After surfing the net for months to find a holiday tour operator for New Zealand, one that would suit both my friend and me (we're both in our 60s and fairly adventurous), I came across the driftwood dreamers. Never in my wildest dreams did I think, it would be such a successful 'tailor made' holiday. Lyn was an excellent tour guide, or should I say, 'the perfect hostess for New Zealand'. In the short eighteen days, we covered some of the most beautiful and interesting places, both in the North & South Island, often away from the usual tourist trails. Our accommodation was always comfortable and far surpassed my expectation. For a more detailed description of all the wonderful places we visited read my friend Lilly McAllister’s review.

I have just returned from 18 magnificent days in New Zealand having Lyn of Driftwood Dreamers as our enthusiastic organiser and tour guide.
These are some of the highlights of the trip:
** A guided tour of White Island marine volcano
** A day hike on Mount Cook/Aoraki National Park where Edmund Hillary had his ‘practice runs’ before scaling Everest.
** An overnight cruise on the Doubtful Sound, playing with dolphins, fishing and feeding albatrosses – an unimaginable experience.
** Taking an air safari from Lake Tekapo over Fox Glacier and Mount Cook.
** An ecotour by jet boat down the Waitangi Taona River into the Waitangi Roto Nature Reserve to see nesting white herons.
** A night Kiwi watch on Stewart Island and a half day hike on Ulva Island to see the fascinating bell bird, tui, weka etc.
** The impressive Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki.
** A visit to the Whakarewarewa, the living thermal village, to explore the colourful steaming lakes, thermal pools, and taste a hangi meal after being treated to a Maori performance and seeing their unique cultural way of life.
And finally to crown it all,
** A half day hike on the Franz Josef Glacier complete with crampons. It was an exhilarating experience of a lifetime, stretching me physically, spiritually and mentally, all made possible by the excellent organisation, passion and humour of our guide. She provided immense insight into the Maori culture, drove the vehicle on both the islands, booked excellent accommodation and made sure we were not wanting in any way.
I came away with many lasting and happy memories.

OK so I figured I needed to help mend my broken heart and go on an adventure. At first India - to contemplate my navel - seemed an option, but then... well I stumbled on Driftwood Dreamers. Thank goodness. Nothing like being extremely busy with adventures both within and outside of your comfort zone to move forward in life.
Lyn is a generous hearted, happy and gentle woman who offers the traveller a perfectly organised agenda, tailored to your desires. She keeps you organised, safe and stimulated by her knowledge of New Zealand. Much of my adventure was soley with Lynn and we kept one another amused on a great road trip around NZ. Thelma and Louise eat your heart out! The off the beaten track advenutres simply cannot be rivalled. What are you waiting for?

Simply an amazing experience! Lyn is the consummate host. I cannot imagine having a more exciting, wonderful adventure. We did the South Island in 15 days, and despite the fact that we were on the go constantly, there always seemed to be time to relax, enjoy, and "smell the roses". I would recommend Driftwood Dreamers to any woman or group of women interested in breathtaking scenery, kind and generous people, and a trip of a lifetime. New Zealand - an incredible country. Lyn - an incredible host!

I cannot say enough about this wonderful company! I was traveling to New Zealand by myself and wanted to go on a bit of an adventure tour that was active and exciting but not over the top. I found Driftwood Dreamers through the Internet and got in touch with Lyn and her partner Kate. I wanted to sign up for a hike around the Bay of Plenty but unfortunately because I was traveling to NZ in the fall, the hike did not "go". Lyn offered to make a personal itinerary that would suit my interests and activity level. Not having traveled by myself for a number of years, I was a bit nervous but this was a trip that exceeded all of my expectations. Lyn was a superb guide who could not have been more accommodating. As I was the only person on the tour, I was invited to stay at her home in Opotoki where within a very short time, I felt like an old family friend. The accommodation was delightful, the food was excellent on and off the hiking trail, and the company of both Lyn and Kate was lovely. I felt as if i had become reacquainted with a couple of old friends.
I learned so much about New Zealand, it's history and the Maori culture from Lyn. She is extremely knowledgeable about her country and culture and eager to please her clients. The weather was not totally agreeable while I was there however Lyn was flexible and rearranged our plans to suit the forecast.
This is a company well worth exploring. I would recommend it to anyone interested in an adventure with a personal touch!

This is an amazing company that has designed trips for active women! The activities and accomodations (hotels and B&B's)are excellent and the price is truly all-inclusive with no hidden costs. I went on a two week tour of the North Island in January 07 with Driftwood Dreamers and so much of the travel is off the beaten path. You will truly get a New Zealand experience with Lyn. Her knowledge of the country and the culture is so vast and I learned so much from her about New Zealand. I was extremely happy with the schedule that also allowed flexibility for different activities. The small group setting adds all of those personal touches you miss out on with a large group tour. If you like adventure while learning about a country and it's cultures...this trip is for you! --Vanessa Meade Iliamna, Alaska
