Wherever this freedom spot is, it's impossible to find now.
Some say a house being built on it,
Nowhere obvious to me..
Does it even exist now?
Sadly with a small dog I couldn't then go to to camping ground.
So no joy

Cool little town.
Seems to be very few/no signs around saying overnight camping. The actual spot marked on the app has a gravel car park and is off the road, but (I stayed there, good view) is a wastewater treatment facility.

You can basically freedom camp anywhere in Duvauchelle (see map) so we camped on a grassy bit by the Holiday park, it was pitch black dark when we arrived so we drove around for a bit but turned out great.
No toilets in the immediate area, by there are some close to the Allied gas station. Woke up to beautiful views and sunshine!

Great place to stay!
It's really beautiful here. There are no toilet facilities so its definitely just for self contained vehicles.

Freedom camping in a self-contained vehicle is allowed almost everywhere in Duvauchelle.
We parked next to the Allied gas station and close to the toilets, on the side of the road and had no issues at all. The road is very quiet at night and gets busy in the morning, but it was fine. Toilets are clean with water and soap. Great view on the bay.

Absolutely amazing spot, especially to watch the sunset.
Right by the water, 5 mins to Akaroa township, and no sandflies! Lovely friendly neighbors, but make sure you park on the gravel area! :)

We stayed right by the holiday park, right next to the bay.
There was no sign or anything saying you could stay there, but we didn’t get a fine. Either we got lucky or it’s actually ok to stay there. No bathrooms or anything, but being self contained, it was a great spot.
