Sunsets, sunrise and the stars and milkyway - Lake Pukaki at night is unreal, Mt Cook in the distance. Haven't seen so many and so beautiful ever!

Paddling in Lake Mapourika was an amazing experience. Mirror clear water with the backdrop of the highest mountains in NZ was not only an unforgettable view, but a great day out in the sun in the middle of what NZ calls winter! I highly reccomend it for anyone that comes through the west coast. A hike on the glacier in the morning followed up with a lake trip is an unforgettable way to spend a day in franz.

Paddling around the lake and glades into pristine jurassic forest while staying dry is just about as good of a wild natural experience that ive had in NZ, so i will remember it as one of the highlights of my trip!

A really amazing experience, not to be missed.
Our guides were really friendly and good company, but knew exactly when to leave you on your own to experience the beauty of the lakes and glacier. It is really good how you are given a lot of independence to travel at your own pace, there is no rushing ahead if you don't want to it really is a chilled out kayak which enables you to take in the serenity of this area.
You also get to kayak up stream in and around the rainforest, which can prove some amusing kayak moments especially when it comes to navigating but again you get the chance to kayak down the stream completely on your own. An added bonus is the pictuers that are taken and put on a DVD for your own use, a nice personal touch. The only improvement I would suggest is maybe having a range of distances/times out on the water. Personally I found 3 hours a little bit long but others may want longer.
Definitely recommend this as an activity to fill a morning/afternoon with breath taking views and a real 'experience' of NZ at its most beautiful.

AMAZING!!! We heard from a friend that this was a "must do" and I couldn't agree more. The view was amazing. We went on a day where it was forcast to rain and it was still completely worth even dollar(it sprinkled a bit but we had rain jacket/splash covers and actually were never cold!!)! Even if the main lake is a little rough, the view and experience you get once inside this little hidden forest is absolutely amazing. The pictures are ridicious. We decided to go on the guided tour and loved all the information about the history/geology/random facts that Wayne (our guide) through in. And we got a little work out in as an added bonus!! After the trip Wayne even jumped into the (FREEZING) lake with us. We just picked up a CD with all our pictures on it. This experience is worthwhile and I would recommend it if your are in Franz Josef!!!

I woke up this morning worried about the visibility, convinced it would rain. We decided to go check out the kayaking anyway because we'd heard great things about it... it was certainly the best decision we could have made. Wayne immediately and enthusiastically took us under his wing, even though he wasn't planning on kayaking at all that day. As soon as we put on our water-guards and boarded our kayaks, i knew I was in for a good time. It rained a little, but that only made me feel more hardcore. It didn't matter though, because Wayne knew the rainforest would be sheltered and beautiful. We got to see the lake's perfectly reflective surface in the protected rainforest area, which was incredible. We ended the day by jumping into the lake--and even the instructor got in with us! I highly recommend this for anyone coming to Franz Josef... Best money we've spent yet... it's not a maybe, it's a must.

The tour is reasonably priced compared to everything else, and it was completely worth it. The guide, Wayne, was very helpful, enthusiastic, and friendly. I would definitely recommend using the guide service, especially because he knows a lot of geological and historical information about the area and fun trails to kayak down. We had a great time, got an amazing CD of free pictures afterwards, and even got Wayne to jump in the freezing cold water with us when we were done kayaking. It was an overall great experience!!

This was an absolutely fantastic experience. Wayne took my group out on the lake on a cold, cloudy day, and made it into one of the most fun activities I've had in New Zealand! The views were amazing, the kayak gear provided was in great condition and very comfortable, and he even towed me for a bit when I got tired. Everyone should experience the lake, and I 100% recommend doing it with Wayne! SO FUN!
