Leave space in your schedule for just wandering - many cities have lovely parks, domain lands and botanic gardens. Albert Park in central Auckland is awesome.

Awasome day out!!! Totally recommend it!! Exciting helicopter ride to river, great fun with the amazing crew and unbelievable paddling down the Whataroa! I've gone rafting in many places around the world but this is by far the best place you could do it! The scenery was stunning, our guide was super experienced and onto it at all times! Had lunch at the best swimming spot ever, jumped off some high cliffs and my fried even got to guide the raft for a while! Thanks guys for a great experience!! Hoping to paddle some other rivers with you soon!!

This was without a doubt the best thing I did in New Zealand!! I was a bit nervous beforehand but once we were on our way I was just amazed that I could have easily missed out on seeing the 'real West Coast'... the river is stunning and the rafting was really exciting..almost too exciting when I nearly fell out!. The guides were very professional in their own 'Kiwi' way! When they told me we were eating lunch from a bucket I thought they were joking but stick with it..its yum!! Thanks so much to the crew for a 'sweet as' Day!!

Kia Ora!
1st time in New Zealand totally blast of mind off! It was totally amazing and awesome!!! Ecorafting trip with Johnny, Josh, Rich and Bonny was FANTASTICO! Hiking; camping on mountain, beside the river; cooking meals with paddles, deer hunting; eating venison; relaxing in natural hot pool and rafting down the river, what more can one ask for?! This is life!! I'll definitely be back again! G'bye until then!

Had a most wonderful experience with the Eco Rafting team; Josh, Rich and Johnny! The 'bootcamp' was an awesome time for an urban kid like me. Hike up to hot springs, deer hunting, camping out in the wilderness and a delicious camp cooked food. Rafting down the river the next morning was simply exhilarating. They make me feel safe yet adrenaline pumping the whole journey down.Bonnie the newbie of their team was also quite fun as he really got us doing lots of fun activities in the raft. Running around the raft while navigating past the rapids. Not forgetting Rich my hero, who rescued me immediately when I fell out of the raft! Thanks to Eco rafting for this great experience! I will definitely be back again!

First rafting experience in NZ, with the aim to do 2 day Landsborough, 2 day Mokinui and 3 day Karamea. Had inclement weather for most of the trip but ecorafting did their best to stick to the original plan and we only missed out on rafting the top section of the Mok. The upper section of the Mok was replaced with a trip on the Buller which was good too. A few organisational issues in sections due to weather and lack of communication but we had a great time. Hats off to the United Nations of ecorafting including Josh, Rich 'its a bit slippy' Cuddles, Mule, Bonnie, Justin and Darren they were all very friendly and competent guides who did their best to make sure the trip was a great experience for all. Their bucket lunch was an experience in itself. Karamea and Mokinui were awesome rivers, some great rapids and the portage on the Karamea was epic but overall good fun. We were also lucky enough to experience ecorafting's emotional underside in rescuing a poor duckling and then following its unfortunate demise two days organise a funeral (and floating pyre) on the Karamea. I'll be back to do Perth, Whataroa and Waitoto soon guys.

Thanks again

Where do I start? First visit to NZ and I had 5 very full weeks but nothing compares to the day spent on the Whataroa with Weke and Josh leading the experience. As a novice rafter (!) I felt 100% confident in their ability and was on an adrenalin rush for the whole 5 hours. AWESOME!!! Any time I need a pick me up I just have a look at the amazing photos taken courtesy of Josh. And thanks Josh for not being like so many other experience groups who charged for every little thing. That perhaps enhanced it all the more - you all seem to do this because you love it and we're lucky enough to share the river with you.

I'm sitting in Seoul airport, half way home and without doubt your rafting ranks up there. For interested travelers you can only get a taste of what it's like by reading the reviews, go get it for yourself!

Thank you

I rafted with Eco-Rafting back in March on the Whataroa. All I can say is, wow! I’ve rafted all over the United States, and I chose Eco-Rafting simply based on the amazing photos posted on the web-site. I must say, my expectations were high and they were not just met, but exceeded!

The day started with a scenic helicopter ride following the Whataroa up to our drop-off point. The scenic ride alone was amazing. Then after a safety briefing on land and on the water, we were off. The rapids were exhilarating and the river gorges were absolutely stunning. When we stopped for lunch, Josh led us back to waterfall and crystal clear stream flowing into the blue waters of the Whataroa. If you were inclined, you could jump off the ledge for a swim. The scenery was absolutely beautiful. Lunch was delicious and fun (served out of a bucket with a paddle). After lunch, it was back on the river for more rapids, until we arrived at where we started our day. Wicker and Josh were fantastic guides. You could tell safety was a priority, but so was the fun and enjoyment of the day.

In summary, this was an amazing one-day excursion. I highly recommend Eco-Rafting. This trip on the Whataroa was top-notch and I’m sure it will be on any river with Josh and Eco-Rafting.

I rafted the Whataroa with EcoRafting last month. It was my first ever raft trip but most definately wont be my last! What an amazing trip! I don't think Ive ever laughted so much in one day!
The adventure started with a spectacular helicopter ride into the mountains, then some unbelievable whitewater, beautiful scenery and to top it of with a slap-up lunch in front of a giant waterfall.

I was impressed with the professionalism of the guides. I felt completely safe despite being in such a remote and extreme environment.

Thanks a lot to Josh and his team, I will be back next year to try the other rivers you have on offer!

We have done at least 10 rafting trips in the States including multi-day trips and one day trips. Our one day heli-rafting trip on the Karamea was our best experience yet.

Josh and Pat as guides made us feel extremely safe. We were the only raft on the river, and felt as if we were early explorers. The valley was beautiful, with waterfalls and crystal clear water, clean enough to drink from.

The bucket lunch was a treat, mixed and served with a paddle!

The helicopter gets you to places that would take days to reach, and very remote regions.

We highly recommend this experience!

A top experience in an amazing corner of the globe. From start to finish the team made me feel safe and happy. Thanks especially to Josh (the big man in charge), who is extremely knowledgeable, comical and looks like sideshow Bob off the Simpsons. Top marks, I thoroughly recommended it and will be going on another trip before I leave NZ.

I normally don't bother commenting on these websites. Eco Rafting is now the exception. The day trip up the Whataroa is the best white water rafting day trip in NZ. Josh’s safety briefing and general instruction at the start of the trip was comprehensive, informative and surprisingly entertaining. The management of guests (some with no experience) was impressive to say the least, and it was obvious that the guides loved their jobs. The bucket food (tasting is believing....trust me) and waterfall jump at lunchtime was awesome. I'd go again in a heartbeat. The flight in with Heliservices and Puna the Pilot was the icing on the big phat cake of happiness.
