If you plan on doing all those adventure activities you've heard about - bring lots and lots of money. Everything is, unfortunately, quite expensive.

My husband and I had a fantastic time with Steve checking out the glow worms this weekend. The preparations and launch into the water were easy and streamlined, we didn't even have to get wet. The kayaking itself was absolutely enchanting as the light dimmed and the glow worms came out to shine. We will highly recommend this team and the glow worm trip to everyone we know!

November 2009, me & my dad went on a kayaking trip to the Glow worm Canyon on Lake McLaren. When we were on the lake, the tour guide told us all to steer clear of the rocks, but we bumped into the canyon a few times! My dad had to push us backwards. We could see trout in the water, swimming past us, the water wasn't very deep. When we go to the canyon, the sides were quite straight, with trees overhanging. The right side didn't have a lot of glow worms, but the left side was almost covered in them, blinking on & off. It was very cool to see. When we got back to the car, they gave us all very hot chocolate, which was too hot for me to finish, but it was good. I definitely want to do it again.

We wnet on the Glow Worm tour with Steve on 18th June 2010.
Our 8 year old Daughter had never kayaked before and loved it.
Our 11 year old son had done some kayaking at a School Camp earlier in the year and loved been back on the water.
We all had a fantastic time and learned heaps about Glow Worms and the Power Station from Steve.
The Hot Chocolate and Chocolates at the end of the tour as well as the photo's was a lovely touch.
Would recommend this tour to anyone.
We hope to do it again one day.

The tour itself was amazing. It turned out to be just me and my boyfriend, and Steve kept us entertained the entire time with conversation and interesting facts about the area, glow worms, and stars. I was very happy with my tour and will book again through this company! Highly recommended for everyone!

We took the Gloworm tour with Steve on the 12th May
Excellent service from the beginning as we had to switch dates at short notice and they were really accomodating; nothing was too much bother for them.

The tour itself is great fun; really reasonable compared with the quotes we were given from other operators for the same trip (+$40.) Steve the guide was great, making it very interesting for us.

The hot drink and chocolates at the end were a nice touch!

Excellent! Perfect way to spend an evening, and a great way to get out of the house! Steve's scientific chat all about the Arachnocampa luminosa was great. Highly recommended to anyone and everyone.

Thanks Karen and Steve!

This tour was fantastic and was such a reasonable price. From the start when calling up and asking Sara for details about the various tours to the end of the glowworm tour with Steve, the staff were friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. Even though it was only the two of us on the tour Steve put in 110% and was an excellent guide who provided vast information about the area and the glowworms. The tour provides something a little different and the lake provides a beautiful setting to paddle around and relax. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and will recommend this tour to anyone who is staying in the bay of plenty region. Thanks to Steve and Sara for such a great experience.

We just completed our third trip to Mclaren Falls with Steve to see the glowworms by kayaking into the site. Each time we have gone with different people and each time all of us have been thrilled with the evening. Steve is very organized, makes a point of learning everyone's name , is professional in his approach and very conscious of making the trip a safe event but still fun . He is a knowledgeable and skilled kayaker. In the cavern he provided an excellent explanation of the life cycle of the glowworm. The hot chocolate and candy bars are a perfect way to end a great evening. We will be introducing other friends to this great experience which we can enjoy in the Bay of Plenty

This is a great tour, far better than any expectation. We were impressed with both the friendliness and professional approach that we had. Even though it was just us due to a cancellation, we had an excellent tour with a very interesting background on the lake, its role in the hydroplant and the glow worms themselves. Its very relaxing and perfect calm warm weather conditions was a bonus.
So thank you very much Steve for the tour.We will definetely recommend this trip to anyone.

A big thank you to John who took us out on the Glow worm tour at Lake McClaren (McClaren Falls Park) in Tauranga. Although I have been living in Tauranga for 4 years I haven't done this kayaking-at-night thing before... with my brother & his family from South Africa visiting this was an ideal opportunity to showcase them the unique beauty of New Zealand. And we were not disappointed! What a magical night: John met us at the designated spot right on time; his friendly & relaxed manner immediately put us all at ease. It was clear that John was confident in what he was doing, and this helped us 5 novices to kayaking feel safe. It works exceptionally well to set off on the tour just before sunset (rather than after dark) so that you have some time on the water, in daylight, to build confidence & familiarity before reaching the dark area where the glow worms are. Well done guys on a well thought-out plan! A truly FANTASTIC and MAGICAL experience - these guys are tops!

My glow-worm experience was wonderful. I enjoyed paddling as I watched the sunset, listening to the calls of the geese, swans and ruru (morepork)...and of course seeing the glow-worm cavern. John and Steve were very friendly, and made beginners feel safe and confident in the water. The hot milo and Crunchie bars afterwards were ververy much needed! I recommend the guys get everyone taking part to introduce themselves to each other - name, country - so that we know who we are kayaking with. Thanks for the best memory of 2009!

Had a fantastic Christmas Eve kayak to the glow worm canyon. Our guide was experienced and informative, and everyone in the group had a wonderful time throughout the entire experience. The glow worms were terrific and we all seemed to enjoy the trip more than a tour happening at the same time from Waimarino. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone!

On Dec. 15th 4 of us experienced the Glow Worm paddle.
The guide, John, really made us feel comfortable in a previously unexperienced adventure. His knowledge of the little critters was great and the stories of previous tours was quite funny. If ever in the Mt. Maunganui area, book a tour with this group and ask for John.
