We were told about the little blue penguins that come ashore an hour after dusk, on the waterfront to the north of Te Papa. A treat for us staying overnight in our camper at the Wellington Wharf.

Book well in advance for events - e.g. Wild Food Festival, Hokitika. When hiring a campervan - check very closely that everything works correctly.

My wife and I are from Australia and we hired an Esprit for 15 days. We flew into Christchurch and a driver was waiting as we exited Customs, which was very impressive and more than we were expecting! The staff in Christchurch was very helpful in getting us set-up and ready to go in the van. Both of us shared the driving and it didn’t prove difficult at all. We had planned our route carefully and stayed at campgrounds and DOC parks, and the van was very easy to use in both. We also hired a Kruze unit which the staff arranged at our request and this was absolutely fantastic as our GPS and on-board tour-guide. We would thoroughly recommend you get one to guide you through NZ. The van was very comfortable and was great value-for-money compared with other quotes we had received beforehand. We were a little nervous going with a company that we only knew from the internet, but all our dealings leading up to and through the entire trip were fine and we would definitely use this company again if we were to do another trip. We found them very business-like and providing you are prepared to act the same way, I don’t think you will have any problems at all. Our trip was very enjoyable and I can thoroughly recommend Kiwi Autohomes who played such a vital part in that. Because the van didn’t cause any concern, we were able to concentrate on enjoying our holiday! We hope you enjoy your trip too. New Zealand is indeed a very beautiful place.

Friendly, personal service and a fully equipped van (Riviera) in as new condition for a very good price. We researched vans extensively before going for this one: perfect seating/bedding arrangement (though passenger seats not that comfy for adults as quite upright and window in passenger area a bit high for small children so bring/buy/rent booster seats), diesel central heating and solar panels for battery recharging (so no need to be plugged in at campgrounds, even in the winter) and even a TV/DVD and an oven. Everything can be controlled/monitored from inside - eg no going out to turn off/on the gas as in other models and two gas bottles so you never run out. The decor is tasteful and the layout could not be improved. The VW Crafter has an energetic and economical engine with 6 speed gearbox and is very easy to drive once you get used to the size of the vehicle. I honestly think you would be hard to get better than this company and this vehicle. Highly recommended.

PS: Department of Conservation (www.doc.govt.nz) and Auckland Regional Council (www.arc.govt.nz) have excellent clean, safe overnight parking spots.

bsolutely, 100% EXCELLENT service from start to finish. Keran was an absolute pleasure and Roz and Ali in Chch were so extremely friendly and easy to deal with.
Our 6 Berth Riviera was immaculate and extremely comfortable. Heater was a little temperamental on 2 occasions but we managed to sort it out by restarting it and running the engine for a couple of minutes. Had a weird issue with water heater not working so after speaking to Keran, we sorted it out really quickly and had no trouble at all.
All facilities onboard were awesome. The only thing I'd suggest to make it more comfortable (especially for 3 or more people) would be a larger pot and a new frying pan, but then I love my cooking so that's just me being fussy. :)

Big draw card for this hire was that we could add additional tyre and windscreen insurance at only $5 per day as well as the bond being a credit card imprint instead of a $7000 deduction like some companies wanted to charge - seriously?? What are those people thinking??

I'd like to thank the entire crew for all their help and friendly service. You guys were amazing and we will DEFINITELY be keen to hire from you again on our next camper trip.

Thank you Kiwi Autohomes for the best NZ motorhome experience ever.
Due to the unfortunate recent earthquakes in the Christchurch region we had initially planned to postpone our trip but we were persuade by Keran to come anyway as he informed us that the damage was really restricted to the Christchurch CBD only. We were so glad that we heeded his advice as we were able to travel the roads of the South Island in very uncongested traffic.
We have rented motor homes from three different companies in the past years and without any doubt of contradiction we found Kiwi Autohomes by far the best. We hired the 6 berth Riveria for just the two of us as we love room to move. The VW van was immaculate and incredibly easy to manage. It’s a reasonably big van and if I had any criticism it would be to request that a reversing camera be installed. Still, my wife didn’t mind too much jumping out and being my guide. We had only one problem with the van and that was that the refrigerator wasn’t working. The motor ran but it never got cold. A quick phone call to Alison resulted in the problem being rectified in Dunedin the next day. It needed re-gassing. Wow, such friendly staff. Always so helpful and especially contactable at all times.
If you plan to also tour NZ with Kiwi Autohomes I strongly suggest that he get yourselves a copy of the New Zealand Department of Conservation camp site booklets. Most of their camping sites are situated in the most pristine and sometimes isolated places. All for a few dollars a night. Normally no facilities at these locations but what the heck, you’re in a fully self-contained home on wheels.
Do yourself, and your wallet a favour on your next NZ motorhome trip. Contact Kiwi Autohomes.

Keran has been fantastic to help me organizing my trip from France. He answered my emails very quickly, maximum 1 day. He proposes help to organize the ferry and he is very open to different options.
Ali & Roz were waiting for us in Christchurch and they welcomed us very warmly. The camper was very clean and ready: full of water, sheets...It also has a safe.
I returned the camper a sunday and Keran was waiting for us in Auckland. Taxi to transfer from the hotel to the airport is included.
I did not rate 10 because the heater did not work all the time: It first worked well but one morning we wake up in the cold.
The engine of the Riviera is very good and it's very easy to drive.
Well, I'm very happy having chosen Kiwi Autohomes.
Enjoy your trip

We hired the 6 berth Riviera Autohome for 2 weeks and never had one single problem with it. It was immaculately clean, well stocked and ran like a dream.

From the moment we made our first enquiry to the end of our hire, Keran was unbelievably helpful and understanding, which was greatly appreciated by us after our airfares were changed 3 (yes 3!!) times.

Kiwi Autohomes sent a shuttle (free of charge) to our motel to pick us up and take us to their depot to pick up the motorhome, which was a great relief to us.

Right from the moment we hired off Keran in Auckland through to drop off to Roz and Ali in Christchurch, everything ran smoothly and to plan. Keran, Roz and Ali were very approachable, happy and made us feel very much at ease with our hire.

If I could rate higher than a 10 I would :) .... thanks guys for making our holiday to New Zealand memorable.

First time traveller anywhere. Never used a campervan before. No worries, lovely, friendly, helpful people even when faced with a 67year old suffering "senior moments" and asking stupid questions. The van was roomy, well equipped and took us all over NZ from - Coromandel lovely if scary roads - everywhere between there and New Plymouth then down to Wellington and across to Picton - let me sleep through a 3.9 quake in Christchurch - then all over South island and back up to Auckland - 51 hard days driving with no problems at all. New Zealand is a stunningly beautiful country with the friendliest and most helpful people I have ever encountered and Kiwi Autohomes staff are first class ambassadors for their country. I will recommend them to anyone and everyone. Thank you Keran and Co. (Keran, what was our mileage?

We had the most marvellous time away.
Thank you so much for the exceptional quality of your vehicle.
It was outstandingly clean when we picked it up, and fully loaded with everything that was required. The staff in Christchurch were absolutely fantastic and they took the time to explain everything to us about the van. They went out their way to make sure we had a very comfortable trip.
The vehicle was an absolute dream to drive, and the comfort was way beyond our expectations. We travelled over two thousand km's in the 10 days and it cost just over two hundred dollars for our diesel. We never connected to the power once and only had to refill one of the gas bottles for the whole ten days away.
It would rate as Best and the cheapest holiday away we have had with the five of us. We have recommended your company to all of our friends, family and clients. We will be in touch with you again for our trip again next year.

Extended family trip, we hired 2 X 6 berth Riviera Motorhomes. The service we received from the very1st email was impeccable. These people were very obliging and nothing was a problem to them. The only "problem" was due to some dirty gas which caused a big area of sooty like stuff on the outside of the vehicle. However, it caused no inconvenience during the trip.. The vehicles were spotless & well equipped.
Price was extremely competitive, I did some extensive shopping around. What sold it for me, was the fact that Kiwi Autohomes only required credit card imprint for the security, not like some companies who at the commencement of hire, debit credit cards up to $5000.
Looking forward to another trip soon, will be in touch.
