Very, very helpful company. Vicky & Steve did all they could to provide us with suitable camper van despite being the busiest time of year. We had to change vans because of availability towards the end of our booking, but the changeover was very easy and we ended up with a larger, more comfortable van at no extra cost. The vans were very well equipped and proved very reliable. Vicky & Steve responded very quickly to all our many queries & questions. G and J Campers highly recommended.
Great experience with Kia Ora Campers.
The camper was well maintained, drove really well, and communication with Kia Ora was easy and reactive!
We've had 2 breakdowns the first week. Nothing major but annoying. They handled it the best they could and we're fair with us at the end of the rental.
They helped us find a great place for the last night to catch our flight leaving very early in the morning...
Really happy with rental! Can only recommend this company!! We had a 6berth for 2 adults and 3 kids and we had plenty of room...
Access savings worth hundreds of $$ on Top Ranked NZ Accommodation and Activities for just $1 per day.
The van had one or two issues but they were sorted out. Very friendly service. Had an amazing trip.

Fabulous trip. Highly recommended.
I was concerned about booking with other companies due to many poor reviews. We had left it a bit late but fortunately Rankers managed to source a rental from Kia Ora who have a great rep. We had an older Mercedes Getaway but it was perfect for the 2 of us. First campervan experience. The van performed well and was surprisingly comfortable to sleep in. We had it for 3 weeks and had a great time. The only issue we encountered was a puncture. Vicky promptly arranged for the AA to come and switch wheels and then we eventually took it to a garage who fixed the puncture and Vicky paid them over the phone.
Great experience and we will use these guys again in future if we make it back to NZ.

The negative points:
KIA ORA CAMPERS does not manage its vehicles directly, but passes through service companies (during delivery and upon return). KIA ORA was to pick us up at our guesthouse to take us to the delivery place, but after some difficult explanations (we do not speak English very well, especially on the phone), we took a taxi (refunded). When delivering the camping car nobody could explain how the vehicle worked (gearbox and engine start, in particular), which was different from a French model. During heavy rain, our camper took the water from the roof (skylight and air conditioner) = we had to put tape with a plastic film under the skylight, because the water ran on our bed ... The answer of KIA ORA was telling us to fold our bed, but did not tell us how it was when it was raining at night!
The camping chairs were the worst we've seen during our trip to the other rental companies, and we did not dare to move, as they were so fragile.
The equipment for camping was really reduced, even for 2 people: 2 glasses, 2 cups, 2 bowls, 2 plastic boxes, 1 kitchen knife (broken), no colander, no toilet brush, ...
The positive points:
The vehicle was 240,000km, but worked very well.
Kia Ora Campers responds:
Thanks for your feedback Jean , although a little harsh.
As owners of Kia Ora Campers we do manage our campers directly but we can't be everywhere unfortunately .
For a start we ordered 2 taxis , that you missed so with the language barrier we got you to get one yourself , that cost us over $100 .
The camper was explained VERY well but because you couldn't speak any english some things may have been missed . i.e. Having your foot on the brake whilst putting into drive , which i would think is compulsory in all auto's.
And after driving it already would have learnt .
Regarding the camp chairs we don't charge for them and if they break we ask you to replace them and we pay for that, larger moire expensive ones take up to much room
also at no cost you got a GPS, camp table, toilet chemical and portable bbq.
as a 2-berth they are set out for 2 of everything so why would you expect more as space is always an issue for equipment.
We are proud to say that we are 100% contactable without have to go to options and getting sent to voice mail.
We hired a two berth Ultima Mercedes campervan from Kia Ora. The initial internet enquiries were well handled by Vicky and Steve and all the options were explained clearly and efficiently. Prices were good . On arrival at Christchurch, we were met by friendly staff who explained the workings of the van and took the time to ensure that the motorhome suited our requirements. It was well appointed with everything you could need on a tour of New Zealand and the layout was superb with good quality fittings. We were really comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed our trip. The van performed beautifully and we had no problems at all during our tour of both South and North Islands in which we clocked up over 5000 km. Thanks Kia Ora for a memorable trip which we will never forget.
After an extensive review of well rated companies providing motorhomes in NZ I finally decided for Kia Ora and booked in april 2018 for a December/January rental with my family. Unexpectedly in September 2018 the rental contract was cancelled. Not nice to start all over and try to find available vehicles.
On our second trip to New Zealand in 2018, I was looking for a camper that lived up to our expectations, after not having had such a good experience on our first trip with MAUI. Kia Ora Camper as a family business came to the right place, as we believe that a family business thinks and acts differently than a group like the THL Group, to which MAUI has been a member for some time.
Our questions were answered promptly by Vicky and Steve and we booked the camper with you.
After our arrival in Christchurch we were, as agreed, picked up at the airport and the transfer took place quickly and very important UNCOMPLICATED !!!
After about 1 hour we could start already. Everything went well and we had a fantastic journey with unforgettable moments and breathtaking views. Even the return was quick and uncomplicated.
I deliberately write my statements in German, as I miss in this forum German reports so far.
Many thanks to Vicky and Steve for these memorable weeks, even though we did not meet in person, I can only recommend these companies. If we travel again in 3-4 years to this beautiful country, we will certainly be renewed with Vicky and Steve book a camper.
We had a wonderful time in NZ for 18 days. We used the Rankers maps all the time as didn't have wifi whilst travelling to locate freedom and DOC Campsites utilising their weekly pass which saved us $. Only stayed in a caravan park once to catch up on washing near Fox Glacier. Only time had trouble finding a dump station was on the last day in Christchurch. Had to ring the owner to find there was a new BP near the airport which had one. Not sure if that is one is on the map yet. When shopping at Countdown (Woolies) we were given a fuel card which saved us more $ when filling up with fuel. Thank you to Rankers, made our trip stress free.
Everything was superb with Kia Ora Campers! During our seven weeks with the camper we had some minor problems which we could solve quickly thanks to Steve. I recommend them highly and would book again.
Vicky was responsive throughout and the campervan was great. I enjoyed my interactions with Kia Ora Campers and the price was competitive
My experience is a three weeks period just before Christmas 2018 that I have spent travelling through NZ with my wife for our honeymoon. Our campervan was the 2018 Freedom. We chose Kia Ora, despite being a small and unknown brand, for the positive reviews we read all over this site. I have to say this was my first experience in a campervan and probably I should have chosen a bigger van cause the Kia Ora Freedom 2018 turned out being quite uncomfortable. The van itself was quite new and, on the paper, it had all the right features: self contained with toilet and shower, microwave, solar panels, rear camera etc. As per our experience: the van was not ready when we arrived at the rental location and we had to wait for almost two hours while it was cleaned and prepped. The owner kindly brought us to the nearest supermarket and we spared some of that wait doing our groceries. Living in the van has not been easy, it had a number of small issues like the heating system refusing to work sometimes or the toilet flush that wouldn't stop after the button was depressed but most of those things would solve themselves quite easily in short time and Steve was always available on the phone to help. Another bad point of the campervan was the fresh water and grey water tanks size, definitely too small to stay 3 days off the grid as well as the absence of a garbage bin with a lid. Also, the van only had fixed side window and none equipped with a flyscreen therefore we only could use a small roof vent that had a net fitted on it. Last but not least it had very limited storage space and every time we had to pickup something like table and chairs we had to undo the bed, not practical at all. Overall I'd say we paid quite a high price for what we had got (250$/day over 3 weeks) and now with hindsight I would get something slightly bigger for a small difference in price or something much smaller if I had to save money.
Steve & Vicki were so great to work with. Answered my emails very quickly and made sure we got the camper we wanted. I loved having no worry’s when it came to our campervan and highly recommend Kia Ora to all my friends traveling to New Zealand.
