Kai Iwi Beach is about 10mins out of town and is patrolled during the summer. A great family beach with safe swimming.

Well worth visiting. $14 for as long as you can spend in the six different thermal pools.

This is my pick of the thermal pools in Rotorua. It has the coolest walk to a boiling pool which is like a cauldron straight from the middle of the earth, totally amazing. The pools are clean, and lots of different ones to choose from. There is an adults pool too, which makes it nice to relax without kids bouncing balls off your head. Totally worth the drive to get there, about 20 minutes south of Rotorua.

Just a lovely setup. Quiet and relaxing, no tour buses or crowds. The upper pools are hot, 10min there and you feel like a delicately poached salmon! The walk to the spring is definitely worthwhile, bring shoes as the trail is tough on bare feet. Unlike Rotorua, no smell of sulphur.

Fantastic pools because you have the main pool which has a shallow area which is perfect for the kids. The other pools are warmer and close enough to do some pool hopping and then back into the main pool.
Stay in the campground and you get access prior to opening time in the morning.

I am very disapointed in the service. It is a 35 minute drive to Waikite and I arrived at the resturant at 7.00 on a saturday night to be told that they had stopped serving meals. I had to turn around and drive all the way back to Rotorua to get dinner as there are no other restaurants in the area. In my opinion this is far to early to be refusing to serve customers.
