Do it on your own! Keep open minded. Use i-sites. Keep eyes open for free festivals (buskers in Christchurch was cool!). Take time and give yourself enough time! Talk to other travellers! Someone will have done what you are planning!

We surprised our wedding guests with a cruise along the Kerikeri inlet between the ceremony and reception. They all said what an enjoyable and fun way to spend the afternoon. Some even went back for another trip the following day! Thank you Sue and Alan

What an enjoyable trip. As an ex marine engineer it was great to find someone as knowledgeable and enthusiastic as Alan. He made the trip most enjoyable for everyone with his commentary down the river covering both the history of the area and comments about the workings of the steam engine. I must say that a reciprocating steam engine has much more soul than a turbine installation! It is good that older types of engines are still in existence both for us oldies to reminisce and for the younger ones improving their education and appreciating how things were done years ago. Thank you Alan for a memorable trip.

As a salty old nappy flapper, come river rat, I'm hard to impress, but if mechanical propulsion is to be tolerated, you cant do better than relax aboard the steam ship `Eliza Hobson' as she puffs and squeeks along the beautiful Kerikeri river, sliding quietly past bird life and the plop of fish jumping.Alan and Sue transported me back to a place in time that stays with me, a little like the smell of a fresh loaf of bread reminds one of home. small, personal, genuine experiences like this, are the stuff of memory that makes travel worthwhile.

As a naval Architect, I give Lambourne's Kerikeri river cruises aboard the steamboat "Elisa Hobson" top marks for accurately reproducing NZ's past marine history, backed up by their interesting and witty commentaries on local historical events.

As someone who has lived in Kerikeri much of his life, I was surprised to hear some stories of local history I didn’t know. Also, as a lifetime “steamie”, I found the steam boat experience a new one, although the smell and sounds were quite nostalgic. Alan and Sue were great hosts. Alan’s story telling, lively sense of humour and engaging manner made the trip worthwhile, apart from the steamboating and scenic bonuses.
