Nice place to spend a rainy day in Christchurch. We hadn't thought about Antarctica a lot beforehand. This centre gives you quite a good idea and offers a lot of fun activities for the whole family.
Informative and for kids, expensive.
Very informative and gave you a real taste of the conditions these explorers worked in.
Very interesting museum with so many activities on the Antarctic. People there are very kind.
Go for it , spend about 3hrs to enjoy varies activities you can only experience in Antarctic here. Don't miss the 10.30am or 3.30pm blue penguins feeding time where you can have close encounters with them, 4D extreme Theatre is a must too , very beautiful amazing !
Great attraction - three hours well spent - don't go for the short visit unless you really don't have time for the whole thing. My only complaint - the snowstorm was a bit tame...
Fantastic show - drive on the ice tractor depicts just what it is like to drive on ice in Antarctica. The 4D movie of the ship travelling to the South Pole is so realistic, you even get showered with spray coming over the bow of the ship. Seats move with the ships movement over the waves.
Very detailed information provided. Great activities such as the cooling room which got down to -18 degrees.
Kind of a museum about the Antarctic and everything around. Rides in a snow mobile and standing in an arctic storm - quite expensive!
A fun activity for the kids, but way overpriced and they haven't added or changed much since we were there about 5 years ago!
Not at all brown away with this experience.
The highlight was the Hagland ride.
We took a 6 year, who expected to see more Penguins. The storm was too noisy and scared her the 4D movie was not really suitable for under 10's, the screaming from all the kids was not a good experience.
It was OK, but the price didn't feel right. $160 for three of us ?
We were disappointed in this for the price we paid. Haggling ride was good, and storm room not too bad, but the rest was ordinary.

Quite expensive but interesting. Young children got quite bored. Hagland ride was included in the price.
For children only - penguins and antarctic wind simulation.
This was a really interesting place about Antarctica. They even had a snow storm room where you can see what real cold is like. Definitely worth visiting. Christchurch is a beautiful city and we had a great night out at the bars in Riccarton

Very good for a 1/2 day experience but would have been diffiult to fill a whole day.
Is pricey but unique. Was expecting more from the snow storm - am used to Wellington winds so 40km ph felt like a breeze. Penguins were cute. Kids loved the haggling ride, especially my 3 yo. The Luggage lockers were really handy.
Impressive and informative.
Great fun way to learn about the Antarctic. You even get to experience a blizzard, well worth a visit.
This is a very unique place about the south pole. You can experience a blizzard and see penguins. Fully Reccommend it
Something a bit different. Probably wouldn't have gone if not on holiday...a little pricey. Didn't see the penguin feeding as they had a problem with it. Haglund ride not for the faint hearted...it's a pretty rough ride...surprisingly so. Enjoyed the 4d movie and the staff were friendly and helpful. Good place to take the kids. Cannot recommend the cafeteria. They reheat their food in a microwave....and not for long enough.
Lots of interaction, kids enjoyed it. Did 'backstage' and got close up view of penguin (in our sons lap once), Haglund ride was cool. 4D movie was neat - would recommend!!
OK but not much to see.
A little expensive but enough displays and information to keep the adults and the kids interested.
One of those attractions that falls into the "a little expensive but what the heck we are on holiday" category.
Access savings worth hundreds of $$ on Top Ranked NZ Accommodation and Activities for just $1 per day.
Good. Slightly expensive but lots of info so you can spend a decent 2-3 hours there. Plenty there to entertain all ages.
Interesting establishment but expensive in the extreme for what is on offer. I agree with an eralier comment that the Canterbury Museum is every bit as informative to what this place has on offer.
It's a tourist trap which as a New Zealander, I found embarrassing in the least
Very expensive for an Antartic centre $143.00 (2A + 3C). It was good there was an ice side which was very slippery. The audio visual was good and theres a snowstorm that goes down to -18*C
Very enjoyable experience.
An informative centre about the Antarctic (lots of things to read and films to watch). A storm room filled with snow and ice and minus 8 degrees with a chill wind of minus 17 degrees. A sanctuary for Little Blue Penguins - good to watch at feeding time, and a ride on a Hagalund - which was really good fun.
it's possible to get a translation in German. Riding in the Haggerlund mobile is very funny and exciting.
Haagland ride made it worth every penny!
The outdoor action and exhibition were nice but the price was too high.
Expensive for what you get, but informative about research, cool video, and fun ride in the Haagland. Also, you get to survive at -18 degrees!
Family orientated. Lots to see and do - great for rainy days.
Price was too high for the content. Although the snow blizzard was interesting - but given the reality, probably not severe enough.
To much money for the experience.
Place was good but price is appalling. Our tour books said $31 p/p but they have amalgamated a ride and upped price to $48 p/p. The ride was not allowed for many medical reasons.
don't do it waste of time and money.Grab a library card and get 241 if you do.
and dont go on the penguin bus get the Number 10 from bus exchange with a metro pass WAY CHEAPER
if you going Dunedin, oamaru,Catlins you'll see plenty of blue penguins
storm room is ok.
Over rated over priced and over it
Very expensive for what it is. The really cold room is good fun but the highlight for me was the little blue penguins! They were so cute and seeing them at feeding time was especially good. This place was a good time-filler before going to the airport.
From an adults point of view fine but for a foreign child difficult to understand & learn.
hummm-- ok- but - -too expensive and staff seemed keen to move us through.
Was nice, not more than that; price a little high.
I took the whole family last weekend and was blow away at the cost. It is just not good value for money. What is much better is the free antarctic display area at the museum near the park in the central city. It is free and facinating plus loads of other stuff to see.
For kiwi families on a budget avoid. Tourist trap.
O.K. to pass time on a rainy day. Some interesting features but generally disappointing. Cafe awful...only bad coffee on my whole trip!
if you've time and are interested in the Antarctic, then this is a place for you. It explains to you all about the expeditions, wild life, history aswell as others. The Hagglund ride should definately being partaken in! The storm chamber is also worth doing.
The have big luggage lockers at affordable rates. Airport is dead opposite, so you can do this before you fly.
Great example of what Antarctic might be like. Haggland ride and storm area an excellent feature.
The biggest waste of $35 ever! It should be free.
Penguin Quest 08 ended at the Antarctic Attraction. We were unsuccessful in spotting penguins in the wild, but really enjoyed seeing the little blues at the center during feeding time. The exhibits were interesting, but a little too geared for kids. Well worth a visit though.
Was really fun to visit, as it was cold inside the storm was a real novelty!
So much fun there, see penguins & get to the storm room where temp drops tp -18degreesC. It's so coooold... :)
Really exciting in the storm room, advise to dress in warm clothing.
A lot of information is offered which makes it a very interesting activity.
Really enjoyed it, especially the snow/storm room!
Really informative. Worth the visit.
Very Informative. Enjoyed the cold room and the Haggland ride.
A little bit expensive for what we got.
A little less than I expected.
Lots of information about animals was nice.
