezing) all were very well used and saved cash on any extra hire fees. Nick kindly met us at Auckland with the van topped up and ready to go (just add food!) and then collected at Christchurch before we departed home for a cold and wet Blighty.
Brilliant trip, no issues at all, with some great memories and photo's, we'll be back one day and looking to book with Nick again.

My wife, our 2 young daughters and I rented this camper van from Nick for 16 days in January / February 2014. The van itself surpassed all of our expectations. It was clean, comfortable (more than enough room for four plus lots of luggage) and drove really well, even on the steep windy mountain roads! Nick met us outside our hotel in Auckland which saved us trying to navigate our way out of the city centre and we dropped him at the airport. We toured the North Island and drove about 2000km. Our daughters enjoyed the DVD player, the boogie boards and the bikes that were free additions to our booking, and the sat nav and NZ mobile phone came in very handy for the grownups! The van doesn't have any company markings which means you don't stand out as a tourist but do get lots of friendly waves from NZ campervan owners. The big battery and solar panel meant that we didn't need to plug into a powered site all of the time.
We had everything we needed to cook for the family including table and chairs so that we could eat outside in the sunshine.
Nick thought of everything, so all the small extras such as washing line and pegs, a library of books, not to mention the road maps and campsite guide meant we didn’t have any worries at all during our trip.

We rented a 6 person motorhome from Kiwi Motorhomes, had it brought up to our hotel near the Auckland Airport, drove all around the North Island for 14 days (down the west coast to Wellington and up the east side), and absolutely loved our trip. Nick, the owner, was super helpful in looking over our planned itinerary and making suggestions that turned out to be invaluable! On top of this, it was fun to have a bunch of free extras like bikes, a boogie board, camp chairs, books, and a cell phone (which was SUPER helpful).

The motorhome is a bit older than some of the ones we passed on the road, but it was very clean and worked great and only cost a fraction of the newer ones I looked into renting from bigger companies. We had one problem mechanically, but it was something totally unforeseeable, and Nick had it all fixed up in no time at all.

All in all we had a fantastic trip and would recommend Kiwi Motorhomes to everyone. It's the perfect way to see New Zealand and keep your plans flexible!

Rented 6 passenger RV from Kiwi Motorhomes and toured from Auckland to Queenstown over 10 days travelling a total of 2500 km. The motorhome was clean, had everything we needed, worked extremely well and was comfortable for the six adults in our party. We always dealt directly with Nicholas, the owner, which was a real plus. He is very personable and went out of his way to ensure that we had an enjoyable trip. Great value and service. Would highly recommend Kiwi Motorhomes.

Our family have used Kiwi Motorhomes several times. We've always had a fun family time and keep coming back to Nick and this business as we have been so pleased with the service provided. The motorhome has everything we need and it is always clean and well presented. We recently took the motorhome away to a moto-x event (Nick was able to accommodate our booking despite the late notice) and the van coped really well pulling our full trailer over all the windy, steep roads! It's a pleasure to work with Nick and we would certainly recommend his business to anyone!

Thanks to Nick we had the most wonderful time, we were met at Wellington airport, we were even provided with extra blankets and hot water bottles for the cold nz weather. Nick then flew to Auckland airport to meet us before flying home. Nick is very caring and compassionate, we were caught up in the pacific horizon fall and lost our money, when Nick heard about this he offered us a discount which helped with the stress we were already under.
I would like to thank Nick and his family for the best time ever, and would definitely recommend them to any visitors wanting that great NZ welcome.

Have a very Merry Christmas from our family to yours.

We have Nick to thank for a lovely kiwi experience! He really went out of his way to help us. He picked us up at our B&B in Wellington with full tanks of diesel, cooking gas, and fresh water, and drove us to the ferry. The van itself has a few miles under the hood, but it is well kept and worked just fine for us. Nick met up with us at our B&B after the trip with a big friendly smile. We were again reminded of his kindness today as we received a letter from him with a toy that one of our children had dropped behind a seat and couldn't get out.
Thank you Nick!
You're welcome to Stockholm to rent our future sailboat anytime!

Excellent customer service. Nick, the owner, did everything he could to make our experience enjoyable. The van itself is reliable and well looked after, although it does struggle on steeper hills. It is fully featured yet slightly dated, and the price reflects this - it is very good value.

Thanks for the kind review. It was lovely to meet you all and I'm glad you enjoyed your trip. After investigation into the power issue up steeper hills, a small leak was found in one of the turbo hoses. A new hose was fitted which has rectified the problem. Thanks again for taking the time to review us.

Motorhome drove easily and was well presented. No negative issues at all.
This vehicle is a bit older than the the ones rented out by the big dealers but it is well maintained and this is more than reflected in the price so why pay more? We will definitely go back.

Owner Nick kindly donated 4 days' use of his camper to our school's fundraiser, and we won the bid! Despite the fact that they obviously did not make any money on our rental, they treated us like cherished customers and were extremely helpful, even delivering the camper to our door step. We had a fabulous time and everything worked fine, was clean and tidy. The only slight criticism that we could come up with (after a lot of hard thinking) is that the camper is clearly not as new and shiny as the ones you would get from Maui or other large commercial companies, but this is obviously reflected in the rental price. All in all, it is defintely a good, clean camper, and if you don't insist on a shiny new one,we can whole-heartedly recommend Nick and his Camper. The service you get with it is fantastic. And we actually liked the fact, that the van did not have a company logo plastered all over it, outing you as a tourist wherever you go. You could almost kid yourself into thinking this is your very own van....

Van itself fine, collecting arrangements good, spoilt a little by some of the accesories being broken - obviously not checked.

Reviewed over 11 years ago

Kiwi Motorhomes responds:

Unfortunately, it is hard to check every accessory/utensil etc...For instance you can't check a can opener works except by opening a can. We rely heavily on customer feedback at the end of their trip. We have a notice inside the van asking customers to inform us on their return and also saying if anything is broken that the customer can replace it during their journey and we will refund them when they bring the van back. All our accessories, such as bikes, games, etc..are given free of charge.
