Whole country is very informal; shorts, tees and sandals acceptable most everywhere except Wellington, where black corporate outfits are standard issue.

This is a great experience! You learn a great deal about farmlife and sheep and it's fun too. It's very personal and you hear a lot about the history of the settlers in this area in general and about the family of the farms owners in partcular. Sue and Murray are very inviting people and we had a lovely time. Tip: you can also stay in their nice room in the b&b (pauabay.com). Ask Murray to fill up the outside hot( bath)tub! Their special diners are also amazing. Highly recommended! Greetings Nicole & christoph.

We actually stayed at the B&B here (Paua Bay Farmstay) which was great. We also went on the Farm Tour (which is discounted if you stay at the house). After weeks of seeing all those sheep, we got to learn about what they really did with them. We got to see a sheep shorn, to actually try shearing it ourselves, to see sheep dogs controlled by the whistle in action (really cool!) to learn how they do work on the sheep, how they divide them up, and how & why they move them from section to section of land. The tour ends with tea or coffee in the house.

without a doubt one of the best things we've done in NZ. I've done this tour twice in the course of 5 years because I enjoyed it thoroughly the 1st time, and the second time was brilliant too. So much more than the classical sheep shearing experience - the lovely farmer couple take the time to talk in depth about their family's history and life on the farm. Yummie scones, too :) A 5 star activity.
