Stayed at the Lodge overnight 3rd March - Joe and family great hosts - and enjoyed the company of others, accommodation very good. Only one on the 4th for the trip to the Bridge, so was spoilt - Joe has such excellent knowledge of the area and one could appreciate his love for the area. It was one of my "Bucket List" activities. We are in the older age group, but it is worth a visit Gold card people!

A brilliant bike ride with an even better Lodge at the end. Joe and his team deserve maximum praise for the way they came out to (potentially) rescue us with tents and survival gear which, fortunately, we didn't need. And the hospitality at the Lodge was first class. Even if you go the "soft" way by jet boat from Pipiriki it's an expereience not to be missed. A special spiritual corner of the world where the call of nature, the Whanganui River, the vast landscape, the mystique of the Jetboat tour to the Bridge to Nowhere etc etc will touch your heart. Stay at the Lodge - a beautiful sanctuary set high overlooking the river - catering for all your needs in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. You may even find out something about yourself. Huge thanks to the great people who work hard to make this happen. I will never forget. Andy

The bridge to nowhere trip and subsequent stay at the lodge has been one of the highlights of our trip. The trip up and down the river is awesome with truly spectacular scenery. The walk to the bridge is really pleasant, but the whole experience is made by Joe's story telling and explanation of all the events that led to the settlement of the area, construction of the bridge and subsequent abandonment of the settlement.
Joe is passionate about the Whanganui river and is a relaxed and gracious host . The lodge is really comfortable, spotlessly clean, has a great
atmosphere and Libby provided a wonderful dinner.

The Bridge to Nowhere jet boat tour was amazing. The bridge itself is interesting, and the hike to the bridge is enjoyable and not difficult. The scenery as we traveled through the Whanganui River Valley was spectacular, absolutely unbelievable!!! Our tour guide, Joe, was knowledgeable and great fun. He provided wonderful customer service, even following up after the tour with good ideas - service above and beyond the call.

The weather was heading wet, Joe arrived on his personal highway [the river] in his jet boat to pick up the five passengers on this trip to nowhere.
The experience that unfolded could not be described without excessive use of language - it was awsome. We go up the river, its waterfalls, the cliffs, the slotted gullies all rolling out for ever in front of us. We see blue ducks winging away in front of us and occasional canoeists paddling downstream. We had the area to ourselves. Peace and excitement all rolled into one. We land at the pathway to the Bridge to Nowhere ad after a snack, start up the easy track and boardwalk to the bridge - 45 minutes away. We pass through regenerating bush and see wild goats feasting on the new growth of fragile indigenous trees - shame but it has to stop in order to regrown the natural. finally, the bridge. The sun is out now and rain all gone. Wonderful, gorgeous and unique.
You will enjoy your trip with Joe or his sons.

After finishing our 4 day tramp along the Matemateaonga track we were invited for morning coffee and biscuits at Joe's Lodge, where we were able to read many pictorial history books about Wanganui and its beautiful river, in preparation for our jet boat trip up stream to the Bridge to nowhere. Joe's laid back hospitality, knowledge of the early river settlements and skillful handling of his jet boat was outstanding. Our boat trip up river, the 40 minute walk in to the bridge and return trip to Pipiriki was one of the highlights of our week in the Whanganui National Park. We only have one regret. We should have missed out staying at Puketotara hut and spent our last night at Joes well appointed lodge and listened to more of his entertaining experiences.

The Bridge to Nowhere Package is a must !
That was amazing ! Erwarten Sie keine Luxusherberge, sondern ein unvergessliches event mit grandiosem Naturerlebnis. Dies hoffentlich bei schönem Wetter.

Well, what can you say about Joe. He's a real nowhere man, living in his nowhere lodge, making all his nowhere plans for everybody. He has a point of view, knows not where he is going to (thank God Mandy - the real power behind the throne back in Raetihi - Ben, Matt and Libby do). When you visit Mandy Joe and the team you can pick the easy or the hard way to arrive and depart the Lodge. The bike ride in from Raetihi is definitely easier and more pleasant - even for those of us who have come of age so to speak - than the jet boat ride up river. It's a real breeze. The paddle out from The Lodge (a year earlier) was equally pleasant. Joe and his crew have all the search and rescue bases covered as recent biking companions Bill, Alan, Angela and paddling companion Gabrielle can testify. Not that we needed them of course. The second trip was as good as the first. Any ideas for a third trip Joe?

If you want the "Deliverence" experience without the hillbillies this is the canoe trip for you! Almost sixty miles in three days paddling down the incredible Wanganui river with all you need on board. Stopping overnight at wilderness campsites and meeting other travelers after a hard days paddling, It couldn't have been better. And you know however remote it feels, Joe and family are keeping an eye out for you. Thanks again Joe, fantastic!
