Great campervan (Mercedes 2+1 berth), well equipped and maintained, good service and helpfull staff.
Not as luxury as we thought. First van had error. Staff at Kea at first didn't seem bothered or helpful. Interior wasn't as nice as we thought and certainly wasn't worth the extra money
The booking experience with Kea was excellent. Very helpful and easy to book. Even a change at the last minute was accommodated. The motorhome itself was a little small for the 5 of us. The bed above the cab was excellent. Really roomy. The rest of the motorhome was quite compact and we found the bathroom a bit impractical and rarely used it. Two living areas did come in handy but storage space was a bit tight for 5-6 people. The motorhome was clean and well equipped however next time we would probably opt for something a bit larger.
The only camping map where each location is approved by every regional council in NZ. So if it shows on the map, you’re allowed to stay.
The Official Camping Map of NZ, is also in association with…

I chose Kea because it had no extra costs (gps, full insurance, kids seats....), for the diesel heater, for the location of the kids' seats (just behind the cabin and not at the rear) and for the good comments I read. All together it makes Kea very competitive and great value for money.
We got a 6 berth (although booked a 4 berth) and we were given all the necessary explanations, even in Spanish!!!! which made it a lot easier.
The motorhome was great, very easy to drive, very comfortable, really well equipped (there's everything you need: towels, duvets, sheets, cutlery...), with plenty of space to fit all our clothes and more.
We chose the prepaid fuel option so the only thing we had to think about was to empty the waste water tank and the toilet cassette in the drop off.
I would recommend Kea to anyone who doesn't want any hidden charges and wants to enjoy a very comfortable motorhome.
Exemplary service from start to finish from these guys. I did a lot of research before choosing Kea and Sarah Webster from the parent company Thl would happily answer all of my questions. We are a family with three small children so safety and fitting of car seats was a primary concern. But I also like my comforts and the 6 berth Kea was a great place to stay for 10 days.
The large rear windows are fantastic and watching the sun rise in Coromandel whilst we had our breakfast is a sight I'll never forget. We went towards the end of May and the Kea with its diesel heater and great insulation was always toasty whether we were on a powered site or stating off the grid.
I choose Kea because of their zero excess and the fact we didn't need to fill up the gas bottle on return, because we'd pre paid the diesel we just needed to empty the dump tank on dropoff. I managed to scruff the van on a post in a campsite (easily done with such a big truck) - the insurance form filling out on return was made painless thanks to Nelson and Gudrun and because of the zero excess we didn't need to pay anything.
I'd recommend Kea 100% to anyone who likes luxury, good service and doesn't want unexpected costs. You may be able to shave a few dollars off the bill from a different company but I'm positive that once the free child seats, zero excess and free lpg is factored in, the Kea price would best most competition.
Thanks again to Sarah Webster, Nelson and Gudrun. Thanks also to Marlene for the easy picku and detailed explanation of the van.
Oh - and get the Duvalay bedding. Pay the extra, they are so so comfy and makes an already excellent van even more luxurious.
A long wait to pickup the van but was upgraded to a better van for free. Had a problem with starting the van after setting off and after sales support was excellent. Had a mechanic on site at 8am the next morning. All OK.
We love to meet travellers on the road and share in some of the freedom. That's why we invite you to come and stay for free at our chill riverside overnight parking area in the Motueka Valley at the top of the South Island.
