We were told about the little blue penguins that come ashore an hour after dusk, on the waterfront to the north of Te Papa. A treat for us staying overnight in our camper at the Wellington Wharf.

If you are going camping in a van consider visiting the two charity shops in Glen Innes (Suburb of Auckland). We came away with very good pots, pans, duvet, wineglasses, etc at very good prices. We also bought a used single burner stove, but all the campgrounds have kitchens and most have BBQ's, so we haven't used it once!

Well designed interior, complete, good driving. The bed is a bit too small for two people (width 1.04m).

we rented for 22 days and had a van from 1997 with more than 250 000 km. by the end of the third week we really did not feel save anymore - cracking and squeeking and bad brakes and b/c we were in Auckland we called up and asked if we could exchange the van for the last two days. the girl on the phone told us that she had no van for us to exchange and that it was our responsibility to find a mechanic that would check our car saturday morning (most were closed). so we spent time and money, found a mechanic to look at the van and when he talked to the rental people it was suddenly possible to get another van in exchange...

Just returned from a five week trip to New Zealand, north and south island, using the 4 berth camper. Although the vehicle was four year old we had no problems whatsoever. OK it was a little worn in places but we paid a lot less money than other camper companies quoted. From the initial booking, to return of the vehicle everything ran smoothly and as advertised. Definately use in the future and would recommend to others.

We were very pleased with our hiring of your Backpacker Sleepervan. The van was small, as we expected, but very well designed and very comfortable for driving, sitting and sleeping and well equipped compared to other vans on the road - food was kept cold by a small cooler box that plugs into the cigg lighter while driving, other vans we saw just had a bin and had they buy ice everyday. It was in good mechanical condition and went very well - we covered over 2,000km in our 16 days, and it started immedaitely every time, even after very cold, wet & windy nigts on the west coast! We were particularly pleased to be picked up from the airport and taken back at the end - we were suprised to be on our way only half an hour after arriving at Christchurch.

We travelled from Canada to camp in New Zealand for the first time in our life(for 16 days) We rented a small campervan from Backpacker Sleepervans with a little bit of concern having paid for it ahead of time and not knowing what to expect. It was great. The staff at Christchurch were we picked up the van and those at Auckland where we left it off were fantastic to deal with, very helpful in all ways and made our trip much less worrisome than we expected. The van worked excellent, gave great gas mileage and made us feel confident. It was a little small for us, climbing in and out for sleeping and next time we would rent a little larger one from them. For someone a bit younger than our 60 ish age it would be ideal. We did have a lot of laughs with the size of it and really enjoyed how we could get around city streets easily. We also found the rental agreement with this company was very fair and upfront. We took out the extra insurance as a precaution but had no use for it, thank goodness. We would thoroughly advise anyone looking for a rental camper unit while travelling N.Z. to contact this company. If we were ever to return to N.Z. and tour again we would definitely use their services. Thanks again to the staff for their honesty, efficiency and help in making our holiday enjoyable.
